Ashien Story There was a world like Earth where land was a majority. This world was thriving with ever expanding population, industrial productions that could supply the masses and nonexistent political conflict. It was a paradise! Until a fateful morning, threats for war were heard. For what reason or why, no one knew. Panic was in the street. Cities began to collapse before the war even broke out. Greed began to take over leaders' heart as their sovereign neighbors' became weak. Finally, the war broke out as leaders invaded their neighbors and claimed their lands and resources as their own. The war continued for a decade before it came to an armistice. An armistice signed by two great powers that rose from the ground during the war. These two super powers were the Imperial of Man and the Holy Kingdoms. The Imperials industrialized the southern hemisphere while the Holy Kingdoms consecrated the north. Not everyone agreed to the ways of the Imperials or the Kingdoms. For those who did not pick sides, they created towns of their own. To separate from either great power also means doom. Resources will be difficult to obtain in this war ridden world. Only the Imperial's technology and the Kingdom's blessing could provide for the people. Except for a town named Ashien. Ashien is a medium sized town that sits on a rich soil between the two super powers. Towns that failed to survive on their own either pledged their loyalty to a nation or moved on searching of another separation town. Many will arrive at Ashien but nearly all of them are rejected. Ashien may be surviving but was a very strict and secluded town. It will not allow just anyone to walk into its soil. Visitors will be scrutinized and those that wanted to reside in Ashien will be scrutinized even more. It is in this town where our story takes place. Fellow Ashienians will be fighting mentally and physically to protect this town of ours. For south of us is the Imperial of Man that wants to industrialize us and use our soil for their productions. To the north of us is the Holy Kingdoms that sees us as infidels that must be converted. There were also dangerous raiders, pirates and privateers that were taking advantage of broken up towns and travelers. RP Type: Alternate world, future, fantasy, sci-fi

Resources (updated 2-27) Race selections are open. Please do not over do it. Already accepted race are Human, Elf and Feline people. I'll allow other creative race as long as it's not demons, vampires, and werewolves deal that's seen too often in public RPs. I support Team Edward... Elric. Technology tree goes as high as nuclear power energy. Computers. Projectile weapons only. Bio engineering. Cybernetic and augmented body parts. Magic classed by elements being Fire, Earth, Wind, Water, Air, Holy and Shadow. Ashien Ashien is lucky to be in between the two great powers. Frequent tradesmen in large transports required a resting area for the night. Ashien's resources are only enough to provide for the town population. It is difficult to spare materials to trade with traders but town artisans can make replicas of both Imperial and Kingdom items in exchange for fuel and other supplies. Majority of the fuel are used for energy generators to provide power for the town. Other supplies can vary depending on the demands of the town population. Ashien includes the following buildings. The City Hall: Where the Mayor resides and rule over the town. The Port: By far the most important building and largest building in town. It is built next to the road and river. It acts as a resting are and a hub for traders. The Barrack: Recruits and trains people to become Guardsman that will protect the town. Locked away inside the Barrack were weapons from the war used by both sides. The Market: Designated store that sells food items and other kitchen materials for the population. Hunters and farmers are seen here frequently. The Smith House: Contains equipments that allow artisans to design, create and/or repair items. As long as the material is available, nearly anything can be made. The Power House: It contains equipments that process fossil fuel or nuclear fuel into energy. Only authorized personnel are allowed in this building. The Library: Many old texts that were saved from the destruction of the war are kept here. Pre-war books are valuable relics that hold important information. The Shops: A street full of rented shops that sells assorted items ranging from toys to pillows and bathing towels. The Inn: A tavern and a resting place for travelers or new residence waiting for an apartment space or house to be built. Apartments: Living environment are only basic. They range from small to medium size rooms. These buildings are built closer to the town center. Houses: Much larger living environment that meet the demands of the buyer. These are more luxurious but takes much more time to build, thus they are limited to certain status of the town population. Houses are built farther away from town center. Imperial of Man The first superpower were the Imperial of Man. Before the war, they were marketers and business men. When war broke out, everything they owned became useless. During the war, they banded together and named themselves the Corps. They held onto everything they could reach, and they could reach pretty far. By the end of the war, the Corps had convinced the entire southern hemisphere to be their citizens. Thus, the Imperial of Man emerges. Because of this, the Imperial are technological superior. They continue the use of automatic projectile weapons. They continued to power their cities with nuclear technologies. Because of the overwhelmingly large number of people, it is ruled by a republic government that controls its citizens. They look down upon the use of magic. There are a few government members who adopted the use of magic and are pardoned criminal charges. The Imperial dominates through overwhelming numbers. Holy Kingdoms The second superpower was the Holy Kingdoms. These people were once revered church members such as pastors, priests and nuns. When the war broke out, they believed Armageddon has arrived. That was far from the case. As the war wages on, they then concluded that this was a test. They gathered the strong and faithful believers and called themselves the Holy Knights. Strong faith and the discovery of magic stones allowed the faithful to adopt magical powers into their society. Over the years, offspring inherited these magical powers from their parents and does not require them to fuse with magic stone to gain magical power. It is still unsure how these magic stone works. One thing for sure is that people have obtained different powers even though they used the same stone as their fusion. Or children performing a completely different magic that in no way related to their parents. They dislike the use of highly superior technology. They believed it was technology that lead to the great war. The Holy promotes the use of melee weapon. Combined with defensive magic, a Holy warrior could reach an Imperial soldier while under gun fire. Raiders, Pirates and Privateers These are bands of people who have no allegiance to anyone. They form groups that take advantage of the turmoil between the two great powers. They care not for human lives. Many towns and villages belonging to the two great powers had been pillaged and cruel thing had been done to the civilians. Separation towns and villages were even less lucky because once they are attacked, no military or police force will come to aid them. Luckily, Raiders and Pirates only use old, crude and unreliable weapons and vehicles. They are still people to be feared because they are the outlaw. But privateers are people to be reckon with. They are mercenaries hired by the great powers to ruin the other and in hopes to disrupt the balance of power. They are slightly more dangerous but are less likely to raid. Things have had happened to unlucky towns. Edit: 2-27 - Added the Market and Inn.

Thrie arrived at the town gate with a group of hunters returning from the daily hunting. The Market is the town's main food source provider. It is the place that keeps a record of their farmers and hunters. They send out different hunting parties each morning to hunt for meat. Farmers are regulated to bring in different crops. The reason for Thrie being with the hunting party is because there are still plenty of dangers outside of Ashien's boundary. Guardsmen are randomly assigned to hunting parties and ensure the protection of the hunters. Dinosaur-like creatures are a real threat in the hunting competition. Let alone the raiders and pirates that dare not attack the town but till harass anyone that wonders far enough away from the town.
The town gate promptly opens after Thrie waved at the gate's Guardsman. Strung up by the limb on a pole, the hunters carried their catch of the day through the town's gate. This morning had been lucky. Herds of beasts were just passing by the area. The hunters took the chance and bagged some prized kills. The town will get a larger share of food tonight. Thrie kept watch of the surroundings until all the hunters were inside the town. He gave a final look at the scenery before he turned around and walked pass the gate which closed behind him shortly.
Thrie approached the gate's guard house and handed over his rifle to the guard stationed there. He won't need it inside the town. He was about to head back to the Barrack when his stomach grumbled. That's right, I haven't had enough since this morning. Looks like noon now. Thrie thought to himself.
He changed direction and headed for the Market. A bite of eat would be nice. He was about to be on his way when he noticed Lauren outside of the Port. Lauren was one of the cat people he had help escape from the Imperial years ago. He was about to go greet her when a middle aged man stepped out of the port and began asking her to buy his merchandise. Of course, Lauren would refuse. She's not very good with people that are not from this town. The trader became persistent and chased after her. Lauren faced the man once more and told him that she was not interested. When she began to leave once more, the trader cut her off and grabs her by the wrist. The sight of Lauren roughly handled by the trader stirred a fury in Thrie's heart. He quickly approached them ready to intervene.
With an authoritative tone, Thrie asked "Is there any problem here?"
The trader startled by Thrie's voice, turned around and said with a smile "Why no sir! I am just simply showing certain special goods for this young lady here. Things I don't normally show."
Lauren began to protest but the trader shifted slightly putting himself between Lauren and Thrie.
"I'm sorry but you will have to stop. It is against regulation to sell anything outside of the Port. If you have goods, please return to your designated table inside the Port building. Otherwise you and your cargo will be scheduled for re-inspection and/or scheduled to depart much sooner." Thrie said in a voice of a Guardsman who is trained to uphold the rules.
Beginning to be annoyed by Thrie's presence, the trade replied angrily "Look son, I'm an Imperial citizen trader. My trading rights had been granted to me by the Imperium. I will not have my time wasted by your unorthodox declaration of inspection. You can't talk to me like this and I demand an apology or I will bring your head to the Imperial Trading Officials!"
Thrie had waited for this. He could act on the full law of the Guardsmen once the confronted suspect becomes belligerent. He grabbed a device off his utility belt with his left hand and thumbed the activation switch. As the yellow energy filled the space around the device, the air is instantly forced aside creating a crackling sound like a thunder clap. Now the device in his left hand had created a round shield in front of his forearm. His right hand retrieved the energy hilt from his belt and thumbed the baton mode. The same yellow energy filled the space near the hilt and in an instant thunder clap noise, it formed a solid baton.
Thrie asked the trader one more time "Is there a problem or shall I arrest you on the spot and repeat the violations you have committed? Our trade treaty with the Imperial allows us to enforce all trading regulation written by this town's Port. Failure to comply will result in an immediate notification to your cartel forfeiting parking space and restricting future trades."
The trader finally took the hint and released his hand from Lauren. He started for the Port before he turned around and said angrily "I'll listen to a brat like you for now just because I'm such a gentleman. See if I'll sell my world class valuables here again."
Thrie let out a sigh as the trader returned to the port. He deactivated his weapons and attached them back to his utility belt. He turns to greet Lauren and smile. "I'm sorry about that. You should head back home quickly. I heard that your mother's health has gotten worst since last night."
Lauren replied with a relieved look "Thank you, and don't apologize. Yes, she's becoming more ill by the day. I don't want to lose her like I did with my father. That's why I was out here, I had to get some medicine for mom. Then I ran into that man. I hate the Imperial so much!"
Thrie sighed and gave her a pat on the head and said "I wish we had more connection with the Imperial pharmaceutical market. But last I heard, they scrapped the project and no further drugs were developed. I'm not sure if we'll be able to find the proper treatments for your family. It just irritates me so much... oh, I shouldn't keep you here then. Hurry home. I'll stop by later tonight."
Lauren nodded and gave Thrie a quick hug. She headed quickly toward the apartment district with a small bag of medicine in her arms. Thrie watched her disappear around a corner and turned to look around the semi-busy town. What should I do?...

The jangle of heavy metal bracelets signaled Ai's presence before she spoke.
"Heh, another Imperium trader forget he's not in Imperium territory?" The blonde artisan asked as she approached Thrie. She was wearing another of her designs, an aqua-colored shirt with silk-screened palm trees matched with a pair of calf-high form-fitting pants, topped with her favorite beret, tilted at an appropriately jaunty angle.
She had one of her arms akimbo, while the other held a bag containing bread and fruit, and what looked like possibly a jar of honey. The bag wasn't full, so it was clear that she hadn't finished her shopping yet.

Kiriiae was laying out some sheet metal in the back of the shop as she heard another customer enter the smithery. It was going to be another busy day of laboring over hot metal, steaming water, and the ever-present smell of coal and smoke. She didn't mind it, but she preferred it when she could step outside into the cool early-morning air and take in a deep fresh breath.
The man at the counter was discussing something with the shop-keeper about having his family's crest worked into the metal in such and such a size, in the left corner of a breastplate. Kiriiae made her way toward the front of the shop to collect some more orders and place them in the proper bins for when time called upon her to work on them. She was surprised to find out how many people in this town hadn't even been born there. People from all over had moved away from lesser living conditions and believed they could start over fresh in this place. The idea was a pleasing thought, but Kiriiae wondered just how true it would turn out to be.
"You see, sir, if the piece is to fit into this type of metal, I'm afraid it will shatter in the process. This is a very thin plate of armor to begin with, and--"
"Are you telling me that my own grandfather's armor is not strong enough to withstand a little smith job?! How dare you? This is a fine piece of armor!"
"But sir-"
"No, you listen here, boy! I come from-"
Kiriiae decided to step in and stop the argument before the breastplate melted in the old man's hands. She stepped forward with a calm, authoritative presence and looked into the old customer's eyes.
"Sir, if I may take a look?" She began.
"And just who are you?" the old fella grumbled, still steaming.
"I'm the one who ultimately gets to decide if a piece can or cannot withstand additional work... may I?" She looked at her boss as he handed her the breastplate and a stern glare. The old man narrowed his eyes as he watched this young woman examine his family crest from a necklace and felt around the metal of the breastplate, harrumphing to himself.
"So... can you do it?" said the old man, clearly at a lost grip for any more patience after his previous eruption with the shop-keeper.
"I wouldn't recommend having such a delicate piece put under the fire after all these years, but considering your family crest has such a lovely design, how about we center it rather than put it to the side? The center is much thicker and will not go brittle under fire as would this side, considering the leather-work underneath it." Kiriiae explained in a simple tone. "If you're that adamant about having it crested to the side, your armor WILL break. That is not an insult, it is a fact."
The old man observed her with keen amber eyes before turning back to the shop-keeper and resuming the conversation about how long it would take to finish and how much the cost would be. Kiriiae saw this as an opportune moment just to slide away as she so smoothly slid in. She went to the back of the shop and resumed working on a pair of gauntlets that had worn down at the grip due to frequent weapon-wielding.
Kiriiae hear footsteps approach her and an angry tone take on the shape of her boss. "You've got quite the work-load on your hands already, why the hell would you--" she tuned him out as he began rambling on about how much time she'd have to do this and that while using the old man's breastplate to dramatize his tone and pose. It was a good thing the old geezer left, he'd probably blow a gasket knowing how his piece was being treated at the moment. "And to top it all off!--"he continued... Kiriiae decided to interrupt the on-going rant.
"With magic." She assured him.
"Magic? What sort of magic--" he began.
"Don't worry about it. I've got a few tricks up my sleeves. Besides, I've been working here for 3 months now. You tell me if my work is worthy of sale. Most of it is crafted with the aid and/or intricacy of magic. You know it as well as I do. Why are you so uppity about it all of a sudden?" She stated clearly, getting annoyed with this on-going senseless discussion.
"You work too hard, my dear..." he responded, the heat gone from his eyes and his tone. "That old goat could have left to nag at some other smith to work his craft."
"And your point, Mr. Hakens?" Kiriiae shifted her weight and set the gauntlet down.
"The point is, you shouldn't keep yourself cooped up in here all day. It's a beautiful morning, and you're in here wallowing in the shadows. Go out and make some friends, do what young women your age ought to..."
Kiriiae knew where this discussion was headed. She had arrived 3 months ago and proved her craft worthy of kings to this man, this Mr. Hakens. He had taken her in not knowing she didn't even sleep with a roof over her head at the time. It didn't bother her to sleep under the stars. When he found out that each night she slept near the outskirts of town near the forests, he exploded into what to Kiriiae looked to be a worrisome father's parade of concerned words, thoughts, and gestures. Kiriiae missed her father... And after that moment, kind but stern Mr. Hakens had let Kiriiae sleep in the cellar above the shop. It hadn't been used frequently, due to the ins and outs of daily business, and it led out to a small balcony. She became quite content with her quaint living space, and promised to work hard to earn her living there. The man looked at her with the sorrowful eyes one would give an orphaned kitten.
"Well, when I finish this piece, I'll take a little break... if it'll get you off my back." She smirked up at the aging man. He looked to be in his late 40s. His neatly trimmed black hair sat well with the mix of silverish-grey falling into it.
"Alright then." He settled and smiled, walking away while dry-washing his hands of some unseen dirt.
Kiriiae leaned back in her chair and shook her head in quiet contemplation. She wasn't used to being treated so... normal.

Thrie turned his head toward Ai when she spoke to him.
"Yeah... that's the jest of it. It's like they were born with that Imperial attitude. It's disgusting." Thrie said with a sigh.
As he talked, he tried to remember her name. He wasn't there when she arrived at the town gate. He only heard the story from the other guards. "Ah, you are...? Oh, I'm sorry. I should first introduce myself before asking for your name. I'm Thrie Barton, you can call me Thrie."
After the last sentence, the energy hilt crackled as the battery cooked off in a malfunction. Damn Imperial technology... they mass produce everything with the least care for it's quality. Thrie cursed to himself.

"Some of them are." She said with an exasperated sigh. Her vivid green eyes glanced downward for a moment, before she added, "But they're not all bad." She continued on, prompted by his question and introduction, the exasperation quickly flowing into a bit of a grin as she jerked her free thumb towards her chest. "I'm Ai Shiteru. Good to meet ya, Thrie."
She blinked once, looking over to his hilt as it hissed and popped. "That didn't sound good," she helpfully observed. "You know, I hear there's a good weaponsmith in town. Might be a bit more reliable than that thing was."

As he picked up his energy hilt in between his thumb and index finger and gave it a quick look. While pretending to be inspecting his weapon, mumbled something under his breath "Aye... some of them are. Unlike my parents."
Then he looked back up at Ai and smiled quickly. "You're right! It's unfair to categorize the entire population. I should have known better. Nice too meet you too, Ai Shiteru!"
Thrie chuckled when he was commented about his weapon. "Yes, yes. We have talented weapon smiths in town. It's just the sentimental value I have with this weapon that I kept it for so long. These things helped me fend off the Imperial and raiders before I made it to this town. I was lucky to have found them." He said with a half smile, knowing he had to lie about the part where he found the weapons. This energy hilt and shield was issued to him by the Imperial.

Sitting at a table in the middle of the Inn's tavern was a swordsman and his companion. Legs spread under the table and one arm resting over the backrest of the chair, he had his head hanging back and staring up at the ceiling, letting out heavy sighs from time to time which made some of the waitresses uneasy. His companion wasn't any different, covered in a brown cloak and staring at the glass of water they had been given since arriving at the Inn.
In fact, that's all they had asked for which was making the Inn keeper annoyed. It was one thing to have a customer order one thing and stay for a long period of time, it was another to just order a glass of water and mope in their chair. Finally the Inn keeper could take no more and approached the pair.
"Sir...if you are not going to or-", "J" slowly turned to the Inn keeper with a rather strange look that frightened the middle aged man, "A-Ah...I was just making sure if you wanted to order something. Please let us know when you are ready." The keeper quickly turned around and hurriedly walked back behind the desk. The swordsman didn't mean to give him that look, he was broke and could not afford anything and was very hungry, the same could go for his companion but she was too busy plotting his demise...or at least he thought she was with how sternly she was looking at the glass of water.

Kiriiae sighed to herself as she walked her way to the market square, her sapphire eyes shifting as if on enemy territory, as was habit. Kiriiae knew how hard it was to simmer her old habits, lest she get discovered. She shifted the weight of the bag carrying the supplies she'd bought from one shoulder to the other. It sure was a busy day.
The sun streamed its way in from behind the clouds warming her face, the gentle breeze lifting her cascading crimson hair off of her face and cooling her ears. She thought about what Mr. Hakens was talking about. What was it girls her age were supposedly doing? She wasn't exactly brought up in a bubble, so she concluded that the idea of ever becoming such was completely hopeless.
Kiriiae was wearing her casual smith's clothes. A white shirt sleeved down to the elbows and buttoned in place formed a v-cut at her chest, revealing her mother's pendant. The only item she had kept from home. Her waist was cinched with a brown leather corset with 3 buckles and a strap holding her dagger to her left hip with an open buckle for a possible sword on the right. A pair of black linen trousers were tucked into knee-length leather boots partly covered in soot and ash. It was an exceptionally warm day today, so she need not have brought her cloak.
A man approached her offering his wares and sales like some midnight summer mosquito begging to be squashed under her hand. She wasn't interested in anything, much less had the money to afford to do so.
"How about this lovely bracelet? It's been proven to prevent ailments such as-" he rambled on like some puppet begging the strings released with a purchase. "That's a lovely necklace you've got there, my dear-" he antagonized, continuing on about how his pieces would match her only piece of jewelry.
They let anyone into this town these days... she thought to herself. She knew what kind of man this person was. He was an Imperial pig. It wasn't so much that he wanted to do business as he wanted to gyp people out of their earned wage.
"My, my that IS quite the lovely piece, the symbols and craftsmanship are practically identical to that of-" he reached for her necklace.
Almost in slow-motion as his filthy Imperial hand reached for her seemingly delicate form, she grabbed him by the wrist and twisted it behind his back.
"I said... I'm not interested." Kiriiae responded coldly. "Or are you deaf?"

A pair of Ashien Guardsmen walked into the Inn's tavern for a drink. They had just finished their shift. The lack of headpiece and side arms of any sort hinted that. They sat down at the bar to order an alcoholic drink. Not too long later, "J" attracted their attention. The town's Guardsmen were known to be very strict. It was if they tolerated nothing. Since they were off duty, they weren't really supposed to get involved in any dispute unless they were called upon. However, this was a special case, the female Guardsmen recognized "J" from a poster she had seen at town square. She quickly whispered to her male Guardsmen and they discussed what they should do. After the came to a discussion, the female Guardsmen stood up and left the building. The male stayed and sipped his drink and occasionally glanced at "J" and his female companion.
On her way to City Hall's town square, she had to pass by the market place and the port. In doing so, she came upon Kiriiae and the Imperial tradesman. She sighed heavily. She hated traders who left the Port and tried to sell stuff inside the town, especially Imperial traders. Even though she was off-duty, this is one thing she had to get involved. The female Guardsman veered off from her original destination and approached Kiriiae and the trader. She gave a subtle nod to Kiriiae before she used the favored phrase all Guardsmen used. "Is there a problem here?"
