__________ITEM HISTORY______________________________It all started with Lady Eugene Hughbert's misfortune of contracting the Death, confining her to the tiny guest room of her son's otherwise magnificent household. Despite her advanced age, she was not the type to be content with such confinement. In the interest of keeping her from wandering about and unwittingly contaminating other members of the household, the Hughberts consulted their family doctor about this habit, wondering if there was any way they could visit/distract her without putting themselves in danger. The physician known for his ties to the Council of Science, suggested that the airborne spread of the Plague could be temporarily hindered by pressing a cloth to one's mouth and nose while in her presence. A personal favorite item of Alexandra Hughbert's (one of the Lady's grandchildren) for the task was her imported silk handkerchief, as it was something she often carried around anyway. It was after the first of these visits that the handkerchief had, ironically enough, become tainted itself. By the time the sickly woman's illness finally claimed her, Alexandra had made enough visits that the lightly-perfumed cloth grew putrid with the sickly sweet smell of decay. Strangely enough, she didn't seem to notice this change at all.Such fetidness did not waste any time luring an Obscuvos scout and his seeker Plague shortly after Lady Eustace's funeral. Alexandra, who had a habit of taking relaxing strolls as the last lights of the afternoon were fading, was followed, cornered, and eventually confronted about her curiously pungent kerchief and how much she wanted to part with the object. Suspicious of their motives and unwilling to part with this keepsake (it reminded her of her deceased grandmother), she politely refused, instigating a slightly more aggressive exchange. Langston Beufort, a foot patrolman who often went out of his way to "run into" Alexandra during her strolls, chanced upon this ordeal and interjected. The resulting fight attracted the attention of some other guards and the situation was soon under control. Just before being escorted home by indignant family members, Alexandra had gathered up the gall to make a final request of Langston; that he hang onto her handkerchief until she asked for it back. The young man, though confused by this gesture (he was not informed about what she'd been harassed for in the first place), immediately accepted, smiling reassuringly at her retreating figure as he tried to contain a grimace at the object's odor.

__________STAGE ONE • PUTESCO______________________________________featured art © ZanarooAn expensive, lace ladies' handkerchief imported from the Western Continents. Once a favored personal belonging of a certain Miss Alexandra Hughbert, it appears to have been well taken care of in its period of use, excepting a noticeable black stain near one edge. Most remarkable is the object's scent, something between decay, fermentation, and illness (namely that of the elderly). Though faint, it is an odor that is hard to ignore when brought out to the open air.
Whether the handkerchief was given to Langston Beufort as sign of affection or a farewell gift is yet to be discovered.Future Custom Aspects: laci-/frilliness, should wear boots no shorter than knee-length, hair length should be to mid-lower back, pale/creamy color scheme. To Proceed... x3 solos (1)(2)(3) x2 roleplays (1)(2) x1 growth quest

__________LANGSTON BEUFORT______________________________Full Name: Langston Beufort Preferred Name: Langston, Mr. Beufort Age: Twenty-five Gender: Male Place of Origin: Mishkan, Panymium Current Residence: Helios
Appearance: pending
Personality: Langston is an extremely polite and accommodating young man, as a result of his being thrust into one subordinate position after another throughout his life. He much prefers being wholly ignored to receiving negative attention and in general, will try to avoid offending or pestering. One of Langston's strongest driving forces is his sense of justice, especially toward those he believes to be underprivileged in some way; this is especially apparent in his careful and usually chivalrous (but sometimes lightly admonishing) treatment of the "weaker sex." Aside from a few core philosophies that he was strictly raised to hold true to, the man usually prefers to respond to wrongdoing with an example of the "right way," instead of with verbal criticisms. Langston is strongest when backed up by a group and knowledge that some higher-up or other is dictating his actions.Nonplayer Relations:Anselm Beufort [father] • an assertive parent with high expectations. Langston flits between wanting to live up to the man's desires or shut himself away from them. Jacqueline Beufort [mother] • played a rather inactive role, especially in his later life. Catherine Beufort [older sister] • forced to take the role of "house mother" by necessity, due to Jacqueline's sudden and mysterious emotional imbalance. Sarah Beufort [older sister] • somewhat of an assistant to Catherine's mothering duties, but not nearly as committed or attentive about it. Not particularly close to Langston. Garret Beufort [younger brother] • familial mediator, due to his talent with words. A frequent playmate of Langston's in their youth, but with the coming of his adulthood, his "people person" attributes seem to be translating into womanizing ones.
Alexandra Hughbert [acquaintance] • a woman that Langston has taken a fancy to after meeting her several times while out on patrol. She is also the granter of his infected item.__________A BRIEF BIOGRAPHY______________________________Langston is the first of the Beufort line (which originally hails from the Northeastern continent) to have been born and raised on the Panymesian Continent, a privilege that Beufort Senior would not have squandered on weakness and humility. Having been forced into taking up active roles in the endless feudal battles that the governing forces of his homeland never seemed to tire of, Langston's father is a war-hardened military man, a manifestation of the bitter fury of generations of oppressed, impoverished, and otherwise humiliated ancestors. The long and arduous history of Beufort Senior will not be retold here, but know that his son was not as lucky. Since he was old enough to exhibit an attention span, the boy was made painfully aware of his father's biography in all of its morbidly drawn-out detail, the point of being to desensitize him to the trials and tribulations of military life. For the son of such a progressive warrior to do anything with his life but continue where his father left off was, of course, unthinkable. As it happened, this preparation yielded only very temporary results and eventually had quite the opposite effect. Langston was an impressionable lad to be sure, but not exclusively in one man's presence. His older sister (a maternal figure to him, as his mother always seemed forever out of sorts with some imbalance of the humours or other), his tutors, and his friends (typically females, as boys tended to be too competitive) were among some of these "bad influences." Langston began to realize that as much as he tried to find ways to genuinely change his mind, he felt very little personal benefit in his preparation for soldierhood. His early teenage years were spent in mindless routine of school and training with very occasional breaks for boyish shenanigans he would be coaxed into by neighbor children. A great fondness of idling soon followed and it was not uncommon to find him wandering, musing, reading and rereading his books, or carving notches into wooden surfaces with stolen cookware (a habit that irritated the rest of the household to no end). It was about his sixteenth year when the Plague took its first tolls and approximately five years later when the commotion regarding Doctor Diefendorf precipitated. By this time, Beufort Senior was often busy with the wave of crime that typically accompanied widespread panic. In the end, it was the rise of the Obscuvos that finally renewed Langston's curiosity of the terrible, yet exciting current events of his day. Pegged as universal villains and public enemies, the otherwise mild-mannered young man had at last found the faceless, impersonal enemies toward which he could direct unchecked animosity without guilt. Ever the hesitant one though, it was a few weeks before he'd gathered up enough nerve to reveal this scrap of self-discovery to his father, and longer still to undergo the proceeding preparation and intensive training for a military position. During this time, Langston, who was far too used to the sheltered lifestyle he had taken pains to maintain before, had trouble adapting to the tedium and ever-present sense of alertness that came with being a soldier-in-training. His comrades boorish and obnoxious unless being directly supervised and higher-ups seemed just a bit too willing to exert their merciless superiority at even the lightest offenses. Langston's passionate desire to protect the Panymesian population was promptly replaced by intimidation of his new associates and responsibilities, and eventually a deep sense of regret. He didn't exactly miss his old life so much as he felt even more confined and miserable in this new one.Langston is presently a foot patrolman of the Helios region, mainly responsible for making rounds, settling local disputes and petty crimes, and aiding in the disposal of corpses of those who had been afflicted with the Death. It is a vast improvement from his days at the training barracks; one might even say that his confidence in his choice of career has been renewed. Still marred, but renewed nonetheless. Above all, the man has returned to his relentless pursuit of his father's approval and is determined to, at the very least, keep from soiling the Beufort name. __________ROLEPLAY DETAILS______________________________Dialogue Style: #8B3E2F, bold Thought Style: #8B3E2F, italicized
