For Jahi life was good. As a member of Sahen's Ligi he was allowed to live in ways that the weaker lions of the pride were not permitted, and Jahi liked the way it felt when he got to exercise his power and authority. He was young, hadn't been an adult for very long, and inexperienced and by no means a particular favourite of Sahen's. That was an honour reserved for lions that had been in the service of the King since the beginning. They were his most bloodthirsty killers. His most ruthless fighters. While Jahi was a greedy and manipulating soul who radiated ego, he wasn't necessarily cruel and didn't really enjoy most of the duties he had to fulfill. What he did like about his role in the pride, however, was the perks. Since becoming a Ligi member, he could eat as much as he liked whenever he liked, without much fear of reprimand. Also, he found the other Ligi lions much more agreeable now that he was one of them. They no longer sent shivers of fear rocketing up his spine. They were his brothers and sisters, and he was glad to be one of them. Jahi, who had always been large and beefy for his age, was taking a break from border patrol. He strolled from the edge of the pride, his muscles rolling like silk under his skin, and into the jungle for a little drink from the stream that wove through the center of the canyon. His head was held high and there was a haughty smirk on his lips.

Time had been lost on him, it seemed as though it was forever since he left the pride that he loved dearly. And his parents...
Kafei's was his mother and fathers only offspring. They where more than capable to producing more cubs, however they opted to simply spoil their son and bring him up to be a respected member of their new pride. Needless to say, their plans where foiled when Kafei revealed his intentions to return to the lands of their ancestors.
At first, they wanted to hear nothing of this plan of his. After some coxing, they began to accept, but not support it one bit. They had talked to him about their old pride, the good and bad all throughout his childhood. They never would have thought such a crazy idea as to go back would have entered their sons thoughts.
"What do you expect to find there Kafei?" The sound of his mom's voice roaring out that question echoed in his head while he walked. He never gave her an answer, because he wasn't sure himself.
The lions thoughts where stirred as the ground in front of him ended. His red eyes quickly darted around, taking in the view of the vast valley infront of him. He had reached Abha’s Hiari, and it was exactly how his parent had always described it. It was so beautiful, full to the brink with lush vegetation, and so peaceful.. perhaps, he had come in a time of prosper? He could only hope.
The better question to ask at the moment was how to get down. Kafei leanred over to get a better look, and it seemed as though he had stumbled upon a pretty treacherous section of the canyon. For such a stubborn young male like Kafei, it would take more to stop him from trying.
Kafei's paws sunk into the loose dirt and rocks, his claws grasping for anything to produce some sort of traction. About halfway down, thirst and hunger was getting to him. He tried his best to keep his thoughts on safely getting down, as worrying about catching pray was of no use to a dead lion. Suddenly his front paw slipped, sending him quickly down the side of the mountain. Within a few seconds he had fallen all the way to the base of the valley, he laid still on his side, watching the dirt bellowing up into the sky from the small rock slide he triggered.

There was a low rumbling, followed promptly by the sound of falling rocks. Ears pressed back against his skull and eyes wide with alarm Jahi, who hadn't yet made it to the stream and been able to quench his thirst, barely had time to get out of the way of the landslide. He roared in fright, and used his powerful legs to propel himself out of the danger path as quickly as was possible.
He made it, fortunately, and stood outside of its range with his purple eyes narrowed until it was over and the dust had begun to settle. In retrospect, the rock slide had been rather small and insignificant. It had just seemed a lot more dangerous when it'd been barrelling straight for his head. Curious about what had caused it, Jahi dutifully put himself back to work, and searched the wreckage for any sign of a body. Somebody may have been hurt.
His eyes raked through the dust, the rocks, along the valley floor and there. A fully grown lion lay on his side, not twenty feet from where the Ligi stood. Jahi straightened his posture and, puffing out his chest, glowered menacingly at the other male, but didn't yet speak.

The purple male wasn't hurt, but for some reason his body froze; maybe from the shock of the sudden impact. He did his best to snap out of it though, he knew that there was a risk that the land wasn't stable and another, more dangerous rockside could come down on him any second.
As he was rolling into his stomach, Kafi's eyes grew wide. A large blue lion had managed to sneak up on him, only a few pawsteps away for that mater. Trying to keep his cool, he rationalized the situation to himself. If this lion had intentions of killing me he would have already done so, and more likely than not this was a member of the pride... hopefully his instincts hadn't lead him astray and he was in fact in the right place.
"Excuse me." It seemed rather strange talking so politely to a lion that had sneaked up on him, but Kafei really had no "but maybe you can tell me if this is Abha’s Hiari?"

Jahi wasn't sure that he approved of the way the other lion's eyes widened. He seemed surprised and maybe a little bit frightened, which were both probably very good things. As a Ligi, it was his a part of his job to be able to sneak up on other lions, and to instil fear into their hearts. Where Sahen could not command the respect of the Ashnai'le people with his silvery words, he used brute force.
But very rarely got his own paws dirty.
The Ligi may have been spoiled and privileged members of the pride, but the duties they had to fulfil were some of the worst.
"This is Abha's Hiari," Jahi nodded, nostrils flaring, and stood up a little straighter. He regarded Kafei through eyes that were more curious than they were hostile. "Are you from the Outside?"

Kafei hadn't really needed the assurance that he was in the right place. Looking behind the other male, through the breaks in the trees he could see the weeping lion; a landmark of the pride his parents had told him about many times throughout his childhood. How he had actually navigated through the rogue lands was another story entirely. Perhaps it was dumb luck the young adult had stumbled upon the valley, but Kafei preferred to believe that Tama himself helped guide him "home".
"That I am, from a land far away from here." The other males strong posture was slightly intimidating. Kafei pulled himself together and straightened up as well, and with a quick shake of the head, got his royal blue bangs out of his face.
"My name is Kafei. Both my parents were born and raised in this pride before leaving some time ago, Lord Ravi and Lady Nirmala are their names." His parents had asked him to honor only one request when he got into the pride lands, and that was to lie about his family lineage. They had supplied their son with two names to use instead of their own, supposedly old friends of theirs that had left the pride lands in good standings with the Shatkona. For his own protection Kafei had to pretend to be the son of two lions he had never met.

The son of a pair of hunters, Jahi had grown from humble, insignificant beginnings into one of the most powerful members of the Ashnai'le pride. He was very young, in comparison to the Shatkona and his most trusted bodyguards, but he had earned his place as Ligi, and did what he could to appease his King.
It was a part of his job to watch over the Lords and Ladies of the pride; to protect them from the desperate hunger of the hunters and the slaves, and to keep his eyes peeled for any especially… unfavourable behaviour. Sahen was a clever, suspicious creature.
Thanks to his Ligi, there wasn't much that he didn't know about his people.
"I do not know Lord Ravi or Lady Nirmala," he rumbled softly, regarding Kafei through narrowed eyes. The Ligi held this Outsider's gaze carefully for a long moment, considering the things that he had said, and then relented with an almost friendly nod of his great head;
"But I have heard of them. Good things. Welcome to Ashnai'le, Kafei. I am Jahi."
The blue lion relaxed visibly, any animosity all but dissolving from his face, and quirked an eyebrow.
"Why have you come here?"
Was it Kafei's imagination, or did Jahi sound a little… confused?

A sense of relief flooded over him when Jahi welcomed him into the Ashnai'le prides territory. Kafei had been holding his breath unintentionally as he was waiting for this pride members approval and was trying to shake off a little dizzy spell. He let out a deep sigh and steadied himself, trying to hold back a grin of satisfaction.
"Thank you Jahi." Kafei humbly bowed his head.
His parents had warned him about potential hostiles when entering the canyon, but it seemed like using the other names had worked in his favor after all. Even so, Kafei was hoping he could be proud of his family's linage, maybe even find distant relatives who still resided in the pride. Why had they been so adamant about their identity being kept secret?
Dar'tor and Aroma hadn't disclosed very much about the pride to their only son. Some things, like the prophecy about the chosen one, they knew he would find out about eventually from word of mouth. Other things, like the fact that he had no living blood relations in Ashnai'le anymore, were best not spoken about.
Kafei raised his head, his ears suddenly perked at Jahi's words. The question itself was innocent enough, but the tone in which he asked it in was unexpected.
"Well, I've come to join your pride." Kafei said it as confidently as he could, though Jahi's sudden change in demeanor seemed to blow the wind out his request.

"Join?"
There could be no denying the perplexed lilt to Jahi's question. He was genuinely surprised. It wasn't everyday somebody fell into the canyon of their own free will. Lions who wandered too close to the borders were sometimes captured and dragged inside, so that the bloodlines remained clean.
Kafei was rare.
It was a moment or two before the big Ligi remembered himself. Flushing a little, embarrassed by his fumble, Jahi cleared his throat and started acting as though becoming a part of Ashnai'le was the best thing that could ever happen to anyone.
This was how Sahen expected him to behave.
"I see," Jahi struggled to find the right words. He wasn't a very good actor. "Well, then. You must follow me. The Shatkoa would like to see you, I'm sure. He was fond of your mother, I am told."
Sahen was fond of too may lionesses.
Jahi spared Kafei an awkward smile that did not reach his eyes, turned at once towards the trees, and led the way into the darkness.

Kafei's ears fell at the reaction to joining. Any optimism about Ashnai'le being in peaceful times that the young lion, had just got thrown out the window. What had he gotten himself into? Kafei tried his best to keep up a look of enthusiasm as not to raise any suspicion, but he was throughly worried at this point.
"Oh? I wasn't aware they knew each other." Kafei responded, ignorant to the meaning behind his words.
He nodded in agreement to Jahi, though the moment the other male turned away from him Kafei's face was visibly full of dismay. He would be meeting the Shatkona already? Well, it made sense that the ruler of the pride would meet any new members. But still, maybe he should have hunted for more information from his parents and learned more about his "new" family before he left.
Kafei felt like he was being throw into the middle of a scene with no role to play. He walked silently behind the Tama who was escorting him, plotting an improvised performance for the Shatkona.
