Her mother had abandoned her long ago, her sister had run after her, and her father had run after them both. So, where did that leave Minuet exactly? Well, technically she was under Cuauhcoatl's care, but he was so busy with his tribe that he didn't have much time to spend with herself or her brother. So usually Ikinya watched after them, but today even she was busy, and Cabriole had wandered off to practice his dancing alone. He thought he was great, but even though he wasn't really, he practiced every day. All this meant that Minuet was alone, with absolutely nothing to do. Dancing was no fun without an audience or a partner, so, instead, she decided it was time she explore a bit. She didn't plan on going too far, she wanted to make sure she made it home before nightfall, so she wouldn't worry anyone.

So, with a little skip in her trot she headed off into the forest. She'd never really been alone to ponder about the word around her, but she was happy to know, that thanks to Cuauhcoatl's teaching she recognized some plants, and knew which berries and plants to avoid. Though, many things were knew to her. Like, how bird nests were built, how the sun shinned off the water, how the dew collected, and the sounds of different birds. Instantly, she let her imagination run wild. She was a Princess and this was her kingdom. This was a place where no one would abandon her, and she'd always be happy. She was a fair Princess, and didn't require too much pampering, but it was still nice. She danced around for her subjects, and even started to have a nice banquet with them.

She found a huge tree, with a split trunk, so that it made a big opening at the bottom, it wasn't big enough for her to actually get into, but she started to collect random objects in the forest to hide. This was her kingdom's treasure, and any person in need was welcome to use it. Though, she doubted she'd actually be happy if anyone stole from her. Next thing she knew, she was fighting pretend thieves and bandits. She had no idea, that somewhere else, a Mare with just a big of an imagination as her's was wandering nearby.

User ImageIt had been many moons since it had happened, many moons indeed; but the experience had been so strange, so REAL, that it still felt like it had happened just last night.

Of course, Liella couldn't remember even a bit of what had exactly happened on Valentine's night. She must have eaten some bad berries--the fermented kind, the ones that she heard caused strange sensations and memory lapses. Kanani had warned her of those, especially on the weekend of "lovers", when they seemed to be most abundant. But she had been so hungry, and they had smelled so good... She half grimaced, half smiled as she recalled her last memories of the night. The beautiful sunset, in hues of gold and red; the wide ocean, sending a warm breeze smelling of salt brushing over her body; the vacant beach, with its soft white sand; and then the dark blue figure, materializing from the rolling waves and inviting her forward. She couldn't have resisted, even if she had wanted to, for the moment was too magical to brush away. And so she had embraced him, as he had embraced her; the rest was lost in time.

In spite of the fairy tale ending, there was no time when Liella had been so much aware of reality as now. The consequences of her dream night were heavier than expected, literally. Her belly was now showing signs of the foals within her, just like her friend Kanani's was. However, unlike Kanani, she didn't have a mate by her side, a motherly compassion, or a clue of what was going to happen. She wasn't mother material! She was young, and lived in the moment. She didn't know how to plan, or to care for, or even how to be responsible. She wasn't ready for this.

That was the reason that she was wandering, almost halfheartedly, around, looking for a miracle, for magic, for anything but reality. Sure, she would love her children, just as any mother would, but she wasn't ready to think of the large responsibility to come. She wanted to escape, if only for a little while; to take her mind off of the future, off of the world. To live in ANOTHER world.

Then she saw something through the trees, and heard sounds of play-making. The creature was small, but whatever it was doing, it looked... fun. Liella moved closer, coming into sight range. Perhaps... perhaps this would be her get-away.

Minuet had been playing for a while now, and hadn't been aware of the mare that had wandered over, until she went looking for some fruit. She took a step toward the lovely mare and froze, stunned to see someone watching her. She was worried that the mare would think she was silly, but her lovely mane caught Minuet's attention as well. One second she was worried she'd be labeled a freak, and the next she was marveling over the lovely mare in front of her. She'd be the perfect Queen for her kingdom! Then she noticed something else, a big round belly.

She was pregnant! Minuet had never met a pregnant mare before, and she'd never met her own mother either. In fact, she had almost hoped to run into her in the forest, though she knew her father had traveled far away, to keep them from running into her mother. Still, this was her chance to know what it was like to be a mother! So she tilted her head a bit, and smiled to the mare at the other side of her little clearing.

"Hello there my Queen!" Minuet already assumed the mare would want to play with her, who wouldn't? And, the mare really looked like she could have some fun right about now. "I'm Princess Minuet! And you've caught me on my way to a banquet! Would you care to join me Queen...?" She twirled once, and trotted up the the mare and looked at her big belly. "I wish I had a mother, they're sooo lucky." She smiled, and looked up into the mare's face. She looked like a kind person, and was obviously a young 'grown-up'.

Liella also froze as the little foal spotted her, unsure if she had startled her, or if she was an unfriendly being. She offered a sort of lop-sided smiled, feeling suddenly very awkward with her adult form and baby-filled belly. Her muscles twitched, unsettled.

But then the filly smiled, and there was obvious curiosity in her eyes as she observed the mare in front of her. Liella listened with open, and very surprised, ears as the little filly addressed her.

"Queen? But I..." she began, not wanting to believe that someone else, especially a stranger, would share her love of imagination. But her recent depression could not keep its hold on her with such an invitation--in fact, it seemed to lift like a cloud as the filly spoke. So she gave a little curtsy, the best she could with her limited range of motion, and grinned widely.

"But of course! Of course I will join you. It would not be proper of a Queen to refuse the request of a beautiful princess!" Already she was playing along, already was she enjoying it. It was what she needed--a get away, a world away from reality. Besides, the little foal was friendly enough, and seemed to want to play just as much as she.

"Oh, THEY?" Liella asked, a bit surprised. She looked down at her belly--she hadn't really thought of the unborn foals as real live children yet, but now that it was mentioned, she realized that they could hear and sense just as well as anyone else, even though they were still inside her. It was a warm, cozy thought. "Yes, I suppose they are lucky. I'm going to be their mother..." Her words were dreamy, almost distant. She sighed. "It's too bad that they won't have a father, though. Fathers are nice, too."

Minuet smiled, and bounded back into the center of her little clearing, jingling the whole way. She was so happy to have found someone else to play with, and she was even more thrilled that it was a grown mare. She'd grown up never knowing her mom, and her father didn't like to talk about her, and now he'd run off to find her. Leaving her along with two strangers and her brother. She turned around, and stared at the mare again, with her large belly. Yes, she knew those foals would be very lucky! "I grew up without my mother, and most of the time my father was gone. If you want, I could help you raise them! They could be the heirs to our kingdom!" Her short little tail flicked with her excitement, and she pranced around a bit, making lovely noises with her bells.

She never knew how she knew exactly what steps to make, in order to produce the perfect little sound, but her dancing always sounded lovely. And though she rarely sung for anyone, her voice was just like that of her bells. High, but in a sweet way, not in an annoying-cover-your-ears way.

"You caught me in the middle of tea time! I was just about to go out in search of the nearest water." She knew where the little creek was, she'd discovered it earlier that day, and it wasn't too far away from their current location.

Liella's eyes grew fairly distant, her mind imagining the tall spires and great halls of some far-away castle. Her parents had told her many fairy tales, no doubt spurring her imaginative nature, but she also had dreams of her own, things that only she had thought of--until this little foal came along. Until now, Liella had thought no such magical kingdom could exist, but this little mare made her see that the magic was here, right before her eyes.

And within her.

"Well, Minuet," she said, her face lightening into a kind smile, "That sounds absolutely wonderful! I could no doubt use a hand to raise my little princes or princesses." Liella watched as Minuet pranced around, her ears flicking forward at the sound of the tiny bells she wore. They were beautiful, and magical in their own way. Liella loved their music, and the way it inspired songs within her.

"Alright, then. We can search for water together! Who knows--perhaps we will see a ship! Or a sea monster!" Her words were excited and encouraging--she knew that there would be no sea monsters in the woods, but with a vivid mind's eye, one could see anything.

"Lead the way, Princess Minuet!"

So Minuet led the way into the beautiful forest, yet in her mind she saw the color of the trees in vibrant shades of blues and purples, her whole world right now looked extraordinary and odd in a beautiful way. She knew where the creek was, but she wanted to have a little more fun with the other princess before getting there. But what could happen that could delay their tea time? She didn't feel like it would be appropriate to fight a monster now, who want want to take on to lovely, innocent ladies anyway?

It was then that a rabbit burst out of the bushes and across their path, followed by some baby bunnies, frantically chasing after their mother. "Did you see that Queen Liella! That bunny had a map!" Where could that bunny be going? She abandoned the thought for their tea for now and dashed after the rabbit. What could the map show them? Hopefully a secret treasure! She followed after them for a while, and at some point the rabbit just dropped it's little map.

"I got it Queen Liella! I got it!" She nosed the little map open, and starred down at it. "It leads toward the creek Queen! We can have our tea and then find some treasure, or we could find some treasure and drink our tea!" She left the decision up to her Queen, and waited patiently for her answer.

Liella's face lit up excitedly, and she nodded, saying, "I do! I do see it!" She hurried along after the little filly, moving as quickly as she could with her large belly. Thankfully, the way was not obstructed with excessive undergrowth, and the grass underfoot was surprisingly soft.

She gasped excitedly when Princess Minuet procured the magical map, and sidled up beside her, running eager eyes over the ancient-looking paper. It was small, but seemed to hold the promise of a great adventure--one that Liella could not pass up.

"I say that we shall find the treasure first, before a band of wily thieves beats us to it! For what good is tea when a load of treasure is at stake? Lead on, my Princess!" Liella exclaimed, her heart brightening as her imagination took hold. She could almost see it--the band of thieves, chests of sparkling gold treasure, a beautiful stream with fairies dancing at the banks!
