Day one... Adinas sat in the strange room upon the bed. His knee's drawn to his chest and staring in the darkness at the door that had closed. The room had felt like a cage, with jailers posted outside to ensure he did not escape.

Day two... Nuumia paid him a visit. He had not disturbed the room's contents, and he suspected that Nuumia's dark eyes were looking for those signs. They had sat and stared at each other in silence for a good hour or so, before Nuumia departed. Not a word had passed between them, but Adinas felt as if a lot had been set in place. Nuumia's jealous features had faded just enough for Adinas to feel a little less afraid for his life.

Day three... Adinas had finally allowed hunger to move him to leave the room. There was no guard posted outside of his door as he had feared there would be. Still, he crept along at a quiet and wary pace. He had come across a guard of giant size hassling one of the servants of the house. His laughter sounded rather ugly and very mean spirited. Without intending to, Adinas found himself using magic spells... A simple invisibility spell cloaked his flesh from visual sight. Afterwords a second spell passed his lips. Instantly his body felt chilled. From head to tow to inner beating heart...Adinas felt cold. He was invisible to the heat sensitive sight of his kindred now. These spells filled Adinas with a sense of elation. He really could be unseen!

Day Four...Day Five... Day Six... Adinas spent the days moving freely through the house in his magical cloaks. He watched the activities of the servants. He learned the schedule of the guards. He became familiar with each of the halls and rooms that he had access to. The shadows were like friends. The darkness was like his brother. His unease and fear melted away as a sense of self confidence followed his exploration. A chance encounter of a near fall down some stairs led to the remembrance of a third spell. His hand caught on the wall and held with a spiders firmness. From that point on Adinas rarely, if ever, walked upon the stone floors again. Walls and ceilings were his preference. Suddenly he found himself unhindered by anything but a locked door! And even then that did not stop him long.

Knock! A wonderful magical spell that unlocked the locked. Chests and doors and boxes gave up their secrets to him. A servant and a guard were having a affair of sorts on the second floor behind the locked door of a closet. The exact actions they performed Adinas did not linger to watch. All he needed to see was who was involved and his curiosity was satisfied. One of the slaves was slipping food to another that was locked in the dungeons. Two others were plotting to poison each other. Another guard was hoarding his gold with the intentions of running away and joining a merchant caravan. So many secrets! So many stories and lies and lives that he could bare silent witness to! Fools kept diary's and journals. Such objects, when he found them, had Adinas hunched in a corner of the ceiling, reading as quickly as he could, and easily retaining each hand written word in his memory.

He was the silent eyes of the House Adinas watched the scurrying of the Patron. How he ran and darted about, as if everything was of the utmost urgency! It was exhausting trying to follow him around! What was even more surprising was how his Patron father did not seem to suffer exhaustion. He leapt as nimbly as a lizard over obstacles, he darted and slipped past crowds without seeming to slow down. Run run run! Dart dart dart! Nuumia seemed to have a hundred things he was looking after, and Adinas found it hard to figure out what one thing he was doing at any time. Checking on dinner, scanning reports from searchers he had sent out looking for someone, probing the halls and searching the smallest niches in a ever diligent round of constant alertness. Nuumia seemed so determined to keep the house in a manic state of high alert, as if an enemy was at the gates!

It was while attempting to keep up with his Patron father that Adinas discovered the loose stonework. The faint brush of fresh air seeping from a narrow crack pulled his attention from following his father and to something more interesting to investigate. A few pokes and prods, and Adinas had pushed the stone in the ceiling up enough to realize there was a open gap within. It seemed the House had many more secrets...and Adinas wished to discover them all.

There followed a period when he ceased stalking the drow of House Torlyl and he focused on learning the thin inner wall passages. They were dusty and dirty...rodents seemed to have made them their home, and the passages were very narrow. All Adin could think was that some of these passages had been created when the House was in the process of being constructed. Walled off workers passages maybe? Or just narrow air passages to ensure the inner rooms of the House got enough air? Who knew? During his exploration, Adinas made a most wonderful discovery! A gap of space between walls formed a nearly perfect square. One he could stand and wander about in even!

This gap...this place Adinas made his own. He did not feel as if he were 'stealing' from the House. As it was his home now. He cleaned the passage ways he used with water and rags. He stocked the room with blankets and bedding. He hung heavy comforters across the other openings to keep the drafts out and any pests...and he added other things. A candle stick from the dining hall. Some books from the library. Spare cloths that belonged to other servants, which he never actually wore himself. He did not attempt to discard the spider webbing that wrapped around him. It was odd really...he could remove the webbing and clean himself, and the webbing could be slipped back onto him just as tight and warm as a second skin. It never seemed to get dirty as far as he could tell. Never tore or shredded, no matter how tight of a squeeze he wriggled though. It was quiet a mystery.

Had it been a week, or a month? For Haellara, it had seemed to be one of the longest times of her life, even if it had been just one Goddess-damned long day. Seeing Adin, her new house male, off to his room, learning of the destruction of her playroom, discovering that after just one night of much-needed and long overdue lovemaking with her patron that they had actually succeeded in her conceiving a child...all of this seemed to set off a chain reaction where time passed in both a blur and a crawl. The first thing she had done was inform Nuumia that the task of completely restoring her playroom was to fall solely upon him. She had been eager to pull apart his smile of relief by telling him rather severely that this was no light and easy task. So many of those potions had been many decades old, the pain-inflicting devices homemade, and as for her revivers.....well, she would certainly be happy that it would not be her own body and mind being ravaged should the opportunity to acquire the spores present itself again.

Meanwhile, with each passing day, her comfort shrunk inch by inch as she began to realize that there was so much more to being with child than merely growing larger. Nearly every morning found her inside the bathroom, feeling as though if she possibly retched any harder, she would see her own two feet fly by. But little by little it began to subside, and of all the injustices, her constant giving back of the contents of her stomach had only seemed to serve to widen it more; she had stood before the mirror in complete and utter bewilderment as she viewed the slight bulge that to her could have stood out halfway across Brundag. What also continued to bewilder her was the fact that she now began to have unbelievably strong desires for the strangest concoctions. They would strike without warning; sometimes in the middle of the night as she arose form a dream, even when she was at the dining table eating, she would be literally slammed with the desire for something else, and she would shove her food away and call for one of the chefs. She had shouted out in the middle of one night for garlic noodles dusted with cinnamon, and another time she had positively screamed from the house library for mushroom soup with cherries floating around in it like sickly red eyeballs. Oftentimes she would be craving something that she didn't even know, and she would storm into the kitchen and demand to sample everything within until she found something that sated her craving. If she didn't find anything, she ordered a random kitchen servant to be taken to the dungeon and left there to starve. Many of the kitchen staff walked on eggshells, and more than half of the servants therein went to bed shaking at the sudden sharp increase of temperament in their mistress.

But they did have one saving grace; their mistress was becoming less seen as well. Haellara found that she tired more easily and felt increasingly more sluggish with each passing day, feeling like a fattening rothe that had gotten into the wrong kind of mushrooms. She found herself actually admiring her dead mother for the very first time; Dilayne had somehow managed to go through this over six times before her death; how in Lolth had she done it? Was there some trick to it, or did it just get easier every time it was done? There was something she fully intended to find out. She would make as many females as she could, and males to serve them if the Spider Queen willed it.

Speaking of males.....Haellara was laying in her bedroom right now, pondering over a mystery that had come to her attention a day or two ago; the wherebouts of Adinas. A while back, she had happened to find herself in the same hallway where Mika's room, now Adin's, had been, and she had decided to chance a small glimpse inside to see what he had done. The place looked rather unremarkable in her eyes; in fact she had noted with some annoyance that it had been so long since she had last snuck in there to observe and have a bit of sport with her slumbering brother that she probably would not recognize any changes if there were any. But one thing she did notice was the absence of the male that was supposed to have been residing there. The place lacked any sort of heat signature; it looked as abandoned as it had when Mika had come of age and spent more time away from the House. This puzzled and unnerved her; wasn't Nuumia supposed to be watching him? She knew that her nwe patron had thrown himself into the role of helping to manage the house with an unusual enthusiasm, but she still would like to think him capable of keeping an eye on one small boy in the process.

She began to ask around; after all, a boy completely clothed in spiderweb was hard to miss, even in a Lolth-worshipping household. But after grabbing her 10th servant/guard and manhandling them until she was certain that they knew nothing of the wherebouts of Adin, she was beginning to worry more than a little. She had stormed back here to her room and fallen on her back, staring up at the ceiling. Where had the little one gone? He had seemed enthusiastic enough to be there with her, even if Nuumia did frighten him so. She sat up in bed suddenly. Of course; that had to be it! He was hiding from Nuumia! As amusing a picture as it painted, she knew that he couldn't stay hidden forever. Perhaps if it were just her...... Haellara closed her eyes and tried to imagine where Nuumia could be hiding...would he be in earshot of her right at this moment? She softly called out, listening to her voice bounce around the room. "Adinas......where are you hiding, little Adin?"

It was hard to miss the signs of his mothers passing. The servants quaked and the guards appeared restless. It was a curious mystery to him. How his mother had seemed to grow and grow and grow. How much bigger would the child be? Often times he would examine himself and imagine something as big as him growing into her. How did it get out!? How could she survive with something so...so large in her!?

He wanted to see....he needed to know. Why? It was not out of a great desire to understand this mystery of female reproduction. Oh no! He needed to know so that he could be certain his mother would not be harmed. It ate at him, causing him to nibble on his fingernails until he pulled the webbing over the nubs to save him from eating them away entirely. When Haellara wandered the halls, he tried to follow her. Creeping silently upon the walls he watched her. Once in a while he scampered to pull something aside or move something a touch closer for her ease. Just small little things as he followed after her between his investigations of the walls of the House.

When Haellara sat alone in her room, she was still being watched. Adinas had followed her in when she had returned to her personal bedchambers so he could investigate the ceiling carefully. He wanted to find a way in from his own personal passageways. If he could manage to bypass all of the doors, then he'd never have to be worried about being stuck in a room for hours because he did not wish to give himself away by opening the door himself. When Haellara sat up, Adinas turned and blinked. She looked startled? Now why was that? Silently he crept towards the middle of her ceiling, his head tilted a bit and his little pointed ears twitched. Where was he hiding?

"Here." He whispered a little more softly then Haellara had called out. With the utterance of the word from his lips, his invisibility spell dissolved. It was not strong enough to hold up against such a break. Though his Spider Crawl spell and the spell that rendered his body as cool as the stone he clung to remained in place. He lifted a hand and brushed his fingers through his loosely hanging bangs. He really should tie it back more securely... With it loose as it was, it kept flopping over his eyes all the time. Of course, he did like the way it hung free around his face when he was standing upright. It felt like a hiding curtain..and Adinas really did like hiding.

Haellara wasn't sure whether or not she had actually expected to receive an answer to her softly spoken query, but the resulting answer caused her eyes to snap open and look around. The voice had been just soft enough to hide any discerning tones; was it really Adinas that had answered her? Or someone else intent on playing tricks on the vulnerable matron? She didn't think anyone else could get in here, but at the moment, her nerves were rattled enough to believe that she could have perhaps missed a few steps in ensuring that no one had snuck in here in her absence.

Keeping her heart rate steady, she slid herself further into the bed and looked around carefully. She didn't see anything out of the ordinary; no heat signatures that looked as though they didn't belong, or materials thrown out of place to provide any hiding places. Maybe she had just imagined it...... she had certainly heard her share of ghostly voices in this room when the love potion coursed through her veins. With a small sigh, she lowered the top half of her down until she was laying on the bed, looking up at the ceiling. She spotted Adin right away, clinging to the ceiling and peering down at her for all the world like a baby rider lizard that had gotten himself covered in spider webs. Her eyes bulged out and she made a startled sound, scrambling back into a sitting up position, as though afraid that the boy might fall on her.

When it became clear that he was securely stuck to her ceiling, she composed herself and smiled up at Adinas. "I was wondering where you snuck of to; what are you doing on my ceiling, little one? Hiding from Nuumia?" She had to admit to herself, he really did look like one of Lolth's special minions, clinging to her ceiling with his limbs all spread out and his hair hanging down. She would love to learn how he came to be up there, not to mention how he had gotten in there and managed to stay while thanks to her bullying, she had had at least half the House looking for him. "You can come down here if you like; it's just you and me for a while."

At first it was fun. Adinas smiled as Haellara would clearly search the room for the source of his word. It was a very fun moment for him indeed. He shifted slowly on the ceiling, reveling in his still hidden nature. She could not find him and here he was! He had been so quick and clever!

Then it was clear he had scared her, and that utterly killed the sense of amusement he had been feeling. Seeing his mother jerk back in such a way and with her eyes so wide...it made him cringe against the ceiling in a guilty manner. Slowly he shifted a few creeping inches towards the corner of her room. He watched as Haellara composed himself, and though her voice was soft and soothing, he was not quick to be calmed. He crept like a dog that had been caught doing something it ought not have been doing. Carefully he crawled down the wall of Haellara's room. His dark eyes with their strange orange glow remained fixed on her the entire time.

To her question, he nodded his head slightly. Yes..he had been hiding from Nuumia. " A...little." He replied softly. His left ear tip twitched slightly as he answered Haellara. Though he came down from the ceiling, he did not set foot upon the floor. Rather he turned about, and sat upon it, as if he were perched on a narrow shelf. His hands remained splayed against the wall and his shoulders leaned forwards slightly His dark eyes swept the room, though he was well aware that there were no other dangers here.

"Been...watching." He finally whispered. "That is where I've been. Everywhere...no where. Just inside though. I have not left the House. Too big...too much to see first. I've watched Patron father. He's busy. Very busy... Sometimes I can't keep up. The doors. The doors you see. I can't move them or people know I'm there. Learning new ways around them though... People can't see me. I've learned not to be there, so it's easier to watch. I've watched you..that's okay right? I can watch?" Adin lifted one spider webbed hand and ran it nervously through his blond streaked bangs and pushed the hair over his right ear. He was nervous...very nervous. His mind seemed scattered in many directions. His eyes kept watching while his mind tried to focus on speaking to Haellara. If he could just calm down a bit he knew he'd be able to make his sentences more complete. He did not want the Matron to think he was wrong in the head. He wasn't!

As she watched Adinas descend from the ceiling, Haellara marveled anew at his agility. He looked for all the world like a great big spider, completely at home clinging to her walls. There could be no doubt in her mind whatsoever that this child had come from Lolth; such a wondrous gift could come from no other source, nor would it have been allowed to endure any other way. She chuckled as she heard the affirmation. "Well, he does have enthusiasm for his work, and I suspected that he would be a hard patron for you, but though he enjoys unnecessary cruelty almost as much as me, I'm confident that he also knows the benefits of refraining when it becomes more beneficial to do so than to just lash out." She had to admit, those times were exceedingly rare, but there were occasions when other forms of persuasion had worked as well as a well-placed stab in the side.

She tilted her head some at the strange way her Adinas was talking. Was he alright? Had his hiding all this time made him touched in the head? Or was he still just trying to make sense of his new surroundings? Perhaps he was finding himself so close to the spiders that he was starting to lose his ability to string proper sentences together and may soon start communicating in spider speech. The thought almost caused her to smile; he would be like a drider without the ugliness. But she could tell that Adin was exceedingly nervous, the way his eyes darted about. That was probably all there was to it.

Brushing herself off daintily and bringing her hands down to fold them neatly over her bulging stomach, Haellara fixed her new son with a thoughtful expression. "Well at least it's good that you haven't ventured outside; I would like someone to go with you when you do; Brundag is a big place and I would not have you lost." She blinked slowly at him. "What do you mean they can't see you? Are you just hiding on the ceiling? Hmm....I may have to notify my guards to look up more often." She held up a hand. "Not that I disapprove of your wanderings, but I do like having my guards vigilant, and your sneaking by them so easily makes me question their competence." She chuckled a little bit then. "Well, obviously there are times where I would not appreciate eyes on me; the bath, for instance. Though it does please me that in your own special way, you are getting to know the comings and goings of the house. It might come in handy further on. Which reminds me....." She ventured one more pat beside her to see if the young one might change his mind about coming down. "Have you come to remember anything else these past weeks? Your life, your profession?"

Adin's small head slowly nodded at Haellara as she spoke of Nuumia. He did enjoy cruelty. He had seen the times when Nuu had taken any excuse to lash out at one of the servants. He was less vicious towards the guards, and Adinas assumed that was because he relied on them to keep the House safe.

"Oh...they are." He spoke with a slight perk to his words. Adinas sat up a bit more strait and he gestured with his fingers in the motion of scurrying in the air before him. "They watch and search. Patron Father keeps them on edge. They look up when I am not quiet enough of accidentally brush against a wall hanging or chandelier. Sometimes it is not so easy to sneak about. I have learned to be patient..and carry snacks in my pockets in case of very long waiting." The more he spoke, the more fluid his sentences became. His black eyes stopped darting about and fixed upon Haellara with more clarity now that he felt more secure in the room. Adinas took the same hand that he had made the scurrying motions with, and he made a few gestures with his fingertips. He needed not speak the words he knew were often used along with his spell, somehow he just knew how to make the spell work with movements.

Adinas cast Invisibility upon himself again. So he could show Haellara why it was her guards could not see him. As the thin magic veil wrapped around him, it obscured him from normal sight. Coupled with the spell that kept his body temperature too low to be picked up by infrared, he felt confidently completely invisible. He quietly crept down off the wall and tip toed towards the bed where Haellara had patted. Only once he was standing there, he spoke again softly, and broke through the invisibility spell. "See? Or..rather you do not See right?" He felt a sense of pride and excitement in the revealing of his sneaking trick. His small lips curled faintly upwards as he eagerly awaited some sort of response from Haellara. He shifted, to sit timidly on the edge of the bed, and his eyes flickered to Haellaras belly as he tried to answer her in a satisfactory manner.

"I do not remember my old life. That time is over. All I remember are the common things. How to eat and speak. How to take care of myself. Things like that, so no one has to bother with me." He glanced up to peer at Haellara. "I know about the Goddess, and I know about her Priestesses. I know about Houses and things like that. But I feel as if I have learned that all here, but I just..don't remember any others. I know I have spells. Many others, but their names slip my mind. I know if I read some books about them, I would recall them very quickly. I know what I do though..I spy. I watch and listen and hear things. I feel like a little spider in the corner of a room sometimes. It feels like a game at times, it is very...enjoyable."

Watching Adin with fascination that she didn't need to fake, Haellara listened with intrigue about the young male's exploits around her house. A thought struck her; if he was so good at finding hiding places in a house that she had grown up in all of her life, perhaps he could help her unravel the mystery of just where Mikaril and Kyil had hidden out right after they had escaped. She was confident that it had been somewhere in the house, but as she had roamed the house with all the appearance of looking for a hapless guard or servant to take her discomfort out on, she had never seen anything that would have been a secure enough hiding place. She should definitely turn this male loose in the House and have him report any secret rooms he might find to her.

Noticing that his talking was becoming better, she smiled as kindly as she could to try and set his mind at ease, but found herself watching with mild curiousity as he gestured with his hands and muttered under his breath. She blinked as he seemed to vanish from her sight, and smiling slightly, she adjusted her sight to search for his heat signature. Seeing none there, she blinked in real surprise and looked all around her for the male. Her ears twitched as she heard Adin's barely perceptible whisper, and as he reappeared, she nodded in awe. "Yes, you are right; I didn't see you at all." She knew that the young male did not mean her harm, but she was exceedingly glad when she was able to see him once more.

She listened intently to Adin, noting his passing glance at her middle. She felt a bit annoyed; every time she went down the halls, that was the first place all of the servants and the guards seemed to be looking. She missed them looking into her face to try and discern her mood; was she murderous, or just slightly murderous? As far as she was concerned, her belly was nowhere near as expressive as her face, and too many stares at it gave her the impression of ill plottings against it. Oh how she wished she could cloak it with invisibility the way this young male cloaked himself!

She nodded and smiled, satisfied at least that Adinas seemed to know just what it was he had been destined to do. "That is well; a spy could really come in useful. And in spite of your wardrobe you do have a rather inoffensive appearance. However, I feel your talents would be wasted if all you did was spy on me, flattering as it is. I am certain that there will be times where I would need the talents of a spy on my side." She smiled again and looked at Adinas reassuringly. "Continue to be useful to me, and your time here will be easier. Already you are in an envious position for being delivered in the manner that you were."

Those smiles were incredibly effective in calming Adinas's tense nerves. His black eyes lit up at the apparent approval that Haellara was showing him, and his youthful face lost the uneasy shadowed expression he tended to carry himself with. "I am very quiet, and I see so many things!" He eagerly boasted to Haellara. I have seen what the guards do when they think they are alone, and I have seen what the servants do. I have found many journals hidden in places they do not think others will find it. I have been good though. I've stayed out of your bathroom, and the ladies bathing chambers too." His boastful words faltered and a faint flush crept into his cheeks, though thankfully the spell he had on him kept the heat signature from becoming visible.

His bright eyed expression faltered as Haellara showed a bit of irritation, though he was not certain why. Perhaps he was spying too much? Was that bad? Or was it his cloths? Now that Haellara spoke of it, he looked down and picked at the webbing covering the back of his hand. "The webbing does not get dirty." He commented uncertainly on the odd quality he had noted with the wrapping. "It keeps me from leaving fingerprints or foot marks where I crawl, and it muffles the sounds of my movements. It is warm when I am cold, and cool when it gets very hot." His black eyes lifted to look at Hael and he hugged his arms around his chest tightly. "I..like watching you... Sometimes I feel that if I do not..something may happen. Something I could stop if I was watching. But..I will not spy on you all the time if you do not want me to." He hastily followed his admittance. "I'll watch anyone you want me to. Is there someone I ought to?" He was eager to be as useful as Haellara encouraged him to be. He found himself wondering a bit how anyone could be envious of him in the least, and his head tilted slightly to one side. "Envious? But...why?"

Had he really seen so much already? Such things that she could have at her disposal, things she could hold over every single trembling head in her entire house. And if what the little one said was true, and he had yet to be discovered by anyone, not even someone as astute as her own patron, they would have no idea how she came by that information. The members of her House would fear her three times as much as they did now, and any pending insurrections would be crushed into the dust! Oh yes, here was one magnificent gift the Spider Queen had sent her, though it still continued to puzzle her as to why he has been sent at all when she had apparently so dangerously displeased her.

Well, at least the boy had a sense of propriety, although she wouldn't be the least bit surprised if he one day took back that idea and started peeking in on the girl servant's quarters. Such a thing was common for a male, and it wouldn't be the first time she would have to nudge a male in that particular direction. She could still remember her prodding for Nuumia to learn the ways of longing and pleasing.

She pondered then as Adinas would express his actual liking of keeping an eye on her. It should have irked her, but instead.....she found the though pleasing and even a little ridiculously comforting. She knew the boy had no discernable weapons on his person, and yet.....knowing that he would be there, watching for any sign of danger, might work wonders to ease her pregnancy in the coming months. With an extra set of eyes on her, and one that nobody will be expecting, unlike her patron, she might have less to worry about, and she could focus more of her energy toward where it needed to go; carrying this confoundedly heavy thing inside of her for the upcoming months. There were times when she felt as though she must be sitting down every other minute, and she swore once or twice she had felt it moving inside of her, as though it wanted out even more than she did. She only hoped that it would not get strong enough to find it's own way out before it was time.

She smiled and decided to answer the second question first. "Envious because you are a gift from Lolth. That alone makes you a step-up from the average male. You also possess spells that regular males would be knifed for having, and your size makes you small enough to hide practically anywhere, which brings us to the second point." She leaned in as far as was confortable for her. "Yes, there is something I would have you do. I would like you to continue exactly what you are doing, but with one exception. Keep eyes and ears open for any sign of threats being made against me. Day by day I find myself more wanting of friendly eyes to ensure that I survive this time of vulnerability. Can you do that for me? Can you make sure we are safe, this child and I?"

Adinas kept his bright eyes upon Halleara as she seemed to mull over his sudden outburst of boastful confessions. He found himself leaning towards her a bit, his small fingers dug into the blanket beneath him. Had he a tail he surly would have been wagging it like a eager over world puppy longing for a sign of approval from it's master. The fact that Haellara thought he was better then most males made his eyes crinkle in the corners from the large smile he expressed. Though it did falter some at the realization that his spells would have gotten him seriously hurt, or even killed. He did not want that, it was why he hid so often. He preferred escaping everyone's notice. Yet at the same time he really desired Haellara approval. Without even realizing it, he longed for that smile. That look of pride that told him he was doing a very good job. His own smile faltered a bit as Haellara leaned in. Though it was not replaced by unease or fear. No..He did not really...fear Haellara. he feared her displeasure. He feared her disapproval. Goddess! He feared failing her! But this woman herself, this Mother of his...he did not fear -her-. He wanted her to reach out and just..touch him. A little pat. Something for him to cling to and feel validated by.

"Oh." He whispered in response to Haellaras confidential orders. His black eyes widened a bit, and the orange glow shimmered in the corners. "I do..I do... I will. I watch all the time. I hear what the servants say. I hear what the guards say. I know who thinks badly of you. I read it in their journals. Anger and bitterness, but fear too. They are far too afraid to try anything, or feel they simply could never succeed." Adinas found himself pouring out everything to Haellara. About the guards who were helping themselves to a few extra coins. To the servant that was sneaking food to another in the dungeon. From small secrets to larger ones. Everything he had learned he offered with no real prompting from Haellara. But he included some of the odd or good bits of spying too. Like the one guard who was taking extra shifts, or the servant that was secretly studying cooking books and sneaking into the kitchen late at night to practice the new recipes. Or the cleaning maid at the temple that spent night after night in prayer for something he had not yet discovered yet. Adin shifted on the bed and when his tongue stilled he felt flushed.

"I... I will make sure nothing happen to you. Either of you. I promise mother."

It hardly surprised her, what Adin proceeded to tell her about the unrest within her own house. She was well aware that there was no such thing as a completely harmonious house, and all sorts of miniature mutinies and conspiring was to be expected. But what an advantage to have a means of rooting them all out at the same time! Such a thing was what many matron mothers could only dream of. How generous Lolth had been to her! She saw the hunger in the young male's eyes; not a feral sort, but the sort you might see from a dutiful servant anxious to know if he has pleased his mistress, that in itself being the only reward he could possibly want. She had seen that look often when Mikaril had been a young page prince, so eager to show his mother that he was worthy of being her son. How she had adored seeing that look in his eyes dashed to pieces time and again as Dilayne had sought to remind him that no matter how hard he had tried to gain her favor, he was a male, and therefore a disappointment.

She blinked at the sudden outpouring of information, more than she could possibly use in a night or even a week. Adin had been quite a busy boy when they had all thought he was settling in; Hell, had he even slept this entire time? He was a veritable wellspring of information, both the kind that caused her to ball up her fists and the kind that unclenched them. Already she was attempting to keep pace; kill the guards who were stealing the coins, starve the servants who were being snuck food to, assign more responsibility to the guard taking more shifts, and moving the aspiring cook to work under the tutelage of the best of her chefs; no sense in letting talent go to waste, especially when it could benefit her. As to the maid, well......she would be happy to let Adin continue his investigation there, since he seemed to like it so much. She had to admit, one tended to excel at their profession if they already liked it.

She smiled and nodded when Adin ceased to pour out his secrets, and she reached out to carefully give him a pat on the knee. "You have been keeping busy, and discovered more than I have ever thought possible in such a short time. You have pleased me greatly, and I am glad that you wish to continue by helping Nuumia protect us. If there is anything you feel that you need to aid you in your spying; notebooks to take notes in so that you don't have to commit so much to memory, or any type of potions or supplements to keep your strength up, feel free to let me know. I may come off as unreasonable, but even I see the good quality job done by a male with the proper tools as opposed to none at all."

Adin's hopeful look changed slightly to one of gratification with that single simple pat to his knee. She approved! He had pleased her! He felt his shoulders relaxing a bit, and his dark head bobbed up and down multiple times. "Yes...yes. If I think of anything I will ask. Right now I have all I need." He eagerly spoke. Adin's dark eyes swept through the room and back towards the door. "I will..go now then? And let you rest?"

He turned his questioning gaze back upon Haellara. He did not have any pressing matters to attend to, but after giving her that freight he did want to give her a chance to relax in peace.

Haellara almost chuckled aloud at the unspoken response her mere touch generated. How nice to have such an effect on males! Granted, it wasn't the effect she had become accustomed to, but then again, he WAS just a little boy, and ought not to really be thinking that way of her anyway. But if it helped fuel his eagerness to help her, then all was well.

She nodded her acquiesence. "Yes, you may go now and continue keeping your watchful eyes out for anything malicious toward me. Do a good job, and I shall not be tempted to tell Nuumia where you're hiding, because he is no doubt looking very hard for you." She managed a wink at Adin before laying back down; she knew he probably wouldn't be able to tell whether or not she was joking. Still, she had already made up her mind not to tell Nuumia. Unexpected failure was a lesson that was good to learn, and she already felt somewhat safer knowing the little gift from Lolth was out there, watching, waiting, and keeping the both of her safe.
