When a character dies... dont they just give them a pheonix down? So why didnt they just give Aeris one? Oh.. and if youre thinking Characters in battle are 'Downed' not dead, if that is the case then why dont they use the 'life' magic from the revive materia??? I could never understand the logic to that.. can someone PLEASE educate me on this?

Its just like on a different game I have played, in battle the spell/item always works, but then Oh No!!! cutscene...someone dies/gets hurt, whatever shall we do, quick heal them... too late...use a phoenix down/revive...OMG it doesn't work... anyone else realise how many people die in FF4? Palom n Porom, Cid, Tellah, god how many deaths do they need???

Well that is a good question but if you look at it thw world would be a nuisence if every time someone died magic brought them back so they probably figured that when they decided to only revive characters that are killed in a battle.

First off, I DO agree with everyone, that's like when you're fighting someone who becomes an ally, they're 10x stronger than when they join you. But in this case, you've only been knocked out, you're HP is more like stamina or strenght, once it's gone, you pass out from exhaustion. Death would need like...super heavy phoenix downs.

Did you read the first post? i addressed that... they could use the life magic thing from the revive materia! i already talked about the unconciousness and actual death... stare

Death is permenant, think of the characters 'dying' in battle more so as being KO'd. Not to mention the masamune is a legendary weapon, and the only time it gets used to kill someone in the game, is during that cut-scene. When you battle Sephiroth, he doesnt use it against you at all, and when you get to the final battle when its just Cloud vs. Sephiroth, He doesnt even get a chance to hit you. So the way I see it, the Masamune, because it was made by Masamune, has the ability to permenantly kill something so it cannot come back.

Oh yeah, quick comment before anyone tries to contradict me, the only reason Cloud didnt exactly die is because of Jenova's cells, as Lucrecia reveals, people with the Jenova cells dont die easy.

you idiot every body knows that there just unconcious and the game over happens when there all unconcious because there is no longer any one to stop the enemy from killing them, and no one else was ever impaled by a huge freaking sword

I don't think it's as obvious to everyone as it seems to be to Shadowswordsmen; I mean, what's the difference between being gouged by a "huge freaking sword" and being smashed into oblivion by some giant monster? I mean, isn't Ultimate Weapon's sword even bigger?
Another plausible explanation is that Sephiroth has some kind of power that makes it impossible for his victims to regain consciousness if he does a certain move, like he came from above for Aeris. *shrugs*
In FFVIII, however, they did indeed begin referring to it as "K.O.'d", so that heavily supports the knocked-out argument... So that's where I'm putting my money.
