Rushing into the clinic, the selkie woman's feet slapped harshly against the floor as she hesitated and did a double take, looking for the clinic's counter. She ran towards the area and gripped the counter's edge and heaved for air, her shoulders edging down and up as her lungs were at work.
"Excuse me, doctor?" she managed to mouth between short gasps. "I-I apologize for being late. I think I had an appointment an hour ago? Oh gracious! I was out for a swim and I lost track of time and-"
Turning her head, Issa noted the long trail of salted water that had dripped off of her as she rushed into the clinic. Returning her head back to its original position, Issa slumped her shoulders and bowed her head.
"Oh gracious, I apologize again . . . ! I did not mean to make such a mess!"
Issa has never been on time for an important event since she could remember. Her mother would say that since she was born late, the problem would follow suit. Issa's mother words seemed to be truth as the selkie woman was late for another major appointment. Sighing, Issa combed back her hair.
"I guess . . . my appointment is canceled?" she questioned, feeling an upset tingle roll in the pit of her abdomen. "I won't be able to schedule another one, right?"

Selma leered at the woman from her seat behind the desk. Because of that woman's carelessness, some of the salt water that covered her body had splashed onto one of Selma's precious magazines. If Nurse Violet hadn't come in the room at that very moment, who knows what might have happened.
"Oh my goodness~!" Violet exclaimed, running into one of the rooms and returning with a towel. "Are you alright ma'am?" She proceeded to wrap the towel around the woman, not having a clue that he wasn't particularly uncomfortable in that state or anything.

Issa inclined her head ever so slightly to the positive. "Yes." she replied with a faint smile, noting the tensing aura of the other to the side of her. "I am alright . . . thank you. Um, I was suppose to have an appointment today . . . but was unfortunately late. D . . . Do you have any information about that? M-My name is Issa, Issa Floriven, if that is important . . . "

"Oh," Nurse Violet replied, sounding almost confused. "Oh! Okay," she said, sounding much more certain of herself. "I'll go get the doctor," she told Issa, hurrying to the back, and nearly slipping as she went down the hall. Her feet must have still been wet. She left the towel.
A few moments later, Ronchas came in. "It's a good thing we're not busy today," he chucked. "A good thing." He opened his office door and gestured to her to follow.
Once they were inside he closed the door. Violet's voice could still be heard outside. "Woah" Thump. "I guess I should clean this up."

Issa made a small, undecipherable noise as she entered the office. To her, it gave off a mundane air . . . almost welcoming? Whatever the case, the Selkie woman was unsure of what to do next. She had never been inside an actual human being's building before, save for the couple of times she had to use the bathroom on land and figure out how to work the ivory contraption in the female designated section. She never truly figured it out after her one incident of overflowing the swirling machine with the light pieces of tree-cloth.
Flicking her head about like a newborn seeing the world for the first time, Issa forwarded herself over to the sit machine made of wood. Slipping her dripping bum over the cushion, she tilted her head at the doctor. A clueless look formed on her face, but she never opened her mouth to ask a question. So much for the start of the appointment.

Ronchas watched her movements and realized he would probably have to be very patient with this woman. He had no problem with it, as long as she was going to be patient with him. "You are interested in becoming a mother, yes?" He didn't actually mean for her to answer, that's why she was there, wasn't it? So he continued without pausing long enough for her to speak. "Our clinic offers parents who are unable to conceive the chance to have children. Some come in because of incompatibility of species or gender, and I can help them. Some parents have genetic or other health problems that make it difficult to conceive or carry a child. We are also able to help men and women who have no significant other or only a remnant of them have a child." He hoped that had all made sense to her, so he stopped long enough for her to take it all in and ask any questions she might have.

Some of the words slipped passed her ears, her mind incapable of pulling the meaning of what they mean. If Dr. Ronchas was gifted with the ability of Selkie Song, maybe she would've understood better. However, she got the gist of what the man was saying: She came to the clinic for a reason and of course, that reason was to be blessed with two children and become a mother. Issa nodded her head slightly, absorbing the words she did understand. Nervousness suddenly forced its way through and her insides shuddered. She finally had a chance to be a mother . . . Finally!
Nodding her head again, this time with assurance, Issa slowly opened her mouth. "How will it be done?" she asked at first following said question with another question. "Is the process compl . . . icated?

"Normally, people come here with a mate," Ronchas tried to adjust his words to suit her better, beginning to get a feel for what she was understanding and what was his usual jargon. "When they don't, there are two options: Cloning and DNA donation. The second makes for healthier children in the long run. But then, you'll have to either bring some DNA that isn't yours or you'll have to select from our list." He rummaged around for a large binder filled with information on donors affiliated with the shop and placed it on the table. "If that is too much, I can always find one suitable for you," he suggested.

The Selkie went through her options, trying to pick one that fit her best. Finding herself a partner, be it a human or Selkie man, was out of the question . . . she had trouble approaching a human male and any Selkie man would never want to have used goods due to their vain personalities. Skimming her eyes down the list, Issa carefully considered her possibilities. At first, she thought herself picky; denying the choice of a centaur because they were part beast or a nixie for their seductive ways. Sighing, Issa loosened herself. She came to the understanding that no matter what she picked or what was picked for her, she'd love her children. Turning her gaze up to Dr. Ronchas, she nodded her head.
"I would like you to one suitable, please." she asked in calm tone, nodding her head to her choice.

Ronchas nodded. "Then I'll go through the list and find the most genetically suitable one for you. I just need a sample of your DNA and I'll get to work and call you back in a week or so." He looked her over again. "Or would you just like to come in again in about a week. It will be ready when you are." It probably would work best that way, wouldn't it? She didn't exactly seem the type to be reachable by phone, after all.

Issa nodded her head. A week was seven 'days' yes? Humans were such funny little creatures to her. But whatever the case, she'd have to take note of the moon every night to reassure herself that she will not be late again. Picking herself up from her seat, Issa moved herself towards the door. "We are done, yes?" she asked, too quick in a hurry to leave the office. Her skin was becoming dry and she'd have to return to the sea soon, so she'd have to make sure what was most important was done first.

"Yes, ma'am, we are, indeed," Ronchas chimed, returning to his usual self now that the work was done. He smiled as she left, then looked down at the salt-water soaked chair. "Well, I had intended to replace those soon anyway," he mumbled to himself.

Issa bustled out of the doctor's office and out the front door from which she came. Places upon her skin began to grow patchy from the air but it was not long until she reached the salted waters of the beach. Issa swam and swam until she met her sister waiting for her by the side of the beach. Nula bent her head sideways before Issa called out to her in rough seal barks. The selkie sister yipped up and down at this. Issa was finally going to be a mother.
