Act 1: Limits
Part 1: Orestes
The GRE-Cobalt drifted through space in silence, it was part of a small patrol group monitored the outer rim of the Empire after Romulus' coup. Onboard the Cobalt was a contingency of around 350 personnel ranging from medical officers, infantry, and Tactical officers. It had been a casual job, with occasional system sweeps, and the not so often "Boredom break". Of course most of the personnel took their jobs seriously, some merely wanted some action.
As the crew maintained to themselves, the observation deck was occupied only by one person, an Ompim by the designation of "Orestes". The observation deck had always been his place, his escape, his sanctuary if you will. From there he could gaze out into the stars and think, from this little sanctuary he didn't have to deal with the obnoxious humans below. He stood in his Legio armor, it was as black as the void of space and had a pauldron covering his right shoulder, hanging from his waist to his knees was a kama, each was colored black and highlighted with red trim. He was part of the Terror Legion, or as the Ancient Romans would've called them: Frumentarii .
This of course made him stand out from the rest of the personnel, for he had been the only Frumentarii agent aboard that ship, and for all its worth, the ship only needed one. Though it never phased him when the other legionnaires would stare or talk quietly as he passed them, he was far from being hurt by emotional warfare. If anything he was a master of playing with others emotions and creating facades that only he would know were in place. It could be a cruel thing to do, but sometimes it was necessary and it earned him a reputation of suspicion and animosity. Still it would not phase him, nothing did.
Regarding the animosity however there were exceptions to this.
"Orestes."
the voice was from a young lieutenant by the name of Henry Daniels, he was a nice young man with ambitions and dreams of heroism. A stereotypical image of a Roman soldier if anything. He had a loose relationship with Orestes and were more of acquaintances than friends. Still so far Henry and-
"There you two are."
Renee Carter, a heavy weapons soldier belonging to the same unit as Henry, appeared on the observation deck. Orestes sighed, even if they were both "close" to him, he still always appreciated quiet and peace.
"And to what do I owe you two the favor of this visit."
His voice was almost robotic and lacked emotion but it was something the two Legionnaires had gotten used to.
"Well,"
Henry started first placing a gloved finger on his chin in thought,
"We were just bored and decided to come and find you, considering we're on our "Boredom break"."
Orestes sighed at Henry's response
"If anything make yourself busy and clean your armor or something productive."
Renee raised an eyebrow,
"Henry, clean?"
she laughed
Renee sighed, all three of them had been in their armor,
"So why do you always come up here Orestes?"
Orestes looked back at her, three of his eight eyes stared at her, they were empty pools of black and to others were quite frightening.
"I come up here to relax and to allow myself thought."
Renee shrugged and Henry shook his head at her.
For the rest of the thirty minutes the three talked about things that otherwise would've made Orestes leave, however they were his closest things to friends and for that he would deal with them.
