Name: Elizabeth Hawk
Gender: Female
Age: 41
Appearance:
Tan complexion, with steely gray eyes and long black hair, usually fastened into a braided bun at the back of her head. A few streaks are going gray. She stands at about 5'6" with a stocky build. A long, jagged scar runs across the bridge of her nose, and another one runs diagonally from the top of her right shoulder to the curve of her left hip. These scars are the most notable aspects of her appearance. Elizabeth doesn't particularly like to flaunt her wealth, but she does like nice clothes, simple and well-made. She tends to dress more like a gentleman than a lady.
Biography:
Elizabeth was born and raised in poverty. She grew up picking pockets as a means of survival, and eventually moved on to bigger and better crimes. Her earlier teen years were spent in small gangs of other children ranging in age from the single digits to later teens. It was a juvenile form of organized crime, which would soon become her life. When she was eighteen, she found an honest job as a spare hand working on a small trade ship. The ship was later hijacked by pirates, and the entire crew was to be killed - however, on a whim, the pirates' captain offered to spare the lives of anybody who was willing to join her crew instead. Elizabeth, being a survivor by nature, jumped at the chance.
She spent the next few years as a low-ranking grunt on that ship, and it was there that she learned to love sailing the skies. It was also there that she hardened herself to what was happening around her. Piracy sounded romantic at first - freedom, money, adventure - what more could an independent young woman want? Of course, those things have all been glorified beyond recognition, and it was long weeks spent in the sky, a brutal hierarchy, and murder that she got instead. It doesn't matter if you're working under the law or outside of it; when you're at the bottom of the stack, it's all the same. Elizabeth was not satisfied at the bottom.
I won't go into details anymore here, because if I did, I'd be writing you a novel. Basically, Elizabeth participated in a coup d'etat on board that first ship and managed to land herself in a higher position. Through murder, bribery, and sheer determination, she has clawed her way to the top and she doesn't care who she had to step on to do so. She now owns a small (but growing) fleet of airships, and she delegates the responsibility of running them all to her three captains, who delegate to others, who delegate to others, and... you get the idea.
(tl;dr)
Poor girl climbs her way to the top through criminal activity.
Occupation:
She started out in piracy, but now she's more specialized. Her crew no longer hijacks and plunders whatever they can find - instead, they've formed several trade routes that carry both legal and illegal items to their destination. On the legal side, grains, spices, textiles, and the like; on the other side, information, weaponry, drugs, and occasionally human beings. All travel these routes and end up in the hands of dealers who are willing to pay well for their cargo to arrive safely. The name Hawk is a reliable one in the black market. Pirates in both the air and on the seas, and even legitimate, well-respected businessmen have been bought into helping her trafficking business. The route has been nicknamed simply "the Shortcut", referring to its don't ask, don't tell policy and fast work.
Personality/Relationships:
A distrusting person by nature, Elizabeth has very few friends. She can count them all on one hand, actually - her three captains, and her personal bodyguard. She is a good-natured woman for the most part with a teasing sense of humor, though she can turn cold and ruthless at a moment's notice if the situation calls for it. Despite her occupation, she has a strong sense of honor and if she feels she is in someone's debt, expect that debt to be payed back in full. This woman is worth having on your side.
She's no hero, and she knows this - all that matters to her is that she got what she worked for, never mind that her work involved things that are against the law for good reason. She grew up with crime as a way of life, and she has always kept that mentality.
(Holy wall of text, Batman!)
