The heavy, loud sigh drifted through the rooms of the home of Pastela and Woobie. The origin of this sigh came from Pastela, who was sitting at a table thumbing through a book titled 'So your child is Mute'. Her daughter had been here for more than a month, but still, she spoke not a word. She'd grown from child into a teen, but uttered no sound at all.

She wasn't dumb, Pastela knew, since the girl had picked up Sign Language the instant they had brought home the book to teach it to her.

Woobie wandered in to see Pastela sitting reading a book. "What's going on?" He asked as he swooped down to kiss her cheek. She had been so worried lately about their daughter. Woobie wasn't as worried, but he did know something wasn't right, just didn't know what.

A smile crept onto Pastela's lips as Woobie planted a kiss on her. "Hey...." She looked up at him, her usual cheerful aura seemed to be gone and there was a tired look in her eyes. "I can't find anything about this, Woobie.... Not a single reason why our daughter can't speak....." Her voice caught in her throat and tears began to well at the corners of her eyes.

Woobie saw Pasetla's tears and quickly wiped them away. "Now, dear, you shouldn't worry." He pulled up a chair and sat down next to her, taking her hand into his. "If there isn't a reason, maybe it's just a phase?" He didn't' want her to worry.

Gently squeezing his hand, Pastela bit her lip and looked down. "Woobie..... I know she can talk." After a pause, she looked back up at him. "When you were out, I was cleaning a bit and she was down for a nap. She must have had a nightmare or something because I heard her scream. By the time I got to her room, though, she had woken herself up and wasn't vocal again...."

"Really? I wondered what had happened to the poor dear before you found her." What could have caused her to have nightmares and to be silent? He looked at Pastela and smiled, "Please, don't worry." She would be ok, he knew it.

Heaving a hefty sigh, Pastela nodded. "Whatever happened... we'll be sure to keep her safe." Scootching her chair closer to Woobie, she rested her head on his shoulders. "Do you think she'll ever speak to us?"

Woobie patted her hand and kissed her head. "Yes, we will." She was family now. Whatever had happened would not happen again. "Someday, I'm sure she will." He reassured her as much as he reassured himself.

Looking up at him, she smiled. "What would I ever do without you, Woobie...?" Closing her eyes and losing herself in his presence, she gave a relaxed sigh. "We should try again... don't you think? For children I mean."

Tourmalin had wandered inside after playing with her mother's protective wolf. She'd come in to hear her parents talking about her and paused to listen. She looked down as she heard them wonder if she'd ever speak to them, and something tugged hard at her making tears spring into her eyes. Was she such a burden to them?

"Sure, I would love me. I bet Tourmaline would love having brothers and sisters." He smiled. She did have a brother named Regan. He wondered if it was time they met? "Do you think Tourmaline would like to meet Regan, would you like to?"

Pastela smiled and nodded. "Perhaps you should invite your half of the family over for dinner. I know I'd like to meet them, and I'm certain it'd be good for her too. She should know the extent of our family; my side is huge, but she also has your half of the family too... And I want them to be as much of a part of all of our lives as possible."

Tourmaline smiled a little, hearing her mother talk with such passion. She was rather curious for her dad's side of the family, since she saw her mother's side so often she had begun to wonder if her dad really had any other family. Knocking softly on the wall and walking in, she smiled to the both of them.

"Yeah, that would be nice. Regan can bring Lulu, his wife, and Tiki Jim, his son. It would be a nice renuion." He smiled thinking he would send a message via squirrel soon.

Woobie looked up to Tourmaline, "There's out beautiful girl. She's getting so big." Woobie smiled and then patted a chair next to them. "Pull up a chair, sit a spell."

A brightly blush came onto Tourmaline's face and she smiled. Giving both of her parents hugs, she sat down on a chair next to them and instantly began signing. Asking them about who Regan was, she expressed her excitement on meeting Woobie's side of the family and wondered when they would be arriving.

Pastela giggled a little at their daughter's excitement. "I'm sure your father will be sending out a messenger soon to ask them to come visit, darling."

Woobie was happy to see how excited she was. "Well, there is Regan, my son. His wife Luau Lulu and their son Tiki Jim." He didn't know where his daughter went, but Regan would come. "Shall I send a messenger for a dinner party tonight?"

Amadorine nodded her head energeticly, a huge grin plastered on her face.

"Yes, Please do!" Pastela smiled brightly, then looked at their daughter and laughed. "And it seems as if Ama has the same positive feelings about this!"
