~~~~Why Can't Little Boys and Girls Sleep in the Same Room~~~~
Lani's grandma, a short plump French woman, had ordered them to bed. He followed suit in spite of the fact he wasn't "sleepy yet." What could he say about it anyway. In the natural world children didn't protest the regulations of the adults. Despite his argument, he didn't mind much, because Lani's grandma let them stay up longer than his mother.
Since her as new to the residence, he wasn't sure where he would be bunking for the night. By default, he assumed he would be sleeping in the same room as Lani. Lal's aspirations lifted. Laying next to a sleeping Lani excited him, eventhough it was a trivial matter. His heartbeat flared as the hall became unusually warmer. He felt everything around him was moving slower and way too fast at the same time. Lani's grandma was tailing behind when she suddendly halted him at the door. The sudden body contact in his tension, caused him to almost stumble over in surprise, fortunately he caught himself in time. Unfortunately, his enchantment was dishelved and dropped into the abyss that was the pit of his stomach. There it kept falling and falling and he felt every sickening measurement of it's descent. He watched Lani continue across the threshold. Her grandma's dated French echoed in his head. "Vous saves les garcons et les filles ne peuvent pas dormir dans la meme chambre."
Lal' voilently hopped onto the large bed. Hopping of rather jumping was nearly necessary, the short Lal' to get on the triple stacked mattresses. The summit was soft from the hefty sheeting. Since it was the beginning of summer, the heat discouraged envelopment, even with the a/c on full power. That being, it was also too warm to be wearing the tight, long-sleeved pajama top, he was too embarrassed to strip in front of Lani.
Lal' felt stupid, why was he too chicken to take off his shirt? He removed and displayed a bare chest, everytime he went swimming, with Lani present. All the boys did. But not the girls. As far as Lal' knew he'd never seen a female belly button. Why didn't the girls ever take off their shirts? He wondered if it was for the same reason they couldn't sleep in the same room with boys. Lal' pondered the vast hypocricies of the world, til the point he couldn't close his eyes. He pulled the covers over him, in spite of the heat. Without them he felt vulnerable. He twisted and turned letting the thoughts jumble in his mind. The last thing he thought as he uncounciously fell to exhaustion was, "I'm thirsty."
