The mud-colored foal was still clumsy, still getting used to his gangly limbs and this awkward thing called 'walking'. He was real good at the 'sleeping' and 'lying down', but walking was still a challenge. But this little guy was determined, and so he practiced and practiced until he had control over most of the movements his body would make. Still sometimes his tail would flick and brush up against his side, making him jump and growl, but his legs were... mostly... obedient now. That is, not to say that he didn't tumble and trip over roots and stones in the ground, in fact, he did that rather often, ending up face-first in the mud. But that only made him push harder.
Today's walk had started out well, no trips so far! But he was slowly making his way down a windy path that led to a small stream. Here, he knew there were fish, small fish. And these, he liked to pretend he could catch. He would fight with them and struggle to keep the slippery bodies in his mouth, but more often than not, they managed to escape and he was simply left dripping wet, with a silly smile on his face.
Today, he didn't feel much like catching fish, but he knew he was thirsty! And so down to the trickling stream he went, contemplating what he should do after he quenched his thirst.

Daisy Chain managed to sneak away from his mother, Blossom. She would keep a close eye on her son, seeing as how her three other children went elsewhere. She could have sworn she saw the twins leave in the direction of their father. Lucky buck. But she loved her little pink foal with all of her heart. And it entertained him to see her worry and panic as to where he could be. He giggled now and bounded around, legs and tail flying everywhere. He could almost see his mother's face now, eyes wide, looking under rocks and logs. Sure they would reunite eventually, he never wanted to cause her too much stress.
Finding a break in the treeline, he spied something strange..it was a long pond, and the water moved! It was kind of like the little spring his mother would take him to to drink, but this one stretched from left to right. Giggling again, he stumbled over, lost his footing, and rolled into it. Good thing it was shallow, and he hit the pebbles on the floor with a large splash. A few bruises wouldn't stop the little foal as he simply laughed and kept splashing.

A few good strides away from the stream, Earthshake stopped, not believing what his eyes were telling him. There, in the water was now another foal, pink and orange, splashing about and giggling! That's where he was just heading! It only took him a moment of stalling to get his limbs back in tow and run down to the water.
Hitting the water with his forelegs, he sent water splashing everywhere, and when it all settled, the brown foal was left standing there, soaking wet, with a devilish grin on his face. His eyes turned to look at the other foal and had a certain twinkle in them, that obviously posed a playful challenge.

Daisy Chain closed his eyes happily as the cool water collided with his fur. What a refreshing sensation. But wait a second, that last splash wasn't his...He opened his eyes to see a kimeti his size, maybe a little bit larger..and the color of mud! Mud was fun to play in, cool and slimy, and a great way to worry his mother. He chuckled at the other foal, seeing a grin that Daisy Chain knew all too well. He smiled pleasantly at the young foal near him and kick up his legs to splash him back. He loved the way his cheeks glowed blue, like magical tears.
"My name is Daisy Chain! But you can call me Bud like mommy does," he said, boisterously and with another splash he asked, "What's your name Muddy?" He decided to give him a nickname anyways, since addressing himself as "other foal" seemed weird..even though he was about to learn his name..

A smile returned his grin, so Earthshake was sure that the other would accept his challenge, and just as he was about to jump again, his face was met full-on by an impressive wave of water brought on by the other foal's kick. Aha! Now it was a game! He brought up his forelegs again in a rear, flailed them about a bit and then brought them back down into the water, spraying water in all directions, and even getting some in his own eyes.
While he rubbed his face along part of his leg, trying to rid it of the water, the mud-colored foal replied to the other's inquiries. "My name is Earthshake, but you can call me Quake, if you like. Where's your momma? I ran away from Dad. He tries to keep us all together, but there's four of us and only one of him." He chuckled at the image in his mind of his father freaking out and trying to still each of his siblings, demanding that they take a luck charm or a protective charm with them at all times. His own was a feather, wrapped firmly around a back leg with a thin, strong vine. Dad had made sure it wasn't loose because otherwise it could get torn off or lost. Ahhh, Dad worried too much!

Daisy Chain laughed and squeaked, his voice high even for a foal. He fell on his rump and sat there for a moment. Listening to the other foal, he grinned and spoke, "That's a co-win-si-dance!" The word was poorly pronounced and sounded like it was cut into pieces and laid on the floor. He heard his mother say it, but it was still too difficult for him.."Well. I mean I ran away from my mommy too! It's fun to make her panic. It's like a game! But I go back before dark. I don't wanna make her too scared. She says a croca-die could come out an' get me! Croca-dies are scary. She says they have big teeth!" And with that last sentence Bud bared his teeth. Well..gums. His teeth were just starting to grow in and the little foal licked his sore gums tenderly. "You have three bros and sisses? I have three too. But momma says that I'm the only one who found her. I dunno what my siblings look like.." said the little pink foal. And with that he lifted a leg to douse the other foal again, as if he had been dry too long and must be watered like a growing flower.

Quake listened patiently to the other foal and nodded along when it seemed necessary. But more than anything, he was itching to do something, and so when he was thoroughly soaked by a particularly large unexpected splash, the brown foal dove right into the opportunity.
He stood up and began prancing about in the water, hopping up and down with stiff legs, causing as much splashing as he could manage, particularly when he could manage to get it in the direction of the other foal. And when a window opened for it, Quake gaged a good pounce, he reared up onto his back legs and with a mighty war cry, jumped straight at Daisy Chain, with the intent of baring his... gums... and growling for good measure.

Daisy Chain giggled until his small body shook as the other foal splashed around him. Yet when Quake growled at him, the little pink foal squealed with a high-pitched "EEEEEEEK!" Faster than anyone could imagine, he bounded out of the stream and behind a bush, his frontside close to the ground and his backside pointing towards the sky.
Peeking out from his hiding spot, the foal asked. "A-are you a croc-a-die?" he said, shuddering. The foal looked like any old foal. But he was scaarweyy!

When the pink foal squealed and ran, faster than lightning, Quake froze, eyes wide and unblinking, not quite sure what had happened, or why the other had run away. That is until the foal poked his nose out of the bushes he was hiding behind, at which point Quake quickly regained his composure, lifting his head in the air and striding over, chest puffed out.
When he got over to the spot where the pink foal was hiding, he lowered his head down so that he could look Daisy Chain in the eye, and asked, "Is this what croc-a-die's look like?" A sly grin on his face told that he was being coy, but he figured he'd let the other foal decide.

Daisy Chain shrank back as Quake approached. As the brown foal lowered his head, Bud's head seemed to withdraw like a turtle's. All he could muster at first was a pathetic whimper, eyes wide and watery.
"...Idunno" he muttered, words slurring through his pout. Quake grinnned, giving Bud mixed feelings. Croc-a-dies weren't foal-shaped...and had sharper teeth..well..Quake didn't have teeth at all...so he couldn't be a croc-a-die, right? Bud sniffled and straightened his posture slightly.
"I guess not.." he said, voice still soft and cracked from his fright. His cheeks burned, embarrassed from being so afraid, and his eyes stared at his hooves.

"Well then I'm not a croc-a-die! See!" He curled his lips and bared his... gums... once more. No teeth! How could he be a croc-a-die? Silly foal!
He kept his direct gaze away from the other foal, but stole glances every so often, so as not to embarrass him any further. There was no need for that! But just as he was going to suggest that they play something else, he heard something behind them. Crashing of some sort, rustling, too.
He quickly straightened up and his ears flicked back to listen. What was all of that commotion?

Daisy Chain perked up, reassured that his friend was not a scary thing. That was good. He nodded, thinking that to himself. Quake seemed so fearless! A good friend! Standing up, the little pink foal moved closer to his friend, then he heard the rustling of leaves. He jumped straight in the air, legs scrambling, and yelped. Quivering, he hid behind Quake.
"W-w-w-what's that?" he asked, hoping his friend would protect him. Quake was a little bigger than him, after all. And little Bud was not a fighter at all. He was a hider. That was what he did best. And so the little pink foal curled up behind his friend, peering out behind him to see what made that noise.

Quake turned his head to look over his shoulder to see what could possibly be making that much noise... and was met with an angry reptilian glare as it raised up out of the water followed by flaring nostrils and then a grinning maw full of gleaming off-white teeth. What was rising out of the stream behind them was none other than a crocodile, and after just a moment of astonished staring, Quake kicks into gear.
He turns back towards Daisy Chain, and roughly nudges the foal with his head, pushing him forward as he says, "That is a croc-a-die! Get up, get up, get up! Go, go go!" And his own feet begin to pick up speed as he pushes the other foal along, hoping to get him to run, not wanting to leave him for the nasty reptile, but not wanting to be the snack in between.
All that he knew is that tough as he was, that croc-a-die was at least 5 times his size, and that this was not a time for games, it was a time to run.

Daisy Chain's eyes nearly popped out of their sockets and he broke out in tears again. Tears of sheer terror. Croc-a-dies were much worse than mommy's stories! With the help of Quake's nudging, Bud rolled onto his hooves and took off. It wasn't long until the older foal was ahead of him and he dared to look back. The crocadile was still behind them, and although he was a decent distance away, Bud's heart pounded like the hooves of ten thousand kimeti. Not paying attention, he ran straight into a tree and was dazed for a moment. Dazed, he shook his head and looked back as the crocadile was getting closer. It still had to amble over roots and wade through reeds, but it hungered for tasty foals.
Whimpering again, he cried out "MOMMYYYYY" with as much vigor as a frightened foal could muster. Then he continued to run. He lost sight of Quake, but the foal was a good distance ahead of him last time he saw him. He had no doubt that he made it to safety. Turning the foal ran towards higher ground, and in the direction of his mother's flower patch.

Quake had taken off, and once the younger foal had begun to run too, he deemed him on his way to safety. Without looking back again, he spurred all of his speed and power into his legs and began sprinting back towards the hidden den of his father, Swamp Song. He knew where he lived at least, and he was much bigger than that crocodile back there, so at the very least if it continued to follow, it would meet it's match there, that is if it could even manage to find them in that super secret den of theirs.
