I'm -almost- done with Les Mis. It was a great book, but it does go on forever. After that I'm finishing The Hunt for the Eye of Ogin, which I got as an advance copy through librarything. I have piles and piles of books in my room that I still need to get to.

Les Mis is a work of genius, unforgettable.
i am rereading Dante's Purgatorio right now
but i need a more modern translation.
i liked Ciardi, but i have lost him in my clutter.

I read inferno a while ago and found it quite amusing. With all those older books I feel like I am missing out on half of it, because the parade of names and foreign terms go by without a single spark of recognition in my mind.

after reading alot of stuff you're more or less supposed to know, i picked up something for pure entertainment. rumo! fantasy, about a wolpertinger (half dog, half deer), who wields a talking sword. fun stuff. the author is very popular in germany. takes a while its 800 pages long.

Oh wow, that looks interesting. In WoW wolpertingers are half bunny half deer and show up during octoberfest.
I finally finished Les Mis and was bawing like a baby for the last few pages. I am -such- a sucker for melodrama.

wolpertinger are german legendary creatures. they're usually a mix of local enemies. mostly a mix of deer + something else.
people told each other tales of how they met them in the forrest to entertain other people when there was no tv to entertain people.

I don't buy new books either. They're either library loans or 50c bargains at a library sale or used book store. The words inside are just as good.

I get new books for Christmas, birthdays or if I go travelling. Over the years it's built up to a couple of shelves!

The way I do it, I read some huge book that's a real classic, or just very well written/important to know, but at the same time I read a lot of little books that are either not so good or easily forgotten or simply aim to be entertainment and nothing more, which is nothing wrong at all.
So at the same time I was reading a kid's fantasy book and still am going through Areas of my expertise which is a sort of fake almanac, and I'm reading Twilight during my breaks at work for the luls.
