Wet, cold, and forced from her nap: Merrill was not at all in any mood to be dealing with the ol' green male, not in the wake of the actually wanted return of Menelaus and Tempeste. Why did something of such importance have to be tainted, and so easily at that? She growled as sigh as she led Pekko away from the group, fighting against the wind, rain, and still ground-clinging snow. An empty den came into sight before long and, quite literally giving Pekko the cold shoulder during the short journey, Merrill carved a path forward into it. Once there, she shook herself of rain and snow and turned upon her green companion - if he could be called so.

"Well, truth be told, I was beginning to forget about you," she told him outright. "Gone off on some other adventure to get yourself killed no doubt. So tell me, why did you decide to come back?"

Pekko was dragged to safety by his purple dream-mate, not that he'd have argued at the transfer of place. The alpha was right ticked off and Pekko didn't understand why. He got to the den in silence and shook before seating himself directly before Meme. His eye's were at the ground and head clouded with the image of Menelaus he shuddered a bit and heaved a sigh before replying to Meme.

"I came back.." He said, eye's looking up, but head lowered. "I cam back, for you." He muttered, his eyes going back to the ground. He wasn't one to give up, but recently he'd been seeing nothing but a wicked hatred for his being around. He's lost his childhood spunk for life and was now reaching a more mature level in adulthood.

Oh spirits! "For me?" Merrill growled, clearly unimpressed with his reasoning. "Is that all? Not for love of your alphas, not out of a sense of duty to the pack that took you and your sister in, not out of anything other than some adolescent crush that did not have the decency to wane with time and separation?" She almost shook her head at the far too simplistic reasoning. The words were spilling out of her like a river at the sight of him and his unflattering crush - and she had thought for a few months that it was all behind her! "You haven't changed at all," she remarked dryly. "Why come back for me, hmm? I have never shown you any sort of affection, nor have I put it in your head to try and get reciprocation from me."

Pekko was taken aback, he'd opened his heart, shown her what he wanted, was honest instead of dodging bullets the way he always had. "Of course Ic ame back for my Alpha's, they are like parents to me!" He growled now, furious. He was not just a youngster anymore and understood how much he owed this pack, he was fairly upset and wanted nothing more then to dash out of this den with his head high as could be, trying to muster any dignity he had left, but Meme wouldn't agree with that.

"You, you show nothing, but I see it sometimes when you aren't mental that you mean well." He grumbles, his eye's had gone a fiery golden shade now. "You may not understand how I feel, probably because your heart is stone beyond that pup you adopted, but I understand how I feel and have grown up a bit since my damned puppy love crush." He growled to himself, how stupid could. "To stupid apparently." He mumbled answering his own thoughts. "You can be such a foul wolf to be around."

He sat, legs to weak to hold himself. He just wanted out though.

But his words had little effect on her at the moment, for Merrill was in quite a mood herself. "Of course I mean well, and I always have," she growled, hackles stiff. "I saved your life, did I not? As I have done for another as well. Never have I asked for anything in return save that you put that life to use; yet there you went and disappeared without warning." Her mind did not want to believe then and there that Pekko had simply "changed" since his disappearance despite the logical assesment that time usually changed others; she was beginning to know this very well. The beta sniffled, shaking herself dryer and taking a deep breath to calm herself.

"Menelaus hardly looked happy to see you, might I point out," Merrill added wrly. "But fine. Let's say that you have grown up. What are your plans now, green one?"

Harsh, she was harsh. He was sure he deserved it, being as rash as he had been his entire life. Between dive bombing the poor female on personal moments to waking her up during naps, just to gaze at her sparking eye's as she woke up. They didn't stay sparkling for long though as she thoroughly beat him form her view. He gazed at her now, his eye's sore with wanting to actually cry, he hadn't been one to be so masculine when it came down to tough emotional times and he was quite shaken up with the return and violent behavior of the alpha.

"I didn't mean to disappear!" His throat tried to rumble once more. He caught himself and swallowed quickly. "I just, I went away." He sighed, he didn't want to explain why he'd left, it made him feel such a fool. Though the muscles beneath his fur explained much.

"My plans? To move on from you, first of all. You're a sour beast, wretched almost. You have an undertone of sweet I know I'll only be able to enjoy from a distance and then some. I was immature, not ignorant. Now all that's left is the realization." He stared her square in the eye, hurt obvious form the glimmer his eye's gave. "From there I will work to become stronger, then e a defender and a hunter, a strong hunter if I can. Iw ant to help here."

He sat tall, head high to meet her's and eye's becoming a cold pair of stones. His heart ached at his harsh words towards her, but he had to trya nd do something to tear himself from her.

"Hmph . . ." Ah, how stubborn she was upon hearing those cold words, a mountain wolf through and through; be it frigid temperatures or frosty conversations, she was built to withstand both. Merrill kept his gaze with steely green eyes, her head raised almost imperiously. "Wiser words you haven't spoken, green one," she said after a pause, continuing in a tone that of mentor-to-student. "Perhaps you have changed after all. It is good to see able-bodied wolves willing to lend a paw here."

The beta paused again, surveying him for a moment. It was almost as if she was viewing a younger Pekko again, skin and hard muscle and drenched like she had had to pull him out of the lake once more. "You have seen much, obviously. Tell me, where did you go after you left?"

He wasn't much in the mood to talk to the purple female, his head was beginning to spin and even when she sends her version of compliments to him he couldn't smile or show any thankfulness.

"I haven't seen to much." He said softly, his head was bowed lightly, ears forward and tongue out, hanging to the side. He sighed softly and continued on. "I've never fought before then, not with other wolves, not with other hunters. I have escaped a bear, broke bones then.. fought and taken down my own prey. I survived. Survival of the fittest is a good quote to live by."

He remembered his Father quickly, a rainbow flash back. "You remember son, survival of the fittest.." Pekko stopped again, voice cutting off harshly and bouncing around the cave for a brief moment. He stared hard at the ground then aimed it up to meet his purple friend.

"I'm not as young in body or mind anymore. My body has gone through wear and tear, small breaks, minor tears and so on. I came back to be with the wolves I care about, the wolves I grew up with and teh wolf I'm most grateful to. If it weren't for you I'd not have seen the world, known love, or felt the strength of a family. Thank-you."

He repositioned himself, wishing for more physical strength to keep him up right.

She listened with as much attentiveness as she could, enough to understand him above the howling wind and needle-cold rains. "Hmm. That seems very much like you have seen a lot," she replied once Pekko was finished. "I can see the scars, yes, the exhaustion, the bags beneath your eyes and the hollowed holes they hold - and I can see the past fears they have beheld as well, eyes that have seen through difficult decisions I won't begin to pry into. Not tonight at least." In stoic manner she held, there also now was a sense of acceptance in her observation, however subtle.

The edges aruond Merrill's own eyes now did not hold sternly, but were now with a idfferent sort of authority: the businesslike look she wore when recieving and giving reports. "What of your sister? She disappeared around the same time that you did. Do you know what happened to her?"

The green males eye's stayed hard on hers, but widened. "Vittoria...?" He paused, breath taken right from his body, his thoughts quickened vigorously. "She's.. She's gone?" He asked Merrill. He wanted to cry more now, or get ery angry.

Where was his sister?
He hadn't evens topped to think that she might disappear by the time he got back. He thought she knew better then to go anywhere without him.

"I don't know where she is. I thought she would've stayed here where it's safe." He lowered his head and with it, his entire body fell too. So much had changed, some left, new wolves came. He suddenly felt very vulnerable.

Pekko's surprise was not very reassuring, but neither was she surprised at his shock. When he was an adolescent, he had taken many measures to hide and protect Vittoria from being detected, an even after being brought to the pack Pekko had been overprotective of his yellow sister. Seeing him come back without her then, Merrill deduced grimly, could only mean that they had not seen each other or were separated. He looked heartbroken . . . and then saw fit to collapse.

Ever practical, her first thought was that of course he didn't have the sense to at least sit down while answering her questions to conserve strength. Yet while Pekko's head remained down, Merrill's expression softened miniscully. "I am sure she is somewhere safe, else you would have sensed it; 'tis what I believe anyway. Worry first over your own health. For instance, have you any wounds serious enough to need tending to? Infections or sickness oncoming?" She did not sound as tender as the words were supposed to indicate, though a touch of concern did knit her brows. If either Pekko, Menelaus, Raiden, or Tempest brought unknowingly disease to the packlands . . .
PostPosted: Sun Feb 21, 2010 12:26 pm

Pekko shook his head slowly, only half listening. His wounds were sore, but were unseen through his visibly grown back patches of fur. He left his head down, worried still, even with Meme's attempt at comfort. "I'm fine." he said, tone cold and unsure. He had only his sister left from his true family, one piece of evidence that he did have a family at all.

He closed his eye's and huffed softly. Now he was alone, even with the pack around him, he was alone. "I will be fine." He corrected himself. his bones had healed awkwardly and he knew he'd feel that as the winter would come and go, but all that drifted away now.

"I'm sorry I left." He muttered, voice not strong, mind zoned and eye's still closed. He couldn't help imagining what might be happening to her at this moment. He sighed deeply, heaving the air out as if he didn't want it anymore. A canine, that had lost all cause.

"Apology accepted," she answered. Then, figuring he would hear better if she was closer to his ear, the beta leaned her head down closer, lowering her voice in proportion to the closer distance. "Just get some rest and recover. Again, focus on your health first before you plan on doing anything else. We can't have you or Menelaus or the pups collapsing." Merrill then lifted her head, yawned, and fought of the instinct to just curl up in here and sleep already.

One den was as good as another, her mind argued, but she would not have it. "Sleep well, green one, for your sake as well as ours," she told Pekko as she strode to the entrance, stopping to look voer her shoulder. "And . . . welcome home." With that, she trudged her way back through the storm towards her own den, knwoing innately that she was probably going to end up sleeping in tomorrow.

The conversation was over and she was gone. He couldn't even acknowledge her welcome. She was being very nice about all of it and in eth back of his mind somewhere he was happy as could be, Meme was treating him like a grown up. He felt teh tip of his lips want to part in a smile, but that small portion was overtaken with worry.

Moments later he curled up tightly, alone as could be, and fell into a fit filled sleep.
