>> ODST ID: 18939389-ES
NAME: Steiger, Eli M.
LOC. TAG: [STG-0113-CRPL]
ACTIVITY STATUS: GREEN
LOCATION: Deck 31-B
>>>TRACKING<<<<

He always hated the food they served on these hulks of scrap. Some how it made him think of just being home on Epsilon and eating that mush they served at boot. Christ, how the hell could people eat this?

Eli took the tray to the table closest to the back wall, honestly, he didn't feel like being social today. Or any other day for that matter. His squad was planet side doing Recon while he was stuck on weapon check in the armory. Thank god for 30 minute lunch breaks.

Setting the tray down on the table, he couldn't help but look out the window, the blackness and vast calling of space really captured his eye and carried his imagination. For the longest time when he was a kid, Eli always thought of being on ships and going on an adventure. Sometimes he thought he was a pirate and that he would captain his own ship one day. Looks like those dreams went down the hole with his future. The Covies were good at taking things. They had already taken his home, so all he had left were dreams, and they took them also.

With a heavy sigh and a quick glance at the mush, he began eating. Better do it quick. Sarge might yell...

Celest Bartel, a thin, small, and fragile looking ODST slid onto the bench of the table, a tray of lunch rattling as she halted to a stop across from Eli. She looked a bit frantic, but as she sat down she let out a sigh, closing her bright blue eyes, as if she had just finished a race. Her wavy dark hair was up in a ponytail, and bangs pinned to the side. She was small, but nearly everyone knew her as the cute energetic one who became a fiery b***h if you crossed her. She'd seen guys freeze under her cold stare. Served them right, though. And it wasn't like she wasn't forgiving. You could win her over with a nice favor, but she was selective about the people she hung around. It usually led her to be alone most of the time.

As she composed herself once more and took a drink from her glass, her sapphire eyes looked up from under the hood of her bangs, noticing a bit then that her entrance may have caused a few stares. She looked at Eli, then back down at her food. It would be best if she didn't say anything and just ignored him. Besides, she hardly knew anyones name, even though most remembered hers. She blamed it on her memory, but truth was, unless she cared who they were, she didn't remember their name.

Its been too long since he heard of the glassing of his planet. His home now lay under a sea of molten plasma. Everything he knew as a kid was gone. Hell, Eli hadn't talked to his parents in years. For all he knew, they were under that sea too...

Suddenly, he felt a new presence sit with him.

Eli looked up. He was aware another presence was sitting infront of him, but who it was, he didn't know. His eyes beheld on of the gal's from Baker Company. Eli had seen her once or twice, but never really made contact.

He examined the company he just recived. She looked... sorta pissed. Eli knew they wern't friends, but it never hurts to try and help someone out. He had some time to kill before sarge wanted him back.

"Looks like you got something to take off your chest..." Eli said, eating the mush in front of him.

"Ah...heh." Celest chuckled, sensing his unconcern, but appreciated his effort to fill the awkward silence. "New transfers." She said, shaking her head as if that were enough. "New guy won't leave me alone, follows me around....not in the stalking way but like a puppy. Finally was able to give him the slip." Cel sighed.

His work was less than satisfactory, as well as his wit. Useless and lazy. But he could shoot, and she had a feeling that was the only reason he was still here. She couldn't hate him, because that what be wrong. Still, Cel wished he didn't only ask her everytime he had a question. She wasn't even the best in her company.

Eli couldn't help but let out a small smile as he shoved the fork in his mouth. He found it funny that replacements always went after the girls in this place. No matter what, whenever a transfer or a replacement came in, they had the mentality of a sex deprived teenager.

"I know who you're talking about." He said, placing his fork down on the tray.
"You're talking about that Transfer from the 509th. Jenkins I think... right?"

He never met the guy, but he had seen him around sometimes. Walking the halls, doing errands... rookie stuff. It never phased Eli on who he was. Usually Eli kept to himself. The platform grapevine was quite green though. He had heard things about him. When that happens, they are never good.

"I heard some things about em. Why he was transfered, and why he's only a Private, despite being in the ODST corps for 6 years."

"Jenkins....? Y-yeah I think that's it." Cel nodded, having to think for a moment if that sounded familiar. She didn't care enough to remember his name, but that sounded right.

"Oh really? Hah, got some juicy stories, hm?" She leaned closer while at the same time spooning small spoonfuls of food into her mouth and licking the utensil clean. "Bet he did some weird s**t, he looks like the kind of b*****d who'd be just a ******** creep."

There was hardly ever anything to talk about, and Cel grabbed at the oppritunity of good gossip. Maybe it was one of her female habits, but she really wanted to vent about the guy who had been making her days bad ever since he arrived.

He chuckled. Before, he had never been able to talk to her before. Passing her in the hallway was one thing, but they had never struck up a conversation like this. It felt... welcoming to have someone to talk to. Eli took advantage of the conversation.

"Apparently, he got transfered and bumped down from First Sergeant cause he went nuts and shot a guy in his platoon. Not only that, when they tried to arrest em, he started screaming and swinging his knife around. He's nuts if you ask me."

Eli paused for a second. He realized he had never even said anything to the girl about his name or anything...

"By the way..." He set down his fork and extended his hand. "I'm Eli. I never caught your name."

Cel laughed. "That's completely ******** up!!" Her dark curls bounced as she shook her head in chuckles. "Now you've got be scared, I don't know if I could take a dumb brute like that alone, especially if he's crazy. I just can't believe he's still an ODST." She finished and took a swig of her drink.

"Celest. Or Cel. Or Corporal Bartel...whatever." She chuckled, and shook his hand. Thank god he didn't know her name, otherwise it would have been completely embarrassing for her to not know his.

Cel looked behind her and around, then back to Eli. "Just gotta be careful. I don't know what I'd do if her heard us." She said seriously, then a snort broke through her lips. She wasn't quite sure herself who would with between the two of them, her or Jenkins, but she seemed pretty optimistic in the fact that her wit would be what would save her in the end.

The smile still didn't escape his lips.

He nodded. "Yea, that would have been bad. But I think I could take em." And let out a small chuckle.

Quickly taking a drink, he set the cup down and rested his elbow on the table. Placing his head in his hand.

"So, where are you from? I never really find out where people are from. So I wanna start." Eli said.

It was true, Eli never did try and find out information about anyone. He stuck to himself and let the information come to him. Why try and find information on people who wouldn't talk to him? This was different, she came to him.

"Earth. One of the big cities in North America. I wouldn't expect you to know where it is." Cel shrugged and put another spoonful of food in her mouth and chewed. Raised there my whole life. I know a lot of the history of Earth, but I joined the UNSC because I wanted to see the rest of the galaxy. And so far I haven't been disappointed."

She looked up from her food and looked past him, out the giant windows in the mess hall that showed the stars and a few glowing blue moons.

"It's beautiful. Really something. It can't be compared to rolling green hills....its a different category....but still so special." She sighed, her lips coming to a sincere, charming smile.

"Big cities? Ah, I'm a country boy myself. Epsilon is where I'm from." He shook his head for a second. "But its gone now. So I really don't have a home..." His voice trailed off for a second, recalling the many times he had referenced what was his home. But he snapped out of it.

"I dont know why I joined up really." Eli gave a slight shrug.

The question always eluded his mind. Why did he join up? Why did he join the ODST's in particular? Revenge? Adventure? He had never asked himself this question before.

Suddenly, a violent shutter ripped through the mess hall. Eli's tray jolted off the table onto the seat next to him. He fell back onto the floor, the force of the jolt stunned him for a second. His eyes faded, lost focus, and slipped into an abyss of darkness...

"Woah!" Was her automatic response. As soon as she felt it, she gripped the table, but the whole room jerked and she felt her head whip-lash and hit the edge of the table as she fell off the edge of her seat. Shaking away the white flashing circles before her eyes, she looked up and saw the entire room was with red flashing lights. The siren went off.

"E-Eli?" Cel said over the noise and saw him on the floor two, eyes closed. People started yelling, plates were falling, feet were pounding out of the mess hall. Her arm reached out to shake him. "Hey come on, wrong time for a nap!" She said, reaching out to pull him up and over her shoulder before following everyone out of the mess hall.

Eli's eyes cracked open to see Cel grabbing him to get up. His head was spinning and his eyes couldn't focus, but with some strength he grabbed her out-stretched hand and pulled himself to a standing position. Honestly, what was going on eluded him. But his gut feeling knew what that shudder was. They were here.

Thinking quickly, Eli walked over to the wall where in front of him was a number pad. His fingers plotted out the passcode and a slot in the wall next to him released. Inside the compartment it was concealing, were 2 HE Standard side arms with 2 magazines each below them.

Eli unclipped the one pistol and tossed it over to Cel.

"Each MAC station has hide-away weapon depots all around the ship just for this occasion. Most people dont know about them because most of the people are transfers and never get the codes. Luckally, I'm in the armory and I have the codes. Plus I also know that there are 2 more depots with MA5B's and SMG's down the hall. For now this should do..."

He loaded a mag into the pistol and racked one into the chamber.

"This should do for now, lets hurry..."
