As the Healers moved to assist the injured and move them to the infirmary, J'ev shuffled the newly Impressed riders and their hatchlings towards the dining hall. The crowd followed behind them, wisely remaining out of the reach of some of the more violent dragons. Pipith and Cavumuth seemed to be given the widest berth. Any remaining candidates were welcome to join in the feasting, but should they wish to leave they could easily slip out unnoticed in the hustle and bustle. Nobody would miss them, as the kitchen staff were far too busy setting out food for a rather late breakfast, now turned Hatching Feast.
Food and drinks were readily available – no doubt many had not eaten yet due to being awoken at the crack of dawn – though the Weyrlingmaster kept a sharp eye on his newest group lest they try to sneak any of the whine. There would be no drinking for them for a long time.
Malkai and I'dan sat at the head table, watching the festivities and occasionally talking together in low voices. The Weyrleader greeted all who approached him with a bright smile, even if it did seem a little tight around the edges. The Weyrwoman, however, seemed unwilling to speak to anyone, and fixed those approaching the table with a stony look. Perhaps it was best to avoid her for a little while longer...

Cass felt a great weight leave her shoulders when she heard that the woman Cavumuth had tackled was not dead after all, having only fainted with only a few minor injuries. That meant no deaths! That was surely something to be celebrated! Any further thoughts she had on this, though, were rudely interrupted as her stomach made itself known, making her wince. She hadn't had anything to eat since the previous night, and while the adrenaline pumping through her system during the hatching had distracted her from that fact, it now made itself very prominent in her mind. "Ugh, I am so hungry." she muttered to herself.
'Hungry mine is Hungry!' Vespereth said with a giggle as she trotted nimbly along side her rider, basking in the attention they were getting both as a new weyrlings, and as a particularly adorable pair. 'You fed me, Mine, so now we must feed you!' the green chirped, making her rider laugh and place a loving hand on her dragonets neck as they walked side by side, a truly cheerful pair as they entered the dining area.

Tethis was one of the first to approach her Weyrleader, giving a courteous bow to Malkai first before giving a friendly slap on the shoulder to I'dan. The sight of her Wingleader's tight eyes made her own smile dimmer. It was not the triumph that a gold would have been, but at least the bronze who had hatched was well-composed. And a good size, a potential rival in time for the Weyrleader position in his Rider? Only time would tell.
She didn't speak, instead giving the others who were approaching the table a wide berth as she found a seat. The blonde found a seat in an inconspicuous (for her) part of the hall and procured some wine. Silence was the best option in public situations for a woman in her situation. However, if someone else chose to approach her, they would find a warm welcome. She tried to keep her attitude open and welcoming, smiling at those riders she knew as they entered the hall.
What a day this had been. Shards.

First of all, Y'ul was pretty miffed that she had to eat a meal while still wearing that ridiculous outfit. It was entirely too much for her, what with how much freedom it left between her legs among other things, ans she picked at the sleeves idly as she and her dragon were ushered along to be welcomed at the Hatching Feast. Y'ul could honestly say she'd never been to one before, her time last hatching spent in the infirmary watching over the injured and dying, not to mention she'd never been that interested in watching others sit around and toast themselves on their success.
But now it wasn't like she had a choice, she had to at least make somewhat of a brief appearance and maybe even name herself to the rest of the Weyr, mainly to the Weyrwoman and Weyrleader. She had to announce Green Erath as well, since they'd want to know, and then she would have to sit back and wait for the hatred and sneers to start pouring in. She'd Impressed a fighting dragon and was one of two females to do so, that dimglow Kitchen hand the second. Y'ul found that she was actually looking forward to watching Cass get slowly crushed and bitter over time, knowing good and well her own personality was too set for there to be worry.
You sound so sure of yourself. May I sleep while we're here?
Erath gave a mental yawn as the pair took a seat at the table set for the newly-Impressed riders, the Green settling down at Y'ul's feet where she closed her eyes. Neither of the girls were hungry, Y'ul too full on nerves still, but she never refused a meal. Slowly she took some water and forced it down her throat, not wanting to start a conversation. She was pretty sure a lot of things were to be asked of her, but she wasn't going to chatter off right away.

Sethal was confused. Really, seriously confused. He was exceptionally good at going with the flow, to the point that it could be somewhat problematic at times, but this was pushing it. He was used to getting into trouble because he'd become distracted, but getting a dragon because he'd gotten sidetracked? A small-for-his-size, incredibly pushy dragon, at that. It wasn't that he didn't like Pipith - already it was difficult to imagine being without him - but this was...he just couldn't wrap his head around it. His life had changed completely in the space of a moment, and now he had to change his name and learn all about dragons, not to mention live here in the Weyr.
It was all a little much for him, to say the least, and he hardly noticed the wide berth people were giving him and his dragon as they were shepherded into the dining hall. Until now, he'd kept to himself, far too dazed and too busy with Pipith to really pay attention to anything or anyone else.
Don't just stand there, Mine, Pipith insisted, snapping him out of his daze. If you are confused, then go and ask someone. It does not look very good when you stare at nothing with your mouth hanging open like that.
I... He did have a point. So Sethal shut his mouth and headed for the old man who seemed to be in charge of the new riders, with a hesitant "...Sir?"

He'd realized on the way to the Hatching Feast that, though he had fed his dragon, he himself seemed ravenous. The Hatching had taken far longer then the last, and his stomach rumbled nearly as loud as Tatleth spoke to him. Even as her mental words reached him, she also kept up a steady stream of chirps and crees, letting out a random bugle in surprise at something he didn't catch.
Upon reaching the food, he filled his plate to overflowing and ate as he walked, stuffing his face as politely as he could. Tatleth followed him, searching for her favorite clutchmates, bobbing and weaving around his legs but never getting in his way.
Seeing Tethis, whom he didn't know personally, but knew of rather, he walked over to her, wondering if Jada would be at the feast as well? Making sure it was clean, he held out a hand to Tethis.
"Hey, Tethis! Um, yeah, I've never introduced myself, but you're the first friendly face I saw. Name's Kylar," he said, his grin wide and warm. Tatleth nosed her way between his legs, looking up at Tethis with a grin of her own and an unending stream of happy chirps.
"Who is she, mine? I like her. Think she likes me? Can we go find Morgath? And Akerth. I wanna see my brothers! And Cavumuth, but maybe we should leave him alone. . . . "

J'ev looked up when Sethal approached him, making a mental note of the boy's clothing first and foremost. Ah, so this was the Stands Impression. One could never be sure if the dragonet was going to go charging off into the crowd, but the bronze had known what he was looking for. His chosen rider, however, didn't look so sure of himself. The bluerider's expression softened and he gave Sethal a pat on the shoulder.
"What can I do for ye, lad?" Judging by the colours and the choice of footwear he looked like a Runner. No doubt he'd had some message to deliver and had stopped by to check in on the Hatching. Probably hadn't expected a dragon to come looking for him. J'ev couldn't help but chuckle inwardly. Poor lad had his hands full already.

As one of the new Riders approached her, Tethis gave a smile to both he and his green. "A pleasure to meet you, K'lar?" she gently used his rider name, hesitant since she didn't know how the young man had planned to shorten it. "And hello to you as well." she greeted the chirping dragonet. "Aren't you lovely?"
She kicked out one of the seats near her from under the table, a quiet offer for him to sit nearby if he wished. His plate was full, but she didn't notice a cup.
Klah it would be for him, it would be a long day for the young man and His. She poured him a cup of it, near to brimming, and placed it in front of him. "Eat up. This is just your first day." The real work would start tomorrow, as the dragonet started to get itchy, and scratchy, and needed oil.

That was a good question, to be honest. Sethal, for his part, didn't actually have one in mind - well, okay, he had a lot of question running through his mind, but he didn't know where to start! He'd never been so lost in his life, and it was beyond disconcerting. He wasn't ordinarily the uncertain type...indecisive yes, uncertain no.
Ask him something already, Mine, Pipith prodded when he hesitated a little too long.
"Well, uh..." Oh, shards! "What happens now?" So it was sort of a stupid question, but it was better than nothing. Hopefully the man was as nice as he seemed and wouldn't laugh at him.

Tofir had bathed before going to the hatching feast. He didn't have a dragon to tend to, and so he could afford to take the time to scrub himself completely clean before going to eat. He had seen that the woman was all right, and he felt pretty much obligated to apologize to Yulu for being sharp with her. Also, he did want to congratulate her for Impressing her green. Even if it wasn't the dragon she'd wanted.
So, clean and scrubbed and wearing clean clothing Tofir made his way to the dining cavern. In spite of the crowd, Yulu was easy to find. She was the one scowling sullenly. He laughed, completely unsurprised, and made his way over to her. As he got closer he slowed his pace, unsure whether he should join her at the table or hover. He disliked the idea of hovering, but he also disliked the idea of forcing people to make room for him. He'd just bathed after all, and none of them had.
He loomed, using his trademarked loom, and waited to be noticed.

Canoake had managed to talk her way out of serving those new and old riders. That was no surprise. She had managed to sneak away in the hour between the end of the Hatching and the true start of the Feast to change into her finery. A russet brown headband with little gold stitching, her favorite skirts, a white shirt that was loose in the sleeves and tight at the wrists and of course, her calf boots.
Personally, she cared not too much for the other dragons but was interested in the rather large bronze that had hatched. The one who had everyone fooled. He would be one to keep an eye on as he grew. Canoake wanted to assess the man who had gained a bronze.
Light footed, she refused to cave into any dark thoughts or emotions she might have. After all, where would it get her. Grabbing a plate with fresh bread and roasted beef for the grand occasion, it was time to start a new plan.

He blushed, but only faintly, in embarrassment at already forgetting one of the key changes of becoming a rider: his name. "Ah, yeah. That'll take a bit of getting used to," he said with a laugh, taking the offered seat and inhaling the klah. "My thanks! I've heard many things about life with dragons. I'm prepared for the road ahead," and with that, he scratched the eyeridge Tatleth turned to him, his gaze filled with love and warmth for his lifemate. Her eyes whirled a content blue, and she nearly purred, but then she chirruped at Tethis again.
"Mine, I really do like her. She's nice. Gives you nice things that make your tummy happy. Happy tummy means happy Mine!"And then she head butted him in said stomach, nearly making him choke.
"Can we go find Skananth?!"she all but bellowed in her mind voice, making him wince.

It wasn't Y'ul who noticed the looming behind her, an appetite suddenly having developed the moment she started to nibble on a few things here and there, instead the initial notice coming from the Green who had appeared to be asleep at her legs. Erath was far from asleep, she was merely resting on the cool ground, and she raised her head in response to his presence.
There is someone here. He's looking at you oddly, do you know him?
Her voice was quiet as her eyes turned from blue to a more curious blue-green, and Y'ul slowly turned over her shoulder to get an idea of what her Green was referring to. She had her mouth full with a bite of food, a side of her cheeks puffed out with a bit still on her lips, and she frowned as she tried to see who wanted her now that she'd stuffed her face.
Of course, it had to be Tofir. p***k, Y'ul still hadn't quite forgiven him for snapping at her on the Sands.
He is from before, on the Sands.
"Tofir."

Jadamirei was with the servers. Permission had been granted for her to change out of her Candidate's robe before reporting for duty. She had added some color to her cheeks and re-done her hair. Out of the immaculate candidate's robes, she was dressed in the closest thing to a party dress she had. The dress was a solid blue, well-cut, tailored to her. Not anything particularly fine, but it had been a gift from her mother, and was frankly the nicest thing she owned. She saw her friend Tethis speaking with one of the new Riders, saw Yulu and her green sitting at the Weyrlings table. Malkai's face was stony and cold. Blue eyes searched for Folen, and when they didn't see him yet, sought out the Weyrsinger to say hello. She was in charge of passing around some drinks. No alcohol, but she got to lug around a pitcher of water. That worked for her. She wouldn't have much time to chatter for a mark or so, but that was fine; she'd have a chance to eat before it was all over! Jadamirei headed for Yulu first, intending to say hello to the girl she'd met once before and congratulate her.

Shiver had rejoined Tofir after the hatching, leaving Song and the strange man gladly. He liked Song, but strangers made him nervous. He'd practically shaken off half his body weight. He was hungry. Was there any cooked meat to be had? He whistled appealingly at Tofir. Could he ask the Yulu friend for some food.
Tofir shrugged and he interpreted that as a yes. Shiv began to fly to Yulu, willing to land on her, even, when he saw the enormous green with her and let out a shrill, terrified whistle and returned to Tofir's shoulder at great speed. Tofir raised his left eyebrow at the blue firelizard and looked back at Yulu.
"Hey. Can I sit?" With a dragon in the way, that wasn't quite a guarantee. "I don't think I caught your dragon's name, by the way."
