Winter days weren't very helpful. They especially weren't helpful when, even though your family did not live far from your school (Some girls, though not many, liked the fact that Smooth Moves offered out-of-store ordering, and if you weren't too uppity to walk, it wasn't that bad a distance), they HAD to use a motor vehicle to get Esen and her belongings to school, in a snowstorm, no less. Granted, Esen would admit that she wasn't the best protector of Earth, but car exhaust had ruined the air quality of the planet, and god forbid, all humans are residents of it!
After telling her father 'Safe trips on the road this year' and her mother 'I'll answer your calls, so don't worry about me horribly' in slightly cheery tones, one of the people there to meet Esen led the young student to her room. However, the other was being a bit of a distracted fangirl to Esen's father in regards to his book - 'Wait, he released a book?!' Esen thought - but the neon-haired girl ignored it, as well as the legacy of Crystal Academy that her guide spoke about as they went up two flights of stairs.
"And here is your room," The guide said, opening a door to reveal a darkened area. It seemed quite eerie until a light was flicked on and revealed a room with quite a bit of space. Closed-curtained windows, two beds, two nightstands, two desks with chairs, two small dressers, and two doors on one side of the room - one door looked a bit different from the other to distinguish a closet and a bathroom. Everything came in pairs, hm.
"...oh, I forgot some things," the guide spoke suddenly. "First of all, you might want to be aware about our dress code - you can wear your non-earlobe earrings out of uniform, but not during school hours."
"Alright, thank you," Esen spoke, without much showing of actual thanks.
"And the other thing, Miss Saylor. Your roommate, Miss Melody Klein, will be here soon. When she does, we'll stop by and knock - in the meantime, I'll leave you to getting acquainted with the room."
"Thanks, then." Esen gave a weak wave as the guide left. A prompt flop on the bed when the door shut showed a bit of irritation, though. She didn't really know how roommate situations worked, and considering the nature of the school, there was a good chance it was a haughty rich kid who could care less about anything but their own interests - especially because she did bring along some expensive items to school with her.
Esen opened up one of her boxes, examining the contents and hoping this Melody she would meet wasn't a brat, especially in the fashion department, since the clothing she worn wasn't very typical of rich people - plain blue jeans, a tee-shirt with the phrase 'Black Holes: Where God is dividing by Zero' (to be honest, the not-really-religious Esen thought that the joke would be lost on... almost everyone, really, but she liked it), and generic white snow boots, now kicked off to gray socks, weren't made to look like a million bucks at practicality's expense.

Miss Melody Klein was a woman of high standing, if her mother had a say about it anyway, and she thought fashion to be her thing though she recognized that not everyone approved of her style. Equally so she didn't necessarily approve of other's either, so in the end it all equaled out. The principle had had something to say about her style of dress and thus she wasn't quite there to greet the person who would be her roommate when they stopped by. Never mind that she had yet to fully move in, that would happen during the weekend as her mother had suddenly been swamped with a large case and refused to let her father do it in her absence.
But it hadn't stopped her from returning to school, finally, and with the meeting with the principle done she was off to see if her roommate had shown up. Along with it came the hope that she and her roomie would get along well enough to enjoy spending time together in the room, even if they didn't end up as friends. Reaching the door to her room, Melody knocked softly then opened the door.
Okay, so she should have waited for the guide like she'd been told but honestly she was bored and excited all at once. Hopefully they'd forgive her for going on, right? She waved her hand dismissively at her own thoughts then moved to enter the room curiously.
"Hello?"

There was a definite knock. Esen's thoughts of 'I hope to God this girl isn't the sort who flaunts their wealth' were cut off, but she still stared down in an open box labeled 'FRAGILE' when she heard one pair of footsteps open the door and say 'hello.' Wait. Someone came in and they said hello. In a few seconds, Esen moved her head so she could see the person, making her appearance apparent to the other girl, and vice versa.
By appearances, the girl with a tan complexion in front of her did look a bit strange. Her hair was in blonde pigtails and affixed with flowers, and the makeup looked out of place, but after some thought, Esen figured she'd give her a chance. After all, the olive-eyed sophomore was a person unorthodox in her ways of wearing makeup as well. Not many worn neon green lipstick. The jewelry added to their eccentric-seeming style, but it could be worse. Just to be sure, however, Esen decided to ask a question first. She seemed to be around Esen's age, so this could be the person.
"Hello, Miss."
Esen held a bit of etiquette in her manner of speaking; though she wasn't much for excessive formalities, she wasn't sure of this girl's status.
"Are you Melody Klein?"
Esen's expression stayed in neutral. Granted, because of her glasses, it wouldn't be as apparent if it did change, but it wasn't much of a cheery welcome. Of course, if this was the person she was told to be rooming with, Esen would introduce herself a bit. And then figure out how to divide the room, if need be (well, there was one other door on the wall of the room that she didn't see at first glance, but still, one door did not have a twin).

Brown eyes blinked at the brightly colored girl, well brightly colored hair anyway, and a smile formed as she shut the door behind her. "That would be me, though please no formalities. I'm not fond of them at all." And to that she made a face though it vanished as quickly as it came.
Stepping into the room, the ganguro girl held out a hand in greeting. "You must be Miss Saylor-" which is all she knew of the girl, last name only. "It's a pleasure to meet you."
Melody's voice was soft and gentle, never did her voice raise. Which was likely a bit of a contrast to how wild her accessories and make-up were. Though she did have to admit that she was glad her hair wasn't so bright a color as Esen's, as she'd likely blind herself in the morning with it. But it was a lovely color on the other girl, for sure (and matched her lipstick nicely).

"Hello, then, Melody." Esen got up off the bed she sat on, walking over to her for a handshake. "I dislike formalities myself when they are not warranted, but being in a school of status, I was unsure of what to expect, seeing as, even though my family fares well financially, they're not fitting of the stereotype." Esen's facial expression looked to be stuck in apathetic, showing no joy or hatred while looking slightly up at Melody, who was a good bit taller than she-who-just-turned-seventeen.
After that, she walked to a window to open up its curtains, to reveal that, rather than white clouds with snow, the sun shone in like it didn't notice who came by earlier. Esen squeezed her eyes shut in response, turning away from the window after her train of thought finished finding a way of 'how do I introduce myself?'
Opening her eyes, the green-haired girl spoke. "My name is Esen Quinn Saylor." There was a quickness when Esen spoke again: "I don't usually tell people my first name right off the bat, but circumstances say you'd find out anyway. If it's not a teacher or someone of that stature asking about me, my name is Quinn - though if you ever meet someone named Fallon, she knew my first name anyway. Not sure why... but you get the idea, right?" Esen took a few bobby pins out of her hair, letting one pointed bun fall to the mass, then the other.
Fishing in her jeans pocket for hairties, she ended with "It's a personal reason." However, there wasn't much to Melody but... well, Melody. Esen had about four or five boxes brought up with her, but Melody had nothing for moving in. Esen's tone was in a questioning surprise.
"Where's your belongings? And wasn't there supposed to be a guide?"

"Esen is a really pretty name," Melody replied. "But if you prefer Quinn, then that's what I shall call you~"
The curiosity of this girl named Fallon, and how she knew Esen's first name, hooked her almost immediately but it was dashed away quickly with the question about Melody's belongings. Or lack there of. She gave a bit of a laugh, soft and sweet as her voice was. Melody was gentle in all that she did, so that was something Esen was probably going to have to get used to. If she wasn't used to it already.
Along with the laugh came an embarrassed look and a hand moving up to rub at the back of her head as well. "Y-yea, about that... See, I'd just come from the principle's office - on account of my accessories - and I was supposed to wait for the guide but..." Well, she'd been excited to see who her roommate was. Why wait when she knew the way?
"Ah, but about my things... I won't be moving in until my mom can get the chance to help me move. She's so weird about things like that, I'm her baby so she wants to spoil me and such, and wont' let my dad move me in instead. So it'll be about a day or so until I actually move into the room."
The embarrassment had faded by this point and she was smiling once again. "So please, feel free to take what space you want and I'll fill in the rest once I'm moved in!"

"Esen is okay if we're in private." By now, Esen finally tied back her hair in a haphazard ponytail mess. It went down to her waist, which you could only tell was her waist because of the shirt's length. Melody wasn't treated to her roomie's scarred stomach, however, because the shirt length covered the waistband of her jeans. Hopefully the lighter-complexioned girl wouldn't end up doing so for a while.
"Oh." Melody looked a little embarrassed, but Esen's voice went downhill a bit. "At least you get to see your father on a regular basis. If you've seen my father - nothing like me, but mother - I think the only things I didn't inherit from her are the eyes or height. Anyway, father's only here part of the year, and he'll be back on business soon. Mother runs a store down the road, so if I wanted, I could stop by, but you know."
Esen did, however, pick up what looked to be quite a big box - in reality, the contents weren't as much heavy as they were voluminous. There was a full-sized, plain black comforter and various-sized dark-colored pillows contained in a box labeled NOOK.
Placing it on the bed closer to the door she sat at before, Esen peeled off a piece of tape keeping the box shut while asking Melody: "If I put this-" The folded-up comforter was lifted out. "-on the floor nearby the walls, do you mind helping me make a sort of... I guess a lounge-area sort of structure with the contents of this box?"
None of the pillows seemed very remarkable, besides four sham-covered pillows. Two were dark-purple tye-dyed, and the other two, dark-blue tye-dyed, looking like they got wear and tear from age. No stains - even Esen was a big person with keeping things clean - but worn nonetheless.

"I'm sorry you don't get to see your father," she replied softly, moving to follow after her roommate. "My dad works from home, he's a journalist. Mom spends long days at her office, she's a lawyer, but she often brings home work..." Ah, that seemed unfair to bring up and she looked a little uncomfortable about it. Maybe she shouldn't have brought it up.
The new question seemed to snap her out of her momentary funk and she stepped closer before nodding. "Sure, sounds like it could be a good place to study!" And she had more pillows she could bring from home too, if Esen wanted. She made sure to let her green-haired companion know this.

"It's okay, Melody." Esen's tone went back to generic. "I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for him, or the scholarship programs they have here. We could probably pay straight if we had to, but that would cut it pretty close." Pretty close, for their family, meant pretty risky. Rica had a business to run, usually bringing work upstairs (that was home!) practically every day, and entrepreneurship always had a bit of risk involved as it was.
Esen was looking at the wall opposite where the heads of the beds were, deciding to lay the comforter down on the ground, lengthwise, touching that wall - no corner, but they could probably improvise if needed. "Thanks." Esen was thanking Melody for two things; the obvious 'sure, I'll help' response, and inwardly, not saying 'no, I won't.' Melody actually broke Esen's (rather harsh) expectations of what kinds of people Crystal students were. "I had a futon at home that I used simply for relaxing or having a decent place to work at, but it's a bit big to carry here. Even if I did ask, I don't think my mother would be okay with my doing that anyway." Mr. Reis and Ms. F. Saylor were sensible, the reason for staying as live-ins, and their daughter did not fall that far from their apple tree.
Esen pulled out a seemingly boring-looking periwinkle square pillow when she got back to the box. It seemed plain. It was plain. "The tye-dye pillows go last," the builder spoke as an afterthought.

"I'm glad this school has scholarship programs, so that students who don't come from rich families can attend. It makes the school much more diverse. It's just a shame that, from what I've heard, most of the girls here aren't pleasant at all."
Setting the pillows down, she wrinkled her nose at the thought. Ugh, snobby stuck up girls weren't her cup of tea. Thankfully Esen didn't seem to be that type of person. Money may make a snob, but one didn't have to have money to be a snob.
"If you want, I could see about getting a futon for the room?" And she wasn't trying to shove the fact her family had money and Esen's didn't, really. It was just an idea she thought she'd throw out there.

"I can agree there," Esen replied after some thought, fluffing the pillow. "On both points. My mother and father, as do I, care about others in need. They both worked for their wealth - I'm here to get the knowledge to do the same." Dropping the pillow on the ever-growing pile, she gave a sigh in response to Melody's question. "It's not like we couldn't bring a futon in, Melody. I simply think the transporting a waste of time, money, and manpower which would be better spent toward, say, filling a food bank, or rebuilding a school." Inwardly, Esen cracked a smile, despite her face staying stuck in neutral. It was nice of Melody to offer... maybe it was a veil? But she was helping with the pillow seat... oh, right. The pillows.
Walking back to the box, only four pillows - the colored tye-dye sham-covered ones - were left. Taking one dark purple pillow and one navy pillow, Esen bent down to place them in the pile. "Two more left, one each purple and blue," she spoke out loud. "Want me to finish it, or would you like to?"

"I used to think I wanted to be a famous cellist, but now I'm not a hundred percent on that one. I'm hoping I'll know for sure once I finish high school. But I wish you luck on your endeavor."
A pleasant smile followed her words, watching as the green haired girl set down more pillows. Honestly her parents had worked for their own wealth as well, though Gran had helped out when times were tough... Her own mother wanted her to settle down with some one rich but Melody hated that idea, wanting to make her own money and life. Seemed maybe she and Esen had a few thoughts in common all ready.
At the new question, the girl shook her head with a smile. "You can get them if you want." She was, admittedly, having fun watching her roommate work.

Off the floor, to the box, pick up and fluff the navy pillow. "If you're sure." Back to the structure, drop the pillow into its proper place. "Fame is hard to come by, so it's good to have a back-up plan." Ah, yes... her mother knew that so well.
While Esen repeated the above process with the purple pillow, she continued - "You don't know what you have until it's gone. Years pass by, you adapt to your environment - yet, when you gain one thing, you lose another..." The last pillow was in place, and the green-haired teen felt sensations in her stomach screaming for food, interrupting her subliminal-seeming thought process. Her face curled up into a frown when she stood up. She hadn't eaten all day, she didn't want to risk the cafeterias just yet (preferably at all, but the first day wasn't a good time by any means), and that machine she spent some good money on was still in its packaging. What would she make without any ingredients, anyhow?
Walking over to where her white snow boots sat, Esen sat on the nearby bed to put them on. "Hopefully the buses are still running right now, I have to get some groceries," she spoke hurriedly. Her boots were on, and she grabbed the nearby jacket she that she carried in. "...okay, so I still have some money... I have to go for now. Before you leave, can you place the pillow on the bed you want on the other end of it or something, to tell me which side you'd like? Thanks-" Esen had soon left the room. A few steps after, she stopped and backed up, poking her head in the still-open door. "By the way, it was good to meet you, Melody. I'll see you when you move in, I'm sure." The steps started again and faded out.

She chuckled softly, "My mother's back up plan is me marrying some one rich." A face was made after, as Melody didn't really enjoy the thought of that back up plan. Though being a mother was tempting...
As Esen moved to stand, the blonde was pulled from her thoughts like a cat catching movement and she watched. Esen had to go shopping, hm? That was fine, honestly, she needed to head home herself before her mother had a conniption fit. At the question asked of her, the tan girl nodded.
"Yea sure~" Smiling, she watched the girl leave then turned to examine the room in depth. Only to be sidetracked as her green haired roommate poked her head back in to say one more thing. Turning to look at her, hands behind her back, she smiled and nodded. "It was a pleasure to meet you as well, Esen~ I hope we'll have a lot of fun this year~"
And then her companion was gone, leaving her to once again ponder the room and which bed she wanted. Sighing, she decided to put the pillow in the middle of the room with a note attached to it. 'Sorry I couldn't make up my mind! Hope you don't mind that I left the choice to you~ I'm not picky, promise~'
Signing her name, she nodded and turned to leave. She'd apologize properly the next time she saw Esen.
