Selena walked slowly through the under-brush of the sparse forest. She was just traveling along the edge of the wood all day. Her dizziness from the morning had finally passed, but she had still not been able to keep anything to stay in her stomach. She had finally given up on eating. Her dark ears were pressed flat against her head and she slowly made her way across the tall grass and around the younger trees. Her swollen belly gently moving with her. Her eyes were clouded as she looked onto her path, although she didn't even see it. Her head was too filled with thoughts of her rounded midsection. She was pregnant. It was quite obvious to anyone that saw her. Her naturally slim form was replaced by a fat belly that meant foals. She was not sure how many. All she knew was that she was quite far along with her pregnancy, that they were Suichii's children, and that she was scared completely out of her own skin. She was expecting, expecting children. Which meant she was a mother. A mother. Should she not be happy? Thrilled? Glowing? No, instead she looked like a mess, her face was pale, mouth dry, and mind completely screwed with thoughts of confusion and fear. "How am I going to do this?" She whispered to herself, knowing no one would hear her. "Sui still does not know. What is he going to do when I tell him? When he sees?" Her eyes became worried. Suichii was the only horse he had ever learned to love. He made her feel like she had value, like someone was looking forward to seeing her. He was what made her glow. But this, this belly, these foals. Would they ruin everything? Would he leave her and would she be alone with his children? "How would I raise them? What will they think of me?" She had murdered before. That was her past, one of blood and hardships. But now she was a mother. She knew nothing other than what she was, she did not know how to be a mother. "I never even had a mother." A tear ran down her face and she stopped and stood still in the shadows of the forest.

Grace sighed as she flicked her tail, her usually cheerful disposition was toned down as she trotted to the edge of the forest; the forest might be the home she would never abandon, but today, she wanted a change of surroundings. Although she had always wanted a family of her own - especially after seeing how blessed her friend Esta was after starting hers - Grace had never thought that it would come this quickly.
When she found out that she was pregnant with Deusdedit's children, she didn't know how to react. Although the kind stallion confessed that he loved Grace the way she loved him and proposed a lifemate to which she accepted, they had only been together only for a few months... Weren't things proceeding way too quickly? It wasn't even a year yet! What happened to the dating, the courtship? The things she had always fantasized about?
Heaving another sigh, she broke through a small bush and ended up at the edge of the forest. Her belly had swelled up, and it was quite obvious that the little usdia wasn't used to carrying around the extra weight. As she looked around, she noticed another mare in the distance... A mare that was also pregnant! Perhaps she could answer all her questions?
However, as Grace made her way slowly to the dark colored mare, she soon realized that this mare was probably even more confused than she was; something tugged at her heart and the usdia froze. Putting on her friendliest smile, she approached the other, her voice soft as she greeted her, "Hello there... Why are you crying...?"

Selena's ears suddenly motioned towards the small Usdia that approached her. She was not speaking English, but rather Kawani, a language that Selena was taught by Anope. When Sel had arrived to these lands, she was very young and weak and did not know English or any other language. Anope taught her kawani, he first language and then gradually English. Though in team Rocket she learned and created endless amounts of codes and signals. She turned to look down at the small mare who had spoken to her. And her blue eyes widened when she saw this young female was also expecting. Swollen belly and all.
"I errm...I.." SHe had not spoken the language for many years, but she was still fluent. "Something just flew into my eye is all." She lied. But just as she did, her young offspring sensed it and began to kick. Sel took a step back from the sudden assault and bit her lip. It HURT! that was for sure. How did other mares do this?

She was not the best 'lie detector' ever; in fact, she was well aware of how naive she could be... Or rather, that was what others told her. However, she could tell that the other mare was obviously lying. She saw her cry - those tears were not shed because of something in her eye! When she suddenly took a few steps back, however, Grace frowned, taking another step forward towards the larger female, "Are- Are you okay? Did the baby just kick you by any chance?" She smiled, understanding how it was like to be kicked; sometimes, it was the most amazing feeling ever, but sometimes, it hurt just a tad.
"Hello, I'm Grace," She smiled again, hoping that she did not appear too eager to be friends, "What's your name?"

Selena knew her lie was a pitiful one. But she was just too out of sorts to really do any better. And seeing the small mare's eyes looking at her, Sel knew that she had realized it had been a lie. One more kick came, the small, pointy hooves of her foals dug into her insides. Selena cringed. The pain was there from the foals moving about restlessly inside her. But somehow, deep in her, she felt a connection. As if they were trying to lead her towards something. She looked down at the small, redish mare who was in the same condition as her. Maybe...she could get advice from her? "Yes," she admitted sheepishly. "Quite hard actually. It caught me by suprise and i am stil very....new and uneasy about all this." Her eyes slowly moved down and gazed at her bloated midsection. They would be here soon enough.
"Selena." She said hastily, feeling horrid that she had forgotten her manners, she bowed her head just as another kick came, this time close to her spine. A shiver ran down her. "Ow..."

"I know what you mean... When I realized I was going to be a mother... Well, it was more confusion than joy." Grace forced a smile; she was embarrassed to admit it, but despite all her daydreams about starting a family someday, the news of her pregnancy was so sudden that she just felt so lost. Glancing up at the dark colored mare, she added with a sigh, "Its my first time, so I'm just so... Lost. I've never felt like this before!"
She was about to sigh again, but suddenly remembered that she had approached this mare to help her feel better, not make her feel worse. Giving a genuine smile, she echoed, "Selena. That's a beautiful name!" Her eyes widened at the 'ow' before she quickly continued, "Oh! Are you alright? Looks like you're carrying some strong ones!" She teased with a small smile, hoping to break the ice.

"Really? Confused and lost..." Was she not the only one who felt that way? Could she possibly ask this mare for advice? She pondered for awhile what she should ask. But the small mare's next comment made her a bit surprised. "Strong ones?" She slowly looked down to her swollen belly. Just as her eyes set on it, she felt some soft movement. Not a kick or a shuffle. Just a turn, like a hug almost. Selena was filled with awe suddenly. Strong foals. Strong like Suichii and herself. They were her children, and she had to protect them, love them, teach them of the world. She finally began to understand just what pregnancy was....it was not just a physical thing or a burden. It was the kiss of an angle. The birth of life. She finally understood. Another tear softly ran down her cheek. But it was not a tear of sadness.

"Really... Lets just say I never really had a mother-figure in my life before so motherhood is a totally new concept to me!" She forced a laugh, looking away before giving a smile, "But a friend of mine who recently had three foals said that although they gave her a lot of trouble, the joy and pride she felt will never fail to erase whatever trouble they brought... I'm starting to understand that. I'm sure my mate will too."
She smiled again as she turned her head, looking at her swollen belly; she was carrying foals that were fathered by Deus... They were going to start a family of their own; how long had she waited for this day? Perhaps she should be more joyful than confused. He'll be there for her after all! They'll raise their children together and maybe even watch their children have children!
When she looked up and saw the dark-colored mare crying, her eyes widened in surprise. Upon closer inspection, however, Grace realized that the other was not upset. Brightening up, she nuzzled Selena gently on her shoulder, "It'll be fine."

Selena was once again filled with surprise. She looked at the small mare and blinked once or twice to clear her eyes of tears. "No mother? Really?" She couldn't help but smile. This young mare was giving her so much hope and help. It felt like a dream. Usually, feeling this desperate and dependent on someone repulsed Selena and she tried to avoid it at all costs. But with these foals, she felt so delicate and helpless. "My mother, my entire family in fact, were killed soon after I came out of my birth basket. I never knew them or anything about them. And So i really have no idea how to be a good parent...how to be a mother." She smiled nervously. She rarely admitted the death of her family.

"Oh... I'm sorry about your loss..." Grace offered the other mare a small, encouraging smile before continuing, "My own parents abandoned me when I was still in my basket; I heard them leave but at that time, I thought they would return like they always did... Luckily it was spring so I had plenty to eat when I finally left my basket, but its a miracle that I even survived!"
She brightened up, surprised at how well she was getting along with Selena; both mother-less mothers-to-be, and both finding some form of comfort in each other. Grace paused for a moment before talking again, excitement lacing her voice, "I think we should give our children what we never had so that when they're parents, they won't be quite as lost... And then one day, maybe we could meet here with our foals and share what we've learned about being a mother."
She giggled, beaming at Selena, "Who knows? Next time we meet, motherhood might not be as scary and confusing as now. Does the father of your children know?"

The thought made Selena smile, her tears drying. She nodded, "I would like that." She laughed softly, thinking of the old proverb; A friend in need is a friend indeed. "He has yet to know." She admitted, thinking of Suichii. She knew deep down he would accept all this. He would accept them, she thought looking at her swollen belly. "I hope to tell him soon though. And your mate?"

"I told him a while ago," She nodded with a smile, "To be honest, I think he realized it before that though... Its hard to keep something growing so steadily hidden from view for long!" She chuckled at her own joke, "He proposed for us to be mates... We were staying together as friends before this and I actually ran away after we did- Well, you know." She blushed, looking away, clearly embarrassed.
Changing the topic, Grace continued, "Maybe its time for us to head home soon then... And I'm sure your mate will be delighted! He's going to be a father after all, and new life is always exciting."

Selena nodded slowly, her face molded into a soft and distant smile. She remembered what she and Suichii had also done it for the first time. She had been so confused but so pleased and excited at the same time. She loved him like she loved no other, and she knew he felt the same. "I need to tell him, you are right." She beamed to her new friend. "Thank you so much for everything Grace. I have been able to find comfort in you like in no other." She bowed her head and nipped at Grace's mane gently, smiling.

"I feel more at ease now too, after talking with you," Grace returned the smile, giggling when Selena nipped her mane, "Maybe its because we're both first time mothers who grew up not knowing a mother's duties, so we can understand each other better in that aspect." She chuckled, "But I'm glad to have met you!"
She paused to look at the sky and quickly realizing that it was getting dark; if she doesn't go home soon, Deus might get worried about her... Its kind of heartwarming, knowing that someone might get worried about you. She turned her attention back to Selena, "I'm afraid I have to head back now though... But I had a good talk with you! I'm sure we'll meet again." She nodded and nuzzled Selena gently on her leg before turning and trotting away in the direction she had came from. This time, her heart was lighter and her mind was clearer than before.

Selena could not help but beam. "Thank you again. I will make sure we repeat this encounter." Looking up at the darkening sky, she also knew she had to be on her way. Suichii needed to be informed of what was coming and of her condition. Having met Grace had caused much change in Sel. She could feel her lightened heart and mind. Worry felt like an old memory. She turned as well and walked off, still smiling about her new friend.
