Small hooves pounded the ground as the frightened klipspringer ran for his life. A large lion was close on his tail. Yakul could feel the hot breath that escaped the threatening jaws of the beast, and his heart pounded in his ears. He ran faster, faster, but the lion matched his pace easily. He was beginning to think this was the end, this horrible creature would consume him without a second thought, and his life would snuffed out.

Suddenly, Yakul saw his salvation. He zigzagged around a large boulder. Unlike the lion, Yakul knew this area very well. As he disappeared behind the boulder, the lion followed after him, but stopped short, because the little klipspringer had vanished.

In reality Yakul had shoved himself beneath the boulder, where there was a hold just big enough for him to fit his body. Some creature from ages past had made this area it's home, and Yakul could just barely stand up inside the little cave. He peered out at the large paws of the beast and his eyes widened at how huge the claws on that cat were.

The lion sniffed the air, looking around, but his sense of smell was impaired by the sudden onslaught of rain that began to pound the earth. He huffed and walked away, hungry and wet.

Yakul grinned in sheet relief from his hiding spot. He waited until the short storm had passed to poke his head out and make his way to a grove of trees where he could hide for the rest of the night.

Golden eyes constantly moving, Fifia's heart raced, but not from fear or terror. No, the young klip had been running after the shadow of a bird for a good part of the day, a pastime that was inspired by the frequent races she would compete in against her brother. Her mind had never really left those early days, her body growing and changing, leaving her in a childish state. Her mother had tried fervently to change her, but in the end, there was no changing Fifia's lovable nature.

Hooves kicking up dirt, her golden eyes were locked on the fading shadow of the bird, it's small frame climbing higher and higher in the warm air. Fifia slowed, eyes moving up through the blue sky to see the dainty feathers, slowly getting smalled and turning into a black dot against the sky. She sighed, disappointed that her game had ended and her fun gone. She looked ahead, to a small area with a boulder. She was hopeful, but upon further inspection, there was no life among the scene. Her head fell towards the ground, and her eyes grazed over a small indentation in the muddy ground. Her ears perked, and her short tail started to sway, recognizing it as a hoof mark after comparing it to her own. She bounced a few feet, starting off in a direction that she could only hope the tiny print trail lead to. Peering out, she grinned, spying a small area of trees not too far off. With newfound hope, she set off, like a small child running home after dark, hoping to find someone to end her lonliness and boredom, if only for the day.

Yakul had entered the small clearing of trees, his large dark eyes taking everything in. He was glad to get out of the drizzle that now fell from the sky. Shaking off his slightly wet coat, he looked around at the small tress that surrounded him.

"Hmmm..." He mused, "Looks like as good a place as any to take a rest." He found a patch of fairly dry grass and settled himself on the ground, folding his legs underneath him.

Just as he was getting comfortable, the sound of tiny hoofbeats reached his ears. He immediately sat up again, staring in the direction the sound was coming from. He desperately hoped it wasn't the lion, since he was exhausted and didn't think he could outrun the beast again. But the steps were much too soft to be anything much bigger than himself, and he peered curiously at the edge of the foliage.

Pressing on, Fifia stared at the brown of the trees around her. She slowed at the edge, looking around cautiously for the dangers that her brother had told her to look out for. He worried about her, especially since she was a tad childish most of the time.

Her eyes caught sight of the small hoof prints, that were actually a little bigger than her own. It was exciting, being able to meet another creature that was like her. Or, not something that was trying to eat her.

She followed the little prints, keeping her ears up for any sounds that would clue her in to the whereabouts of the creator of the prints. Looking around, her golden eyes caught sight of another pair looking back out at her from a darker area. She immediately lit up, bouncing over towards the other. It looked just like her, only with horns. "Hi!" She ran up close to him, flaring her nostrils as she smelled the other. "I'm Fifia. Why are you hiding in there?" She poked her head in the more covered area, looking around.
