Ivie seemed withdrawn today, her eyes starring and unfocused as she lay in the entrance to her den. Froth was gathering at the corners of her mouth and she shook her head a little, as if sensing something was amiss.
Ears, nervous and twitchy, turned at every distant sound, and finally, with seemingly great effort, she stood and paced out across the spongy, moist grass. It had rained and now the world smelt different. Alive. Cool. Reborn. Why would the rain not refresh her in such a way? Why was she always the same?
Charon stirred as the shadow from his mother's body stirred, allowing light into the den. He had been fast asleep, warm and content, but could not help but be stirred by the sudden movement. His concern for his mother appeared to be growing daily. She was not herself. He was beginning to wonder if she ever was herself, or whether she was like this all the time.
Witha small questioning chirp, he moved after her, stepping over siblings as he went.

Taiga was next to his brother stirring as he stirred and closed his eyes tightly as the light hit his face. He groaned rolling over, a paw flopping over his face. Why did he always seem to be woken up before he was ready? It was of no matter, he would just roll and go back to sleep.
However he couldn't help but notice that his brother had not only gotten up but had begun to move around. He opened his eyes watching as Charon followed their mother. He sighed, he knew how worried his sibling was about his mother and how he also knew that they wouldn't be around for too much longer.
Father was coming back and soon.
He pushed himself up and followed his brother. "Charon, mother."

His ears twitched backwards and then his head turned to see one of his siblings, Taiga, getting up, too. He smiled, glad he wasn't the only one to waken so easily and paused to let him catch up. He nodded softly.
"I was...just going to go and see if she was okay." So young, but with so many worries on his little shoulders. It was sad, and if Ivie had known, it was likely she would have hated herself even more. But she didn't notice. She hardly noticed anything anymore.
"You coming, too?" He asked, moving up and out of the den and out into the world - somewhat more beautiful after the rains.

"You worry too much brother," Taiga stated letting a yawn roll of his tongue. He was still so sleepy. "I understand that Mother has...problems but I doubt she would be pleased to know how much you worried, especially since you're still so young," he commented with a shrug as he followed him out to the opening of the den.
He stopped at the entrance peering up at the rain. It was a strange thing, it fell from the sky with no particular origin. It made no sense and that was why he loved it.
"Yes, I'm coming," he called back stepping out after Charon.

Glad that he wasn't going alone, he gave his brother a light shove and moved out. The sun shone through the rain, lighting each drop with a sheen of gold. Quite beautiful, really.
His brother was right. He shouldn't worry too much, but he couldn't help it! Maybe if their father had been around to take care of her, he wouldn't have to. But he had a feeling they would never be together as a family. Particularly if his mother was to be believed about his returning. He often wondered what sort of a lion he was, and what he was doing out there in the rogue lands.
"She won't know." He replied softly. "Oh, look, she hasn't gone far, anyway." He probably worried for nothing, though she still had not turned to see them.
Ivie's head was lifted now, the end of her tail rising, too. Her eyes, still somewhat dazed, fixed upon something up there in the sky. Arching above the world. She knew what it was, though she had not seen it in a very, very long time.
"A rainbow..." She whispered.
