¡ In The Not So Distant Future... !

════════════════════════════════════════════════════════

The year is 2084. The world is highly industrialized, full of technological marvels that, even 30, 40 years ago, could only be imagined. Everything now is more extreme, more dangerous, better, than it was. The jet cars zoom down the streets, with no time to admire the towering, shimmering buildings scraping the skies. Music and videos can be downloaded directly to your brain. Surgery can make you look like even the most fantastic and exotic of creatures. Everything is perfected. Except one thing. People are still seeking to prolong their lifespan.

Finally, in 2087, the answer is found. Cloning is perfected, and it can be used, through the transplantation of parts, to prolong someone's life. The mortality rate goes down. People are living for as much as 200 years, and can still look about 30 by constantly replacing one's body parts, using parts taken from a clone. Sure, the parts could be cloned individually, but it is much more economic to just clone the whole person. Well, the clones eventually rise up against this treatment, and in 2104, the Clone Revolution begins. It is quickly quelled, as there are far more police and soldiers than there are clones. In a matter of a few months, the clones are suppressed. Five months after the beginning of the revolution, cloning is outlawed across the world, and all existing clones are marked for termination.

The year is now 2107. What clones there are remaining are fugitives, running from the world governments, and hiding from the general populace for the most part. Propaganda has ensured most humans will stay away from them. They are believed to be dangerous and unstable. And for those who can't be swayed by tales of violence, there is also a hefty bounty on every clone's head. 5,000 dollars for bringing in a clone to any police station or other designated location, dead or alive. Some people were angry at this, as the parts harvested from clones allowed them to extend their lives, but they were few and far between. Most just gave up and started hunting the clones (or sending out people to hunt instead of going themsleves). Some clones can manage to pass themselves off as normal humans, and are safe, for the most part, but those that can't don't live very long.

¡ Let Me Lay Down The Law For You... !

════════════════════════════════════════════════════════

Here's just a few basic rules for you to follow. Nothing too complicated. You have to post at least a paragraph. At LEAST. I'm not kidding. And by paragraph, I mean a good 5 to 7 sentences with some good information. I would prefer you to give me two, but since I sometimes can't get that much, I won't require it of you. But if you can't manage five measly sentences (and by measly, I mean meaty), don't bother. Fill out the entire profile form, including the coding and such. Yes, I want you to add a picture AND a description. And no one-sentence answers, seriously (unless I ask for a list or something). If I ask for one paragraph +, you better give me at least a paragraph. I'm not kidding. When you're finished with that form, you PM it to me. Title it "My Big Fat Greek Llama", or else I won't accept you until you resend it with the proper title. How else am I supposed to know you sat and read through this entire paragraph of rules? Also, follow the rules on the front page. And that pretty much covers it. I'll add more as people break them (hopefully I won't have to edit this post).

¡ Don't Know Much About Nothing... !

════════════════════════════════════════════════════════

Some facts and trivia to help enrich your roleplay experience! Yay!

All clones are bar-coded for identification. The bar-code can be scanned to learn who the clone is of, when they were created, and why, cost, and contact information. The bar-code is located on the inside of the right wrist.

No clone is older than 20, though some have received special growth hormones to make them age faster, and to make them ready for harvesting sooner.

Some clones were made and kept by the government. Using special engineering, they were turned into super-soldiers, with amazingly fast reflexes and three times the strength of a normal human male. No one knows what happened to them after 2104, but it is assumed that they were exterminated. Some conspiracy nuts believe that the government has kept them, and even sends them out after the normal clones.

Most clones don't have normal names or surnames. Some have chosen to take on the name of their original, or make one up. Usually, they are given the first name of their original, and a number designating their order in a series as a surname. Alice 003 would be the third clone made from a woman named Alice, for example (000 being the number given the original).

Sometimes a couple for some reason can't reproduce. In this instance, they may turn to cloning. By randomly combining genes from both originals, clone can be made resembling a normal human child, with traits from both parents. This is a popular way for same-sex couples to reproduce.

Super Soldier 0926

The shadows stretched their black fingers across the pavement as the sun set over the tall sky scrapers. The last dying rays of light flared in the mirrored glass, setting the buildings on fire for a second. In the next instant, the sun sank below the horizon, and the city was cast in dark, thick shadow. When the sun went down, the city went to sleep. Anyone out at this hour was considered an odd one.

One such odd one was crouched on the roof of an old condemned condominium. The cold night wind cut through the thin jersey knit of her tee shirt, but she didn't feel it. 0926 was trained to ignore such things as discomfort and pain, to the point where it was almost like she didn't feel them at all. She peered out through the night vision goggles, scanning the ground, so far below, for her prey.

Movement.

0926 tensed, ready to strike. She could see a body exiting the building. It was the clone she had been tailing. She saw the little mouse look around, checking for danger in the shadowed alleys. The mouse didn't think to check for hawks. 0926 loaded her gun. In five seconds, the clone would be dead. She aimed. In that second, the clone looked up. She pulled the trigger.

The clone dropped to the pavement. 0926 fired two more rounds. Just a precaution. She rarely missed her mark. She dropped over the edge of the roof onto the fire escape and swung down to the ground. She checked the body for a pulse, and found none. Good. She took out her scanner and waved it over the inside of the clone's right wrist. There was a beep, and the screen lit up with information. She took the goggles off and read the words as they popped up on the screen. Everything was in order, so she pressed the button on her radio cuff.

"Target apprehended. Come for retrieval. Stand by for coordinates." She held the button down and let GPS send her location through to the base. When she got the affirmative beep, she released the button and was off again, into the shadows.

The muffled sound of breathing came from the wall. Two glares arose from the long shadow of the buildings as the clone hunter vanished into the night. The two round glares moved from left to right, as if they were watching for something. Once the believed that every thing was safe they made their way into the moonlight that illuminated the ground.

The eyes grew into a silhouette of a tall figure then into a a dark human being. The figure wore a gas mask and wore a dark brownish green hood. His coat was medium sized and his pants were a dark brown. His mask was white with black.

The man began to run down the street. As he began to speed up the street lights began to flash like cameras. Eventually the man stopped in front of a bike. He put his left leg over and sat down. He waved his wrist over the engine and the bike started up. The man then began to drive away.

Alice felt the cool night air hit her cheeks as she left the store. She turned the key in the lock, arming the security system, and was done. A giggling couple passed her on their way to a party in the down town district. In this town, people partied until dawn, and then some. Alice waved amiably to them, and they nodded, indicating that they had seen her. The interaction didn't go further than that. Few did, a fact for which Alice was glad.

Alice started walking in the opposite direction, heading for the motel she was staying in currently. The Lucy Liu. It wasn't the best of places, and Alice suspected her mattress to contain at least fifty percent cardboard, but it was comfortable enough, especially for what she was paying for it. Two bucks a night wasn't bad, and even if she had to sleep on the floor, at least the rooms were heated. And there was free breakfast If you could call a box of granola bars and metallic tap water breakfast. She wasn't going to complain.

Complaining only brought attention, anyway, which was exactly what she was trying to avoid. Her nomadic lifestyle was perfect for making sure she was recalled only vaguely, and she didn't reach to high, instead opting for jobs such as that of a check out clerk at a department or convenience store. It kept her entertained, but it also ensured that no one would remember her as anything other than "that nice young lady at the counter". Which was exactly how she wanted it.

Alice reached the motel without event, and unlocked her room. It was undisturbed, everything as she had left it when she had gone out earlier that day. She closed the door softly behind her, so as not to bother any of the other residents, one who she had learned was especially irritable. Well, she'd just be extra careful and tip-toe around like a mouse, then, as she went through her nightly routine of getting ready for bed.

A knock on the door surprised her as she was in the midst of brushing her teeth. She set the tooth brush down on the edge of the sink and spat the foam into the basin. She wiped her mouth on the back of her hand and walked to the door, standing on her toes to peer out the peep hole. The warped face of a police officer came into view. Alice suppressed a rising feeling of panic and walked softly back to the main part of the room. The officer knocked a second time. Alice grabbed her back pack and made for the window. She fumbled the catch a few times before finally managing to work the window open. She could hear a banging coming from the door. The officer-officers, she could hear multiple voices, muffled though they were-were attempting to bust the door down.

She was out the window just as the door caved in, and two officers, a man and a woman, rushed in, guns offensive. She ran for all she was worth down the road, weaving in and out of alleys. She could tell from the noise behind her that the cops were following. She didn't risk looking back, though, as that would only slow her down. She had learned that one the hard way.

After about half an hour of running, Alice had finally managed to elude her pursuers, due to no skill of hers. The cops had merely given up. Why bother chasing down some clone when there were real criminals to catch? No, they would leave her for the bounty hunters. She slowed to a walk, breathing heavily. Her legs felt like jelly, and her walk was wobbly. She turned the corner where she knew there would be a bus stop. Once she caught a bus out of town, she could start over again.

A quiet high pitched hum skipped across the buildings. The flapping of cloth, at the same volume, competed to be heard by the surroundings. The lights dimmed and brightened, as if a child where playing with them, making the dark metallic gray motorcycle with dark red designs sped through the streets. The bike was a 2104 model with no license plate and a hooded figure rode it.

The glares of the lenses moved left to right like wandering eyes, watching all that happened along their path. A female figure flashed her reflection across the lenses as she ran into an alleyways and the mask turned to the source. Cops entered the lenses as they were running towards the ally.

The figure had an idea of what was happening, and decided to jump on it. It was prey, another bounty to be gained to him. The cops had stopped not far from a street light which had caught the bike like a net. The bike waited, not to attract anymore attention than already was on them. The light turned green and the bike made a slow and easy U-turn towards the ally.

The bike came to a slow pace as the mask scanned the area. It knew the girl would make her way back to the street. They always did. The mask spotted a bus stop ahead and an exhausted girl walking towards it. and pulled into an ally across from it. The bike's eyes dimmed and it hushed down.

The Masked figure stepped off the bike and put his hood well over his head, hiding himself in his own shadow. He began to walk across the street. He looked like he was dressed for high winds and slight rain, yet there was neither. The very grim reaper looking figure sat at the bus stop neither acknowledging the girl or letting her see his face. The figure sat in silence as they waited for the bus.

The halo of light cast by the lone street lamp over the bus stop was both inviting and repulsive at the same time. Alice wanted so much to sit down, to ease her tired legs, but at the same time, she knew that she would be seen. She slowed in the middle of the street, debating on what her next course of action should be. On the one hand, the sooner she left the town, the sooner she would be safe. On the other, she really didn't want to be seen, not by anyone.

The bus stop and the surrounding street was rather lonely, and chances of detection seemed slim at the moment, so Alice continued her walk towards the bench. The only other person there appeared to be a man, though it was difficult to tell under the ridiculous amount of clothing he had on. He looked like he was going to some costume party, as were all the rage this month, what with Halloween coming on. She gave him only a brief glance, and sat down on the other end of the bench, as far away from him as she could get without falling to the ground.

She sighed quietly in relief to finally be sitting, and pulled her bag into her lap, clutching it in her arms. For all of this other person's seeming ambivalence, she still did not trust him. She rarely trusted anyone, anymore. There was too much risk, and as soon as you admitted some little secret about yourself, you were staring down the barrel of some bounty hunter's gun, and Alice was sick of it. She didn't see why her life should be worth five thousand dollars, or why she should even be exterminated at all. Just because she wasn't created in the "proper" manner didn't she should have to die! But no, clones were dangerous. They had killed people. They forget that humans do the same thing, but no one "outlaws" them. She sat on the bench and fumed while she awaited the arival of the bus.

There was silence, and tension was thick. The occasional passing car didn't help eithe because cars were virtually silent now. The night continued to consume the city, day was still yet to come, and the mask had yet to rest.

A few minutes had passed and the mask took a loud breath, one resembling dart vader. There was a pause. "5,000. You'd think they'd be worth more." The masked figure was reffering to clones and their bounty. "Is it really worth 5k and a pat on the back? And what of the super soldiers." The figure still had his hood up and his head down.

Alice started at the sound of the other's voice. She rotated her head slowly to look at him, though he appeared to be talking to himself, or at least to no one in particular. Alice exhaled quietly. 5,000. You'd think they'd be worth more... She frowned slightly and tried to get a better look at the man-she could tell now that he was a man by his voice. Her right wrist itched, and she tensed. The man appeared to have no particular interest in her, so why was she starting to freak out?

Is it really worth 5k and a pat on the back? A question she had often asked herself. But why was he saying these things out loud? Unless... Alice looked away quickly. No, there was no way he could possibly know. She had never seen him before in her life! Granted, it was hard to tell under that costume, but she was sure she'd remember meeting someone who made her feel this... Uneasy. And what of the super soldiers... Super soldiers? Now Alice's curiosity got the better of her. She had heard only briefly of super soldiers, from some conspiracy nut she used to hang out with a couple of towns back. Apparently they were some secret government cloning project or something. She had always assumed them to be fake, but... Unless this was just some clever ploy to gain her trust so that she could later be turned in! That could be it. But why go through all of the trouble? She was still mulling that one over when the bus drove up the street.
