Morning had dawned a few hours ago, however the sun was hidden from view by thick white clouds slowly floating overhead in the sky. Only a sliver here and there of blue was able to peak through for but a few moments. The sunshine was even rarer to spot than the tiny bit of blue. Perhaps a storm was rolling on by, and the farther the clouds got the darker they became, gray and almost black, heavy with the load they carried. An ominous sign perhaps for those that such a storm might unleash upon them. Such details could not be mistaken by anyone, for when there was rain or storms there were gray or nearly black clouds. The raw umber and fallow colored wolf with only a bit of black on her snout, back and two stripes on each forelimb worried slightly. Her sky blue eyes stared up into the abyss the skyline presented. Where was she to go in order to be inside safe from the possibly approaching storm. She watched as the clouds rolled, the winds picking up speed that even she was slightly moved by its force.

She shook her head, uncertain then as to which direction to go in hopes of seeking some form of shelter which she'd be able to fit into. A shelter that wasn't occupied already by someone not inclined to be kind to a stranger outside beneath the open skies, even during such weather. Although the heavens had not broken loose their wrath upon the land, Kayeli did not wish to risk it, if there were shelter at all to be found anywhere. Besides that she was deathly afraid of thunder storms and she feared that the formation of the clouds might lead to one. With a whimper she began to run due north, hearing a crack in the distance, jumping at the sound. Just for a moment she stilled and shivered, her heart racing, so much that it hurt. Giving herself a shake she ran forward, eyes wide, not really noticing what or who she might have passed or what was up ahead of her. She only wanted to hide somewhere, far away from the sound of thunder and it hadn't even yet begun to rain. Neither had she seen lightening, but that didn't mean that it hadn't somewhere, nor that it would not rain at all.

As she ran forward, one of her back feet got entangled by the root of an old sequoia tree, causing her to gasp in pain and stumble forward. Her foot was free, but a tiny gash, just a little deeper than a scratch was the present from the roots as she fell onto her forelimbs having lost her balance. She closed her eyes, taking a deep breath, trying to zone out and to pretend she was anywhere but where she was at. That the weather was anything other than what it was in that moment.

As the clouds loomed overhead, pressing their ominous signs around, threatening with rolling thunder that vibrated the very ground and through the bodies of the creatures of the wood it did not strike any sort of fear in the large wolf that padded through the darkening wood, with every passing moment the world around the starry pelted wolf with the pentacle on his forehead grew to resemble a starless and moonless night. His tilted his head upwards, his good eye watching as the clouds quickly closed in overhead. It mattered not to him, he knew the cycle all too well, the rain would come and soak the earth, feeding the plants allowing them to grow, which would feed and shelter smaller creatures and occasionally the wolves and other carnivores as well; in turn the smaller creatures could grow fat from the plants and be hunted by larger animals, the large creatures would pass away, their bodies feeding the earth with the rain beginning the never ending cycle all over again.

A rushing sound and panting, the smell of fear caught the large male mere moments before a female dashed across his path and stumbled yelping over the roots of a large tree. He looked over tilting his head at the female. He limped forward, raising his tail slightly. "Goodness, does the rumbling of thunder always make you dart like spooked hare?" he asked, a smile tugging at his lips. He was partially amused at the sight of the female. Though he had once been terrified of storms himself, over time he had grow used to the rain and the sounds of thunder and heavy winds that whipped passed him. Though he was no fan of wandering about with a soaked pelt at times there was nothing he was able to do about it and merely dealt with it, seeking out the thickest tree for cover where he would get the least amount of rain showered down upon him.

"I'm sorry." he shook his large head and looked at the female sympathetically. "That was insensitive of me. I guess I've just grown used to storms and they no longer bother me at all when they come around. I suppose you're looking for a place to hide away from it, am I right?" he asked looking around. He was a wanderer and never stayed in one place too long.

At the sound of another voice, she stiffened, her eyes peeling open. How embarrassing! she exclaimed to herself, to be seen in such a state and to add insult to injury she'd lost her balance. Beneath her fur her flesh felt heated, as though she were flushing with mortification, more so when she had run through what he had first said through her head. Gingerly she lifted herself up, so that her rump rested on the ground along with her paws. "I suppose it does..." she was reluctant to admit, but she did not think it was ever wise to lie. It mattered not that she did not know him. Honesty had in her way of thinking always been the best policy, or at least as far as she could recall, since some of her past was blurred at best. She often wondered if her fear of thunder storms somehow came into play from that time that was missing and scattered.

Her blue eyes turned toward the male, there was something different about him, however she wasn't to worried about that. At least she wasn't alone, although she did not enjoy being likened to a hare which had been spooked. When he apologized she gave a bob of her head in acknowledgment of it. She was certainly looking for some place to hide away, the rain was the lesser of her worries, but the thunder and even the lightening when it was there was enough to make her wary. "Yes, shelter would be nice, although I suppose the sounds wont go away, perhaps they'd be muffled..." another loud crash and she gave a start forward, then stopped abruptly, thinking she probably looked ridiculous acting as though she were some young pup waiting for the boogies to pop out from all dark edges of the world.

The sequoia or one of its neighboring offspring might have had a natural den formation, such trees were often large and did. Still bears seemed to be the most fond of them. Kayeli had not seen any holes in the ones she'd come across while just exploring, she thought perhaps it would have been wiser to have paid more attention instead of waiting around for something to occur that would send her into a panic. She winced as a streak of light lit the sky "Ugh I loathe storms." She trembled, there were only a few things she feared, but storms like the ones she was experiencing she disliked most of all.

The large male nodded his head. He looked up to the sky as the lightning streaked across, rumbling softly moments later, the storm was close at hand and there was likely only minutes before the clouds would burst open, letting loose the water they held upon their heads. He saw how the female started, she was as jumpy as a pup, but he understood her feelings of fear and anxiety towards the sounds. They were frightening things, Lighting could cause massive damage when it struck the earth, setting a wood to flames, craters in the ground, singing the ground black and smoking. The sound if close enough could damage ones hearing and the light, blinding.

He dipped his head at the female and looked about the trees, as large as they were and by the smell of the area, at least would he could smell over the scent of rain heavy in the atmosphere there was likely to be a good sized badger set or something of the like that the female could rest in until the storm passed over. As quickly as the clouds seemed to be moving it was likely to be a quick, but violent storm. "Come, I'll help you find some shelter. I'm not worried about myself. There's likely to be a small empty badger set around here someplace. Usually areas like this contain at least one hole a wolf can fit through." he chuckled carefully stepping out onto the roots, watching his balance and making her his single hind leg was on a steady root. He good eye scanned the area, seeking down through the roots for that tell-tale whole with the stick and moss covered opening.

"As I said they do not bother me in the least. But I've suffered through more storms that I could likely count in my many moons." he chuckled again and he slowly moved forward. His pale nose twitched slightly scenting out a badger, and older scent or anything that could lead to an opening that was likely previously used by some other animal for shelter. "My name is Akinobu, by the way, may I ask your name?" he asked looking back at the female for a moment with a crooked smile.

It had been awhile since she'd had anyone to even use comforting words to her during an atrocious weather pattern. She could not recall who it might have been, only that in her head there was a very feint voice telling her not to worry, that everything would be okay. It was a voice so far, so distant that she did not believe she would ever get closer to knowing the chunk of her past that lay in shattered pieces. Each piece one that was difficult to grasp and to hold long enough to make any sense out of it, to much was garbled. She believed somehow that a storm may have been a part of it, just before everything had forever changed the course of her life. Maybe she wasn't ready to know yet what had happened, why she ran from the storm as though it might somehow lead her to some all important, but terrifying realization. A truth she might not be able to bear.

Her gaze focused back on the male, with his interesting pelt. He was the second one he had come across who had had a fur pattern and coloration she'd not yet come across before. At least she didn't think she ever had, but there was a chance she was wrong, that she simply could not remember it if that were the case. When he said he'd help her find shelter, she gave a swish of her tail, her eyes lightening with hope that shelter would be found before the storm became worse. "Oh, thank you. I'm not sure I would even have thought that, or noticed, even though it was something I was looking for in order to escape the elements."
Though she was certain one could never truly escape them, at least it would minimize the anxiety she felt. "I must say, you have a nice laugh." She hadn't heard to many in so long who had laughed, she certainly hadn't very often, though she tried and tried. It was good to hear though, someones laughter or chuckle as it were.

As she finished speaking, she noticed that his limb was missing and blinked. She wondered what had happened, that was worse than the shape one of his ears was in. However he seemed quite comfortable, as though he didn't quite pay that much attention to it. How interesting she thought, and that he must be of a strong personality to have gotten through life with what one might term a physical deficiency. She thought it rude however to ask about it, only being curious as how it came about, nothing more and nothing less. She gazed up at him when he continued speaking. "I cannot recall all the storms I have known, not everything of my history is known to me, like a distant horizon that goes on and on forever." She had to quit saying things about that, some might take advantage of it, though somehow she didn't think he would even though they'd only just met. He seemed kind and helpful.

When he told her his name and asked for hers she smiled. "That is an interesting name you have, I don't believe I've ever heard one like it before. As for myself, I am Kayeli." Just at that precise moment it began to sprinkle and in no time would turn into an out and out downpour. A field mouse scurried into the base of a tree, where the roots stood up out of the dirt. There was plenty of hollow space beneath, though it might prove for large animals to be a tight fit getting in or out. Kayeli didn't see an entrance, though there surely was one. Her mind whirled, shuddering as another flash and crash rent the air.
