A shoe store. That's where his Mama Orii had decided to take him and his brothers on their outing of the day? Well okay, no, she was taking them all on a huge clothes shopping trip. But the shoe shop was the place they had arrived at first, and the boy was not looking forward to it.
Steve was a bit too young to think practically about clothes or shoes. Or realize when he was being practical. But the boy was pretty sure he didn't need a pair of shoes just because they had some dumb picture of a character he didn't care about on them, or lit up. Now his brother, Riya, loooooved the light up shoes or the ones with the pictures, or even weird sparkly ones with heels. But Steve could do without them, thanks. Especially when they were uncomfortable.
"Come ooooooooon. You've only got one pair of sneakers, Stevie! You need more!" Mama Orii whined as she tried to get the toddler to put on yet another pair of sneakers that didn't quite fit. He had big feet for a toddler and that made shoe shopping hard.
Steve pouted a bit and tried to pull them on. "They pinch my toes, Mama Orii." he told her, feeling internally glad - no sparkles on his shoes, please.
With a frustrated sigh, the girl shook her head. "Stay put. I'm going to see if I can find your brothers some first."

Natalya gripped Sabra's hand tightly as they walked towards the store. This was the first day out in such a large public place since she had cried that night. Tally was definitely nervous. "What do we needs here anyways?"
"Well unlike you - I would like to buy some shoes." Sabra sighed, "Though we need to waste money on you as well." The young woman knew that her 'daughter' never wore shoes. Except ice-skating and that was only because Tally need the skates then. But if she wanted to go to formal events or places the child needed at least one good pair.
"Pfft. Why?" Tally pouted lightly.
"Oh, come on it'll be fun." Sabra tried her best to sound happy about the whole thing, "We can get you some heels." She joked and actually laughed at Tally's expression. "Or I'll browse and try to find something comfy that you might like while looking for some to interest me."
"Sounds good." Tally giggled as both of them entered the store and started heading for the rows of shoes.

Steve was seated on the little stool his Mama had left him at when the older spawn walked by. Well she was interesting, he thought, noticing Boris and Natasha start to wiggle with interest at the sight of someone with a tail!
The toddler decided to be friendly, standing up a bit and heading over. "Heya!"

Natalya was standing on tiptoe to reach for a box when she heard the 'heya'. With a start the child wobbled backwards, with the box falling after her. She hit the floor, but was quickly pushing herself back up so she could grab the shoes.
"Hey!" Tally gasped as she scurried to put the sandals back into the box. Then she looked up and noted the younger boy's presence, "Hi there." She replied with a smile. "Ya startled me!" Tally tried to look accusing, but really didn't mind at all. Shoe shopping was boring stuff anyways. Who wanted to confine their feet in such things?
Plus he had tentacles like Lissy. Rainbow tentacles at that! "Wow!" Tally pointed at the goggly eyed tentacles with a giggle, "Your tentacles are uber cool!"

Steve looked nervous when she fell, but laughed a bit when she showed she was fine. Well at least the big girl wasn't hurt!
"Sorry." he replied, still laughing a bit when she told him he'd startled her. But he grinned brightly at the mention of his tentacles, "Thanks! They're called Boris and Natasha. They have googly eyes." he told her with a nod, like this wasn't a totally obvious fact. And to emphasize the point further, Natasha waved and made the eyes bounce.
"M'Steve. S'your name?"

"It's fine." Tally giggled as the googly eyes bounced. "Boris and Natasha are nifty!" The spawn frowned and her antenna flickered thoughtfully. Why did only kids like Lissy get the cool tentacles? Her antenna moved into her sight and she grinned. Well she still had her own things!
"Steve!" Tally grinned, "I'm Natalya - but ya can calls me Tally." She looked around and studied the younger spawn, "Ya here for shoes too?"

"I like your dangly thingy." he said, pointing up to her antenna.
Steve nodded, looking irritably over at where Mama Orii was picking shoes for Roshan. "Yeah. Mama Oriiohn wants me to have more pairs of shoes. But I don't want 'em. They're dumb and they're too small."

"Thanks!" Tally flushed, "Though my antenna doesn' have a name yet." She wondered, should she name it? Sometimes it did seem to have a life of its own. The child just shook her head. That's a question for later!
"True!" Tally nodded, happy to have found a supporter in her case against shoes. "They restrict and are just, ugh!" She frowned, "Sabra wants me to find a pair today. Cuz I don't has any cept a pair of really old flip-flops."

"My Mommy named mine." Steve explained with a shrug, prodding Boris, who had started to try and pick up and play with one of the discarded shoes.
"I don't mind wearing them but I don't wanna have tons of them." Steve said with a firm nod, "I've got sneakers and that's it."

"Ah." Tally grinned. So it was a mommy thing to name things! So why hadn't Sabra? Natalya shook her head with a grin, Sabra was more of a big sister than mother! Right? Well...maybe.
"Oh." Tally felt slightly deflated. Maybe she was the only person who minded shoes that much after all. "Sneakers?" Tally frowned and shook her head, "They don' sound comfy like flipper-flops or sandals."

"They're comfy. They don't flop off my feet like flip flops do." Steve commented with a confused air, "And sandals are yucky - they pinch my feet."
"Why do you have a dangly thingy and a tail? Issat just normal for where you come from?" the toddler asked after a moment, his curiosity still returning to the dangling lure.

"Eh, they don't let my feets breathe." Tally shook her head. It felt too stuffy in other shoes! But the child shrugged with a small grin, "Eh, we all has our opinions."
"My dangly and tail?" Tally shook her head, "I've only seen one person like me so far and even we was different. My two daddies gave me these." Her antenna blinked proudly while her wings fluttered sheepishly, "The labs...what about you? Does you have people all over with tentacles?"

"Huh?" Steve asked, looking rather confused by her statements. He wasn't the best speaker, being so young, but whatever she'd said, he didn't understand. "People...alll over...with tentacles?"

"Breath." Tally frowned, "Ya know wiggling ya toes and such." The child sighed softly before shaking her head and looking back at Steve with a soft grin. She probably confused him talkin' so much. It wouldn't be the first time she had been over talkative. Tally flushed lightly before nodding again.
"Yup! Like you. I knows some that are like ya, but I never really saw rainbows before. Do you know others with tentacles too?"

Steve shook his head, looking confused. He hadn't asked her about the breathing feet so that'd just been thrown in again. "Just Sandy." he said, scratching his head. "Sandy's got 4."
