Why bother with walking when one was a senshi? Libra's favourite part of being henshined up was the sheer power she felt in her muscles, like suddenly she was metal springs and coils all waiting to slide into action. Even going to Apollo's Coffee, jumping and running was easier, almost natural to her, and she felt like she was practically flying.

That was the best part of being a senshi. It wasn't intellectual, but pure, visceral emotion, the joy of movement. Giselle Petrova's skinny civilian body could never do the things Libra's sleek form did for her. It was a completely new sensation, overwhelming, liberating in a way that history books couldn't be. Physical power was completely different from intellectual prowess, and sometimes Libra could almost understand why ineffective dictators could get drunk on their victories.

She landed in an alley nearby Apollo's Coffee in time she never could have made as a civilian and then paused. Obviously, Sailor Libra couldn't be seen ordering a hot beverage. She knew she had to henshin down. But with Europa there it felt almost as embarrassing as stripping, undoing the glamour, returning to her prim civilian dress. She bit her lip and blushed before she stepped out of the shadows, but once she did, she was just Giselle Petrova again. No glamour, just a vaguely embarrassed, wire thin schoolgirl with her hair in a tight bun.

Roof jumping, that strange form of parkour that all Senshi and Negaverse agents alike practiced, seemed by vast consensus to be the best part of any and all powers granted by possession of a henshin pen. Of course, as Tallulah she was an athlete, a powerful swimmer who could cut through water like a hot knife through butter, but jumping through the air was different somehow, maybe because while anyone with proper training could swim, it took an extra step to learn how to leap from rooftop to rooftop with the wind in your face.

And of course you couldn't stride into Apollo's Coffee all dressed up like you were some kind of amateur superhero (even if this was the truth). From where she'd landed, Europa could tell that Libra had already changed back, although she couldn't properly tell if she was someone she knew just yet. It seemed to be in her best interest to follow suit, though, even if she did zealously protect her identity and fret over it every time she watched another episode of NCIS.

A moment later, Tallulah Cowden stepped out from the gloom behind the dumpster. The curves she had displayed as Sailor Europa either gone or hidden beneath her baggy sweats and a pair of dirty running shoes, and Europa's neat wave of glossy teal hair pulled into a messy ponytail and lacking its usual star clip.

She narrowed her eyes in disbelief at the blonde girl for a moment. Libra was... her rival from middle school? "It's been a while," she laughed, "Huh, Giselle?"

This was actually kind of hilarious.

Whereas Tallulah's eyes narrowed, once Giselle realized who she was looking at, her eyes widened.

She and Tate had just been discussing Tallulah the other day. It hadn't been complimentary (When were she and Tate ever complimenting someone who wasn't themselves?), and the first thing she thought was hardly strategically useful. It was, in fact, 's**t.' She had teamed up with the girl who willingly put Pavel in the Model UN.

"It certainly has, Tallulah." she responded tactfully. It would make sense, she supposed, that they made a good senshi team. Tallulah was intelligent, after all, questionable behaviour involving MUN that Tate reported aside. They had been rivals, or at least unofficial rivals for years in middle school. The difference between now and then was that Giselle had gotten the Crystal scholarship. Giselle had won, and now she was a zodiac senshi as well, so she relaxed by degrees. Tallulah had the element of surprise, but Giselle was still in the lead.

Not that it was a competition. Technically they were on the same team, but old habits died hard, especially when the old habit in question was comparing herself to others. "Shall we go in?" she asked. "It appears that we have some catching up to do."

Clearly, some people had not gotten over eighth grade Brain Brawl. Tallulah chose to ignore Giselle's less-than-warm reception, combatting it with a cheerful smile. They had, after all, just run someone up a flagpole, and if that did not make for a significantly improved friendship, she didn't know what did.

"After you," said Tallulah, holding the door open for the Crystal girl and following her inside. The warm air of the cafe hit them like a tidal wave.

"Why do they keep this place feeling like a tropical island in February?" she grumbled. "This is why we have a hole in the ozone layer." This kind of thinking summed up the difference between the two girls pretty well: Tallulah wanted to save the world; Giselle just wanted to rule it.

She placed her order - decaf and a scone - and grabbed a corner table where they could speak in relative privacy. "So," she asked quietly, "What are Zodiac Senshi?"

Giselle agreed with Tallulah for once, but not for the same reasons. She, like her father, believed in putting a jacket or a sweater on in cold weather rather than running up the heat bill. The Petrova household had no heaters. Heaters were for people who paid too much for electricity every month.

"It's hardly fiscally responsible," she commented, and went to the register to order: Black Earl Grey and a slice of pound cake. Joining Tallulah, she blew on her tea before replying to the question that she had been vaguely hoping the other senshi would ask, if only that she could explain that she was, in some way, elite.

"The Zodiac senshi are the 12 senshi, or 14 if you count both Geminis and our Princess, that make up the Zodiac Guard. We're somewhat like the Gentlemen of Last Resort, if you've read Nation. We're stronger than you Moon Senshi, and we're trained to be an elite fighting force that can deal with what nobody else wants to. We hold the line." Not that they were organized at the moment. They were not.

She sipped her tea. "At least, that's what I understand." she admitted. "I've been a zodiac for a while now, but I was caught in a Negaverse plot for a year, I'm sure you've heard of the human trafficking scandal on the news. That's a fabrication, it was an illusion meant to feed off of the power of the Zodiac guard." As she was describing it, she seemed somewhat drawn. It wasn't a pleasant memory. "The Negaverse must be stopped at all costs," she added.

"Obviously."
PostPosted: Thu Feb 11, 2010 3:48 pm

"Obviously," agreed Tallulah, nodding seriously as she stirred a packet of fair-trade sugar into her fair-trade coffee. She didn't ask further about the zodiacs, figuring that Giselle had done as much as she was really in a position to ask for, and she would find out more in time.

She stirred another packet of sugar into her mug. "The negaverse," she said, fiddling with her scone, ripping off a piece from the corner and dipping it into her coffee. "I know they're bad," she said, and ate the piece of scone. "But no one's quite explained to me what they do."

"They're some kind of para-military group, right?" she asked. She assumed this, given that they used names like "lieutenant" and such whenever she'd encountered them. Giselle seemed as good a place to get information as any.

She drummed her fingers on the handle of her mug. "I'm assuming Tate told you about the videos?" she asked.

Giselle blinked. "The Negaverse is a group devoted to Queen Beryl, the nemesis of your own Moon Princess," she explained cautiously. She hadn't been aware that the other senshi were quite this far out of the loop. Giselle was missing information, yes, but she was aware of what the Negaverse was.

She paused, trying to explain succinctly. "Think of them as an army of Earth, just as you senshi are an army of the Moon," she settled for. "The difference is that they kill civilians to achieve their goals, and whle the Moon operates on the principles of love and justice, they operate on the principles of power and hatred." Grimacing, she took a sip of her tea.

"Yes, she did," she replied, quirking an eyebrow at Tallulah. "And now that I know who you are, I think it's even more ridiculous than I did when I heard about it the first time. What if the next person who walks in on your editing sessions is a plainclothes Negaverse agent? I don't know about you, but if I were in the Negaverse and wanted an easy way to kill a possible senshi before they can even bother to henshin up, I'd go ambush the girl who happens to be posting excellent battle footage on Youtube." She sipped at her tea some more. "Not that I can stop you. But from one honours student to another, I don't think it's your most brilliant idea ever."

Something occurred to Giselle at that moment, and she added "And I don't want to see Sailor Libra in any of your footage. I'd rather my patrols stayed off the internet for the time being."
PostPosted: Fri Feb 12, 2010 8:28 pm

Tallulah nodded. "I'm not taking the videos anymore," she said, the obvious condition being unless someone asks really nicely. "Getting caught by Tate sucked and I freaked out and nearly trashed my computer over it. But, I mean, just so you know, I started filming before I knew I was part of all this."

She nibbled at her scone, thinking over this bit of information. "Wait, so they're, like, the earth's army, and they're protecting it from us, because we're from outer space, but they're protecting it by killing humans?" she asked. This went against the logic presented by every science fiction movie ever made.

She sipped her coffee contemplatively, nodding as if she was going to pretend this made sense. (It didn't.)

"But I'm done with the videos," she declared. "Done with them. One double life is enough for me, thank you very much."

"Make sure you are." Giselle warned, obviously not convinced by the heartfelt declaration. She had looked up the videos herself, out of curiosity. They were getting plenty of attention, and people like Tallulah and Giselle found positive attention hard to resist.

"The Negaverse are willing to sacrifice human life to destroy the senshi," Giselle replied, once again thinking of Barren Pines. "They need starseeds to gain more power as well, and the easiest way to get those is to pull them out of a human's chest. Humans don't henshin up and fight back." She fiddled with a sugar packet, adding, "I'm still recalling Libra's past life," as if the time it was taking to completely remember Libra's actions was a personal affront. "I can't tell you what started the feud, but I know that this isn't the first war between the Negaverse and the Moon Court." Most of the memories she recalled right now were Libra's ideals, things that had been stamped so hard into her psyche that they bubbled right to the top of her mind. However, a few memories stuck out, creating a hazy picture of political feuds and skirmishes that Giselle couldn't wait to piece together. The memories had been steadily flooding back, a little more each day, even more quickly when she was henshined and on patrol.

"At any rate, tell me about being a Moon senshi." She wasn't going to do all the explaining in this conversation.

Tallulah nodded and cleared her throat. "There are only fourteen of you, yeah? And you're organized?" she asked, as much as a starting point as to make sure she had things clear. "Well, we're not like that, as far as I can tell."

So far she had met... she looked down at her hands and ticked them off. "Well, I've only met five, but I know there have to be a bunch more, because there just being five of us doesn't account for nearly all of the weird things that go on around here." Actually, she had seen five. She had met three. And only two of those had been while she was actually henshined up herself.

"We're not very organized, that I know of," she continued. "I'm on a team, but it's just two of us - Sailor Pyxis and I. And Sailor Pyxis's guardian cat, Abel. But he's a grouch."

(Being a grouch seemed to be a requisite of being a guardian cat, if Sailor Castor's description of Astraea was anything to go off of. Chloe had also seemed quite harried, but there had been a rampaging plastic elephant involved in that incident.)

"We patrol," she shrugged, "Like what I was doing when you ran into me, we just kind of look around, make sure everything is quiet. If we find a youma we destroy it before it can make too much of a mess..."

Some messes were necessary: see, the ruined playground.

"If we run into Negaverse agents we beat them up before they can beat us up, but I sort of get the sense that we go easier on them than they would go on us."

"A guardian cat for two senshi?" Giselle murmured. And neither a princess, unless Pyxis was. She was fairly sure she would have heard of a Moon senshi princess though. "We have a guardian cat as well, Zue. I'd like to meet this Pyxis- or any senshi, really."

She steepled her fingers and thought about what Tallulah told her. "We need to network more. I'm looking out for any senshi I can, as should you. Don't hold back because you think someone is weaker than you or unpleasant, if you only know about five moon senshi and think there are far more, there's a communication gap in your ranks that could be deadly. A good army is aware of all of its parts."

"We went easy on Wolframite," she admitted. "I wasn't about to kill something with bows on it." Giselle knew she'd have to do it eventually, but she didn't want to have to dispose of a hapless child like Wolframite had been. She didn't want that to be her first kill, she was still human, even if she did come off as cold. "But the Negaverse will kill you, don't harbor any delusions about them being secretly kind. They're not like us."

"I don't think guardian cats are so special-" tittered Tallulah. "I mean, we have Abel, but I've met another one, Chloe - she was the one who gave me my pen, and Sailor Castor talked about some others--"

She realized that she needed to warn Giselle about Sailor Castor and his roaming hands (and lips!) She leaned in conspiratorially. "There's this guy," she said, "Sailor Castor. He wears blue, snazzy uniform, senshi of hail?"

If Giselle didn't know him, she was sure to run into him sooner or later. Sailor Castor seemed to insert himself into every situation, whether he was wanted there or not.

"You'll know who he is because the moment the battle's over he'll start checking out your a**. He might even start while you're still fighting." (This was probably true.) "Even if he is a teammate, I've got to warn you, stay five feet away from him at all times." She said this with enough conviction to move mountains.

"Do you patrol the area I ran into you in, usually?" she asked. "If you do, I'll see if I can get Sailor Pyxis over here some night. We're Team Anglerfish, because he's fireflies and I'm the deep- actually, you know what, never mind."

It had sounded so much more clever when they made it up.

Giselle shrugged. "Well, we have one, but he's our Princess's."

Princesses: One up on a guardian cat even for two moon senshi.

She leaned in and frowned slightly as Tallulah explained Sailor Castor. He sounded a bit like Andeon, hopefully without the alcohol. (Whosever idea it was to give Gemini Alpha alcohol when he henshined up was not Giselle's friend.) It wasn't exactly common knowledge, but Giselle was terrible at responding to flirting, and without fair warning, she was completely blindsided by it. For a slender blonde girl usually in a Crystal uniform, a low flirting tolerance was not a good thing to have.

Be that as it may, though, to get used to someone flirting with her, she had to have time to grow accustomed to it. It had taken months of Andeon's requests to play 'Petrova-in-my-Pants' until Giselle had been able to stop blushing and walking away quickly and managed to retort. "I'll keep it in mind," she replied to Tallulah. "On that note, though, I would suggest not looking appealing around Gemini Alpha." She wasn't sure if Andeon took being a zodiac seriously, but when one got around to it, the senshi were mostly scantily clad young ladies running around and defeating youma, and she wasn't going to overestimate his ability to handle that kind of work environment.

She raised one blonde eyebrow. "Very clever," she commented, throwing Tallulah a bone. "I usually patrol around there, yes. I would enjoy meeting Team Anglerfish, though I may bring other members of the Zodiac Guard. Do you mind?"
PostPosted: Wed Feb 24, 2010 6:38 am

"There's one in every court, I guess," nodded Tallulah, although she did not know who Gemini Alpha was nor whether they actually had any real probability of meeting - of course, if Giselle brought him along to a meeting, then the advice would certainly prove handy. (The way Giselle was talking, Tallulah thought the chances of her actually bringing him were pretty low. Of course, she couldn't be certain...)

"Thank you," she murmured, at the very least grateful that Giselle was not heaping scorn upon their moniker. "That sounds good. Alright, maybe next week? Or two weeks from now?"

Someone was going to have to offer up a cell phone number sooner or later, or else this was going to get mighty complicated. Tallulah, after hazarding around with dates and times for a bit, dug her phone out of her pocket. Four years ago it might have been a fashionable, ubiquitous model, but here and now it looked charmingly reminiscent of the year 2006. "Just give me your number and I'll call you or you can call me when it's a good time," she suggested.

"Next week would suit me well." replied Giselle, pulling out her own phone. Surprisingly, it was sleek and modern. Apparently Giselle's interest in history did not apply to the phones that she owned. "000-456-1204," she informed Tallulah, "Yours? You may give Pyxis my number as well. Ideally, I would like to be in contact with as many of you as possible."

Getting her things together to leave, she added, "But we shouldn't meet up as civilians often. It'll look suspicious if we're suddenly on friendly terms with each other." Giselle had always considered Tallulah her rival perhaps more than Tallulah thought of Giselle that way. "I suggest that if it ends up that we need to converse in plainclothes, to come to my father's antique store and do so in private."

It was no secret that Giselle's mother was the one supporting her family. Giselle's father was a layabout with grand ideas about history and an antique store that he sat in every so often and cleared his throat at people who breathed too heavily on his merchandise. The only good thing that could be said about the store was that, yes, it was almost always empty, and thus good to meet at if you didn't want anyone to know.
