The sun was high in the sky. a slight breeze blew through a large meadow were very few creatures inhabited. Rishy lay sprawled in the middle of the grass, her eyes wide open and foam at the edges of her mouth. it had been three weeks since she had last eaten. she was beyond feeling hungar, even beyond feeling pain. she was hot under her thick pelt, and sweating, but she did not notice. images of her past flickered across her vision, as if they were dancing in the wind.

A rabbit family dead at her feet, the blood soaking into the ground. Rishy remembered as she laughed and walked away. chasing a foal through the forest, wanting to hurt it, wanting to see it fall under her deadly claws. playing with a mouse, beating it just to laugh at the sound of its squeaks of pain.

twisted...sick, twisted...wrong

she knew what she had become, but what was she now? her stomach growled. Rishy moaned as she rolled over and closed her eyes. the pain of what she had done was unbearable. poor creatures had died. too many voices seemed to scream at her. there was blood in her vision, in her mind. the voices screamed their death cries as she watched herself kill, over and over again.
murderer they cried at her killer! murderer! murderer!
"murderer!" she was screaming along with them, her voice hoarse. she could not decipher her own words from the cries of her prey.

What a nice day it had turned out to be! With the breeze gently teasing her braided mane, a young unicorn mare moved out away from her home and into the sunlight. The warmth sinking through her dark colored coat warming her from bone to soul, inhaling she took in the scents that were around. Much of it the earthy scents of the grass, trees and plants of her home, but there was something else out there. The wind carried it to her nose as she inhaled again. Dark head tilting to one side, ears perching forwards as her slow walk picking up to an easy trot. Something wasn't right, something was definitely wrong.

Coming to the large open space, not too too far from her mountainous home, Nightling, the unicorn mare, scanned the space. Something was there, and it didn't smell... Right. Easing herself forwards, blue eyes scanning from side to side as she did, what was out there? Heart thumping against her own ribcage, she recognized the scent, it was of sickness, but here? Screams shattered the silence that had hung thick in the air like fog, chocking everything it could. Alerted, Nightling raised her head up and looked harder, squinting until she saw something small and black laying off to one side of where she stood.

"hmm..." she muttered to herself as she changed directions and headed towards the black object, as she drew closer the scent grew thicker. Nightling wanted to hold her breath, but it was going to be impossible to do, taking a few breaths she stepped closer to the young foal. Yep, it was a foal, and it didn't look too good, she noted to closed eyes, sweating and the foam at the edges of its mouth. Shaking her head, how could this have happened, not really taking in that the young one was of a breed of killers.

"Little one?" she asked lowering her horned head nudging it gently, not knowing yet if it were a girl or boy. "What is the matter?" Nightling had a pretty good idea that the little one hadn't found shelter in the past bad weather, oh it broke her to pieces to see something suffering. Ears flicking back against the screams that came from the foal, Nightling remained unmoving, head lowered, concerned.

Rishy's eyes shot open at the sound of a voice. it was louder than the other voices, but its words were lost in the screaming of her mind. she looked around her, her eyes wild with terror, until she saw the mare standing over her. the sun gleamed off the mare horn, a light that seemed to promise good, but Rishy was not good, not worthy of the light. she shut her eyes, the light was still in the back of her lids like blood splotches. the sight made her sick.
"no! ive done nothing to you! i am young, dont take me back to Hell!"
the mares black coat reminded her of the many dark souls that she met in purgatory. she rolled on her stomach and began to dry-heave. she wished she could just vomit, but there was nothing to throw-up. Rishy tried to get to her feet, but stumbled and fell back down, her body shaking with exhaustion.
"i deserve this." her voice was hardly a whisper as she began to black out, her eyes falling to the back of her head. she could hear the voices of her prey murderer, go to hell

Nightling rarely looked death in the face then turned away, head lifting a little as she backed up a step as the foal rolled and dry heaved. Wide eyes blinked a little as she came forwards again, nuzzling her muzzle against its neck, letting it know she wasn't going to leave. "No one deserves such a fate, little one. Not even someone like you, you are too young to think of death. And I am not going to let anyone take you any place like that." She put her foot down on the last statement, and gave such a stubborn tone, had this been her foal, she would tan its hide.

Pulling away a little as the foal started to rise to its own paws? That was a feature she hadn't noticed, now that she looked it over, it clearly was of a darker race then her own. Still, she didn't care, gasping as it fell back to the ground, she came around to its back and nudged gently. "Come on, stay with me. Stay with me, just a little longer little one." Nightling kept nudging, trying to get her head under the foal.

She was aiming to try and slide it over her neck and onto her shoulders. It would be difficult walking, making sure nothing happened, but this place wasn't safe. She had to get the little skinwalker home, to her cup like valley in the dark mountains. Kneeling down, she adjusted her head so that her horn wouldn't get into the way and cause more harm then good. In the back of her head, Nightling wished she had the wings of her brothers, mother and sisters. They would have been a great help right now, but she was born pure unicorn, lion like tail included.

"If you can hear me, little one, can you try and slip yourself over my neck, This place ain't safe, not for you, or myself." Nightling's voice was soft, much like the voice of a mother. One of care and love, she wasn't going to let this one slip away on her, not even if she had to sell her own soul to the darkness to save the little one's. "And don't say to leave you, cause I am not leaving you here, alone."

the darkness was comforting, and quiet. Rishy had slipped unconscious for a few seconds, only to be woken again by the mares voice. so loud, stop it. she wished that everything would just leave her alone and she could just sit in the quiet darkness. she moaned at the mares touch and opened her eyes. "oh, its you...dark angel? no, no wings...reaper of death...horn, long tail? yes...go ahead take me, take me to my death." she mumbled to herself as she followed the mares promptings and rolled onto its shoulders.

she believed that the mare was her guide to hell and that she was being taken home. she felt compelled to tell her guide all of her sins...it felt nice to say out loud the things she had done. "death...ive killed...babies blood...foal was too slow...too loud...shh...stop talking foal, or ill eat you up" she began to cry.

Feeling the foal slip over her shoulders, Nightling eased herself back up onto all four hooves and turned gently towards home. Minding her footing and keeping an ear out for anything that might try and spook her into rearing and losing the little one off her back. She wasn't going to be taken by surprise, not today and not now. Picking up her pace as much as she dared, Nightling crossed the the open space in what seemed like no time at all and headed into the trees. Here she slowed, picking her footing carefully. Lowering her head away from any low branches and weaving through trees making sure to pick the widest of places and where she could not ease herself through, head once and a while looking back to the young life on her back.

Stopping a moment to catch her breath, Nightling craned her neck to nuzzle the foal's head the best she could. "It's alright, nature has her way of setting things right. For each death there is a new life to take its place." She said quietly before looking around the darkness of the trees, light sprung from her horn to dimly light her way. "We all live as nature intended, if you were meant to cause death, then that's what you are born to do."

Stepping on, she continued through the trees until she came to what looked like a sheer cliff wall encroached upon by a lot of ivy. Taking a path close to the cliff face, Nightling seemed to look for something. While she did, she continued talking to the little one. "Nature created me to help those in need, be they... Murderers?" she thought back to what the foal had been shouting when she found it. "I care for everyone, everything. Now hush about death, my name is Nightling, What's yours?" Looking back she watched the semi conscious foal, thinking now that sleep would help the little one. Giving a sight she finds what she was looking for. A hidden pathway that lead to her safe haven. "Almost there, so rest, you will be safe soon. Away from those that would give you death for what you speak of. Safe from even death."

"heal? safe from death?" the words were strange on her tounge, and she was not sure of their meaning. she focused on her surroundings. trees were moving by her, sometimes slowly, and other times faster. they were all different shapes and sizes. each tree reminded Rishy of squirels, and how she liked to hunt them for sport. yes, squirels hunting was loads of fun. is it wrong to enjoy my hunt?

things clashed in her mind making her temples hurt. "wrong...right...up...down." her body was made for killing, but her mind said otherwise. she half listened to what the mare was saying, only taking the things she saw as important. she did catch its name though and felt it odd that her death guide would not already know what her name was. she gave it anyways. best not to be rude to the one who hold your life unknown to Rishy, the mare was literally holding her life.

"nightling...sounds like an angels name more than a devils...im a devil...im Rishy..." Rishy looked to the ground and lughed a weak laugh. am i flying? the ground below her seemed to be getting further and further away as she began to slip back to unconsciousness. wait, i am i slipping? Rishy mistook the movement of Nightlings body as if she were sliding down a slope. she felt the mares gentle nudging and purred softly. wherever she was going it sounded good.

As Nightling started climbing the path that lead through the mountain instead of narrow dangerous heights, there she was scared for losing the foal from her back, she had seen birds fall to their death from nests before they could even fly. Sad thing that was, Nightling had come to see it as nature's doing, that they had some other divine purpose for the fallen chick. Cloud with her own thoughts she barely caught the little one's name. "Rishy huh? That's a cute name, even for one who calls them self a devil. You are just a young life, classify yourself when you are older, ok?" she asked as she continued to climb, the darkness was good, away from the heat of the sun, but not bone chilling cold either. Just a pleasant comfort, the glow from her horn seemed to brighten within the tight space, still wide enough to allow two to walk more or less side by side.

"I assure you that I'm not a true angel, I'm lacking in many ways. My parents called me Nightling cause of my coloration, I reminded them of the night sky on a clear night." Nightling gave a small laugh, ear listening to the only sounds within the pathway, her hooves and their talk. "When we get to my home, we will get you something to drink to help clear your throat and ease your belly. Have you eaten anything lately?" She asked, trying get the basics out. Nightling wasn't overly sure as to what was wrong with Rishy, perhaps ate something she hadn't and made her unable to eat for sometime?

Her lips curled downwards into a frown as she thought, while a head a light was shinning through the other end of the pathway. Seems that they were almost to Nightling's home and she was going to get Rishy to the pond for a nice cool drink. Hopefully that would ease some of the sickness that was plaguing her. Then again, Nightling could use a drink herself, the trip was a slow and exhausting one, but rest later. She had more important things to do.

"no angels...no devils..." Rishy's foggy mind had a hard time prosesing what that ment to her, so she just left it be. she did think about her age. i am young...its hard to believe it. everyone treats me like an adult, but im young she liked being in the shade. it felt good to have the hot sun off her back. "Nightling has a pretty sound to it...soft...watching...guardian mother..." Rishy never had a mother, or any parents at all. she was a creature of hell, made and raised by fire and hate. She looked over to Nightling's face...was Nightling a mother?

"Food? i dont eat anymore...last time was...two? no, no...three?" her muddled mind found it hard to count all the days she had refused to eat. "yes, i think it has been three weeks since ive hunted. i ate once since then, and that was two weeks ago...the squirrel was already dead." saying all of that made her tired and she rested her head against Nightling's shoulder. she swung her front legs back and forth testing to see if she was still alive.

Nightling had said she was not an angel...maybe not on the outside, but Rishy knew she was one on the inside. what am i on the inside? the question made her shiver. killer? thief? lover? hater? she thought of her only friend. he had been nice, they had talked. she had promised him that she was going to be a good person. it stung her to know that she had broken that promise.
"water sounds good...no water in the field...were i was..."

Nightling nearly stumbles as Rishy told her that she hadn't eaten for two to three weeks. She couldn't imagine not eating at least something once a week, Glancing back as Rishy rested her head against Night's shoulder. "that is far to long to not have somehing to eat Rishy. I don't even think I could go that long without eating something even as small as. I mouse maybe? Or even a fish." she thought over what she had seen other meat eaters have for a meal.

Stepping out of the pathway and entering Night's home. It was almost like walking into a dream. The small cup like valley looked big enough to host a small family. A couple trees shaded a small lilly covered pond. Bushes and berry shrubs. She waisted little time walking over to the pond, kneeling down she shifted to ease Rishy off her shoulders. When that was done, she would try coaxing Rishy to the water to get some water.

"Here we are, the pond if cool and clean. So drink until you don't think you can drink anymore." stepping up to the ponds edge herself, Nightling lowered her own head to get a drink to quench her thirst. While she did, she watched Rishy carefully, not wanting her to fall into the pond, even if it were shallow here.

Rishy never really liked the taste of fish. fish were too cold and hard to catch, but a mouse sounded really good. she licked her lips giving a small laugh as Nightling set her down. "that was fun...felt like flying" Rishy looked at the water in disgust. "water is wet..." she hated the feeling of water on her fur, and hated the time it took to lick herself dry even more. she licked her chapped lips. the water seemed to beckon to her. at the moment it sounded better than food.

Rishy lay on her stomach and began to drink. small sips at first, but the water felt so good down her throat. she began to drink greedily, filling her stomach until she thought she would explode. "that was good...i think i drank too much..." she rolled over and threw-up into a bush just off the bank. Rishy felt embarrassed, but thirsty again. she rolled back to the pond edge and began to drink more.

Lifting her head from the pond, Nightling watched Rishy for a moment as she guzzled down water, soon after feeling sick and losing it. Shaking her head as Rishy drank again she stepped over and attemped to rub Rishy's back to try and help. "Don't drink so fast now, don't want you to lose it again. Then we'd never get anywhere now would we?" Giving a soft giggle of sorts, she looked around, there wasn't much 'meat' here for someone like Rishy to eat, but she could think of something if she had to.

Straightening, she walked around the edge of the pond, until it reached the rock that lay about the boarders of her home. Not many fish came this far up stream, but there were always frogs and lizards that could be something. Lowering her head again, eyes peering into the depths of the pond, after a moment her head flicking and something flopped onto shore. It was a small green toned body and it appeared not to move after being swatted from the water. Stepping over to the small frog body, Nightling said something in a quiet voice before picking up the small morsel. She wasn't looking to eat it, but maybe after letting it dry on the flat stones it wouldn't be as cold or wet for Rishy to eat.

Ears flicking she looked back to the foal, hoping that she was doing alright while Nightling had been a little occupied with catching something from the other side of the pond. Giving a small smile she walked back to Rishy and lowered her head to be more eye level. "Feeling any better? Think you can walk a little, I have shelter here from this heat that you might find more suitable. If you don't think you can walk, I can carry you again, if you like."

Rishy took a few more sips from the pond and then turned to watch Nightling. the mare had left, but was back again. for a split second Rishy feared that Nightling would not return, but the feeling was gone when she returned. "yup, the water helped." she slowly stood up. it was weird to feel this weak. she could feel the strain on her malnourished muscles and wanted to sit back down, so she did. "its harder than it looks." Rishy tried again and stood up on wabely legs. she turned and smiled at Nightling. "ok, i think ive got this."

not that she minded Nightling carrying her, but it was a little humiliating to have to be helped everywere. have i even helped anyone? the question stung her. no, im only good for making people hurt and scaring people. was that wrong though? Nightling had said that it was what she was made for. why was i born a killer and she born a healer? Rishy shook her head and raised each one of her legs individually, testing to make sure she was stable.
PostPosted: Tue Feb 09, 2010 7:37 pm

Nightling smiled at Rishy as she made it onto her own four paws, though was still a bit shaky from not having eaten anything for a while. Standing patiently, waiting for Rishy to assure herself that she was alreight to walk, not that Nightling minded helping her out. When Rishy was ready, Nightling nodded and headed off, slowly, towards another cave, unlike the Ivy covered one that lead back to the forest below. This one was snug with patches of bare rock poking out of the moss and greens Nightling had tossed here and there to make things seem more homey.

To one side there were a what looked like a few bedding places made out of leaves, moss and pine branches, some just moss depending on what someone wanted. To the other were strange plants, some hanging from cracks in the walls. Others laid out on flat stones in almost neat rows. Seemed that they looked like herbs of sorts, some bitter others sweeter. Nightling walked into the cave, bowing her head a little to avoid braining herself against the hanging in the entrance. Having hit it a few times before now had made her remember it was there.

"Just take things slowly, you can pick out a place to rest. There are many here. Moss beds, leaf beds, even ones made of pine needles from the forest below. It's one advantage of living here, things aren't that far away." Nightling smiled as she stepped over to her herbs and started moving some around. "As always, you can always come here if you need a safe haven. My home is open." She added for future note.

Rishy slowly followed Nightling into the cave. her hunter eyes quickly adjusted to the dark. she took a look around stumbling from one bed to the next, testing eah one with her nose. after she had prodded each one she chose one that was slightly larger than her and made up of soft mosses with some pine needles mixed in. she flopped onto it with a huff and lay there admiring the make of the cave.

"i like this place...feels like a home..." it truely did have everything. it had clean water outside along with the forest for food. the cave was cool, but not to the point were it was too cold. it was the kind of cool that you look for when you want to escape from the hot sun. Rishy sighed and lay her head down on the moss. "ill take this bed...soft...but firm."

Rishy thought of Nightlings offer. a safe haven it sounded good in her head. to have a place to go and hide from the world. "everyone is judging me. they say im vicious and evil...spawn of the devil. you say nice things...i think i will visit here again...when i need to hide from the world." hiding sounded good.
