This is the rites thread. Once you have been accepted to join the pride you must post here with your lion doing their rites. This is a crucial part of joining the pride. Please note that this can be done as a Joining RP with another member, you just need to post the link to the Joining RP here.
Adolescent Rites must be done in a separate RP still with their parents present. If the parents aren't active get with the other litter owners and just assume they are there.
All the information about the Rites are in the Bahari info thread. Any questions please feel free to PM the mule. Thank you!

[[ He technically already performed the rites in a JRP which we haven't gotten to complete yet, I'd like to get him officially joined and certed so I hope I'm doing this correctly? ^^; He applied as Nyangumi ]] Remove She watched him and then nodded.
"Follow me."
She led him down towards the shore explaining the rites as they went so that he could go and enter the water once they arrived. It didn't take long to get to the beach and she sat herself down on the sand.
"Go on then, enter the water and wait for the tide to come in. I will call you once you have passed. If you come back before I call you then you will have failed." Her voice was still harsh but she knew that the rites could be dangerous, the sea could kill. Strawberry Gumi Bunny " Yes'm. " He hummed out, staring out to the water a long moment before he moved forward with a slight scowl. On a normal day, he was quite fond of water, and throwing himself into it, odd as that was. But with his current wounds he knew this was about to sting badly.
Huffing out as he stopped just before the shallows, he glanced back to the female wondering just how long he would need to remain in the water.
Shaking away his hesitation with a incoherent grumble, the move forward into the water, a low growl of pain escaping him. He ignored it though as he pressed on into the water til his feet no longer could reach the sandy surface below, careful to keep his head up above the water. Remove Kwaruza watched him enter the water unaffected by the pain he was going through. If the sea wanted him in pain then she was hardly the right person to question it. She watched as the water rose around him and as he struggled to keep his head above the water.
"You can come back." She called and waited for him to return. As he returned she welcomed him in to the pride. She then asked what he was good at. After all she needed to know what position he would work best in. Everyone in the pride had to pull their own weight and help out.

Bhavini stood out on the damp sand, far below the safety of the tideline above, standing there with the Bahari elders judging her worth. The Simbafutaji-born lioness had always found an interest in the sea, and stumbling upon this pride during her Seeking had been an epiphany. Though she loved her family, she had never felt she truly fit in with the Simbafutaji. So she would perform this rite, so that she could stay here-- where she really belonged.
Bhavini felt the sun beat down on her back as the waves began to lick at her paws. In minutes it was around her ankles, then her loin, then then her hip and withers, lifting her head and tail out of it, but not moving her legs, standing pillar-like against the onslaught of the rising tide, staring with determination out at the sea. She'd earn its respect. Soon the water was washing at her chin and face, and her slight form was buoyed by the liquid, but still she stood rooted to the ground. She tilted her head as high as she could to keep her nostrils above water, starting to panic a little, her eyes submerging, then she felt herself lose her footing, her head popping above water as the water made her float.
There was a cry as she turned towards shore and paddled in with the tide, knowing that she'd earned her place in the pride, and could now live here by the sea, with the sea, forever.

Zafrina stood tall, her head held high, and her heart thumping loudly in her throat. With a deep intake of air, and a strong resolve the female waded out into the water. Although Zafrina had a very strange obsession with water - or at least, that's what others said - this rite of passage still scared her silly, and she was positive the lions overlooking her rites could hear it thumping wildly.
As the waters began to rise at her feet the female's eyes widen in fear, but she quickly over rode those fears, knowing that by showing weakness she would not get what she wanted. Soon the waters were at her calves and Zafrina could do little more than hold strong as the waves became stronger, beating at her legs and attempting to make her lose balance, little did the ocean know, it wasn't going to be that easy. Moments flew by like hours as the water crept up the female's body and closer to her neck, the thumping in her chest became louder, and the water rose higher. As it did so, Zafrina's nerved began to get the best of her! Tilting her head high into the air, she closed her eyes as tight as she could, mumbling to herself near silent words of encouragement.
Soon the female began to feel weightless, and her chest fell to through her chest, gasping she began wading her paws in the water as it began to float her back to the shore. With a triumphant smile, she sped up her movements trying her best to stay with the tide.
This was her home now.
She had done it.

Today was the day. Omolara stood on the beach, feeling the warm sand under her paws, preparing herself mentally to perform the rites, to officially bring herself and Ur'ahava into the Pride. To give them a home. The Ocean was rather intimidating; that massive body of water that could so easily overpower her...but there was so much at stake here, and she was ready for this. Her life thus far had been anything but simple; from the loss of cubs to the fear and uncertainty of daily life on the prowl, caring for her only surviving son. The hunger, the desperation, the pain and the exhaustion had hardened her, made her resolved and dedicated to what she chose to do.
Today was no different. The Lioness stepped forward, placing herself into position. Soon enough the tide came in, the water rushing against her and finally around her. It hurt; the barrage of waves against her. But as much as it pained her, it freed her. She could get through this, the water could strip away all of her uncertainty, and she could return to the shore triumphant, part of a Pride, a family. She could easily provide for Ur'ahava, she could pass along her hard-learned lessons to the next generation. She could be a part of something big. Her dark eyes closed, letting all of the pain of her past go, being taken away by every push of the tide.
Before she knew it, her paws were being lifted from the sand, the water supporting her weight easily. It was a unique feeling, and one that brought a rush of relief through her body. Exhaling a heavy breath she didn't realize she was holding, Omolara swam back to the shore, met by the roars of her fellow Pride members...and the small roar of her own son. She had done it. She stood up against the Ocean and the Ocean accepted her. She was a part of something now, and Ur'ahava could have the life she always wished for him. It wasn't just the two of them anymore.
She didn't shake the water from her pelt; it meant to much to her in this moment. Let it drip and dry as it so pleased...it was the least she could do.

Nohokai had waited for this day for a long time. He'd wandered so long, missing the sea with each passing day. Kai had wondered if he'd ever find a place he could call home. That day had some when he'd found himself among those in the Bahari'Mtoto. The sea had brought him here; its salty air, crashing waves and the silky grit of the sand was like a sirens call to Kai.
Standing in the shallowest part of the breaking waves, Kai moved forward. The sand gave under his massive paws and he relished the velvet feel of the wet grit under his pawpads. Soon enough the waves lifted the bulk of Kai's body, waves crashing over his green form. He felt reborn in doing this; it was so spiritual. He was but a speck of nothing in the massiveness in the ocean. It was enlightening, and Kai felt no fear as the waves got bigger and bigger, crashing over him, dragging him under.
His breath ached in his lungs when he was towed under, bursting from his lips in a salty spray when he broke the surface of the roiling sea. He had thrown himself to the mercy of the ocean, and it had nurtured him and sent him back to the shore. Kai had proven himself.
Nohokai was home.

I'onoe wouldn't let it show, but she was nervous as she approached where the water met the earth. She paused there, the elders watching her, judging her. Her daughter would be nearby, watching as well. Her sweet girl, she was doing this for both of them. So they would have a home, somewhere safe, just for them. It would be just them, but that was okay, I'onoe didn't mind. It had been them for a while, and it was so much better that way. She smiled.
She took a deep breath, moving forward and soon the water was swelling at her paws and ankles, rising swiftly up her legs. The tide was hard and pushed her, but she stood as firm as she could. She swallowed nervously. It wasn't the water that worried her, it was the thought of this deciding their future. What if she failed? She knew they wouldn't be removed from the pride, but it was still a daunting thought. She needed to do this, for herself and for Nai'a.
The water was around her hips now, and was soon swirling across her back. With a sharp cry, her paws were lifted from the sand and she began to float weightlessly in the water, the tide embracing her and carrying her. She slowed her breathing and turned back to shore, paddling as quickly as she could, back to her new home, and her daughter. She had passed. She was part of this world now, they were home.

Umuthi'johari has spent lots of her time traveling with her brothers and father, in the Rogue Lands, near bodies of water. None could compare to what she was laying her eyes upon at this very moment. It was the ocean, glistening under the sun's rays and crashing against the shore's line with a mighty roar. It was spectacular and intimidating all at one time for Umu.
The bodies of water in which she frequented her swimming time in were not nearly as large, and on many occasion had banks in which she could swim to and heave herself up upon incase currents got to rough for her. This,... this was the ocean, endless and deep. Today she would walk into it and allow it to wash over her, surfacing as a new lioness with a place she could finally call her home. It was more than exciting to the adolescent, who at this point was finding it hard to contain herself.
Taking a deep breath Umu approached the massive body of water and took her place in order to perform the rite. It didn't take long for the massive body of water to begin to swell, a cool sensation resonating as the water washed up against her legs and began to steadily climb. Umu couldn't help but breathe in sharply as the cold water touched every inch of her, causing bumps under her skin to form.
It only took moments before Umu felt the sand from underneath her feet disappear and this off weightless feeling replace it. She wondered if this is what birds felt like when they were flying, the water beginning to raise past her chest and quickly rushing over her head. With her feet she pushed to the surface, her head popping out of the top of the water with a little pop and a breath.
She felt the waters begin to recede around her and looked for the shore, spotting it quickly. With her best paddling motions she made her way back to the shore, feeling sand against her feet once more, a familiar heavy feeling. She had braved the ocean's waves and came out reborn. She passed. She was home.

Shawazu walked into the surf, his head held high as he took the traditional place. As the water rose, his nervousness increased, for even for him the idea of total submersion brought on a sense of panic. But he knew that he belonged here, that the sea had called him to this place for some reason he still didn't quite understand. Perhaps this place held the key to his lost memories. Perhaps he could regain a sense of himself, something that had been somehow lost years and years before. And so he stood firm, waiting, as the waves rose higher and higher, eventually splashing up over his ears and face.
The sea pounded in his ears, and he shivered in his skin as he felt the raw power of the cold waves. Salt stung his eyes as the waves rose even higher, and an awe-struck respect for the strength of the ocean coursed through Shawazu's body. For a second, just a passing second, he thought of turning back. But failure wasn't an option if he was to find out why he had been sent here.
As the water finally lifted his body up, he took a welcome gulp of air before paddling back to shore. The sea was less kind than the gentle rivers he had followed to get here. It was harsher, less forgiving. But it had accepted him, and he was already beginning to love it's wild beauty. This was his new home. This was where he belonged.

Kawena’ula Hui Kaiaka The sand was warm underneath his dark feet as the blue eyes that showed the same shade as the view in front of him lulled as each curl of wave that rolled into the shore. It had been some time since he had come to these shores, washing up with his breathe suffocated under the salty water the sight of his sister nowhere to be found. Kai’s hope in finding her still lingered in soul but so far no luck of seeing her in his sight. Nevertheless he had found a home, a place where for once he felt like he belonged other than next o the side of Nani and he only hoped that one day she would join him here.
The sounds of the rushing water summoned his thoughts back to task at hand the rites. He stepped forward letting the small edges of the foam curl around his feet before taking another step. He wasn’t afraid completing the rites however his did fear the large body of water displayed before. With each ebbing wave the memories of being lost and brought back echoed in the depths of his mind a reminder that something so lovely was just as equally destructive. He didn’t have to go far before he reach the limit of where his soft padded feet could touch the pulling sands beneath, and for what seemed like an eternity he could feel his body floating as a salty wave rolled over him. He couldn’t see with his eyes closed from water but the feeling of being completely submerged was somewhat more frightening then just paddling along the surface. He took a quick breath of air as he could feel the dry air swirling around his face as he broke the surface, the light filling his eyelids. Taking one last look behind him of the endless stretch of blue he paddle towards the shore he could see the various faces, their roars welcoming him into his new home where he belonged.

Pokea regarded the water for a long moment. She wasn't intimidated by the task at hand, but rather wanted a quiet moment to collect herself, to listen to the water as it rolled in waves over the shore. It was peaceful. Calming. Freeing, in many ways. She wanted to be here, and she knew Zi did.
Sometimes Zi got them into trouble, but maybe this time, she had the right idea...
Padding into the water, she felt it moving over her paws, then up her legs, then closer to her belly. She liked the cold of the water's touch, the froth on the edges of the waves. She took her time, always the patient one, and a thought drifted back to her.
Why should she be worried about this? Not that she had been, but still. She was a River Spirit, wasn't she? The idea made her smirk, as she let the waters welcome her, no tension in her form as the waters moved. Her paws couldn't feel the sand any more, but that was the point. For a moment she just let herself float, before almost reluctantly paddling back to the shore line. She sat down in the sand, letting the waters continue to lap at her feet, as she considered what she had just done.
She couldn't help but wonder how her sister would do.

Iara watched the waves rolling in the distance with interest. This was it. The time for her to finally make her move to her new home official. The blue lioness took a sheepish look around the shore where she knew other members of the pride would be watching her.
But she had no worries. Her paws dug into the sand one last time as she looked back one last time. Turning away she padded down the shore and easily walked into the cool waters.
This was the ocean - her home.
Closing her eyes Iara found herself enjoying the cool caress of the rising waves. Knowing that the beauty of the ocean also held a destructive force, the lioness realized she had to be careful as the water started to rise up to her shoulders. Another wave hit nearby and soon enough she was rising with the waters.
But that was okay. Even if she did fail here and the ocean didn't allow her to pass or survive this, Iara was just happy to be in the water. Then the ground beneath her paws was gone.
Letting out a silent laugh of delight Iara found herself slipping beneath the waters. It felt like she was being embraced by the tide! As much as she enjoyed the sensation of being underwater the lioness could feel her throat beginning to burn for air. With several strokes she started towards the sparkling surface.
Breaking free Iara started to swim towards the shore where she would be welcomed into her new home. For she had passed and the ocean had accepted her.

Pumzisha knew they were doing the right thing. This place, this mission, this was what they were meant to be doing. Even if her sister was a little skeptic about it. Why not give things a shot? Wasn't like they were doing anything productive on their own out in those boring rogue lands.
At least here they had more to do.
Moving out into the water, the lioness did her best not to let her natural look of irritation show on her expression. This was a happy time, and while she had issues with the whole 'showing emotion' thing, she could at least fake it for the sake of those who would soon be her pride members. The joy was inside her... she just wasn't very good at letting it out. As she stood there, feeling the tide brushing against her fur over and over, she couldn't help but worry that her sister would somehow much things up. What if she got washed out to sea? Or stepped on something and went running back? Sighing softly, she attempted to clear her mind, just listening to the water until she felt herself shift away from the sand.
It almost felt like she was flying, if you didn't include all the water around her.
Content, she turned, swimming her way back to the shore. For once, she didn't feel the need to get herself dry as quickly as possible, letting the water drip from her fur. Somehow, it felt like she was doing exactly what she had always been meant to do.

Coduim stood on the beach, curious and bright-eyed. He'd come to the shore countless times before, but not really this part. That is, until recently. He'd come across a pride of friendly lions and somewhat tired of the loner-life, he thought joining might just be precisely what he was looking for! He watched other lions go before him into the water's strong and rushing arms, eager for his own turn not only because he loved the feel of the ocean, but because he was looking so forward to becoming a part of the Bahari'mtoto. He had a smile pasted to his face and his tail was held above the sand, but his white toes dug into the sand.
He stepped forward and let the waters rush over his toes, squinting his eyes shut as the cool waves drew him in. He walked out until he could no longer reach the sands, and he paddled out into the deeper water. The green lion bobbed on the ocean like a resting seabird, and those that were nearby looked at the cat with their dark eyes inquisitively. Codium made his way back to the shore, grinning and dripping wet from head to toe, as the crest of a wave had gotten him entirely soaked.
He stood on the beach and sighed, a relaxed sort of breath, and he let the sun's rays, intensified by the water, warm his green coat.

Clea looked back at her travelling companion before turning out to the sea. Even though she had never been around so much water in her life, the more she looked at it, the more she knew this was where she belonged.
With a deep breath and a calming shoulder roll, the large lioness walked into the rising surf with style. It was crisp and cool against the suns heat, sending shivers up her spine. This wasn't...so bad. The further she padded out, the more tense she became. What if it carried her out? The tide pulled back and she gasped. When it came back, it consumed her and for a moment she thought it was over.
Then the lioness kicked up and broke free. She stretched out on her back and paddled with her hind legs, slowly relaxing the longer she stayed in it. She saw the clouds moving lazily above her and imagined herself being one of them.
Once more the waves covered her, but this time Clea was prepared. She bobbed up immediately after and paddled languidly back to shore with a wide smile on her face. The faces of her pride mates, the love of the ocean, the warmth of his smile - it was all she needed to call this place home.
