Age: 16-24ish? Big age leap, but now that I'm thinking on it, I'm wondering what may be the most intelligent age to go with. -- November 1st birthday

Leran is a 16 year old young man that has always been going somewhere. He always had to be better than those around him, those that he could best anyway, and those that he could not best were just things that were meant to be studied and admired until they could be conquered.

As a youth, this played out in every boyish competition there was. Leran was the kid who took all the "who can jump from the highest places, who can run the furthest the fastest, who'll catch and eat the most insects, etc." bets to the extreme. He learned early on the principles that the biggest and craziest individual was the one often to succeed, not always the one that had the greatest skill. So he became outgoing, loud, rambunctious, and always-out-to-best-by-surprise. He figured that the most manly part was the best part to play, and so manly he always strove to be.

As a more serious student growing up, environment and experience taught Leran to lean toward a more academic tilt. Fortunate enough to have parents who cared, Leran always did well in school. That was what was expected of the people he admired most, and so he did it. It wasn't necessarily an enjoyable occupation though---Leran was one of those smart kids who gave teachers grief by also being a class clown. It was the reputation he grew up in, and a niche he fell well into.

Leran's greatest gifts and talents were in completing crazy things and being the bravest the quickest along with a great gift of gab. Leran is linguistically gifted, no more than other linguistically gifted folk, but has had a lot of practice gabbing, and so fairly decent at it, and understanding language. This is not at all contrary to his concrete mindset about the world. Leran likes to dare, he likes to go beyond, he likes to see if the impossible is truly impossible... But he is grounded, very much so, in what the world and life is.

Dealing with things like imps and artifacts that come to life does not come naturally to the boy. Not at all.

The item Leran will eventually come in contact with can vary in a number of ways:

• Can be an old, wooden instrument of some sort. Preferably that which is associated with satyrs or the Pied Piper. Panpies, flutes, or a recorder.
  
• Can be an artist's rendition of something either Panesque or Pied Piperesque, either through painting or shadow box.
  
• Can be a figurine -- Wooden, metal, or porcelain.
  

Unless I am asked to specify, I'm not too particular on what exactly the item is. I think it would be very neat for it to either be wooden and old-fashioned or much like the header image here, metallic and a much more modern form of art. Anything that looks like it came out of the 1900s would likely be too uncool for Leran to be attracted to.

Appearance Basics

• Hair: Unkempt, Chestnut color that possibly prematures to silver/gray/white
  
• Clothing Style: Upper: Arion will always be set for practicality and will never take an interest in wearing clothing or taking care of that which he wears--Pied in the story of the Pied Piper means clothing sewn together from scraps--As a young'un, he will have the most difficulty, but as he ages, he will gain a sort of sophistication in wearing practical-yet-decent clothing.
  
• Clothing Style: Lower: As for legs--fur and hooves are practical for anything.
  
• Possible Accessories: He very well may gain a liking for jewelry as he ages, but not so much as a youth. He will learn early on that sacks or utility belts are awesome to keep around so he'll always have ways to keep the trinkets---largely musically related somehow---that he finds and stores.
  
• Definite Accessory: Arion will either come with or become attracted to an old style instrument of some sort. Pan pipe, flute, recorder. Wooden. This will become a "pet" of sorts.
  

Projected Personality: (Very possible to change, this is a basic idea, but I do mean it when I say his personality will end up being circumstance based in the long run.)

Arion is an odd sort of mix between go-with-the-flow and cantankerous. He is generous with children and courteous enough to strangers, but quickly categorizes a person and treats that individual accordingly. Category changes only occur with changes of status or in odd moments of mental spring-cleaning. Still, he follows old rules of gentlemanly etiquette and politeness-most of the time-just barely--Well, unless he holds a grudge. Goodness knows he has a fair many of them and sometimes it seems hardly comprehensible as to where they've come from, or what he will put up with without gaining one.

He can be something of a story-teller, in a moment of creative inspiration. In general serious conversation though, Arion can become taciturn and blunt. He would be the ridiculously honest sort as old etiquette demands, but unfortunately honesty is easily discarded if it hurts his interests, or his friends' interest, or delicate sensitivities.

Not that it entirely matters, Arion is easily distracted and scattered. He can hear part of this conversation, but suddenly get distracted with a swell of sound from somewhere, or possibly from his "Elden" speaking with him. Hmm... His little pet flute there talks to him. So he says. Arion might be a bit touched in the mental facilities. He insists this isn't the case though, and can pull a pretty convincing act. Who knows? He's a satyr. He hears things. It could be possible something is speaking to him at least part of the time he blames his inanimate pet object.

Funny how someone who enjoys music so much and becomes lost in it so quickly refuses to play that pet object 99% of the time. He always pulls out some other instrument out of that bag of his. Perhaps not so funny, should a person know his history, but it isn't as if he doesn't want to. Anyone can see those loving strokes and those wistful looks he gives the thing...

Dear ones who love consistency and sanity, you just may not get along with Arion, despite his momentary bouts of behaving as if he loves the same.
