User Image Valetudo'Sero had found a perfect spot to work, a rocky valley type place. It might have been an old human quarry because while there was quite a bit of stone and dirt spread on the ground it was oddly flat and level. There was a rock/dirt wall on one end with a large stone protruding at just the right height for Val to use as a table as well as nooks and crannies that held her materials quite well. Rocks and plant life made up the rest of the valley which was useful since she used the rocks to prepare her mixes. The best part of this work space was that it was only a short distance from her den where her cubs and De were.

The day was warm with little breeze which fit Val just fine since she had various herbs laid out to dry with various stones to weight them down. The green goddess was siting in front of her work table with a conundrum. She had a plant that worked fine in poultices, salves, compresses, and even tisanes but it always had to be fresh. Once it was dry it seemed to lose it's potency and it was not all that easy to get fresh. Luckily she rarely needed it or she would have a serious problem rather then a riddle.

User Image Fleance trotted across the plains, glancing back in the direction of his familiar and family, as he'd left his three cubs in the care of Yoshiteru for a brief time, and it made him uneasy, but the half-mortals were gifted and hopefully would be fine. A slight breeze ruffled his mane, and he sneezed a little, spreading ash onto the wind, and there was those ashen paw prints left in his wake. His tail dragged through them, growing darker and dirtier as he passed on.

The strong scent of herbs and grasses caught his attention, and he turned his attention to the source, a dimple in the earth, or rather a valley and he wandered towards the edge, taking his time and peering over curiously. He was more than surprised when he saw the large, green body of a goddess, and the adolescent shirked back, worried if he'd been spotted. Fleance casually tried to back away, but he still wondered about what sorts of things an immortal would occupy themselves with in such a place.

Val walked away from her small work space to begin to pace back and forth in a open space. There had to be a answer, she just knew it. As she was pacing the sent of ash was carried to her on the wind. Fire? She thought as she turn into the wind. "No not strong enough," she concluded out loud, that meant she might have company. 'Hiding' her wings the small immortal, small in the way of gods, raised her voice and called out, "Hello? Who's there?" Maybe who ever it is would have a idea, she thought. It has been known to happen.

Feeling had, Fleance sighed and rolled his eyes, trying to figure out what to do. Should he run? Teleport? Fly? Or suck it up and say hello? Not all gods or goddesses were big and scary. He was living proof of that. So meekly, he walked back, his ears flat against his skull, and he peered over the edge. "Uhm, hello." He stared hard at the female, wondering if he'd been mistaken about her divinity, but he scrutinizing her again, he knew what he'd seen before.

"Uhm- uh- ah... Achoo!" He sneezed black ash into the wind and looking sheepish, he apologized. "Oh, excuse me. Sorry."

Val wasn't entirely sure that there was anyone at the edge of the valley and was about to drop the illusion of her not having wings and going back to work when a gray head peaked over the edge. It was a lion who had stumbled upon her work space. Now glad that she had kept her wings hidden Val smiled at her unexpected guest, "Hello, you can come down and join me if you want."

Val didn't know that her guest was a god just like her. She could only see his head from her angle and he didn't look like a god. It wasn't until he sneezed and accidentally spread ash into the wind that she realized that he was immortal like her. With a wide smile Val dropped her illusion and called out to the other god, "Its quite alright. Come join me."

Fleance started a little bit when the illusion the goddess cast was dropped, and smiling uneasily, he nodded and padded down the path to where the goddess stood. He could faintly smell the fresh scent of plants and grasses. As he came to stand next to her, he smiled and said, "Uhm, hi. I'm Fleance- God of Ashes." Ooh well wasn't he prestigious. He wasn't one for titles, but he was curious about his companion's domain.

Looking at her makeshift table, he wondered, "What're you doing with these?" The god tilted his head and looked at the green goddess.

Val was glad that the god joined her in her small valley. He was completly gray and judging by his size he was not a full grown adult yet. That didn't bother Val any since she enjoyed meeting other gods, first the goddess of gravity now this one, Fleance. "Hello Fleance, I'm Val, Valetudo'Sero - goddess of herb lore."

When he asked what she was doing Val walked over to the table and said "Well I like mixing up medicine and such," she glossed over the whole poisons bit although really she doesn't make them very often, "Right now though I'm trying to figure out how to make this one salve using this dried," Val indicated the herb in question. She made a face at the herb and went on to explain, "You see this herb is really best used fresh but its hard to get so I want to see if their is any way I can use it dried or maybe as a oil or something other then fresh."

After a moment of silence Val realized that she was sort of rambling. Looking up sheepishly she apologized, "Sorry about that, its been really bugging me. So, um, is there something I can help you with?"

Fleance bobbed his head out of respect. "Nice to meet you, Val." He tilted his head as she explained about making medicines. It was rather curious. He didn't have much experience in concocting or healing, and with his powers, he only made plants wilt and turn to ash. He nodded as she explained her problem.

"Oh! I-uhm, it's okay, but I don't know. I'm sort of just wandering at the moment." Mirroring her in a shy smile, his head lowered and his ears went back. "If I'm intruding or interrupting you from your work, I can go..."

"Just wandering? You don't have somewhere you need to go right now do you?" Val didn't want to delay the younger god if he was actually going somewhere. A small thought began to form in her mind, something to do with his god powers, not entirly sure about what she was thinking Val let the idea sit for a bit longer instead she answered Fleance. "No. No, you aren't interrupting. It's always seems to help by bouncing ideas off of others. In fact..." She trailed off as the idea that was forming became clear, "you might just be the one I was looking for."

She turned away from Fleance for a moment to find a small bunch of the troublesome herbs that were already dried as well as a little that were fresh. These she placed in front of her on the table as well as the makings of a simple compress that still needed the herb. Turning to look at the gray god Val asked, "I was wondering if you could help me with a little experiment. If your up for it that is."

Fleance tilted his head to think about it. "...Hmm... Not somewhere I have to be, no. Everything is taken care of at the moment." He watched her with interest as it seemed the gears were turning in her mind. He was sure she wasn't a cruel goddess or plotting anything evil- after all, her domain was of healing (usually). So he was sort of wondering, too what she was thinking.

And she proposed an experiment? He blinked. "Uhm, if you tell me what to do, then sure, I guess. I'd be happy to help." He offered a smile and looked at the herbs she'd eyed. He hadn't the faintest of how he could help, but he'd give it a shot.

She smiled at Fleance when he said that everything was taken care of for the moment, that meant he had the time to help her if he could. Val paused and took stock of all the materials in front of her before adding a few more items.

"Thank you. Now you see these two piles of plants?" Val gestured to the dried and fresh plants. "I'm thinking that you might be able to help me out because the dried herbs are just not working. I hope that maybe...." She trailed off because she just realized that she just assumed that Fleance would be able to do what she wanted. Just because he was the god of ashes did not mean he could ash what ever he wanted, god powers didn't always work that way.

"Um, well I just realized that I kinda assumed something but that doesn't mean its true so, um, can you turn things to ash?" Val stumbled over her question a bit before rushing on, "Because you see I am hoping that by turning the plant to ash I might be able to use it in the salve but i can't really put it in a fire because it would just be mixed in with the wood ash." She consciously stopped herself since she knew she was rambling. What was with her today? She was an adult for gods sake, not to mention a mother and a god in her own right.

Fleance tilted his head but nodded in response when she questioned if he could turn things into ash. He wouldn't go into full detail of what he could and could not transform. For example, living animals were not something he could touch and then make dissolve into an ashen pile. Dead ones however... Well, he could if he wanted to. But involuntarily his footsteps left ashes in their wake, turning all sorts of plants into ash and mixing his domain with dirt.

As for Val's instructions, they made sense to him. Then again, he wasn't much of a scientist. He nodded again.

"Shall I just turn them to ash upon this rock or do you need to move them first? It's an instantaneous process." He looked at her, willing to help and with his paw outreached and above the herbs.

Val mentally sighed in relief. Not only could Fleance do what she hoped he could do but he wasn't annoyed that she presumed he could do it. When he said that it was instantaneous Val had to do a bit of quick thinking, she really hadn't thought that far. "Hold on just one moment." She said as she started to mix a few plants and some water together into a paste in a rock with a shallow dip in it. It was the mix she normally used the fresh plant in to begin with.

Placing the herb on top of it she looked up and smiled at the gray god. "Ready when ever you are." If this worked it would make her life much easier, if it didn't no harm done. Either way she got to experiment with a fellow god, something that didnt happen everyday.

With the plants in the right place, Fleance stepped his two front paws onto the altar and reached out to touch them. They were covered by one of his large, fluffy paws, and when he lifted his foot, only ashes and water remained. He looked over to Val for confirmation that this was done correctly and that he'd been helpful- and he was hopeful that he was.

"Is that what was supposed to happen?"

Val watched in fascination as Fleance placed his paw over her dish. She couldn't see anything or even tell anything was going on so she was surprised when he removed his paw she saw a pile of ash slowly dissolve in the water that was in the dish. "Oh," she said lightly, surprised. Val was thinking that Fleance would just ash the one plant and not them all but this could be even better then what it was before. With a smile and a claw she slowly stirred the ash into the water till it blended into a gray liquid.

"Hum? Well since I wasn't sure what was going to happen I guess so. Any way this should work just fine." She smiled at Fleance. He really did help her out and even if this doesn't work, it would take a bit more experimentation before she could tell, she was still thankful. "Thank you Fleance for your help. Couldn't have done this without you."
