Gods it was hot, these were the kind's of days spirit hated, the same kind that made him thankful of his short haired coat. Though he wish he had somewhere decent to cool off at..a pond..or a pool..Maybe a nice plush den like some of those pets had, though he'd never stoop so low, no never ever, not to the two leggers, never again. Tongue lolling about, head hung low as he panted softly, trotting off into a shady corner by a large dumpster. His feet stung and he hated it, the way this concrete jungle heated up on these days.
Back at the den..it was far to smelly..to cloying and just..uch..There had to be somewhere in this place for a dog to be happy! Just for a few minutes even! His small panting breaths hitched as he caught the sound, not far off of splashing, the sounds of screaming brats and gleeful children..the scent of ice cream and waffle cones. Mnnn now that was where he'd like to be.

If the heat was annoying for the short-haired mutt, it was a literal hell on earth for the husky. His rough, tri-coloured coat had thinned significantly as the weather had begun to thaw from it's wintery 'wonderland', but it was still no match for the heat-wave that met him now. At least part of him was light coloured, the male imagined, ripping furiously at a ruined box. He had seen canines die in this weather, northern-furred with predominantly black or grey. Somewhere in the mountains would be cooler, surrounded by shading trees and crystal, untouched ponds.
But as everything else in the world, two-legged beasts had ruined that too. The rural areas were scarce of any game, the water muddied and trees cut out in acres to build roadways. Now it was a struggle to just stay alive and -for now at least- out of the sun.
The soft click of toenails on asphalt alerted him to the presence of another, coming his way. Setting down the piece of cheese-covered cardboard he'd been working on, Baelus moved from the shadow of the dumpster, letting out a deep bark of warning.

Spirit's small heart skipped a beat at the large menacing bark from the other side of his 'cool' spot. Tail tucking close to his body out of instinct as he swept up onto his paws in a quick worried motion. A light high pitched snarl leaving his lips as he backed away slowly from the dumpster, daring to peek about and glare at rather angry sounding...ah..rather large..other. "Well well forgive me for invading your space!" the slim greyhound snapped in a huff, tilting his head to the side to get a better look at the thick built dog, with such thick fur too, the poor male must be suffering!
"Pfft...someones got quite a temper yes..getting all huffy over a bit of space. Surely you can share cant you? Its such a bad day out..." spirit let out a small dramatic groan at the end of his sentence, just to make the point all that more clear. Obviously if he absolutely had to move he would, he wasn't up for a fight, not with this weather, and not with an opponent that large. No,no no..he was much better at running then fighting if the need arose.

In response to the tinny-sounding snarl from the white dog, who in the light with such a coat was too bright for him to focus on for a moment, Baelus raised his lip. For such a small animal, he had some nerve.
"I hold no objection to company that doesn't startle or enjoy making snide comments." The male replied gruffly, head held in a dominant position. The theatrics this stranger displayed didn't sway the husky into helping him. If anything, it was a deterrent to his cause.
But he was not a mean-spirited dog, at least not for an offense so minuscule as sarcasm, and Baelus licked his muzzle clear of the drool from his panting. "Come under the shade, then. And no trouble. I'd rather not smell you bake in that sun."

"Startle! I do not startle..I was simply surprised is all.." spirit sniffed derisively, a pouting look on his face as he skritched at the pavement beneath his feet, shifting from paw to paw occasionally because of the heat.
His tail held low, managing a slow droopy wag as the larger male mentioned letting him get in a bit of shade. "Hee hee, I imagine I'd smell utterly horrible, not a thing worse out there then cooked dog meat you know!" he chirped excitedly as he dashed back in under the small bit of cover, tongue lolling out the side of his mouth while he paced. Circling a bit before finding a comfortable position to sit in.
"I believe..mayhaps..we've gotten off on the wrong paw? I'm spirit by the way, what are you?" he quirked softly, having to tilt his head back to look up at his larger companion.
