Xiuh watched as his friend the hare jumped in front of him, shooting up above the long reeds and glancing at a nearby lake. "Yes... yes I think that this... oh yes, this should be... Xiuh, I think that this may just be the perfect spot, don't you think?" He asked, landing back in the reeds and glancing at his very large friend. "Near by lake, lots of shelter... perfect place to set up shop!"
The large green lion sighed and sat down, cracking his neck loudly, "Also the perfect place for a trap against you, don't you think my little friend?" He asked, always a lion of few words, but always saying what he meant. Back when he had a job, a good job, he had always been wary of places like this... they seemed perfect, but they were only good for one thing. Predators who wanted a quick meal.
Lucky for Jengo, he had a bodyguard about twice the size of a normal lion.
"You worry too much. Let me take a look around, you spot a predator... just beat them off! Not many creatures pick a fight with someone as big as you buddy!" Jengo smirked, hopping down to the water to take a drink.
"And yet they're always willing to take a bite out of you when I'm not around..." Xiuh mumbled under his breath.
He'd followed the scent of water to a small lake, happy to find a place for some respite from the scorching hot savanna sun. Joka approached the edge of the lake, a relieved smile on his maw as he lowered his head and took a drink. The fluid was refreshing, and he felt a bit of his energy come back once he'd taken his fill. Still, he was much too tired for lunch, so he decided it was about time to take a nap. Upon glancing around, though, he noted that he wasn't alone.
Across the tiny body of water he spotted a very large lion who looked like he could easily beat the cheetah into a mess of golden, bloody pulp. Taking that vivid picture into account, he decided that perhaps approaching said lion was probably not the greatest idea. If he could just walk away without being noticed he might actually live to see tomorrow's sunrise. If not...
"Oh crap." Jengo mumbled as he hopped up once more and managed to spot the cheetah. "Crap... crap crap..." Well, not such a big deal really. Xiuh could probably beat the snot out of the cheetah if it came to that, but Jengo knew for an unfortunate fact that cheetahs were very fast... which meant he could be snapped up and gone before Xiuh ever had a chance to react. "Xiuh! Xiuh we've got a cheetah to the right! TO THE RIGHT!"
Xiuh had seen the cheetah, but he wasn't especially nervous about it. He knew the other creature had seen him, and he wasn't particularily offended by his presence... he was only really worried for Jengo, but the hare wasn't that far. He wouldn't forgive himself if something happened to the timy creature... but there was no real danger.
"Calm down Jengo. You're only making a fuss." He muttered, stretching out a little before dipping down to take a drink, "He won't bother us. We won't bother him. No harm done." Back in the day, it would have been. The principal of the thing would be to kill the cheetah, just for crossing his path.
He didn't miss that life at all.
Too late, the lion noticed him. Since the other wasn't approaching, however, he felt it might be safe to get closer. He was in a pretty cozy spot, no doubt perfect for a nap. It'd been a while since he took a genuinely good nap, after all. Without giving himself a chance to change his mind, he walked toward the lion calmly. It couldn't hurt to ask...he was sure of it.
"Hello there," he called out at a safe distance, just in case. "I don't mean to bother you, but I've been looking for a good place to take a nap. Do you mind if I take up a little space nearby?"
Jengo hopped up beside his friend, hissing loudly, "Say no! SAY NO! Do you know what that cheetah will do if he catches me? Drag me off kicking and screaming into the night and I'll be dead and gone!"
"Yes, yes, and my life will be all the more peaceful for it." Xiuh sighed, lightly cuffing the much smaller creature over the back of the head, "You there... it should be fine, as long as you don't bother me and my little friend here, we won't bother you." He promised with a sharp nod.
It was actually nice, to see a little creature like the cheetah... he was getting far to used to being alone with the hare and his nonsensical chatter. Though he did like Jengo, surely enough. No doubt the hare had changed his life for the better. But he missed... other creatures. Predators like himself, sometimes. Even when they might betray him.
