:: You know that movie with Freddy Krueger? I think it was Nightmare on Elm Stree (must watch the whole movie someday.. 3nodding ). I forgot how it goes..but doesn't Freddy kill his "children" in their dreams? And then the only way they can prevent dying is to wake up..I remember a girl turning on a gas stove and burning herself so she could wake up..or something sweatdrop (Please correct me if I'm wrong with any of these) And so it got me thinking, can really really bad nightmares kill you? Can they be so horrific, either filled with monsters or something that you fear (maybe spiders or something), or something from your past that they could actually kill you? Please keep in mind that I know people die from their sleep, either of old age or a disease of some sort..so nothing from any medical/health issues. ::

I really had scarry nightmares that I woke up from.
It was soo scary thats why I woke up. [Haha basic logic]
I know of people die AFTER sleep. after they had the
nightmares. But I cant remember names >.>

I haven't seen it yet but I plan to, because I just made a speech on Ed Gein, the real inspiration for the movie.
As for dying due to nightmares.. I dunno..
My guess is if for example, a person is being strangled to death
in his dreams, he'd most probably be fighting for breath in reality
and maybe, just maybe, he forgot to take in some oxygen.
Just a theory, though.. neutral

I love my nightmares, honestly. Some of them, I wake up and I'm still afraid for a few minutes or so. There have been a couple where I got hurt in the dream and I was still in pain when I woke up. A dream where I was attacked by something and I had scratches when I woke.
I wouldn't really want to die in my sleep unless it was from a particularly interesting nightmare. I don't want a peaceful death, and my dreams are real enough that I would accept being murdered in one a good death.
As for my phobias...I won't admit them here. I don't know any of you that well, though some of you could ask and I might tell you.

Weird...I had a nightmare just a while ago, that's why I decided to come to Gaia. eek
I dreamt that I was running away from something I couldn't see, but it was really terrible. No matter how hard I ran, it was still behind me, and it didn't get tired.
I do think its possible to die from nightmares if the nightmare was that horrible, or if the person has heart complications or something. 3nodding

As for that strangling to death in the dream thing...
Yeah...that could be possible..although maybe if someone was wearing something around their neck..like a necklace or something..and it gets caught in something and it strangles them..can that START a nightmare?

Maybe in your real life you WERE attacked by something..your cat or something... and then it caused you to have the dream..or it's your fingernails..I dunno sweatdrop

Some of my classmates were even grossed out!

And yeah, I somehow believe in the interpretation of dreams
because it's under the control of our unconciousness (sp?) which is
often times much wiser than our true selves.

ever had post nightmare paralasis (dunno technical term) i have one nightmare that results in it:
Being chained to the wall, the shackles held together by rusty screws that are drove into my wrists. i have several puncture wounds and slashes on my arms neck and body which my blood slowly drips out of resulting in a very slow painfull death. what makes it worse i have to watch the girl i love die in the same way.
man its a bad nightmare and sometimes it takes me 2 hours to get my body to move again afterwards!

i remember hearing about this scientific explanation for it....but that was years ago....it was like say your dreaming your drowning, if you get so scared you wake up you are fine....but if you dont wake up and die in your dream you will slip into a coma cause your brain cant cope, and then you may die.
I guess you could also get so scared you died from like a burst artery or something.....but that would have to be pretty scary!!!

No..I don't think I've gotten PNP...but when I wake up from a nightmare or a really scary dream I open my eyes and then I just stay in the position I woke up in for a couple of minutes, with the nightmare playing in my head..
BTW..your dream was VERY evil. And scary.

I had that kind of nigthmare before... i dont remember much and i cant picture it quite right but i sorta saw myself dead... but it was like... there was like two of me in that nightmare... the dead one and another me staring at myself... and i was about to freak out and run but thank god i woke up... it was 3am... i couldnt go back to sleeep.. and so are the days after that... cuz i was so scared that that i might dream about that nightmare agian... i think it took me about a week to get over it... i coudnt sleep. my mom use to wake up every single night to check on me if was asleep since that happen but that was a long time ago back in 4th grade my mom stop doing that when i was on 5th grade. im not scared of that no more cuz... you know like... you can sorta control your dreams...ehh.. i just dont watch scary movies that much now.. and think of happy stuff... xD
