The sun had risen at long last and was shining off the snow before the snug cavern where Flann lived with her adopted son Tsiyu...or rather, the path outside the cave. Peering out from where she lay on a bed of pine boughs and moss curled up around Tsiyu, the sky was an improbable shade of turquoise, a few ice clouds scudded across the horizon almost indecisively, and she could tell it would be cool and bright. Even though Flann liked mornings and winter, now that she had her strangest and sweetest little surprise of a guest of sorts, she had no real inclination to leave the cave.
Flann had not been initially ecstatic when Sali had left her with Tsiyu in his basket, but she'd come to love him as a son. It was the soft side of her that made her love him, it truly was, and the longer Flann stayed with Tsiyu, the more she came to like foals in general. She just knew that her smoky eyes softened at the presence of Tsiyu, and the thought at once amused, irked, and made her feel happy all over again. In other words, having Tsiyu made her happy, even if she was too crotchety at times to admit her fondness for her "son."
