It was exactly three hours before midnight, and there were still no signs of any youma in the area. Nemesis was, this week, running on low energy - she was straining herself like she had never strained herself before. It was long nights, and a few unexplained school absences (she needed to sleep at SOME point). After this she was going to hibernate for a few weeks. After midnight this would all be over, her not-so friendly competition with Pegasus would have a victor. Nemesis had given herself and the leader of her former team one week to kill as many youma as possible. Whomever killed the most would be declared the victor... but there was so much more to it than that.
If Pegasus could beat Nemesis, Nemesis' faith in the team could be restored, and if Pegasus won it was a guarantee that Nemesis would rejoin the team. Nemesis had given her word, and though her word never usually meant much, she intended to uphold it this time. Part of her believed that Pegasus couldn't beat her, not in a competition like this. Pegasus wasn't strong enough of a senshi, wasn't strong enough of a leader to win. The team she led had lost one member, and was struggling to bring another back. The team she led was small and weak. They hadn't done a thing to further their cause. They would kill a youma, and two more would end up cropping up somewhere in its place.
The team was doing nothing, and that was why Nemesis was going to leave. The team had no direction, and granted, Nemesis as she was now had no direction either, but she believed she was better off on her own than she was on a team that accomplished 'nada'.
It was up to Pegasus, really. Nemesis was judging the team based on its leader, and as Pegasus as the leader, the weight fell onto her shoulders to prove that there was benefit in the team they had all joined.
Nemesis really didn't even know if Pegasus had taken her up on the challenge - she assumed the other girl did. Pegasus seemed to have wanted her back, and that was the reason Nemesis had even set up this game. If Pegasus wanted her back on the team so bad, she'd have to work for it, and boy would Nemesis give her a run for her money. So far she had dusted four youma, the most she ever had in a week. Tonight she was aiming for a fifth to secure her victory.
The gothic-esque senshi climbed to the top of a building, scanning the nearby area for any sign of a youma. Tonight of all nights would be the one where she'd find nothing, <******** is bullshit," she breathed softly. Really, it all was. This team thing was bullshit, this lone senshi thing was bullshit, Pegasus was bullshit, and hell, the Negaverse and all the ******** youma were bullshit too.
And like a miracle, her cursing seemed to stir unnatural life a few blocks away. There was something there, and without further ado Nemesis was heading towards confrontation. This would be her final kill of the week - and her victory.

Not too far away, Sailor Pegasus stood under a streetlight, teal eyes scanning the surrounding area. The clock had just struck nine -- three hours before she met Nemesis in front of Shufflepuck to tally their scores and bring an end to their competition. They had had all week to test their strength and endurance, push themselves to the limit and see who could kill more youma before the week's end. Sleepless nights and hard-fought battles had left Pegasus drained as well, and it showed in her posture and expression as she stood there, as much taking a rest as she was listening, just in case. Tonight would be the night where they would see what the fruits of their labor came to -- if Sailor Nemesis stayed with the senshi team, or they were left with five where seven had been not a few weeks previous.
It was stressful, to say the least. And not only because the rest of the team was counting on her to bring Nemesis back to them. When Charys had left, she had planted the seed of doubt, not only in the rest of the girls' minds, but in her own. In the days that had followed she had doubted herself more than she ever had before, as a leader and as a senshi. Her fears and doubts had only solidified with Nemesis' vocalization of what she had been thinking all along, confirmed when she had threatened to leave. The ultimatum, however, had given her an escape, a way out of this nightmare. This challenge had tested her mentally and physically -- if she could do this, her teammates' faith in her might be restored. And maybe her faith in herself, as well.
A disturbance a few blocks away brought Pegasus' mind back from her thoughts, her eyes snapping in that direction, and she took off, kicking off the cement hard. If it were really a youma, it would be the last kill of the week before she met the Senshi of Decay and see where her fate lay. As it stood, however, it seemed she would see the black and blue-haired senshi much sooner than she had thought.
They arrived at the scene at the same time, each noticing the dark, bear-like monster before their eyes met.
"Get away Nemesis," Pegasus panted, gritting her teeth and giving Nemesis a determined stare. It was obvious she was tired, and not just from the run, but there was no way she was giving up this youma. Not with the deadline so close, and so much at stake.
