Firestone didn't like snow too much. He preferred the water as water, not when it was frozen. It was too cold, and fishing didn't work too well when you couldn't get to the fish.
Shaking his head, he tried to push these thoughts out of his mind. This was his first day as a mentor. He tried to replace his dislike with the excitement he had felt when he was chosen. He had been surprised, but happy at the same time. This was his first apprentice, and as eager as he was to get started, he wanted to be sure that he taught her correctly, just as he was taught.
He walked over to the exit of the camp, and started off towards where they were going to meet.

Moonpaw hurried to where she'd agreed she'd meet her mentor their first morning together. She was definitely excited, despite her serene nature, to be starting her apprenticeship, and she didn't want to miss a moment of it. And running late, even by a minute, as she was now, was not a good first move.
Bounding along, she finally spotted her mentor's burning coat and smiled. Almost there, and about time to explore the world beyond camp! In her eagerness to catch up and make up for lost time, not to mention in her rare excitement to be an apprentice and explore, she overshot her goal and landed in a snow bank. "Ooof," she said, hoisting herself to her snowy paws and turning around to look sheepishly at Firestone with her olive eyes. "Sorry I'm late, Firestone. It won't happen again."

Sitting bear a rock, Firestone purred with a slight bit of laughter at his apprentice's eagerness. He could remember his first day training, and his same attitude towards it that he had. He remembered Moonpaw being a rather quiet graceful kit, but her burst of energy would be good for training.
"It's fine," he told her, flicking a clump of snow off of her leg with his tail. Aside from her tail and eye she blended in with the leaf-bare environment quite well. But blending in didn't matter as much to fishing RiverClan cats as it did to land-hunter like the other three Clans. Which was a good thing, seeing as then he wouldn't blend well at all unless the forest was on fire.
He rose to his feet, "I decided that we should go through some parts of the territory first before starting anything else, so we can head to the river gorge first." He started walking, hoping that she would follow. "You can explore a bit on the way, but don't stray to far."
