So why do EDIT:"a lot of" women think that they're overweight when they are obviously not? It's one of those things that really irks me. Is it a lack of self confidence? Or is it influence from the media that you have to be unnaturally thin? Maybe a combination of both?
Most guys like girls with a little meat on them. And when we try and tell them that they're fine the way they are, the usual response is "whatever, what you think doesn't matter" or something to that effect. So who are they trying to impress?

I love girls with a little meat on em, or a moderate amount even smile I don't like the super thin ones D= and when I tell you that you look fine, you do!

I am a little overweight, but unlike most girls I don't just say I am. I looked at my height/build and I see that i'm about 10lbs overweight, not much I know but I want to be my ideal weight and am going about it by diet and excersize.

Extreme generalizations are uncool.
I weigh 105 pounds. I am skinny as all hell and I'll openly admit it. I've never thought I was fat.

There are a lot of girls out there who think that they're overweight though, when they're definitely not.
The problem is that they see girls my size on TV and think that's what is considered 'ideal' when in fact it's underweight and not always brought by a healthy means.

I think it's a mood/self esteem thing and the angle you look at it. Like sometimes when I sit down I think I look fat, but when I stand or lay on my back I think I look fine.

Lesse, the three women that I've heard complain about their weights.......
My two sisters, Hell and Nich, complain about being too skinny. It's a joke to call them fat.
And Tabi I've also heard comment about her low weight.......

I'm 5'6" and about 200 pounds. I can call myself fat if I want because it's true.

And my boyfriend still thinks I'm beautiful, so blaugh heart

I do hate it when I see twiggy <100lb girls complaining about their "blubber" and stuff like that, though. My friend Rachel used to say that all the time. I guess they're just looking for someone to say "Awww, you're not fatttt!" but I got sick of telling her that. If her self-esteem is so low that she needs that much validation, that's her issue, not mine.

Obese is a bad term, it's definition is that you're 20+lbs overweight. Why do you think that they say 1/3 of Americans are obese?

Society is a big part sure, they put up some women and do the equivalent of saying that that is how women should look. But even though it isn't as outspoken there are a lot of girls who do think they need to gain weight.

My definition of obese is when you sit on a chair and manage to break it just by sitting on it. If they're really that damn fat, then they have a problem.

i think the definition of the word "fat" has been obscured by the stupid media. there are girls that are like the perfect weight and then they watch a movie and want to lose like 10 pounds!

Then you have the wrong definition. Or a poor one, for better words.
It's when you are over the determined healthy weight for your height. For instance, I am 5' 2 1/2" and I should be about 120 - 145 lbs, but I'm not. I weigh more then that. To know if you are overweight or obese, you need to check your BMI which you can look up on the computer at any time.

For myself, I am considered obese. I don't eat a lot but I get no exercise.. ._. Which annoys me. Now I'm not one of them girls that wants to be a size 4 and go to a tanning salon but I would love to be able to get under a 12 again, since anything over 12 isn't all that cute or really hard to find. To be a 12, I'd have to get to about 145 - 160 lbs, if I remember correctly. *looks it up*... Eh, less then 160 but more then 140.

I think the main reason girls think they should be super small is because of the models, the chicks you see in music videos and tons of the skinny girls you see in school that pick or make fun of any girl that's a few sizes bigger then them. After a while, it really can get to you. Then you have all these weight loss commercials and ads, it just starts getting in your brain. You also have clothing, which as I said before, is harder to find or more expensive the bigger you get. Depending on your height, the average female should be under a size 14, at least to a 12. But.. under a 6 is getting into a bad area, again, depending on your HEIGHT.

BMI is a horrible way to find out if you are healthy, all it does is take your weight and height, compare it to how much you should weigh, and then gives you a calculation of how much fat it says you have. This is wrong because it doesn't take into account muscle at all.

No, it's not a horrible way to find out as it gives you an idea. You can't really find out the fat and muscle anyways, unless you go in for a doctor appointment and get some serious tests done. So yes, it is a decent way to find out. Also, it tells you how much you should weigh in a certain chart, giving you a decent stretch, I assume the stretch IS for the muscle weight. Say for instance you are 6 feet tall, for a medium sized frame, you should be between 140 and 160 lbs. If you weigh 200 lbs, there is a fairly large chance you are over weight or obese. Now if you think it is because of muscle, get a doctors appointment and figure it out, but chances are, it's not because of muscle unless you are a serious body builder or something.
