So I'm new to the college cafeteria thing. At this one they have computer screens where you order one item at a time. A receipt is printed out with a number. There is a big screen TV that displays these numbers when the orders are ready.
I ordered a simple veggie burger. A VEGGIE BURGER.
How long do you think that should take? In my experience it takes one minute in the microwave to be cooked from frozen form.
And yet for what ever reason it took them almost an hour.
I went up there to complain, only to find two veggie burgers ready for pick up. My order number was 361. These orders were well in the 400s, and many in the 500s were out and about.
Naturally I was quite frustrated and so I complained to the woman behind the counter. She told me my order had already been put out, and yet I can guarantee I never saw my order displayed on the screen I gazed at every few minutes. She offered me one of the veggie burgers on the counter, but I had already invested too much time in the cafe. I needed to get back to my dorm. I asked her if I could take it with me.
"Are you and RA?" she asked. I did not lie. "No I am not."
She couldn't give me the food. I can understand the need to do this to prevent kids from stocking up on food and abusing the meal plan system, but this situation was different. The cafe made a blunder and I had a meal deducted from my account all the same.
If they had let me take the food with me I could let it go. Accidents happen.
But they didn't, and I am left with the feeling that I had to pay for their mistake.
Although the price wasn't high, or too dramatic, it is still a very frustrating circumstance to be in.
I'll get over it eventually, but for now I must stew in my silent anger.
