Her mother had insisted on Imogen trying to get into Crystal and had been overjoyed when her daughter had won a half-scholarship there. However there were still some bills to pay that her mother was just about able to cover. Imo had quickly learnt she was much more strapped for cash than her most of classmates but it wasn't really that that bugged her. Her phone had been lost in her latest brush with a youma. She couldn’t just go ask her mother for more money for a replacement and she’d not have felt right about it anyway. She’d been grateful for her allowance when she’d been free room n’ boarding at Barren Pines but not now when they were short on money…though if she really thought about it, not then either, since her mother had thought her dead. She couldn't have been the one sending Imo the odd bit of money at Barren Pines. So who knew where her old allowance had really come from…
Anyway. Things were different now and Imogen had decided she’d get herself some funds together herself rather than bother her mother for any more money. And once Imo put her mind to something, she was determined. She’d sorted out a CV, rung up old employers for references and after printing out a stack had hit every place hiring she could find in Destiny City’s answer to the Friday Ad.
Last on her list was the Shufflepuck Café. Imo had never been before so she was pleased to enter it despite it’s slightly dingy and dated interior, because she loved trying new places, and because she was dying for some coffee. Gasping. Her white dress bright in the shady café, the redhead looked about for an employee and for the prices.

"Welcome to Shufflepuck, best coffee in Destiny City or we kick your butt until you say it is."
Mackenzie's voice called out from behind the counter as the bell over the door to the cafe rang, signalling a customer. Of course, that wasn't really the slogan of the old cafe, but anyone who knew the irish girl would know she liked to throw her own twist into things. Especially when it came to work. (See: why she 'left' her old job at Hollystar. That was totally not her fault though.) Double especially when it came to slow work. And while Shufflepuck was a pretty hip place to be, even it had its slow times.
Namely... now.
Turning away from the expresso machine, the redhead heaved a heavy sigh, expecting to see one of the older gentlemen who came in here to play chess with each other. Instead, she paused as she noticed the bright white dress, narrowing her eyes and peering over the counter at Imo. That couldn't be... could it? Mack's expression went from bewildered to thrilled as she realized just who had walked through those doors, folding her arms across the counter as she grinned at her.
"Heeeey, how're you doing sugar?"
What she didn't remember was that Imo would not recognize her as she was at the moment -- namely Mackenzie O'Connell, the regular, completely normal Meadowview student. Imo only knew Gemini Beta. And the two were completely different... or so Imo thought.

"I'm fine honey, how're you?" She quipped back, even though she blinked - actually blinked, Imo tended to emote a lot - at the girl behind the counter.
That'd been an oddly friendly welcome from someone she was sure she didn't know. 'Course Imo was missing a years memory here and she was a coffee lover, but she somehow doubted organ traffickers (yeahright) would let their supposedly dead captives pop out for an expresso. Not that she was complaining mind. Very pretty girl grinning at her here and not a monster in sight (don'tthinkaboutsenshi). She beamed back at her and stepped towards the counter.
Friendly banter, great smelling coffee, cute employee/possible future co-worker...she was so handing in a CV here.

Oops.
She realized her mistake almost immediately, going completely still before regaining composure a second later, continuing to smile amiably at the girl she knew but whom obviously did not know her. It could have been disastrous, had she not realized her mistake, (what if she had told her she was Gemini Beta? Hero might have killed her,) but as it was everything was well and good. Even if Imo noticed, she'd likely never guess the reason why Mackenzie had paused. And that was it, really. Just a pause, a momentary trip in her stride.
Besides, she couldn't just clam up now, not with Imo beaming at her like that.
"Better already, now. Looks like some sunshine," she teased, shifting a bit from where she was resting her elbows on the counter top, green eyes having not once moved from the other girl's, "What can I do you for, Sunshine?"

Oh she didn't have it in her to flirt too hard. She was in that stage of developing a crush on Gemini where she was still half-heartedly denying it but she was never that far from her thoughts. Absolutely pathetic, especially when her main identifying feature that the redhead could remember was the tartan. Her brightness sort of turned down a little, the smile a little less wide, eyes darting away a moment - conviniently to a help wanted sign.
"Do you guys still have that job opening? Because I have a..." She riffled through her bag for her folder of papers quickly for a second before smiling at the girl again. Micky was pretty but alas, Gemini Beta! There, she'd found a copy at last and held it up.
"CV. Or if there's an application I'd happily fill one in."

If Mack seemed disappointed that Imo seemed distracted, she didn't let on, giving her a friendly grin and a wink before straightening, digging below the counter to find an application. "Yep, still open. Seems like this place only keeps people for a little while... or so the owner tells me. Most only stay for a few months before heading on to bigger and better things," she replied, her voice a little muffled. A few moments later, the redhead reappeared, a faded yellow application that you could tell had been white at one point in time in hand. She slid it across the wooden counter towards Imo. "Which is good, you know? And I think the owner doesn't mind... There you are sugar."
Stepping away from the bar to give the other some space and privacy, Mack leaned back against the back counter where they stored everything to prepare the coffee, slipping up onto the counter. And just to make sure she didn't seem overly creepy, she kept her eyes on the window instead of the girl with the pretty ringlets. But after a few moments of silence, the civvie form of Gemini Beta already seemed a little bored, her attention span slipping.
"That looks like a nasty cut..."
Dangerous ground...

After a quick thanks, she got to filling in the information quickly, copying stuff over from her CV. She gave a 'little' (obvious) start when the girl spoke to her again and tilted her arm to see the cut. The burns on her palms from the Imp were fresher, but that cut from the Tooth-Fairy was a shiny new scar and much more obvious. Gawds, she hoped would eventually fade.
"It's not too bad. It's almost gone now."
Imo shrugged at the girl's curiousity and smiled, trying to keep a straight face as she remembered how she'd raged cried sobbed flailed over her assorted cuts, bruises and burns when they were new. You generally didn't meet an assortment of youma without getting your arse kicked and ...okay she'd not reacted with any decorum to her own injuries. Then again, how often did she react to anything with decorum? No wait. Maybe this counted as decorum? Huh, the girl had very pretty eyes...Imo tried not to blush and looked down at her paper again. No, that didn't count as decorum.
"I'm called Imogen by the way. Who're you?" She looked up again after finishing another couple of lines. Smoooooth recovery there Imo.

Mackenzie gave her a polite, albeit private smile, her green eyes still staring at the cut mischievously. "Must have been painful at the time... three weeks ago? No... make that four?" she replied, trying to sound innocent, despite what she was saying. Biting her lower lip a bit, she grinned a little broader, laughing to herself before pushing off of the counter, turning to face the counter to make herself an espresso. "I hope it was an accident, and someone didn't do that to you on purpose. Regardless, it gave you a nice story to tell, right?"
Downing the coffee in one go, she leaned against the counter for a minute, staring at one of the posters that hung behind the machines. Too close to the fire there, Gemini -- it was much too tempting to hint, to see if she could guess the truth. But she couldn't do that. For all she knew, Imogen could be a future negaverse agent, or worse, could be kidnapped by one because she knew her identity. Too risky... Hero would never approve. And she owed it to the Zodiacs to stay under the radar.
Another deep breath, and she turned again, offering her pretty guest a coffee cup.
"Mackenzie. Most call me Mack, Micky or Mackie though." Smiling, she extended her hand to the other redhead, tossing her bangs out of her eyes. "Pleasure to meet you, Imogen."

“Must have been about that, yeah, there was this...long story.” Her puzzlement at Mackenzie's pretty accurate guess at hold old the cut was was as obvious as any other reaction of hers. Eyebrows went up and she blinked at her before glancing down at the cut briefly. It was not accusatory, just surprise.
“And thanks. And likewise, pleasure to meet you ...Mackie” She picked one of the nicknames at random, with an almosty flirty smile. Imogen held out her free hand, that hadn't taken the offered cup, to shake the other girls. She knew no one liked a weak handshake but she didn't shake too firmly. Her palms were still a bit tender from holding a flaming baseball bat and similar to the scar on her arm the skin was in that too-shiny, smooth, bit pink stage. Oh yeah. She must seem like a huge huge klutz. Which she actually was but only maybe twenty percent of the marks on her were from actually klutziness right now. The rest were totally the fault of monsters, so there.
Imo had had too much randomness in her life since waking up after Barren Pines, coming legally (and literally, not that she knew it) 'back from the dead' into a very different Destiny City. A Destiny City where she kept running into monsters and senshi. She now expected everyone to have had just as much randomness in their lives too. Or at least something, if not as much...she had been told that she had extremely bad luck by an actual senshi. But everyone had seen a monster by now or at least knew someone who had (or, the more depressing version, knew someone who turned up dead in mysterious circumstances). Which was kind of scary but she'd dwell on the scary aspect more later, when it was dark and the monsters came out to play.
For now she was dwelling on a very pretty pair of green eyes.

Mackenzie couldn't help but smile a little at the choice of name, so familiar, and she wondered if she had met Imo somewhere, once upon a time. In fact, it was an almost disturbing feeling, considering one thing -- she had been in Ireland before Barren Pines. Still, she shook it off easily, as the Gemini Twins often seemed to do so easily, offering a bright look and a gentle squeeze to the redhead's hand.
Boy she liked this girl. It wasn't just that she was cute, although that was certainly part of it, (those tight autumn curls, those bright blue-green eyes, that amazing smile...) There was just something about Imogen that really struck the female half of Gemini. The way she was so upbeat, for one, seemed to especially make Mack smile just that much broader. Her klutzy nature was another that just seemed to make her want to grin at the flustered girl, and then perhaps offer to help her back to her feet.
It was all so... familiar.
Leaning over the front counter, Mackie rested her forearms against the cool granite, lacing her fingers together and giving Imo what she hoped was her most winning smile, those same green eyes staring right back into the other's teal ones.
"So, uh... you wanna go out sometime?"

Ooooh...now that made her pause. Hopefully it came off as coy, rather than slow, because Imo just hit a bit of a dilemma. She bit her lower lip thoughtfully and looked right back at the other girl. Normally she'd have said an enthusiastic yes right off the bat, no questions asked.
But let's face it, she could try ignore it all she liked but she was nursing quite a crush on Gemini. She had no way of knowing that the girl asking her out sometime was kind of the same person. Assuming that Mackie meant a romantic sort of going out sometime, a date, which seemed likely from the flirtiness would it be fair to go out with someone when you had a crush on someone else?
Looking at it logically - having a crush on a senshi was kind of like having a crush on a celebrity you met once but will never meet again, and who doesn't even have a Twitter for you to read. Maybe not a celebrity then. They all seemed to have Twitters. Maybe it was more like seeing someone on a bus in another country and getting along with them really well but when your week's holiday is up and you're back in your own country and have no way to contact the bus...person...thing...
Because then it would be fair. Surely. Only crazy people forego real relationships for daydreaming of strangers they'd never see and/or creating little altars in from of posters of celebrities.
Unless part of the reason she found the offer so attractive was that Mackie reminded her to Gemini. Not in looks, since, tartan was her best visual memory of the senshi. Not that there was anything wrong with the way Mackie looked. See; green eye distraction. But they had the same sort of manner about them. They both had this whole confidence and familiarity thing going on. And pet names. What was with the pet names? Imo was not usually one for exchanging pet names with a stranger but Gemini had pulled it off, and Mackie had too. So help her she found it cute.
And that would be unfair. That'd be using Mackie as some sort of weird Gemini substitute because they were kind of alike, in a way. She did want to get to know her though, she seemed so fun, and since she wanted to get to know Mackie as Mackie that meant the whole Gemini similarities weren't a big deal, right?
This was tricky. Very tricky. At times like this you just had to follow your instincts, y'know? That was her philosophy. So it had to be a -
"Yeah, I'd love to." Imo grinned.
