play this music for massive damage

Greetings, everyone of the Sniper Game. Are you enjoying the party? This is your anniversary, is it not? The fourth, if I am counting correctly. That is quite an accomplishment, to keep playing this game for four years!

...However, I take issue with this game. Isn’t it easy? Isn’t it boring? Every single time, you try and catch a certain killer, based only on clues. But aren’t those clues given to you? You don’t do anything but vote once a day! There isn’t any thinking, just mindlessly following the crowd! What is the fun in that, how could you play that for so many years?!?

So, that is why I am here. I am the medicine to cure this boring game, to restart the cogs in your brain. I will present to you a simple puzzle, to get you all thinking again. Solve the mystery of a grisly series of murders. It should be easy, right? You’ve caught killers so many times before, right? But this isn’t just a game! This is a mystery! I just know you’ll all give up, frustrated by the locked rooms and impossible murders, and beg me to give you the answer! How pathetic!!!

Hmph. You don’t like that? It’s true, so just accept it. Or, do you wish to challenge me? Do you really think you can break through this mystery? Wouldn’t it be easier to accept the fantasy?

If you really think you can solve it, then solve it. All the clues will be there. I’ll be waiting on the other side, and I will surely reward the wise. So don’t disappoint me, okay? I’m counting on you to make this an interesting game.
PostPosted: Sat Jan 30, 2010 3:25 pm

well, I'm not forcing you, but play this now

It seems this may require more explanation. So listen carefully, I’m not repeating this.

To solve the mystery:

I, Fortette Askasa, shall present to you a mystery. You, as the detective, must solve this mystery. Even though there is only one “true” solution, you may come up with a “correct,” but untrue solution. That is fine. However you break through the veil of fantasy will work, and I will reward you.

Oh, but if it was just that, you could solve it anyway you choose, right? Something ridiculous, like “Everyone was killed by small bombs!” I will not accept an answer like that. Or, you could just ignore what I say, the rules that I set. That would just piss me off. So, I shall borrow a set of rules from another game:

When I speak the truth, I will use red.
Everything I speak in red is the truth.

That is a rule of this game. If you try to ignore that the red is the truth, then you are ignoring the rules. And then you might as well not be playing, right?

It would be very easy to win this game using the red. I could just say “The culprit was a witch!” in red, and you’d just have to accept it! But, games where you win against an evenly matched opponent are much more fun, aren’t they? So, I’ll give you a weapon to pierce through the fantasy: blue text.

The blue truth may only be used for theories attempting to explain the mystery, while abiding by the red truth. For example, “The murders were carried out by an invisible, intangible 19th person!” When the blue is used, I am forced to wither counter it in red by the end of the game, or it will be accepted as the truth. “There exists no such person!

So, the game shall play as follows. I will post the mystery. After that, you must come up with theories that explain it without magic. To get to that point, you can think on your own, or ask me questions. You can ask me to say something in red, but I don't have to. When you have a theory (this theory does not have to explain everything, just part of it) you may use the blue. Unless I counter your blue truth in red by the end of the game it will be considered the real truth and you shall win.

Meta Game:

The mystery will presented by posts made by me, Fortette Askasa, and another, Piece Detective. You can think of the posts made by me as a story I'm telling you, while posts by Piece Detective are what "you" see. Piece Detective is for all purposes you. His sight is your sight. You can trust what he sees as you would your own sight. Of course, you do not get to control him. I control all the pieces on the board... sorry if that seems unfair. But there all a lot of you, so work together. Your only opponent is me.

The grand victor of this game, the one who shatters the fantasy completely, will receive 100,000 gold. This is gold straight from me, so be grateful. But, I reward all the wise, and so anyone who solves a part of the mystery, or comes up with especially clever solutions, will receive an appropriate reward.

Well, that should be enough formalities. So then, let us begin!

I hope these are not too tl'dr. Anyways listen to this

The Gaia Community Sniper Game. It was founded by the great Zaeyde, just less than four years ago. A lot of things have happened since then, but it seems like everyone in it has remained close. Yeah, today was the university party, and it would be the first time I saw everyone again after I left six games ago. I’m really excited; I wonder how everyone has changed. Will they even remember me?

...Well, anyways, I’m at the front door. This huge mansion is an auxiliary guild used for parties like this. It’s on a secluded island, and not many even know it exists. It seems like a waste to only use it a couple times a year, but that’s just how it is. Well, here goes...

I open the imposing doors-

“Ah!”

It seems someone was just about to open the door from the inside. Actually, I think I know who it is.

“Hirun, right?”

“Yeah, it’s me. We were expecting you earlier. Did you have problems arriving?”

I was right, it’s Hirun. He is one of the moderators here. It sounds like an impressive title, but it really amounts to a servant of the guild. I remember that his twin brother, Shoy, is also a mod. The look just alike, but the similarities end there. While Hirun is hardworking and obedient, Shoy is lazy and always plays games instead of work.

“Well, there were some delays with the plane, but it wasn’t that bad.”

“Sounds like it must have been annoying. Anyways, everyone else should be in the lounge, or eating in the dining room. I’ll take your luggage to your room for you.”

“Thanks. I’ll tell Shoy to get to work if I see him lounging around.”

I say bye to Hirun, then walk towards the lounge.

The door to the lounge is open, so I just walk in. I’ll try to act casual, and not make everyone-

“Look! He’s here! GET HIM!”

I’m suddenly tackled as soon as I walk in. My head hits the ground pretty hard.

“Owww... Nice to see you too, Ash.”

After pushing Ash off me, I look around the room. I still recognize everyone here – Hatmaster is sipping tea with Bellecat on the couch. Meameaa seems to be molesting Aine, who is sobbing much less than usual, in a corner. Unphotographable is talking to Kashi on the couch opposite Hattie, and Kashi looks ready to kill him. Lastly, Chikorin Moonie and Luna Amatista are chatting with Nymphiedora and Heart Shaped Toastie, two of the mods.

“Hi everyone! It’s good to see you.”

“Yeah, it’s been so long!” “So much has happened since you left. And you’re going to have to tell us what you’ve been up to.” “Hey, don’t get too close to Photo or he’ll-”

It’s the same kind of chatter you would hear at a family reunion. Well, the topics-

“So after she got cut up, WE ATE HER! We didn’t even know at the time! I didn’t think people could taste so good.”

-are a bit stranger. But the mood is the same, possibly even less uncomfortable.

After talking with everyone in the lounge, I went into the dining room. Ah- I know everyone in here too. Ryougi Shurimpu is eating with Roy Salamandra, the resident doctor.

...

Wait, wasn’t Roy a guy before?

“Uh, hey guys... Roy, this is a weird question, but are you-”

“The surgery was a complete success. Anyways, it’s good to see you.”

“Y-yeah, you too. Oh, hi Insom”

Insomnesiac is probably the oldest mod here. She is standing off to the side, ready to respond to anyone’s request.

“You don’t have to be so stiff. How about joining in the fun?”

“I must be ready to serve anyone...”

Well, whatever. Maybe this actually is fun for her? Maybe she is into BDS-
“Oh, there you guys are. Chi, Beru, and I are going to go play games in the computer room. Do you want to join in?”

Shoy suddenly walks in. Yeah, he looks just like his brother, but now he’s going to play video games instead of working...

“Sure, it sounds like fun. Let’s go.”

Roy and Shuri get up, and we all go meet up with Chi and Beru to head to the computer room. Well, Insom stays. I hope she won't be lonely...

if you hadn't caught on by now, my suggestion is to listen to this music as you read

“Hey, what’s this?”

I stop walking as we pass a large portrait.

“Oh right, you weren’t here when Zae had this installed. This is Fortette, the Golden Witch.”

Chi explains it to me, but that seems weird.

“The Golden Witch, Fortette? I thought Fortette was just Fortenra pretending to be a girl?”

“Yeeaahh... but it seems that Zae really believes that she exists. Actually, there are rumors in the Kroo that she rules this island at night. I didn’t believe it, but a lot of strange things have happened at night...”

Shoy elaborates. It seems that he believes in her too, but I don’t buy it.

“Isn’t that weird though? Blaming it on a witch? Couldn’t it just be Fort in a dress, sneaking in at night?”

“No. Fort was permabanned a while after you left. It’s impossible for him to come here. But, I agree with you. There aren’t things like witches or magic. Fortette is just a legend, and when strange things happen it is just customary to say Fortette did it.”

Ah, it seems Beru agrees with me. Yeah, that makes more sense than some weird thing like a witch. But, there is something written under the portrait?

“What’s this...?”

‘My beloved thread, the thousands of posts running through it.
You who seek the Golden Land, follow its path downstream and seek the key.

If you follow the posts downstream, you will find a village.
In the village, look for the game the bird will tell you of.
There sleeps the key to the Golden Land.

He who lays hand upon the key shall travel under the rules below.

At the first twilight, you shall lift up as sacrifice the six chosen by the key.
At the second twilight, the surviving shall tear apart the two who are close.
At the third twilight, the surviving shall praise my honorable name on high.
At the fourth twilight, gouge the head and kill.
At the fifth twilight, gouge the chest and kill.
At the sixth twilight, gouge the stomach and kill.
At the seventh twilight, gouge the knee and kill.
At the eighth twilight, gouge the leg and kill.
At the ninth twilight, the Witch shall be revived and none shall be left alive.
At the tenth twilight, the journey shall end and you should reach the village of gold.

The Witch will praise the wise, and should bestow four treasures.
One shall be, all the gold from the Golden Land.
One shall be, the resurrection of the souls of all the dead.
One shall be, even the resurrection of the lost love.
One shall be, to put the Witch to sleep for all time.

Sleep peacefully, my most beloved witch, Fortette.’

“Ah, that’s the epitaph that Zae put there. It seems to be a riddle to find the gold.”

“The gold?”

“Zaeyde always says that Fortette is the witch who lent her millions of gold. Using this gold, Zae started the Sniper Game. ...Though, that is just what she says. It’s more likely that this riddle is just a way to choose the next Game Master.”

“Right, Zae spends all her time locked in her room. Actually, I haven’t seen her in a long time. It’s overdue that someone new took over as GM.”

The Golden Witch Fortette, and the epitaph under the portrait... that is such a complicated way to choose a new GM. Well, Zae was always an eccentric person.

“Anyways, let’s keep going. I’m anxious to whoop you all at TF2!”

We pass the portrait and head onto the computer room.

...After a lot of Roy completely destroying me at TF2, we take a break.

"Hey, did you see when I shot you and-"

"Don't even talk to me."

Chi said she wanted to get some fresh air outside, and had left a while ago. Beru and Shuri said that they were getting hungry and also left before us.

"It should be getting close to dinner time. Let's head back."

Roy, Shoy, and I shut down the computers and start going back to the dining room.

oh god, why are they all so long. You can just skim this if you want...

Dinner starts about twenty minutes after we get back.

The food seems to be ordered out from Hannibal’s Cafe. After noting that Aine works part time at the cafe, Aine has been forced into a maid costume and is serving us our food.

“...Here is your food...”

“Thanks... Beru, why did you have that costume with you anyways?”

The only answer she gives is a giggle.

Suddenly, Mea gets a stupid face, like she just realized some great truth. She grabs hold of two large rolls and holds them in front of her chest.

“HEY EVERYONE LOOK! My rolls are so big and soft!”

“Aah... your rolls are so nice Mea. Look, they are squishy too... can I taste?”

“Ah, Ash, that feels so good...”

“Wow, my French bread is getting so hard and long...”

...These kinds of innuendos continued for a while. Chi looks like she suddenly remembered something, and interrupts everyone.

“Uuu! I forgot, but I have something to show everyone! It’s from Fortette!”

The previous mood abruptly dies.

“F-fortette? The witch? Are you sure?”

“Uuu~ it was definitely Fortette. She came to me when I was looking at the roses outside, and told me to show everyone this letter.”

She pulls an elegant looking letter from her purse. The letter is decorated with the symbol of the Sniper Game, a crosshair, in gold.

“This is what it says, uuu.

‘I welcome you to this party, members of the Sniper Game. I am serving Zaeyde as the Alchemy counsellor for this guild, and my name is Fortette. I have been serving her as stipulated by a long-lasting contract; but this very day, that contract has been pronounced terminated by Zaeyde. In consequence, from this day on, please acknowledge my resignation as Alchemy counsellor for this guild.’

‘And now, there is one part of the contract that I cannot let go on unexplained to you all. I, Fortette, did lend a vast amount of gold to Zaeyde, under certain terms. Those terms are, that by the termination of the contract, all the gold will be returned to me. And also, that I am entitled to receive everything of the Sniper Game as interest.’

‘Upon hearing this, you will most likely lament at how ruthless Zaeyde could have been. However, Zaeyde did nevertheless add a special clause in order to give you a chance to preserve your wealth and fortune. From the second that clause is fulfilled, I shall lose the right to recover the gold, and interest, for all time.’

‘When the contract is terminated, Fortette is within her rights to recover the gold and interest accumulated. However, should someone discover the afore-mentioned gold, Fortette shall renounce all rights to its recovery for all time.’

‘From now on, the collecting of interest shall take place; however, if but a single person fulfills the special clause, I will give back even the interest that I already took. Furthermore, as the first step of the collecting, I have taken possession of the symbol of inheritance, the Ring of the Captain of the Sniper Guild. I ask you to please confirm this by the wax seal.’

‘As for the cache of the gold, Zaeyde has already edicted it in the epitaph beneath my portrait. Those who are able to read the epitaph shall be equal before me. If you manage to find the gold, I will most certainly give everything back to you. With that, please enjoy to the fullest your battle of wits with Zaeyde. I pray from the bottom of my heart that tonight turns out to be an intellectual, and yet elegant, night.’

――Fortette the Golden”

Everyone was silent for a moment. Then...

“What the hell? This is so wrong!” “It was someone dressed like Fortette, right?!?” “The ring, the ring! Is it real?” “Y-yeah, it matches the wax seal. A crosshair...” “She is going to take the gold? It was real?” “I-if the gold exists, then it should belong to us, right?!”

Everyone was thinking the same thing.

“Who the hell is Fortette?!?”

An hour after the shock Chi gave us at dinner, we went back to the computer room.

“Chi, was it really Fortette that gave it to you?”

“Yeah Beru, she looked just like in the portrait.”

“But, couldn’t it have just been someone dressed like her?”

“Shuri, I told you! It was definitely Fortette!”

...It doesn’t seem like we were going to get anymore answers out of Chi. I don’t really feel like talking about Fortette, though. Without more information we really can’t figure out who she is. Everyone except us, though, had stayed in the dining room and are still arguing about the letter. Hirun is also forcing Shoy to stay there and help them however they can.

There was still one thing that was bothering me, though.

“What exactly... does she mean by interest, ‘everything of the Sniper Game?”
PostPosted: Sat Jan 30, 2010 3:41 pm

it's really not as long as it looks

The argument in the dining room had finally cooled down. After several hours of shouting, no progress was made, and they finally gave up for now. Aine and Kashi went back to the lounge and were watching T.V. All the mods except Insom were doing various tasks around the mansion. And back in the dining room...

“Hey, hey, these meat balls are so... uh...”

“Huh, you can’t think of anything... I think... I think you need more beer...”

“Screw beer... Insom, get me some vodka...”

“Of course. Do you want more wine, Luna?”

“Yes please...”

Hattie, Photo, Ash, Luna, and Mea were getting completely wasted. Insom obediently served them as much alcohol as they wanted.

“Is... is it just me, or is the room, uh, glowing?”

“Dude... glowing? You are so drunk... you’re seeing things...”

“No... Photo is right. The room is glowing......”

Indeed, the dining room had become engulfed with a golden glimmer. Golden butterflies had appeared in the room, and were fluttering around its perimeter. Many of the butterflies gathered at the end of the table, forming a solid mass.

“Heeellooooooooo, Sniper Gamers!”

In a flash of gold, a person had appeared where the butterflies had gathered.

“I am the Golden Witch, Fortette. You got my letter, am I right?”

“Uh, yeah... we gut the um, letter. It said something like...”

“Yes, yes. We all know the contents of the letter, so then you should know why I have appeared before you, right?”

“...Sex?”

“What the... No, you idiot. I’m here to collect the interest! All of the Sniper Game! Your lives!”

Now, two more figures appeared to both sides of the witch.

“These are my loyal servants. You should be familiar with them; The Sniper and the Crazed Killer!”

“Hey, this Fortette chick is pretty hot...”

“...These are the killers that have plagued you for so long. They have killed thousands and thousands of times, and have become the greastest of-“

“Okay, no, I got it. My meat balls are so big and uh, meaty...”

...Just kill them.

“Yes, your highness!”

The Sniper, master of all firearms, pulled out a .44 Magnum revolver. An intricate design was engraved on gun’s barrel in gold. As soon as he pulled the revolver out, he fired a shot.

*BLAM*

The one sitting closest, Luna, must have died instantly. The bullet pierced her skull, and completely destroyed the left side of her head.

“What...”

*BLAM* *BLAM*

Photo’s head exploded first. Before the drops of blood even reached the ground, The Sniper shot again, killing Ash.

*BLAM* *BLAM*

The bullets from that gun were magically enhanced. The revolver had been custom built to shoot down God’s angels. So, against humans, it was a certain kill. The left side of Hatmaster’s face was destroyed when the bullet smashed his skull. The shattered fragments of bone and blood had just long enough to splash against Mea’s face before the same happened to her.

It all happened so fast, Insom had yet to react. Only a demon could possibly kill this fast.

“... Five shots, five kills. I have one bullet in the chamber now. If I somehow miss, you might actually survive. Well, are you feeling lucky, girl?”

“I-”

*BLAM*

“Boom. Headshot.”

“*cackle*cackle*cackle* Excellent job, my servant. Now, let’s move these corpses, this place has become quite a mess!”

Fortette waved her parasol. Holes opened up under the remains of the people who were enjoying themselves only a minute ago. The bodies were swallowed up by the abyss, to appear somewhere else.

“Hmm, let’s leave the blood where it is. That will sure give the rest of the fools a shock!!! *cackle*cackle*cackle*”

why do I keep writing so much

How fast had he ran? After seeing that scene... he needed to get others as soon as possible.

“Hmm? Hirun, it’s early. What’s the problem?”

I address the man that had been pounding on my door.

“The... jail, they’re, they’re all... ah...”

“You’re out of breath... calm down.”

“In... in the prison. They’re all... dead...”

“D-dead? What? Who?”

“Hatmaster, Photo, Ash, Luna, Mea, Insom... they are all dead. In the prison.”

“W...what, are you talking about...?”

By now, Roy, Shuri, and Chi had gotten up too.

“What did you say? They’re dead?”

“They are... arg, just follow me!”

“Wait, we should get Beru! Her room is in the next hallway...”

I... don’t really understand what was happening. But it sounds like right now it would be best if we all stuck together. We quickly move to Beru’s room.

“Beru, are you awake? We need you to come out, now...”

There is no response. After banging on the door without luck,

“Hirun, you have keys, right? Can you open the door?”

“...Yes, but that won’t be necessary.”

Ah. Bellecat was now coming down the hall towards us. She was walking with Toastie.

“What are you guys doing?”

“Ah, that is... ju, just come with us for now!”

Hirun doesn’t even explain the situation to her, and runs off. We don’t have a choice but to follow him...

We arrive at the jail cell. It is a little weird that there is a jail even in this mansion, but I suppose with the nature of the people who come here, such a thing might be useful. But, that is of no importance right now...

“What... the...”

Hirun is even more confused after looking at the jail. Because, on the door, was some kind of huge symbol.

“Is this... a magic circle...?”

Chi is staring at it in confusion too. The... circle, is made of some kind of red liquid. It resembles blood, but it feels like paint...

“No... this is...”

I take a step back and look at the whole thing at once. The lines are distorted, and the “paint” has dripped everywhere, but this could only be one thing...

“... a muffin.”

The ominous magic circle was actually a muffin. It was stupid, but everyone let out a sigh of relief.

“Oh, I see it. Heh, was this what you were so worked up about, Hirun...?”

He just shakes his head, walks up to the door, pulls out a key, and unlocks the door.
The door seems to open of its own will. Like it was waiting to reveal the contents of the jail cell.

Inside, are six figures. The left side of their faces are all smashed, but it’s easy to identify them. Laid out before us are the remains of Hatmaster, Photo, Ash, Luna, Mea, and Insom.

We decided to close the prison door and lock it. Then we went to the lounge where Aine and Kashi were, asleep. We woke them up and explained what had happened. We came up with an idea of what had happened.

Hirun had gone to clean the jail at about 8:00 A.M., as was his schedule. There was nothing painted on the door at that time. He unlocked the door, using one of the two jail cell keys; Hirun has one, and Shoy has the other. When he found what was inside he was shocked, but then locked the door again and came to get us. Before this, Beru had woken up and went to the dining room to get a snack. She found the dining room covered in blood, and found Toastie. They decided to go check on everyone else, and then get the mods and clean it up. They then ran into us. We went to the jail, were there was now some kind of painting of a muffin. Aine and Kashi had been in the lounge since last night. They got tired of the argument in the dining room, and left around 9:30 P.M. They fell asleep about an hour later. According to Hirun and Toastie, the mods had all left the dining room at 10:00 P.M., except for Insom. Last night, Shoy had gone to clean the jail cell and 10:30 P.M. Currently, Hirun, Roy, Chi, Shuri, Beru, Aine, and Kashi, were in the lounge. Shoy and Toastie had found Nymphie, and they were now informing Zaedye about what had happened.

That was the situation... but there was something really, really wrong. The jail cell here is special. On the outside, it can be locked and unlocked using one of two keys. But, on the inside, it can be also be locked, and a key is not needed. Shoy and Hirun confirm that they had both keys with them all night. So, for those bodies to get in there, the culprit would have had to get inside the jail cell with the bodies, then lock it again. But, without a key, that couldn’t be possible...?

...There you go. It's a lot to read, but if you skip it you might miss clues, riiight? This is your first mystery. Are you already giving up? This is the easiest problem, but is this already overwhelming? Why don't you just accept my explanation? A witch did it. With my power, I can create and destroy all kinds of closed rooms!

But, I'm sure there are some of you that will struggle before you surrender. Come, show me how intelligent you are. Try to reach the truth, and shatter the fantasy with it!!!

Hirun and Shoy are the same person with a mild, and recognized by all family members, case of Dissociative Identity Disorder.

Theory 1:
Therefore it is possible for a third personality to exist that carried out all of the murders.

Theory 2:
Because Hirun and Shoy are the same person, a person of unknown identity may exist on the island.

Hmm... it would be boring if I had to listen to every one of your idiotic ideas. I don't have forever, so I'll give you some help. Use this red to narrow your thinking and get closer to the truth.

Knox's 1st. It is forbidden for the culprit to be anyone not mentioned in the early part of the story.
Knox's 2nd. It is forbidden for supernatural agencies to be employed as a detective technique.
Knox's 3rd. It is forbidden for hidden passages to exist.
Knox's 4th. It is forbidden for unknown drugs or hard to understand scientific devices to be used.

Knox's 5th. (not included.)
Knox's 6th. It is forbidden for accident or intuition to be employed as a detective technique.
Knox's 7th. It is forbidden for the detective to be the culprit.
Knox's 8th. It is forbidden for the case to be resolved with clues that are not presented.
Knox's 9th. It is permitted for observers to let their own conclusions and interpretations be heard.
Knox's 10th. It is forbidden for a character to disguise themselves as another without any clues.

An interesting theory. However, neither Hirun nor Shoy are responsible for the murder of these 6.

Likewise, there is no such 3rd personality.

So, even if they were the same person, this crime was not committed by them! I think I'll leave the other text alone for now. It's more fun to give you something to form theories on, only to break it a the last minute!

Aha!

You say that there is no one with more than two personalities!

But you word that as if someone does have DID!

So theory: although the murderer was not Hirun or Shoy, the murderer, does, in fact, suffer from multiple personalities.

Even if the murderer has multiple personalities, that does not explain the closed room. How did they get in, and how did they get out?

The culprit did not have either of the prison keys!
