I think it's okay, I'm going to get one when I'm older. Although you would haveto be sure it's what you wanted before you got it, with it being permanent and all.

There's only one verse in the Bible that makes reference to tattooing: Leviticus 19:28. I quote the KJV.
"Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD."
Other versions will translate marks to tattoo. If we went by this one verse alone, this would immediately rule out getting tattoos; however, we need discretion with applying the Old Testament law, since parts of it obviously don't apply for today.
There are those who will defend against the above verse saying that back then, pagans were the only ones that got tattoos. That may be true, but there's another verse we should take into account: 1 Corinthians 6:19. I use the KJV again.
"What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?"
Since our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit, we are to resepct our bodies and not harm them. You may say tattoos themselves do not harm our bodies, and while they directly don't harm us, tattooing one's bodies can increase their risk of diseases such as hepatitis. There are other things as well, but if doing something like tattooing can be potentially dangerous and harmful to our bodies, we should not do it.
So, is it okay to get tattoos or not? I personally say no, just by Leviticus 19:28; but factoring in 1 Corinthians 6:19 and health risks gives a bigger reason why one should not get a tattoo.
I'm not the one to make the ultimate ruling, but based upon the Biblical truths and other facts, one is probably safer not getting a tattoo.

I agree with hot_wheels_turbo_racing, and have one comment. When you get a tattoo, not only are you permanently adorning yourself, but you are somewhat creating an identity. Even if you are not totally the person your symbol portrays, people will judge you by it.
As Christians, we must be aware of our example to those in the fallen world.

i've heard it all. heck, i'v wrestled with it. my ultimate conclusion comes down to this. i'm not convinced that a christian can't be so happy with God, and so eager to show it that a tatoo would be considered a form of worship. other tribes get tatoos for their gods, and i'm not saying that it's right or wrong one way or the other. i think it has to be a God thing. i think tatoos can be used by satan like anything else, bringing pride and selfishness, and other thoughts that are not God's heart. if it's something you really want. talk it over with God, honestly seek him, not us. i'd head compelling arguments on both sides, so for a while i was confused. that is until, i surrendered my will. i told God, if it was bad, that if he told me, i would let it go. interestingly, i want a tatoo, i have gauges, i want a couple of more piercings, but i haven't found the money yet. i like giving, and i always seem to find a better place to put my money than for ink on my wrist.

I think tatoos are cool but I would never get one myself. I don't think we should be marking our bodies in such a way. But I do know some Christians that have tatoos. These may be from before they were saved but I think they still get new ones sometimes. This stituation is kind of like Some Christians being ok with some movies, for example Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings; and others not being ok with them. It's like bbydaeriel said: it's between you and God.

I almost said the same thing.well said.I say no.I also read a version that said not 2 paint yourself with anything. that could mean tatoos and makeup. interresting. confused If you are planning to get a tatoo 1st ask God if it is what He wants you 2 do.

Wow a lot of people said no to tattoos. But anyways my opinion is, and again it's an opinion. They have Christian music worldly music, Christian hang outs, worldly hang outs, Christian holidays wordly holidays. So why not a Christian Tatoo and a worldly tattoo? I am going to get one, one day when I'm old enough...Like a year. Thats a cross that reads "Jesus Saves." But thats not til after I pray about it because I don't want to get something that God has disapproved of. Dispite my opinion it's up to me to obey him if I truely love him.

I always told my girls that I would rather them get pierced, their ears or nose, than get a tatoo since tatoo's are perminate and piercings are temporary.( So what did they do got both, including one who got her toungue pierced.) heart

Emery-kos I'm not inplying any view, but a lot of Christian musicians have tatoos. that doesn't mean they were right in getting tatoos. I disagree with getting tatoos. it's wordly thing, and God wants us to be set apart from the world. that don't mean that we should stop wearing clothes because they wear clothes. we should just do things different. we should keep our temples differently. I think even a tatoo with a cross is not right, for this reason. a child of God has a light that shines that lets people know that they are a child of God. you don't need a tatoo to tell them that. lots of sinners get the same tatoo. so the tatoo has no withstanding. it makes you look more "spiritual", but that's it. just something to impress other people, but it don't impress God. that has been made clear in the beginning with the racing stripes guy (sorry, I don't remember your name.) We are to dress different, talk differently, celebrate our holidays differently, and just live completely different from the world, and be set apart, like God has called us to do. feel me?

We were given free will were we not? I think that lots of tattoos just ruin the body's image, but one or two I think is alright. I, myself, want a dragon on my upper right arm. I'm a fantasy fanatic and love dragons. *Shrug.*
I think that people who cover themselves in tattoos are just ruining their bodies though.
