xxxxThe air was cool with a light hint of sunshine to add spice to a wonderful day. Owners of stores had set up their merchandise to the outside, guiding potential shoppers in with their bright goods. On the far left of the marketplace, a fruit seller had decorated several racks with the organic delights. Apples of red, yellow and green brightly glimmered as they were packed into woven baskets. Lemons and limes sprinkled the air with a sour and fresh tang as they were thrown into bowls. Bananas and pineapples fruited the tongues of children who desired their sweetness. The fruits had pulled shoppers in by the dozen, each frolicking about to collect and pay for the great crops.

xxxxAmongst the group was Kizoku, picking up fruits for his mother. He had protested to the chore of walking downtown to obtain the fruits (considering it was quite a distance). But since the fruit seller was her favorite, he had no other choice but to get the task done. Picking an apple out of the basket, the Kurogama pocky boy inspected it before scowling.

xxxx"Who in their right mind would but this?" he said rather rudely as he flicked a finger to a small but hardly noticeable scar upon the fruit's skin. "It is simply atrocious!"

xxxxPlacing the apple down, Kizoku inspected the other baskets before spying an apple that caught his eye. He reached over slowly but was unable to obtain it as he was too short. Huffing, he stretched himself out farther but failed. Growing mad, Kizoku reached out one more time but came to no avail. This is when the pocky boy threw a fuss. He hopped upon the table and slid himself over to the basket and picked out the apple.

xxxx"Gotcha!" he smiled as he stared at the rascal apple.

xxxxHowever, the table fidgeted as Kizoku turned to get himself off. Blinking, the table fidgeted again and the pocky boy realized that the table was certainly not going to hold his weight. The table creaked and began to bend in the middle. Quickly, Kizoku a mad dash to another table and another and another. Each bent under his weight and flopped, spilling fruit everywhere. The fruit seller gawked at the pocky boy's gestures, raising his fist in anger and chasing after him. Kizoku rushed his pace and ran quicker. Not only was he creating his a mess, he had gotten himself into big trouble.

xxxxMaking a move to another table, the pocky boy lost his step between a bunch of pineapples and a watermelon. He tripped backwards and landed violently onto the pavement before. As he made contact with the ground, he grunted in a long groan, noting that he had bitten his tongue and twisted his leg in a rather odd angle. Above him, he noted too the grocery seller flailing like an angered hen before his sight blurred to black.

Sunlight's first rays near blinded Dinnye, his glasses intensifying the bright light even more. Raising a sleeve covered hand, he sheilded his eyes, slowly letting them adjust to the brightness. Once used to the sun, he let his lips part in wonder.

This was his first time to the marketplace, and in being so, his guardian, Elliot, Was none too far off. Everything was so new to him! The smells of the various edible treats, the different colored items that were up for sale, the sounds of children laughing and adults haggling. It was such an exhilarating experience!!

And yet, that was just the tip of the new things iceberg. Just as he reached out to pick out a round, hard skinned, green fruit that seemed all too familiar to him, there was a huge ruckus further down the market way, and there seemed to be a boy running away from something, a huge mess was laying in his wake.

Dinnye continued to watch as the boy ran more across the table tops, before falling and landing on the pavement with a sickening thud. He couldn't just stand there and watch anymore!! He had to do something to help the boy! His faces bunched up and he grabbed his guardian's sleeve, tugging on it than pointing to the boy.

But.. There wasn't much he could do.. He knew not how the world worked, even though the boy seemed all to familiar to him, though it was hard to tell from this distance.

Elliot, however, had observed the encounter as well, and noticed Dinnye's need for guidance for the matter. He, too, recognized the boy, and went to talk to the fruitseller, settling on a price to pay for the fruit.

Dinnye looked around to see if anyone would help the dark haired boy, but noone seemed to make a move.. How Cruel!! He thought to himself, quickly rushing to the boy's side, and helping to sit him up. He was unconscious... What was he going to do?!

Lost in an abyss of pure darkness, Kizoku struggled between the horizon of conscious and near sleep. Something kept pulling him deeper, drawing him away from sight and life. Suddenly, he felt a gentle touch bring him up to a sitting position and fix him comfortably. At first, Kizoku nearly mouthed "Mom" since he thought his mother had lifted him up. However, he knew better than to think it was his mother . . . she'd give him a good thwack on the head rather than coax him to wake.

The Kurogama Pocky Boy's eyes fluttered open to be greeted with the image of another he did not know. At first, he was ready to fight back and prevent the other from touching him . . . but he was too weak to even flex a finger in protest. The fruit seller was still flapping his hands about at Kizoku and the mess, jabbering with gibberish that not even a genius would be able to decipher.

Dinnye was beginning to panic! What could he do?! He couldn't call out for help, and he didn't want to let the dark haired boy suffer like this!! He moved so that the other was sitting up comfortably, without both of his own hands holding him up, and tried to flag down someone to help..

Most people, however, didn't want to help the accidental trouble maker. No one wanted to be involved in the situation and have the seller yell at them as well!

Elliot was attempting to make peace with the seller.

"I know that he honestly didn't mean to make such a mess!! We'll clean it up, and pay for the damages for him. Will that be enough compensation for you?"

The fruit seller huffed in agreement and nodded towards the deal. He eyed Kizoku again but was glad to have this problem taken cared of.

Kizoku opened his eyes fully and raised his hand to settle the throbbing pain in his temple. That sure was some fall . . ., he thought while musing over the fact he will not be running across fruit tables again. Slowly, he raised himself onto his feet, straying away from the one who had helped him up before. He stumbled slightly before flashing a small smile towards the other.

"T-Thank you kindly for your help." he said towards Dinnye than turned towards Elliot. "And you too . . . thank you. C-Can I repay you somehow?"

For some reason or another, that thump on the head seemed to have opened up a whole new feeling of kindness of Kizoku. That, or the fact he had never met someone who actually ran to assistance before and was surprised at the sudden kindness overall.

"Well, It would be nice if you could assist us in picking up all this fruit." Elliot was the first to respond to Kizoku, where as Dinnye was still baffled by it all.

This was the boy who read stories to him when he was still just a little pocky stick.. But.. Then Suddenly the boy left him.. And he was alone for all except for his father... the boy, who's name he didn't remember, had forgotten him..

This made bitterness swell up in Dinnye's chest, his heart beating in a quickened, upset pace. It slowly died down when said thank you. A Bright blush dusted his cheeks, then quickly shook his head, looking away. He bright his sleeve covered hands up to his chest, holding them in a nervous manner.

"Dinnye." He straightened up quickly as his father addressed him. "Take this young boy and go get a wagon or such, so we can take the fruit back home."

Take it ALL home? What were they going to do with it all? Well, he supposed that they could give it to the chefs in the kitchen and have a bunch of pies, jams, ect. made..

Kizoku gave a light nod to the older man and turned towards Dinnye.

"So uh . . . ?" Kizoku began, unsure of exactly what to say.

His head still fizzed with dizziness, but after instructions were given, he promptly fixed himself straight and turned.

"So, wagon . . . " he began again. "Where, uh . . . exactly is it? And . . . are you and your . . . guardian planning to take all of it to your . . . home? I mean, it is quite a lot of fruit . . . What could you possibly do with it all? Unless . . . you own quite a herd of domesticated and/or farm animals to feed . . ."

Dinnye fidgeted around in place. Ooh...! What a hard place he was in.. Luckily, not too long ago, he was taught how to write, so he pulled out a white board like object out of the satchel he was carring and began to write.

We will probably use most to feed our horses and sheep, but then we'll also make lots of jams and jellies to keep for a later time.. If that makes any sense.. By the way.. My name is Dinnye! What is yours..? Sure, he knew the boys name, but.. The other didn't know that..

Kizoku's grey eyes glided over the handwritten text and he held himself back a bit. His mind was greatly trying to register the sudden news.

Dinnye? DINNYE? What?!

Had he known, he would have been much more friendly, more open, more kind! Kizoku had known the male once when he was stuck in the form of a stick treat. But now, he stood unmade as a boy within flesh. Such news indeed!

Feeling great Dread followed by its counterpart Trepidation, Kizoku rubbed the back of his neck.

"Kizoku." he replied meekly, granting the other a bow of extreme benevolence (and hidden apology). "My name is Kizoku. It is a pleasure to meet you again, dearest Dinnye."

He remembered!! He really remembered! What a sweet and endearing surprise to his newly beating heart!

Dinnye's sun-kissed skin flushed a light pink, as his dear friend bowwed to him, and he waved his hands rapidly infront of him, shaking his head.

It took a few moments for him to collect his thoughts, but when he did, he took to his board again, his eyes cast down in shyness, feeling a bit.. Akward around his friend.

Do you remember me..? You read to me and held me when I was just a piece of baked good..?

"How could I not remember a dear friend?" questioned Kizoku with a small smile. "I've created endearing memories with you, I will never forget."

Blushing somewhat, the pocky boy spun around to hide his face. Yes, he inadvertently added a risque charm to his words to make them seem almost flattering. He even surprised himself with such talk!

Inhaling to calm his subjected bosom, Kizoku lead himself onwards with his arms strapped behind his back.

"Well . . . " he lead on. "Let's go get that job done, yes?"

A dear friend... Endearing memories..? Dinnye didn't quite understand, for he was still new to this world, yet his heart seemed to know just exactly what was going on.

Such fond memories... I'm glad that the earliest things I can remember is being by your side.. He wrote that, though it only remained on the board for a mere moment, before he swiftly erased it, embarrassed that he had written such a statement. Granted, it was the truth, but there are just some things that one should keep to themselves... Right?

Dinnye nodded in response to Kizoku's suggestion, placing his board back into his bag. No written words were needed between them at the moment...

This is but simple adoration, yes? Natural sensitivity towards another brought on by nature's way of companionship, yes?

Kizoku's soul was still that of a bitter, old man yelling at young'uns to get off his lawn. However, another side of Kizoku (possibly the door of his heart that was always kept locked), was shown when around Dinnye. It was interesting, to say the least, of how great an influence the other Pocky Boy had been on Kizoku come their length of time within the company of each other.

Picking up an armful of fruit, he searched aimlessly around before pulling up a cart that seemed unattended.

"This shall do, yes?" asked Kizoku with a small tilt of his head.

Although the world seemed such an infinitely large place to Dinnye, it all seemed to focus solely on Kizoku. All he saw was Kizoku.. And All he wanted to see was Kizoku.. It was a thought that baffled him to no end. He had never felt such a feeling, like a rope was slowly being tied around his heart. What was this feeling.. What was this sensation of hesitation with each of his actions. He felt that the whole world was watching him, though he only worried about how his partner felt.

With an invisible shake of his head, he banished such thoughts for the time being, and picked up a few pieces of fruit.

He laughed to himself, for as he reached out, he realized in his arms, he only held melons. Honeydew, cantaloupe, and the like. He supposed he felt a bit of kinship with them. He turned to Kizoku, smiling and holding them up, letting out a hearty, but silent laugh.

Manual labor was never the Kurogama Pocky boy's strong point, yet he managed to clean up a great bit of the fruit he had stumbled upon. Each armful spilled the contents he held rather carelessly into the cart, only taking note that the mess should be cleaned up first and the well being of the fruits come second. Some of them would be bruised, but quantity over quality, yes?

Sighing and wiping his forehead, Kizoku ultimately decided that his portion of the job was finished. He waited silently by the cart for any notion they were ready to get the fruit of out there. Of course, such a moment of patience could not be taken without him slouching against the cart in complete carelessness again.
