The sky was covered with dark, wool-gray clouds, the crisp air hinting at the promise of snow to fall later that evening. Carter stood before Meadowview High School, staring as if it was staring back. He was surprised he had found it – then again, it was difficult to not find. He leaned against the chain-linked fence that separated it from the rest of the city, curling his fingers around the links as he stared at the graffiti decorating the school.

Tomorrow he would go in there and fill out his papers, then attend his first day of class.

He wondered if it would be like his old school (granted that one wasn't fenced off and he knew people there): shoved to the back of the classroom, forgotten except for his hair. He loved his hair, even if other students usually preferred to stare at it than the teacher – oops.

Carter froze as the bell tiredly rang, followed by a flood of students gossiping and chatting as they left. Some stopped to stare at him, others ignored him, and others whispered behind their hands. New meat? Likely, but Carter quickly unlaced his hands and leaned against the fence. If he could just wait the rush out, he could probably slip inside and get his paper work sorted early... that is, unless the school staff fled the campus just as fast as the students.

Passing through the doors of the school, Natasha breathed a sigh of relief. Having, somehow, managed to pass her algebra exam by the skin of her a** (or the will of whatever God was out there, lucky her), she was more than grateful to get the hell out of dodge. Stretching towards the sky, she waved at Jeanette. Jeanette was sort of this girl who was in almost every one of Nat's classes. They usually sat next to one another, so it had occurred to Natasha, at some point, that they should be friends.

So far so good. Though Jeanette certainly had far better grades than Natasha did. Until it came to gym class. She had that going for her, if nothing else. Her parents, however, didn't always tend to see it in that light.

"Didja pass Natty?"

"Yeah, kinda. It was enough. How 'bout you?"

"Not bad, got an 93 percent."

"Not bad?! That's pretty awesome if you ask me. Though, then again, look who I'm talking to." the purple haired girl plodded down the steps out of the school, her tongue promptly waving in Jeanette's direction.

"Yes well, if I want to get a decent scholorship program, it just won't do. I'll simply have to pick it up next time. Anyways Natty, I'll see you tomorrow. Try to stay out of trouble until then, hmm?" Jeanette smiled while Nat rolled her eyes. As Jeanette moved out of sight, heading in the other direction Natasha yawned and yanked her scarf around her face a little bit tighter than it was already sitting. She wasn't a real fan of cold temperatures. Summer was only so many months away. She couldn't wait. Turning as she headed out the gate her eyes were greeted by, well, a pretty unique looking hair colour. Attached to this hair was a darker complexion boy. He looked like he was trying to ignore the stares and giggles that were running loose like oily wildfire through the sea of students. Not one to be shy and gossip with others, Natasha just took the direct approach, walking up to the boy, and promptly letting her own back drop against the fence, her backpack cushioned it nicely so.

"You know, if you'd been about 15 minutes later, you wouldn't be having this problem." she mused aloud. "Or maybe you like the attention, either way. I'm Natasha, but Nat will do. You are?"

There wasn't anything wrong with waiting, he discovered. Despite the fact that it was winter, the girls at Meadowview still looked nice in their bright orange uniforms. He couldn't help but to follow a few of them, switching his gaze from one to another, trying not to linger. As nice it as it would be to look at certain parts of the female anatomy.... Well, getting known as the "perv" before his first day wouldn't help him much. Nor would getting into a fight, if the talk of a boarding school for "troubled teens" was true.

As Natasha approached and took a place next to him, he glanced and grinned. "Problem? What do you mean?" He asked, turning to face her with a grin. "I dunno, I find it pretty nice... I'm Carter, but Carter will do just as fine."

"Nice to meetcha Carter." Nat shifted the weight of her backpack, she wasn't terribly used to this one. She'd somehow managed a pretty massive tear in her side bag. This was a temporary fix, of course, but what a hassle. Not to mention she felt like she should be marching, wearing the damn thing, with some loud mouth drill sergeant barking orders.

How appropriate for school, however.

"As for your problem, obviously it doesn't bother ya, so whatever." she shrugged her newly comfortable shoulders, looking off as the mass of students slowly began to trickle away.

"Anyways, I haven't seen you around here before, and sorry to say but you're pretty noticeable. You go here or are you just hanging down from Hillworth?"

At Natasha's movement, Carter looked closely at his backpack and winced. It didn't look too comfortable that high on her back, nor was it very flattering. He personally preferred a messenger bag, as a regular backpack was too heavy in the back area for his liking. Granted, a backpack had the added cushion of protecting your back when a skateboard tries to run out from under you, but the novelty wears off when your teachers make you haul your textbooks home. That poor skateboard's nose was a wreck because of that particular incident and the amount of times it crashed into walls the last time he tried it!

"Thanks! I'll take that as a compliment," he beamed. "If the weather was nicer I wouldn't be standing here, but..." The boy shrugged, "But what can you do, really? The snow's not thick enough to really do anything, and it looks like most of the snow was already used in a snowball fight some time ago."

"But nevertheless... Nah. I just moved in yesterday. 'm waiting for the rush to get over so I can pick up my uniform for tomorrow and get all that stuff sorted out of the way. Meet the teachers if they're still here, find my locker, get to know my textbooks... the usual drill." He pulled a face at the last item, clearly not looking forward to the books.

"Yeah, you missed the great snowball fight of Monday. Snowed all Sunday so it was pretty crazy here first thing the next day." She paused, thinking about it, "It was pretty awesome actually. Nothing like clocking random people as they try to dodge through the battlefield." she turned her head to look as her school mates were all but gone from the entrance. Some were still hanging around, chatting with one another, but for the most part they had dispersed.

"From out of town hmm? Nice. Kind of an awful time to get moved, middle of the school year, but whatever. I can show you where you need to go, if you'd like, I guess. I don't have to be anywhere anytime soon." no harm in helping out the new guy. Nothing worse than trying to find your way around an unfamiliar school.

Hell it was a pain in the a** enough as it was when you knew the damn thing. Besides, she could shove a couple more books into her locker, homework be damned. Stupid bag weighed a ton. She looked back at Carter, noting the disdain on his face at the idea of his own textbooks.

"Not really the scholarly type, I take it."

Upon hearing that, Carter sighed and looked disappointed. "Man, of all the times to move, it'd have to be too late... Oh well, maybe it'll snow again later!" He threw a hopeful look up towards the clouds, stared, then dropped his gaze upon realizing that he had no idea how to tell snow clouds from regular clouds. Or even what snow-clouds looked like in general.

He winced, then shrugged. "Yeah, tell me about the timing," he groaned, "Moving from a place with no snow to a place that has lots of it? Cold. Middle of the schoolyear? Interesting. Moving in time to miss a snowball fight? Huge bummer!"

He stood away from the fence and grinned broadly, "Whatever gave you that idea?" Carter asked, shoving his hands into his pockets. Let's see, a snug-looking dark green jacket complete with the bottom-loop of a wallet chain hanging out from under it, hooked to a pair of pants that were black with a faded skull emblem and pockets... Yep. Either he was a colorful goth or skater, or one of those strange artistic types that refused to conform to a group while maintaining an all-black wardrobe. Hm.

"I think I need to go to... um..." Carter pulled out a folded square of paper from his pocket, unfolding it. "The... main office? I need to pick up my uniform, locker, and anything else that you guys have here."
PostPosted: Thu Feb 04, 2010 9:37 am

"Where did ya live before here that it was warm? And what would ever possess your family to LEAVE said warmth?" Natasha shivered a bit, for show.

"Main office? Yeah I can show ya that." she thrust her hands back against the fence, pushing herself away from it. Adjusting her backpack once more (what a pain in the a**!) she nodded her head in the general direction of the school doors.

"C'mon, time to go get your orange jumpsuit and suffer in prison with the rest of us." she grinned, chiding the boy a bit.

Carter shrugged. "Here and there -- I've lived in several places before finally moving here. My parents kept getting moved around thanks to their job, though hopefully their final bid'll be here. Moving's not too bad, but when you do it enough..." He laughed, "It was pretty interesting! Besides, it's been awhile since I've been in a place with snow."

He moved towards the building with her, stopping to stare at her chiding. "O-orange? You mean you guys wear that all year around? That bright orange, that everyone was wearing?"

The boy then did something that Natasha was probably not expecting.

"Yesssss! I LOVE the color orange! This is awesome!"
PostPosted: Sat Feb 06, 2010 7:26 pm

"Wow, busy life." she chuckled, "Though I really don't think you were missing anything, living in places with no snow."

As they were walking up the stairs, Natasha's body almost spun on a swivel, eying this new boy. Did he... seriously? He did. Looking up at his hair, then looking at the exuberance on his face, then back to his hair, she blinked.

"You... you love orange?" she blanched. It was true, she hadn't been expecting that. Orange didn't generally stand out to her as a colour most boys liked. Or if they did, they really never admitted to it in such a manner. Her brow furrowed and she nearly stared a hole through him, trying to figure this one out.

Carter could very well have been a three-eyed, five-legged toad at this point.

"Yeah! It's a bright color that catches attention," he explained, "And it's... I don't know! Just looking at it makes me feel pumped. It doesn't scream like red, but it's... nice."

He shrugged, then pulled open the door to the school and held it open for her. Carter then caught her expression and tilted his head to one side. "Huh? Did I say something odd or...?"

Natasha stared for one moment longer before shaking her head. His rambling about the colour was momentarily reminiscent of Alex, but his ended one hell of a lot sooner, and actually seemed to land on a point.

Thank God. More than one Alex would be one Alex too many!

"Naw, just, never heard someone describe liking that colour so, yeah. Don't worry about it." She jaunted up passed the boy, and headed into the school. The halls seemed so empty when classes were out. There were a handful of lingerers, no one she really knew, but she recognized some of their faces if nothing else.

"This way, I'm gonna stop at my locker first. Though if you look down that hall, that leads to the gymnasium. Pretty easy to find." she pointed off in the opposite direction of where she seemed to be going. "After locker, I'll show you the office. Sorry to make you wait, but I really don't want to take some of these textbooks out. The homework isn't worth the weight." her nose crinkled up at the thought of homework. It wasn't her particular forte.

"What, you mean people don't like it? Tch!" Carter shook his head, "I mean, yeah no offense or anything not many people look, well, good in it." Carter replied, before realizing he was beginning to tread on Very Dangerous Ground where Females were Concerned. "Buuut knowing schools, uniforms are probably designed with student misery in mind, haha!"

Carter followed the girl and looked in the directions she indicated. The gym, now... That was one thing he had to check out before leaving! "How crowded are the halls usually?" He asked, "And what's the homework like? Would you like me to carry your books for you or...?" In all honesty, he just wanted to see how heavy her books were.
PostPosted: Sun Apr 11, 2010 8:54 pm

"Sure!" since she wasn't in the mood to carry her books anyway, and he was offering to carry them, why the hell not? She was taking time out of her day, afterall, to show him the ropes, as it were. She handed the bag over to Carter, letting the full force of the weight hit him. Some of those science and math books could be used as lethal weapons, she had assured herself of this many times over. The idea of using them to bash in youma or negaverse agents had crossed her mind once or twice while trying not to snore in the classes associated with those particular texts.

"Oh, yeah. Turquoise just looks fantastic with orange. You're right, I don't know what I was thinking." the purple haired girl chided the boy, choosing to ignore his commentary on how others would be able to pull it off or not. Too easy to take that as an insult, and she didn't feel like wasting the breath.

"The halls can get pretty crowded here. Especially on the way out for the day, and between classes. Usually I try to carry books for half a day at a time, switch them up at lunch. Saves me trying to fight to get to my locker otherwise." she shrugged, "Hardly worth stopping at break either. Less the class ya got is right next to where your locker ends up being." she turned a corner, pointing out where the biology classroom was, followed shortly by history and geography.

"Here's my locker." she finally stopped, taking a quick moment to fiddle with the lock, twisting in the combo. With a click, she pulled it open.

"Thanks for holding that by the way."

“Nnrgh!” He grunted as the books came into his possession, nearly dropping them. He swung it onto his back and shifted the weight until it was more or less comfortable (it was less). Hopefully there wouldn't be any other guys around to question is masculinity by carrying a feminine backpack. At least it didn't clinker and clatter with an over-assortment of charms that his siblings favored. They served like a warning bell, alerting to everyone HEY HEY I HAVE BLING ON MY BACKPACK LOOKIT IIIIIIT.

It was quite annoying to have the teacher stop in the middle of lecture and stare at you as you nudged said over-charm'd backpack in front of you to break up the monotony of lectures, too.

“I like to think it's faaabulous,” he replied, puffing out his chest and squaring his shoulders before flipping his hair and continuing in a falsetto voice, “It would match my shoes and everything daaahlink.”

He followed her tour with his eyes, nodding to himself and quietly repeating the locations under his breath. Would he remember where everything was? Probably not, but then again he was doomed to wander the hallways with a paper clutched in his hands, trying to match door IDs to his class list. He removed the bag and offered it to her, shamelessly peering inside. “Huh, same size as usual lockers,” he remarked. “I got stuck in one once. The janitor ended up having to break the lock 'cause it turns out it wasn't my locker! Ahh, that was a good day, got to skip a test and everything!”
