Although it was the moon that spoke to her, that made her blood sing, the sun's warmth made Tabitha feel comfortable and warm. She was moving so lazily that she barely paid notice to a young squirrel that ran past her, so close that she could have crushed her beneath a heavy hoof, but why waste the energy one something so small? No; instead, Tabitha was following the smell of a soquili, a scent she had picked up only a minute ago, but she felt not hurry to find the creature. Even so, when the angeni was in eyesight, Tabitha gazed upon her with envy -- the mare had four beautiful wings, an advantage she herself had not been given. No horns, no wings, no fins: Nothing but a body made solely for the ground.

It made her angry. Jealous. She wanted to rip those wings from the mare's shoulders, cursing her to a life in the dirt. "Hello, little mare!" she called out, voice silky as she walked, calmly, approaching the angeni -- it had not been the first time she'd met one of this kind, and she was cautious, even though she knew well enough that the pelt on her back struck fear into the hearts of even the bravest of soquili. "A lovely day out, is it not?" She attempted to keep her voice friendly, to see how close the mare would allow her to get, but her tone was full of sarcasm.

Standing in the clearing, where the sun blazed over head, stood the young angeni mare. Her eyes held joy and bliss, basking in the sunlight. She had always heard from her elders to never venture out during the night, because that's when the most dark, and cruel figures would roam the lands. The young mare then sought comfort in the time of day, basking in the sun and the beauty of nature. She was positive that even in the daytime, the Gods would keep her from harm if they so chose, but she did not simply ignore that it was not impossible. She knew things had to happen for a reason, and living a life where no intermediate danger has harmed her, she had the small sense of invincibility that comes with young age.

Hearing someone call out to her, her gaze turned over to another mare. Her eyes held some kind of confusion seeing the mare wearing some kind of pelt over her shoulders. The mare's brows furrowed together in confusion. She then started to feel sorrow for the animal pelt draped over the mare's shoulders, wondering if it had to die to be worn as a pelt. She mentally shook that thought off, trying to ignore the pelt the mare wore.

Not sensing the sarcasm in the mare's tone, she simply smiled to her. She curtly nodded her head at the mare's greeting, and nodded her head again, agreeing with the lovely day. She tilted her head up, revealing her long, slender long neck to the mare as she gazed up to the wonderful blue skies that was perfect to fly in.

A cruel smile spread across Tabitha's muzzle, and closer she approached, her steps careful so as not to startle the angeni into flight. Her eyes drifted away from the mare's face to the expanse of exposed, delicate throat, and her mouth watered, filled with saliva as she tried to suppress a hungry growl. "Quiet one, are you? No need to be shy with me..." Tabitha was curious; the mare did not seem to be frightened from her appearance. Did she not know what she was? Did she not realize the significance of the dead pelt on her back? Tabitha was going to have fun with this one -- how long could she play with the sweet naive thing before she realized what she was faced with? "You have such beautiful wings. They make me wish I had some of my own... tell me, what is it like in the sky?" Tabitha could only imagine what it was like, to gaze down on the Kawani lands and see all her prey as small as ants beneath her. Helpless. Weak. Oh, it took every ounce of restraint to hold herself back from lunging for the pretty mare's throat, but Tabitha licked her lips eagerly as she tried to wait for just the right moment.

Hearing words come out of the mare's mouth, her attention turned back to her. She tilted her head slightly, and nodded her head. She definitely was a quiet one because she had chosen to be quiet. The mare believed she could enjoy much more out of life without the distraction of noise. Her ears twitched and blinked in response to the mare. She didn't think she was being shy either. Being quiet didn't mean she was shy, did it?

The mare simply smiled at the compliment, and extended her wings out, assuming that the other mare wanted to look at her wings. She listened to the mare carefully, and did not agree with the mare at all. Shouldn't she be happy to have what she has? The gods had gifted her with four working legs, why would she be wishful for her own wings? She owed her thanks to her parents and the gods for her working wings.

'What was it like in the sky?' The mare asked out loud in her head. She didn't think if she were to speak, she could not put to justice the feeling of being in the sky, nor the feeling of going through clouds, or experiencing the weather that is about to transpire while being in the skies. She could not at all. Instead, she simply smiled to the mare with a knowing look that said, 'I can't tell you'.

Tabitha curled her lip, offended at the mare's silence. Was she refusing to answer her? Did she consider her not good enough to know what wonders the sky held? The skinwalker's mind flew to her own conclusions, no matter how innocent the angeni's reaction to her question was. Oh, how she would punish this haughty creature! Closer and closer still she crept, and she began to breathe harder, panting; with each deep inhale, she could smell the flesh of the mare, the blood -- she could not contain herself. Her hunger was too strong to control anymore, the lazy and subdued feeling the sun had cast on her now long gone, and Tabitha reared up before she lunged toward the angeni with a powerful push of her hind legs, saliva dripping from her mouth as she snapped sharp teeth at Aleshanee's spread wings. They did not provide much meat, but the skinwalker knew if she could only damage the mare's wings, it would be easier to keep her to the ground -- and then easier to force her down further and crush her beneath strong hooves.

Aleshanee watched the other mare approach her. Her gray eyes held curiosity as the she drew closer and closer. Her ears caught the sounds of heavy panting. She furrowed her brows at the mare, wondering what she was doing. The mare took a quick moment to assess the situation, then it didn't take the mare too long to realize that things weren't right. Her eyes widened in surprised as she realized what the mare was about to do.

She tensed up, her wings trying to flutter bak to her sides, but it was too late. The pelt-wearing mare sunk her fangs into her wings. Her face contorted in pain, as her mouth open to let out a scream, but no sound came out. Tears started to fall from her sorrowful eyes, her eyes locked on the mare before her. Her other wings folded closely to her sides, in attempts to get away from being ravished.

'No... why?' Her mind cried out to the Heavens.

Her chest beat rapidly. Her mind was frantic. She was trying to think of what to do. Never did she want to harm another, but she needed to save herself too. Her eyes closed for a brief second, in attempts to calm herself. She needed a clear mind to think clearly. Tears still ran down her cheeks, feeling the pain through one of her wings. Hopefully the mare would not break it the bone. Why was the mare doing this?

The skinwalker clenched her jaws together tightly as soon as she felt her teeth scrape across delicate feathers and flesh, and she jerked her head back and forth roughly, stripping away feathers as they caught in her teeth. Tabitha felt a thrill as she felt the wing spasm in her mouth as she refused to let go, the angeni mare's attempts at recoiling only causing her to double her efforts -- her confidence was boosted when she didn't seem intent on fighting back. Oh, how she wished for claws to grab and tear! With clumsy hooves she could not grip the mare's wings to try and pull them off, so instead she thrust forward to barrel her body into Aleshanee, trying to knock her to the ground, finally releasing her grip on the mare's wing.

Aleshanee clenched her jaw together. Her throat tightened, wanting to let out a scream. No! She would not. Her eyes closed, for a moment, trying to take the pain bestowed onto her by the mare. She still couldn't wrap her mind around the idea that she wanted to hurt her.

Breathe was knocked out of her lungs. feeling the impact of the mare launching her body against hers. Her wings flared back out to balance herself. The mare's body refused to fall to the ground. Her gray eyes sought the mare's eyes, hoping she could some how reach to her. Tears continued to stream down her eyes and face, the mare felt so lost, so confused. Her eyes pleaded the mare to stop.

There was little that could be done to convince Tabitha to stop now. She was too far gone, too eager to pick the mare's bones clean until there was nothing left. She redoubled her efforts when she saw Aleshanee remained standing, and Tabitha cursed the stubborn mare before she reared up, kicking out with her front hooves at the angeni; she was determined to smash the mare's wings and leave her helpless. No chance for escape. Once the angeni's spirit and body were broken -- only then would Tabitha sink her fangs into her feast.

Powerful wings flapped up in the sky as Witseidutsei rode the thermals over the forest, enjoying the feeling of wind in her hair and the fluttering of her feathers. She would have preferred a few more clouds in the sky to make it a perfect day, but the heat warming her body and the tops of the trees zooming by underneath her was enough to make her happy. Witseidutsei was a very low maintenance mare; as long as she had her wings and the big open sky, life was good. As her wings took her away from the forest and out into a large clearing, the thermals here made it easier for her to glide across the land, wasting less energy on flapping her wings to stay up in the air. Down below her she could see another winged mare, just like her, and -- she noted with disgust -- a skinwalker. Witseidutsei folded her wings close against her body as she began her dive toward the ground, speeding like a bullet, and she was too fast for Tabitha to react. Flaring her wings back out at the last moment to keep herself from crash landing, Witseidutsei swooped across the field and slammed her body into Tabitha, knocking her clear away from Aleshanee.

Aleshanee tore her eyes away from the pelted mare before her. She didn't want to witness it. Tears continued to stream from her eyes, trying to keep herself up right. What she didn't see was the pelted mare moving in to kick her, and because she didn't brace herself for the impact, she was knocked off balance and her wing was stretched past its wingspan. The mare felt pain run down her wing and down to her spine. Her eyes looked up to the pelted mare once again, peering up to her with saddened eyes and feeling somehow betrayed.

The angeni mare didn't know what to do, and could only wish something would happen that would get her out of this situation. Her ears flicked back, wondering if the Gods really deemed this to be the end of her life. And if it was, she felt utterly sad that it ended on such a note. She never wanted to hurt another, even it meant getting hurt herself. Any other action would go against her own nature.

Feeling a sharp tug, the mare nearly cried out. Her wing was pulled out of its socket, and looked up in surprise to see the pelted mare knocked away from her. Her brows drew together in confusion, then fear, not knowing what to do. She was slightly hyperventilating, staring in shock at the pelted mare before her.

Witseidutsei ignored Aleshanee for the moment as she landed, wanting to make sure the filthy skinwalker was out of the picture before she made sure her fellow angeni wasn't too badly injured. She spread her wings wide about her to give herself the appearance of being larger than she actually was, and thus appearing more threatening. She pawed her hooves into the ground, watching the skinwalker closer, waiting for her to make the next move -- and when she did, Witseidutsei would be ready. "Come at me, skinwalker!" she taunted, tossing her head proudly. "I'll give you a challenge." She was being arrogant, she knew, but she hoped the skinwalker would fall for her bluff. Witseidutsei was a fighter, but she didn't make it a habit of hers to pick fights with the cursed horses.

Tabitha lay on the ground, stunned at the impact that had knocked her there, and when she looked up from her position to see the second angeni challenging her she began to rethink what she was doing. She quickly struggled to stand back up, her teeth bared threateningly at Witseidutsei as she backed away from her, tail flicking in irritation. She could take her on... kill her and then Aleshanee... yes, yes -- it would be so easy! Witseidutsei did not have fangs as she did!

But Witseidutsei was not waiting for Tabitha to stand back up. She lunged for the grounded mare, rearing up, hooves cutting through the air before she let herself drop to the ground again in an attempt to crush the skinwalker beneath her hooves. Tabitha watched in alarm as Witseidutsei rushed toward her, saw the powerful hooves flailing above her, and she twisted her body around to roll away from the angeni. One of Witseidutsei's hooves caught the end of Tabitha's feline tail and she yowled in pain, bits of her fur left behind under Witseidutsei's hoof as the skinwalker yanked her tail out from under it. And Witseidutsei was relentless in her attacks, not allowing Tabitha time to recover and retaliate -- she was running toward the skinwalker again, rearing up to kick out with her hooves. Tabitha's ears pressed back as she continued to retreat, hissing, wishing endlessly she had claws in this form -- and so as she backed away she slipped into her cougar form, her pelt molding around her body as she shrank in size, more agile but more susceptible to being crushed beneath hooves. And still Witseidutsei's were there, crashing on the ground every which way Tabitha tried to turn, until finally the defeated catwalker fled back into the safety of the dense forest.

Witseidutsei panted, still watching the edges of the forest in case the skinwalker beast changed its mind and returned for a second round, but the distant snapping twigs and rustling of leaves said all she needed to know -- the monster was not coming back this way. Not today, at least. Finally, Witseidutsei turned back to Aleshanee and galloped over to her side. Her mane was windblown and slick with sweat from the battle, but the angeni was not concerned with the state of her appearance -- she bent her head down to the fallen mare to peer at the injured wing. "Are you able to stand, my winged sister?"

Aleshanee watched in amazement and concern for the angeni that swooped in and saved her life. She was amazed by her courage, her strength, and her willingness to help out a complete stranger. Did she save her because she was an angeni, just like her? Or, did she do it because she had the ability to do so? She was ashamed she lost faith for one moment, and instead, she should have believed in the Gods even more to help her out.

The mare's eyes followed the angeni's movements against the skinwalker. She would tense up when the situation looked bad for the angeni, but she would visibly look happier when the mare was out of a dangerous situation. She was further surprised to see the feline-pelted mare turn into a cougar, and was baffled at the sight. What was she?!

Her attention turned back to the mare before her. Tears were slowly streaming down her face. She was traumatized, exhausted, and thankful. Her body was awkwardly on the ground with half of her wings folded to her body, while her innermost right wing laid against her side after being dislocated. Unsure about her ability to stand, she moved her legs to a kneeling position before attempting to get up on shaky legs. She shook her head, feeling the unsteadiness of her legs from being scared and the adrenaline slowly leaving her system, not wanting to test that ability right now.
