The Crimson Walls
A door at the south end of the meeting room leads off down a long series of winding hallways. eventually, if you follow the path down it's center, the rush of water can be heard as the passageway opens up to reveal an incredibly large cavern. The ground is composed of slick rock and cratered holes from previous training sessions, and the walls are lined with small waterfalls, which supply a constant flow of water into the pools that form and empty out into the deeper parts of the mountain. There is no training equipment present... it is assumed that the cavern is simply used to have a place to let jutsu free, without fear of destroying or caving in any kind of structure that would collapse the base.

Konaga SaiAkatsuki | Konaga Clan | SanninHaving zoned out in thought as his mind prepared him for the hardships gaining such power would include, after a while, his mind snapped back to clarity as he got up from the empty table in the large empty room, and began walking to the south end. Directly behind the place where the sealing statue rose was a doorway which led to a long corridor. The further he walked down it, the mustier the smell of the stone hallway became, as moisture began to fill the air.
After a few minutes, the sounds of running water could be heard as a light at the end of the path began to creep into the hallway. Walking a bit more, Sai finally arrived in the Akatsuki's training room, jumping down from the entrance about 10 ft onto a strip of land between floods of water which came from waterfalls which lined the sides of the room. the cavern was immense, and the perfect area for practicing jutsu, especially those of the largely destructive variety. Looking around, he had recalled practicing many jutsu, never once seeming to breech or destabilize the cavern's walls.
"Time to get started...", Sai said to himself as he walked out into a wide open spot between the walls and began to concentrate, closing his eyes, taking in the energy of the surrounding area as he brought his hands together in a seal and gathered chakra around him.

Konaga SaiAkatsuki | Konaga Clan | SanninGathering his chakra like this was almost like stretching for Sai, as he breathed in and allowed his chakra to flow throughout his body, embracing the pain of his bloodline as it surged through him. He held the chakra for as long as he could as his arms began to shake, forcing him to release the chakra as he opened his eyes and felt oddly refreshed through the pain. the release of the pain he had built up for himself was almost a sick form of relief which allowed him to escape the pain which was always present.
At the moment he was about to perform a jutsu, something sparked in his head as a strange and sudden feeling came over him and he felt his hand move to the blade he held behind his waist. As he gripped the hilt, he felt a sudden surge of energy as if the blade itself had come alive and had informed him that there was a new level to reach. Every time beforehand, he had reached out to the blade to see what it could be expanded to do... but now, the blade had called to him as if to say, 'I shall complete your training". [Shadowplay Act 5 mastery: 1/13]
"Finally, you have a achieved a level worthy of true mastery over the shadows..."... the voice rang clearly in Sai's head as he felt the words much more so then he heard them. The blade seemed to begin resonating with him as he felt several waves of warmth throughout his body as if power were flowing independently from the blade directly into him, preparing him for the powers it would grant. With each wave, Sai felt a deeper and deeper connection with the shadows around him, as they seemed to grow and call out to him. After about a minute of these waves, Sai was suddenly cloaked in shadow, just as if he had used the Shadow Walk ability, but this time it was different. [Shadowplay Act 5 mastery: 2/13]
The shadows were alive to him now. He was no longer an invader taking form and pushing his way into the shadow, but was now the shadow itself. He had thought that he knew what it was to merge with the shadow before, but now he knew just how far from them he was. Sai also felt an innate connection with all of the shadows in his immediate vicinity as well, somehow now innately aware of what existed within them... allowing him to experience and almost feel the other shadows all at once. It was an amazing knew experience, and he felt so close to them, that he could practically speak to a shadow man feet away as if it was right next to him. He spoke out into the darkness and the sound resonated across the shadows... his voice muffled by the shadow, but then transformed into an eerie echo which passed through them. "Shadow Speech... incredible... the shadows seem to be taking the words that I would say, and say them for me covertly." [Shadowplay Act 5 mastery: 3/13]

Konaga SaiAkatsuki | Konaga Clan | SanninAs Sai was reflecting on the technique just learned, he suddenly felt a tingling in his arm as he gripped the hilt of the shadow blade tighter. His mind immediately moved to recall the hand's position of that being similar to what he had developed in utilizing the Shadow Projection technique. Acting partially on instinct, but also as if guided by an unknown force, Sai molded chakra into his right hand as he suddenly thrust his palm forward as his chakra melded with the shadow around him and a glob of shadow energy was sent flying forward out of the shadow, landing on the ground several meters away before disappearing into the earth. This technique was old, but new in how easily it was formed. He wasn't forcing the shadow to follow his lead, but instead, the shadow had acted in accordance with his will. [Shadowplay Act 5 mastery: 4/13]
Sai wasn't quite sure why he had felt compelled to create the technique, as it was one he had already learned, although had not mastered in it's true form until now. Then suddenly as he began to think of what to do next, as if to correct him for thinking he was in control of the lesson, his right arm began to throb as his grip tightened on his hilt. Warmth began to leave his hand as he felt the blade absorbing chakra from him, as it collected into the blade, slowly building up energy until Sai finally understood what was happening. "Of course, why wouldn't it?... it is essentially the same concept." With a surge of determination mixed with wonder, Sai poured more chakra into his blade until he finally felt the blade refusing any more as he closed his eyes, trusting the blade to guide him in his next maneuver. [Shadowplay Act 5 mastery: 5/13]
In an instant, Sai's eyes shot open as he was compelled to draw his blade out in a quick draw motion. In a flash, Sai brought the blade out of it's sheath, twisting his body slightly as he swung diagonally upwards across his chest. As the blade moved, Sai could feel the shadow around him collecting on the blade, attaching to the chakra as he slashed in front of him as suddenly, a large crescent shaped blade of shadow flew out from the blade's edge at incredible speed, following the arc and angle of the slash. The crescent blade ripped across the ground, kicking up chunks of earth and rock as it sped across the ground in front of him, continuing forward as it made contact with a pool of water, splitting it on contact as waves split off from it's movement before it finally dissipated back into the nothingness from whence it came. Sai felt his body exit the shadows shortly afterward, as he would expect now that the blade was removed from his sheath, but he spent a few seconds simply staring forward in awe at the new power. "Incredible... a fusion of chakra and shadow to create an attack... I will have to test what substances it can cut through... though I can already tell it is a force to be reckoned with. it split the earth with ease and displayed incredible sharpness when striking the water." [Shadowplay Act 5 mastery: 6/13]

Konaga SaiAkatsuki | Konaga Clan | SanninWith a bit of a sadistic grin, Sai looked at the path of destruction the Shadow Rift technique had created in front of him. As the grin widened, his hand began to shake a bit as he felt his arm drawn back to the hilt of his weapon. Following what he supposed was the continued will of the blade, Sai sheathed the Shadow Blade as he was cloaked in darkness once more and merged into the shadows. As Sai looked around, almost waiting fro something to happen, he felt his body pulse with chakra, which caused him a slight wave of pain, but nothing beyind what he was used to. [Shadowplay Act 5 mastery: 7/13]
Again, then again... the chakra pulsed through his body once every few seconds as the pain became not so much unbearable as it was annoying... almost like a bad headache. However, after a few more waves, Sai finally saw all the pieces coming together. If he could project a glob of shadow, and a blade of shadow... what would stop him from projecting an image of shadow? On the next wave, instead of allowing the chakra to fade away, Sai gathered and amplified it as his chakra built up and he projected it forward through the shadow. Instantly an image sprinted out of the shadows, which bore a vague resemblance to Sai's body shape, but bore no features as it was like a 3-dimensional shadow. After it traveled a short distance, it reached out it's hands to grab onto something, but when it found nothing, it simply dissipated. [Shadowplay Act 5 mastery: 8/13]
"Interesting..." Sai mused to himself as he watched the Shadow Image disappear..."I wonder what it would do if there was something there." Not quite willing to leave the new technique up to conjecture, Sai dropped out of the shadows and formed a water clone, sending it about 20 ft away before holding the hilt of his blade as he merged back into the shadows. Building up his chakra, Sai performed a series of hand seals instinctively as he projected another Shadow Image out of the darkness as it sprinted forward, reaching the clone in a mere second as it grabbed onto it, quickly repositioning itself to grip the clone and move to it's back, placing it in a headlock as the clone was completely immobilized and unable to move. Konaga SaiAkatsuki | Konaga Clan | SanninSai watched the Shadow Image hold the Bunshin clone still as neither the Shadow Image nor the Bunshin clone moved at all. Just to test his theory, Sai used his Shadow Projection skill quickly to throw a glob of shadow at the clone, which connected dead on, exploding over it's eyes, obscuring it's vision. After a little while longer, the Shadow Image disappeared, allowing the clone to move again as it instantly moved it's hands to it's eyes to wipe away the shadow which obscured it's vision. "So... it doesn't actually harm the grappled target, it only holds them still, just like the Shadow Manipulation skill..." [Shadowplay Act 5 mastery: 10/13]
As Sai watched the image continue to look around at the room, trying to determine the next angle of attack, he suddenly felt the pulses start up again. This time however, it wasn't just within himself, but as the pulses came, they lit up adjacent shadows with his chakra. Sai felt his chakra reaching out to the shadows all around him, especially the ones which encircled the mizu bunshin clone. Sai grinned at the prospect this brought into his mind as he closed his eyes and reached out to the other shadows, imagining himself in each of the shadows simultaneously as he built up a much larger sum of chakra... causing a wave of pain from his bloodline to flood over him. Sai pushed forward through the pain however, too curious of the effect of his new-found jutsu to be stopped by the familiar pain his bloodline plagued him with. [Shadowplay Act 5 mastery: 11/13]
After performing a long series of hand seals, Sai's eyes opened as he thrust his chakra forward again just like before. To Sai's surprise, four shadow projections sprinted out of four of the shadows surrounding the clones, each of them grabbing out towards the mizu bunshin clone as they reached it in under a second. The clone was able to dodge one of the shadows as it ran directly past it, and dissipated into nothingness, but the remaining three clones were able to capitalize on the situation as they all grabbed the mizu bunshin, restraining it from all angles as it held it completely still. Sai then felt his left arm move as it rose into the air,his fingers outstretched as he watched his Shadow Images mimic his movement...the Images' hands reaching up to the clones neck, slowing wrapping around it. With a dark smile, Sai understood what the next step entailed as he closed his fist... the Shadow images copying his movement as they gripped the clone's neck, instantly turning it into a splash of water. [Shadowplay Act 5 mastery: 12/13]
Sai's expression became emotionless again as he marveled at the blade's newest techniques... knowing somehow that this was the final stage. He was about to let go of his blade once again until he finally felt his hand grip the hilt tighter. The entire room grew dark as the shadows covered everything except for a small circle of light in the center of the room. Sai approached it slowly before he suddenly felt like he was being possessed. Drawing his blade and emerging from the shadows in one swift motion, Sai quickly executed a Shadow Strike, merging back into the shadows on the other side, merely to shadow jump to a new spot within the shadow and merge out of it again to perform a second Shadow Strike. The pattern of movement repeated itself as a third Shadow Strike was performed and the room darkened again, only to return to normal lighting quickly as Sai found his hand removed from the hilt of the Shadow Blade. Left in the middle of the room, Sai could still feel the shadows around him, and he knew that he had mastered the Blade's full potential. [Shadowplay Act 5 mastery: 13/13]

Konaga SaiAkatsuki | Konaga Clan | SanninSai was instantly itching to try out his new abilities, but was reluctant to go. Akio had not yet returned from Konoha and he was beginning to wonder what the holdup was. Leaving the training grounds, Sai walked down the long corridor, arriving back in the Meeting hall to see it as empty as ever. To be an Akatsuki at times was a lonely existence in this large cave. Sai made a quick stop into the dorms to see if he could find Kai, or perhaps to see if Akio had returned, but he saw no one. Shrugging, Sai figured that there would be no harm in leaving, so he walked out to the entrance of the base and scanned his ring to open the mountainside.

Hyuuga AtsurekiAkatsuki| Hyuuga Clan | Genin Making his way through the cavernous expanse of the base, Atsureki headed for the training area that Sai had spoken of, searching the walls for the scrolls that he had been told about. After a few minutes of making his way through the twisting alcoves of the base Atsureki finally found the scrolls that Sai had told him about. Sai had mentioned something about wind jutsu and decided that would be as good a place to start as any. Finding a scroll with the Kanji script for wind marking them, Atsureki grabbed them and headed down the long hallway towards the training area of the base.
Walking into the large cavern, Atsureki was surprised to hear the sound of water. Atsureki walked over to the waterfall, smiling as a fine mist hit his face, refreshing him and washing away the last hints of grogginess. After setting the scrolls a fair way away from the waterfall to avoid getting them wet, Atsureki began stretching as he readied himself to begin his training. He moved slowly through the basic forms that his father had taught him, moving his arms and legs in slow sweeping movements to get his blood pumping.
Once he was sufficiently warmed up Atsureki walked over to the scrolls and read over them, looking for a jutsu he though would be useful. With a small smile he found the first jutsu he would learn, the wind clone technique. After reading over the jutsu carefully, Atsureki set the scroll down and stood up, relaxing his whole body as he prepared himself to perform the jutsu.
As he slowly moved through the hand-seals, making sure that he memorized each one, Atsureki closed his eyes as he visualized how the chakra would need to flow throughout his body. He had learned in the academy that the key to creating any clone was to allow the chakra used to create the clone to flow throughout the body, almost so that it could remember the form and recreate it. Opening his eyes Atsu smiled, he was ready to perform the jutsu. [1/2]
Quickly performing the hand-seals that he had memorized, Atsureki felt it as he let his chakra flow throughout his body, forming a small film over his whole body. With a bit more concentration he focused on changing the chakra to take on the properties of wind, completing the second step. With a final burst of chakra Atsureki said clearly, "Kaze bunshin no jutsu." A small breeze swept across Atsureki, the film of chakra seeming to disappear as the wind swept over him. As the breeze moved away it pieces of a body seemed to appear in it's wake; first an arm, then a leg, then the torso, and so on until finally, standing there beside Atsurek was a perfect replica of himself. With a smile Atsureki waved at the clone and the clone waved back. [2/2 Kaze Bunshin no Jutsu learned]

Hyuuga AtsurekiAkatsuki| Hyuuga Clan | Genin With a nod Atsureki walked back over to the scrolls and read over the scrolls, reading over the next jutsu that he had planned to learn. "Kaze no Yoroi, a defensive technique, it can stop most projectiles and even some jutsu. This could be very useful indeed... ", Atsureki muttered to himself as he read over the jutsu. Tossing the scroll back on the ground, Atsureki walked back over to where had been standing before, the clone watching curiously.
Atsureki closed his eyes once more as he went through the different hand-seals, getting a feel for them as he tried to visualize what he would need to do to perform the jutsu. It described the armor as a swirling whirlwind that would surround the user, so he would have to push his chakra away from his body and cause it to spin around his body fairly quickly. With a quick bob of his head Atsu opened his eyes as he took a deep breath and readied himself to perform the jutsu. [1/3]
Atsureki began letting chakra flow throughout his body, forming a thin film of chakra over his skin as he had before to create the clone as he positioned his hands for the first hand-seal. Taking another deep breath Atsureki began moving quickly through the hand-seals, trying to push his chakra away from his body while causing it to spin at the same time. As the film of chakra began to move away from his body Atsureki forced a wave of fuuton chakra to push the film off as he said calmly, ]"Kaze no Yoroi". Looking around himself, Atsureki had an unsure look on his face. He could see dust particles swirling around himself, but it was slow, something was wrong. With a sigh, Atsureki released the failed jutsu as he readied himself for another go.[2/3]
Atsureki thought over what he had just done, trying to figure out what he had done wrong. The whirlwind hadn't seemed to be spinning fast enough, so the question was how could he get the armor to spin faster. Atsureki smiled a bit as a thought struck him, that just might work... Letting the chakra flow through him once more Atsureki readied himself to try again. Taking a breath once again, Atsureki flashed through the hand-seals, moving through the jutsu just as he had before until he finally cried out, "Kaze no Yoroi!" But this time, as he pushed the film off of his body with the fuuton chakra, Atsu spun his body, the wind picking up dust and surrounding him even as he came to a stop. Smiling at his work Atsureki called over to the clone, ordering it to throw something at him. The clone complied, and Atsureki was pleased to see it get sucked into the vortex, becoming just another part of the wind armor. [3/3 Kaze no Yoroi learned]

Hyuuga AtsurekiAkatsuki| Hyuuga Clan | Genin Atsureki was quite pleased with his progress so far, but it was no time to stop, he needed to become strong so that he could change this world to a better place. He didn't even have to look at the next jutsu, remembering the basic gist of the jutsu well enough. He moved through the hand-seals for the jutsu, doing his best to memorize them as he went over the basics of the jutsu in his head. Kamaitachi no Jutsu, the slashing winds skill. A ranged moved that uses the wind element to cut enemies to shreds, Atsureki thought, this could be useful when I can't get in close.[1/3]
Atsureki visualized how he would have to move his chakra, trying to figure out how a ranged attack would work. He had never really performed ranged jutsu, preferring to get up close and personal when fighting. He supposed that he would have to thrust the jutsu towards his opponent, perhaps focusing the chakra into his hand was the key. Forcing chakra into his right arm, Atsureki took a deep breath before finally making the necessary hand-seals and crying out, "Kamaitachi no Jutsu!" [2/3]
He forced the built up chakra in his arm out through his palm, forming a filter like film of fuuton chakra for the regular chakra to pass through. He forced the fuuton chakra to rotate in the palm of his hand as the chakra was forced through the film and out of Atsu's arm, a small whirlwind being pushed out as a result. As he was still facing his clone the jutsu sailed towards it, it's eyes widening as it realized what was happening too late. The jutsu shredded through the clone, causing it to burst in a gust of air. With a small smile Atsureki straightened up, happy with his progress thus far.[3/3 Kamaitachi no Jutsu (Slashing Wind Skill) learned]

Hyuuga AtsurekiAkatsuki| Hyuuga Clan | Genin Almost done, Atsureki thought to himself as he walked over to the scrolls, picking them up to look them over once again. He quickly found the next jutsu that he wished to learn, Tatsumaki Senpuukyaku, the hurricane kick technique. The technique increases the speed of the user and greatly increases the power behind a kick, but at the cost of decreased speed for a while after a successful hit. Atsureki set the scroll down and walked back towards the small pond created by the waterfall, trying to figure out what the key to the technique might be. [1/6]
After a while of thinking Atsureki just sighed, he would just have to figure it out as he went. Moving slowly through the hand-seals, Atsureki began focusing chakra in his legs. "Tatsumaki Senpuukyaku", Atsureki said calmly, pushing a final burst of chakra into his legs, causing wind to begin spinning rapidly around his legs. The wind began whipping his baggy pants around his legs. With a smile Atsureki began moving, experimenting with the speed increase, but almost immediately the wind dissipated, he was still missing something. [2/6]

He waited for Atsureki to turn around and face him before continuing on, Placing a hand in his pocket as he relaxed, but kept his stoic expression constant. "Your pushing your chakra into your legs, but it's not the legs that create the boost in speed, it's the wind. Focus on the wind. Creating it, rotating it, molding it around your legs... the wind is what moves them beyond their normal capabilities." Hyuuga AtsurekiAkatsuki| Hyuuga Clan | Genin Atsureki looked down at his legs as he thought over what he needed to do, clearly he was missing something. After thinking it over he thought he had an idea on how to fix the problem. Quickly performing the hand-seals, Atsu began pumping chakra into his legs once more before saying, "Tatsumaki Senpuukyaku." This time instead of sending one large wave of chakra into his legs, Atsu allowed a steady stream of chakra, hoping that the flow would allow him to maintain the jutsu longer. [3/6]
Atsureki began moving around, continuing to allow a steady streams of chakra flow through his legs, but he didn't seem to be moving as fast as the jutsu described. After a few minutes of running about Atsureki realized his mistake, he hadn't used the change in chakra nature this time. Slapping his palm into his face, Atsureki stopped and ceased the flow of chakra. Shaking his head Atsureki thought over what he needed to do to perform the jutsu successfully. [4/6]
With a nod of his head and deep breath Atsureki readied himself to perform the jutsu. He thought he had figured out what he needed to do, and with any luck he would succeed this time. He forced chakra into his legs, letting the chakra saturate every muscle of his leg. Performing the seals Atsureki cried out once more, "Tatsumaki Senpuukyaku!", as he charged the chakra in his legs with fuuton energy, changing his regular chakra into wind chakra. [5/6]
Atsureki could feel the power of the chakra flowing through his legs as he continued to let the fuuton chakra stream into his legs. He began moving around and noticed a dramatic increase of speed. As he continued to move around he began to realize that by forcing small bursts of chakra into his legs rather than a steady stream, Atsu could not only maintain the jutsu, but could do so with less effort and with minimal chakra cost. As a final test Atsureki ran to the side of the water fall and then charged at it, jumping up and performing a flying kick through it. He sheared right through the waterfall, his leg cutting through the water like a hot knife through butter. But upon landing on the other side of the fall, Atsureki felt his legs grow tired, this was the consequence of the jutsu that the scroll had spoken of. Konaga SaiAkatsuki Leader| Konaga Clan | Sannin "Naturally." Sai said without emotion as he reached into a concealed scroll holster behind him, producing the scroll he had taken from the Hyuuga that was killed. "More importantly then just attaining the scroll, I was able to assimilate the knowledge of the techniques from a master. I may not be able to reproduce the techniques, but I can teach you the forms , hand seals, and techniques required to accomplish them."
Sai tossed Atsureki the scroll, then move his hand to his head, rubbing his temple slightly as a flash of pain crawled over his skin, causing him to momentary close his eyes as it washed over him then faded back into the usual consistent agony his body had learned to cope with, though he could never truly ignore it fully. "You said you had never awakened your Byakugan on your own, but there is a way to do so using hand seals. However, it serves as a crutch for people who can't do it on their own, and normally limits the growth of the student in the beginning. So... we're going to force it out of you."
Without really explaining the method behind his thought, Sai's hand moved to his weapon slowly, and upon contacting it, his body began to darken as if a shadow from a cloud were suddenly cast over it. It grew darker and darker until finally, it was pitch black, quickly fading into one of the many shadows around Atsureki. Within the shadows, normally, Sai would be undetectable by any means, but in this instance, he was purposefully avoiding a true link with the shadows, which would allow Atsureki's eyes once activated, would be able to detect him. The only question was how injured Atsureki would become in the process.
