He had followed his mate everywhere. She was his life blood and he revolved his life completly around her. Though as she wandered further and further into the desert some part of him was fearful that thier little troup would bump into the nasty firewalkers instead of a loving family group that they had been aiming for. But it was by luck that she had stumbled onto the Dawnwalkers. They seamed like a nice enough group to settle down into. At least Shani would have a better time finding a mate now. As a dad it was always nice to see his children with respectable young males. Instead of her just running off with the first rogue that wanted to stick cubs in her. He sighed and watched her walking infront of him. Oh my how she had grown.
He then trotted up beside her and butted her side with his big head. "I can't believe how my little girl has grown" "Really I'm not that big daddy." She turned and butted her tiny head agaist his. She was a considerable amount smaller then him. And even if she grew larger as an adult he would still be nearly double her size. Even her mother Val would be larger then her when she finished off growing. But what she lacked in size she made up in heart and curiosity. She was the last one left of her parents first litter. Maybe it was just that she loved her family so much she could stand to see them go. Or maybe it was her mother bullying her as a child to stay close, so now that she was an adult she was just used to such a thing. Either way she had no intention of leaving her parents. And if they were to settle in the Dawnwalkers so would she. Although she might have to avoid her father some as he was constantly badgering her to find a handsome male to take care of her. But that was daddy for you.

It seemed they had been wandering forever, and without much to show for it. It bothered her to no end that it had taken so long for her to find some kind of stability for her family. She wasnt used to not being able to provide for 'em. If anything, she more missed the cubs that had dispersed along the way. She supposed she should have been happy that Shani stuck around, and she was. But it still hurt her deep inside to know only one of her six lovelies had actually followed.
Her red eyes gleamed when she looked behind her at her mate and child. Shani was getting big, Fel had a point, but still she was quite smaller than her mother and father. Val wasnt a small lioness. she was a muscled broad female that was of a lithe frame. She was an excellent huntress, or so she liked to think. She had always been told so, and until she had taught Shani how to hunt, she had been the soul supporter of her family.
"He's got a point." She chuckled, her tail swishing behind her back legs. She loved her family, and she was happy she could try to find some kind of life for them.
"I hope that we run into someone soon.. I'd like to ask them of the pride. So much to learn." She mused.

Shani was the first to pipe up at her mothers words. "This place looks amazing from the outside...and even better from the in." She just couldn't wait to get her paws into some sort of trouble; something she was very familiar with from her past. Except this time her mother wouldn't mind her wandering so much because she was in the protection of the pride. Shani always thought her mother worried too much about things. If she ever had cubs she didn't think she'd be anything like her mother. Probably more like dad she thought. Laid back and cool with everything. But then again she didn't have cubs so she really couldn't go off experiance.
Feleji could see the pain in his mates eyes even if she tried to hide it. She missed the other cubs dearly and though he knew the time would come that his children would wander- it too bothered him. But in a different way; the more he thought about the cubs he lost the more he thought about his family that he had, and maybe the possibility of starting over and doing it right? Maybe if they settled down in this pride the cubs might do the same and he could see Val truly happy once more. He swatted his tail against hers tenderly as he walked between his two females.
"Don't worry too much about it love. Your a wonderful mother."
He nodded to Shani and how well she turned out.

Valenera did not have a truly soft side, and she was not the type to roll over and cuddle. Valenera was a realist, and she was very aware of the way life worked. She did not like delaying the inevitable. Her idea of raising cubs, was that the stricter you are, the more values you got from it.
She loved her children, and she hadn't been overly controlling, though she had thought about it. She had been rather lenient, and she had suffered for it. Roth, and his secret demon training. When she had found out, she had been disgusted. Her own son, thought he was a demon. She could not handle it, and had left him there.. Left him to himself, and the demon that he said lived within him.
She looked over at Feleji, and gave a soft smile, though it was a bittersweet one. She was sad, but she knew life continued. Her and Feleji would have plenty of time to have more, and once they did.. Theyd be safe in a pride of their own.
Her smile grew happy at that thought, and she looked at Shani. She was indeed her fathers daughter, and sometimes Val wondered if she got any of her in there. But Shani was sweet, and Val could live with that.
"It is lovely, isnt it Shani."

She had a sort of prance in her step as her eyes filled with more wonders as she passed further into the pride. She would like this place, she'd like it alot. And the sand was the perfect place to bury one's self and hide while playing! Shani never quite did grow up despite her larger paws. And she wondered to herself for the moment if Snorks lived this far out. Would heat effect there flying? She pouted; or maybe her sister had been right and Snorks didn't exist. She was getting too old for make believe. But she had hope that she would catch one alive and prove everyone wrong about her friend Ary. He'd been too nice to lie to such a gullible cub.
"Mom what is this pride all about?"
She figured her mother would be more knowledgeable then Feleji. He was lovable, but he was rather dim too; as much as she really hated to admit her father had any faults at all.

"I'm still learning that Shani. I will have to meet with some of the members, and I'll let you know then, okay dear?" She replied, and her paws hit the dusty earth, sending little clouds of dust up through the air. She loved the desert feel. It was something different, and she always thrived for a change. This was exactly what she wanted.
She smiled, and looked at Feleji. "Where do you suppose we go to meet someone? I'd hate to just wander into the lands.." She did not want to trespass, but she needed to learn more about this great land. She looked around her, and back at Feleji.
"Hmm.." She thought deeply, her mind running through all the options. "We're going to need to find someone soon. I dont want to spend the night on the boundary of another pride. Its a dangerous place to be."

"It's not very dangerous on the boarders of this one, but you'd be more than welcome to come stay in the temple area. We're hospitable to all who come here and don't come with ill intent." A voice chirped up from over and around the next sand dune. It was too small a voice to be another lion and whoever it was had snuck up as careful and quiet as possible. But a small brown head popped up now, a little hesitantly, the large ears perked up with curiosity. It was a maned wolf who very much hoped she hadn't misjudged this little group because princess Tesni was going to cry her eyes out if anything happened to her.
"My name is Macheo. I live in the pride as a handmaid of the royal house. Welcome to you all."

Shani was the first to hear the voice from the smaller animal in front of them, and when she saw it she bound over right in front of her nose. She'd seen Hyena's before but never one of these. She cocked her head and sniffed at it far more curious then she should have been during introductions. "I think it's a small Hyena." She turned to her mother slightly pleased with herself for identifying it.
Feleji shook his head with a chuckle and trotted up next to his daughter. He wondered if he should have spend more time on her education then teaching her the importance of preening herself. "Shani dear this is a maned wolf. They are part of the Canad family- not a hyena." He then took one of his large paws and shoved her back as nice as he could. Then in a hushed voice told her it wasn't polite to rush so close to new people like that.
"It's nice too meet you Macheo. These are my females; Val my lovely mate and my daughter Shani who you have met."
He eyed Shani as if telling her she shouldn't be so disrespectful meeting strangers. But she wasn't paying much mind to that and was busy digging threw the sand. He just sighed and chuckled abit. 'Hopeless' he muttered.

She was leading the pack of lions that were walking together, so when Shani pushed past her, she looked in shock. She had heard the voice, but Shani had moved far too quickly for Val to actually notice what it was that had spoken to them.
She looked at Shani crossly. The adolescent should know now that she should behave. This pride was important to their safety, and Val would not have them judging them all based on a childs actions.
She looked down at the maned wolf, and offered a kindly smile.
"Oh thats good to hear! I'm actually looking to join these lands, so it would be great if you could escort us to somewhere we could stay until we speak with the Pride King." She nodded, hoping that maybe the Hyena could help her, as it said it could.

"Your father is correct, I'm a maned wolf - we're considered the cousins of the jackals, not the hyena." Macheo tried not to wrinkle her nose. It wasn't that she disliked hyenas. It was just struck her rather unpolite to discuss someones breed in such a way and she thought that the younger lioness was old enough to know her manners better. Her parents seemed better versed in manners at least but it was still rather off to have ones species blurted at you like that!
Luckily her displeasure was well hidden, for she'd spent her life training to have some decorum. There were times when you couldn't just frown or laugh as you willed. Had they been other maned wolves or a jackal they'd probably have been able to tell but lions tended to not read the slight change in body language so well.
"I can take you to the temple. If you wish to stay, the lions in charge there'll meet with you as soon as they can to discuss it. In the meantime I'll see you settled somewhere comfortable and show where you might find refreshment." She smiled obviously. Small hyena indeed. Macheo had been offended but she also didn't believe in holding grudges or focus on the negative for long.

When she explained her breed, Val felt the need to offer an apology. She couldnt tell the maned wolf was too bothered, but she needed to apologize anyway.
"I'm sorry about Shani.. She gets overexcited sometimes I think." She nodded, giving one more look to Shani, and then back at the maned wolf with a smile.
"Oh that would be wonderful thank you. I would very much like to stay so I shall look forward to meeting with the Elders."
She smiled again, and her tail flicked back and forth in the sand. They may have been a motley bunch, but they had good hearts, and they were smarter than the first impression gave it seemed..
"Have you lived here long?" She asked the canine.

Shani looked up once or twice after putting her head into a hole that she had just created. It was then she saw her mother and father glaring at her. Her ears flattened back agaist the back of her head and she rather 'sunk' down to the groud embarrased that she had disrespected her parents and the new friend. She chirped a small, 'Sorry' at the group and reminded herself that she was nearly an adult and had to behave like one. She really hope the wolf didn't take too much offence. She couldn't really read anyone too well aside from herself and maybe her mother sometimes.
Feleji's smile came back to his face as he could see no harm was done at his daughters comments. He would have a long talk with her later about proper respect amoung other adults. She really hadn't had any 'training' the only adult she knew aside from them was Satiku and he was the whipping 'boy' of the family so to speak. Nobody really gave him any respect or cared if it bothered him.
"I'm sorry again about Shani. I will correct her later. But now I would like to meet the others of the pride, maybe learn about the customs here. I'm rather curious. Thanks again."

She took a deep breath, and a smile grew on her maw exposing her very large pearly whites. She wanted nothing more than to belong to somewhere, and the desert was going to be the perfect place. Her ruby eyes looked at the maned wolf and she did her best to give the most genuine look of happiness.
"So are the lions around here accepting? Id like to see about staying, if the beliefs counter my own.." Though from what she had heard from word of mouth; this place seemed quite the place to start new lives.
She let her tail sway side to side, and she let her irritation with Shani settle down in her muscles and then forgot it completely. She was somewhat like her mother in that regard, it was hard for her to actually remember that she was supposed to be angry with someone.

"Don't worry about it. And yes, I've been here a long time, I was born by one of the oasis ruins a pawful of seasons ago." She gestured vaguely in the direction of the Wahdj group of oases. Macheo wasn't that old really. She was older than her princess bonded it was true but only by a season. She'd just been a puppy the first time she saw the fuzzy little newborn. Still, she'd lived her whole life here and was she hoped she'd be a pretty good guide when it came to the Tuait'tekem.
"I'd call our way accepting. You will likely be able to stay as guests until you decide if you wish to go or join us and we have lessons so that you can learn about our culture. In the past under the last pharaoh, the last king that is, only nobles were educated at all but these days all are taught." She glanced from lion to lion. "Do you have any questions you want to ask as we head towards the Het-em-seshen? I'd be happy to answer as if I can."

Feleji nodded. "Classes? I'd like an education-" His head turned back to his daughter. "There isn't an age limit? I'm like to bring my daughter if that is allowed. I'm sure she'd be interested in classes. Maybe a profession that suits her." He thought on that longer. "I'm curious about that really, being a concerned father and all. What would Shani have available to her? Or are only nobles allowed to have higher jobs? I really see so much potential in my daughter..." Although from the look of her now with her body nearly covered in sand he almost wished that he could start her education tomorrow. Maybe it would give her some semblance of structure and keep her head out of the clouds so much.
