Long claws scrabbled across pavement, his whip like tail low and clinging to his body as he slipped beneath one chain link fence and then with the aid of an overturned garbage can hopped over another. Bright rain blue eyes scanning, skittish and every watchful, ever wary. Some would say spirit was far to soft hearted for his position in the world, to frail, to timid. There were days when spirit would agree with the others assumption of himself..
Yet there were also times when he would laugh, quietly and to himself of course, but still he would laugh. Small pink nose twitching a bit like a rabbits, his senses set ablaze by the new smell..fur and musk..dogs and cats...the humans stink, and then something more, something living. There was someone else who'd been around, and though it was not his job to play the welcome wagon, it certainly was his job to keep an eye on all that moved within their territory. Whether it was dead or not...

Nearby, Dokutaa silently utilized his strong nose (for they follow old sled trails by scent) to scrounge whatever may lie in the many trash cans. He hoped he wouldn't attract attention; he'd already had his lunch - such as it was - stolen twice. He startled at the sound Spirit had made jumping up onto the trash can. Wolfing down what he had found with the speed and thoroughness of a vacuum cleaner, he went on wary alert, and prayed it wasn't a human. If it was...well, it could be over. He was quite cornered.

"Well well..I see I see, but my noes does also see, and my ears do see..heh..what is this now, some scrounge bit of dog? Digging about in cans and such, tsk not at all a meal if you'd ask me" spirit spoke swiftly, tail up and head down, a curious look on his face that could switch into a growl in an instant. His paws twitched, lifting them occasionally up and down as it was in his nature to be nervous and flighty. He was not one built for a fight..and this..well this much larger male...stealing scrap was not worth the wound he could get. "Now what if you don't mind my asking, are you doing scrounging about mnnn..Scrounging about in our turf oh very very big one"

"'Tis a tale I cannot tell; it is too fresh in my mind." Having consumed what he'd found, and seeing that this one was not particularly itching for a fight, he saw no real harm in speaking to the strange male. A tinge of remorse hid in his deep voice as he met Spirit's eyes briefly. "I apologize for entering your home, but I cannot continue to live in my own." He avoided the subject of the trash cans; he felt bad enough already, as was evidenced in his body language. He lowered himself in deference to back up his words. "Perhaps you know of a where that I may go."

Spirit's head cocked to the side, floppy ears perking slightly at the sad tone in the dogs voice..poor thing was no different from the rest of them, no different from so many. Really spirit could only assume the large dog had faced some sort of tragedy that had led him to where he was now. "Ahh..forgive me then for asking, haah your not really intruding not too much, and I would hardly call this a home! No no, just boundaries, silly sent lines..this garbage can and that tot he west side, really nothing to be 'too' picky over." spirit chuckled daintily as he squirmed down from his perch atop the garbage can.
"A place..I know many places, places here, places there..the pound places, unspeakable places..those places where they keep their fluffy pets, or throw us into those mean cold traps" he shivered slightly, shaking his head. "I might know of one good place though, that is..if your acceptable" spirit smiled slightly, tail whisking back in forth, slowly wagging. "Its not my job, but I do know of a good place..would you like to see?"

The phrase 'if he was acceptable' made his head tilt in curiousity. "Indeed, I would." he said after a slight pause to mull that over. "I must say that I have known nothing of these traps, but I am well aquainted with what they call 'bullets'." He winced slightly. "Tell me....does this place of which you speak...have humans?"

"I'm sure then! Ah....bullets" it was spirits turn to blink curiously..bullets..hed never heard the word before, maybe though this wisdom of the husky's could be intergrated into the whole..surely wisdom and knowledge were very valuable commodity's these days. "Hah! Humans..they are everywhere these days arent they? Though we would never willingly allow them into our safe place, oh no no no, never..Come on large one, you'll see. I'll show you and You'll like it I'm sure, actually Im rather sure that they'll like you as well" spirit grinned eagerly, brushing past the large dog with a quick skittish motion. "You'll see you'll see.."

Bouyed by the other dog's excitement, he stepped off to follow, a glimmer rising in his heart. "By the way," he said, "Doctor he called me; so Dokutaa I am."

"Hrnn, Dokuta, thats a strong sounding name that is. I like it! You can call me spirit then if you wish to call me something.." he smiled cheerily stepping lightly as he twisted around a fence corner and looked over the street. "Normally we keep our home very very secretive..dont need any more trouble then the world already gives us, you wont be any trouble though will you? You dont seem like trouble..actually you almost seem sweet, haha or are you just a shy one!" he smirked softly, streaking out across the sidewalk once the coast was clear.

Dokutaa followed, wincing a little when the strong sunlight hit his sensitive blue eyes, too used to poor light. He cleared the curb with a little bit of a hop, ecstatic to have found a friend. "Trouble? Me?" He tried his hand at a joke, a glint evident in his face. "Mmaaybe."
Something caught his attention. Human scent, far too near for comfort. "Let's get out of here, shall we?"

"Oh-ho, maybe I was wrong mnn, your certainly going to be a trouble maker. Sometimes we need those though" spirit joked, a small snicker chasing his words as his tail tucked closer, the smell of those he soo despised. The ones they had to hide from always..tsk..mean spirited two leggers..
"Tsk tsk, skittish are we?" though he moved, under a slip of railing and down into a side ditch, following along the path until they reached a storm drain. "Now, you'll have to stay close in here, dont want you getting lost no..Ah..I wonder, you dont mind the dark do you? Hah no of course not..but what about the wet?" lifting his bright pink nose and giving dokouta a curious glance.

"I prefer not, because of the temperature, but it can be stood, like anything else," he replied philosophically, stepping forward to follow. "In any case, it will soon be over." Far better than staying where I was, anyhow.

"A tolerant one too, yes the others will like you I'm sure..even some of the gruffer ones. Haha! Then again if they can stand a softie like me" spirit half shrugged as he slunk into the tunnel, glancing back occasionally to keep track of his large furry friend. "Soon soon..You know one wouldnt think these tunnels are fit for dogs, no no..but there is light here, and so many tunnels are so wide. They hold us quite nicely, and the humans dont dare to venture down here" he grinned brightly as they passed under a noisy sewer grate from above and he swung a left, a soft sunlit passage showing further up ahead.
"Its like..a paradise..a smelly wet dark paradise, but still its ours, and not another soul is out to touch it"

Dokutaa felt out of place in the confining pipes, but tried not to let it show. Figuring he'd better get used to it anyway, he followed closely. A rat brushed by him, and though he wouldn't have minded normally, he jumped so hard he hit the top of a particularly small joint in the piping. "Ohh...kay...that wasn't a particularly intelligent thing to do," he muttered, ears ringing a little. After they'd passed a little further, he spoke again. "I am not fond of the...scent...around here, but it is not untenable."
The sunlit passage looked inviting. He wondered what was in it.

"Haha...I suppose I should have warned you eh? Dark and small spaces, little critty cralwers all about. Though not to much to be worried of, at least the people cant crawl down here. Nope nope, never a two legger to be seen in these tiny spaces" the greyhound winced sheepishly for the poor husky, being so large and yet in such ah..tight quarters. It would do him well to make sure the male got a thorough showing of all the tunnels, lest he find himself trapped in far to small one.
"The scent will fade, you'll get so used to it eventually that you wont even notice it! Well, at least I hope so" he chuckled half-heartedly, little tail whipping side to side in a slow wag as he led the large male out into the sunshine. A Large drainage tunnel next to a huge cracked overpass..Leaf littler and fencing along with years worth of vine growth littered the area. Abandoned bicycles and tires, old shopping carts, and waterlogged mattresses seemed to take up the rest of the space. All arranged into some semblance of order.."Welcome to my paradise my friend!" there seemed to be eyes, not many but a few, watching sullenly from darker corners of the place. Some small like rats, other's from dogs lurking in the shadows or lounging about to avoid the heat.
