"You think she'll be out here?" Y'kar scanned the Weyrbowl through his lifemate's keen eyes, but failed to spot insanely long hair or an over-perfect body. "Guess not... Well I'm not hanging around for nothing, would you tell one of her flitts I want to meet her by the hot springs when she has time?"
Kannaroth gave her lifemate a longsuffering look. “Very well,” she said after a moment, “but only because I want to see them again, I have no interest in your games with the girl.” But she would tolerate them, and she wouldn't get in the way of them, not when Y'kar's little act with her paid off so very well. This in mind, she turned her gaze onto her bondmate, more specifically onto the flitts that clung to his shoulders.
One was blue, and as savage as her sister Nellath. So far he accepted herself, Y'kar, and nobody else; orange eyes and hissing came about if others drew too near. She would work on him though, he would accept her sisters and Theirs in time; she couldn't expect stunning results after only half a day of life. Perched on Y'kar's other shoulder was a striped gold, far less vicious and far brighter than her brother she would be a more delicate tool than the blue when she was trained...
Ah, she was supposed to be talking to the girl's flitts. Calling herself back to the task at hand, Kannaroth reached of for the small minds of the gold and green, greeting them affectionately, and telling them that Her's wanted to meet their human out by the springs. He had a bubbly pie to give to her as well, and at the moment it was still warm.
“There, I've told them,” Kannaroth informed her lifemate as they strolled across the weyrbowl.
"Thanks," Y'kar smiled over at the sleek little green, sending feelings of affection to her and to both of his firelizards. His firelizards. His. They'd come out of their shells early the previous evening, as famished as Kannaroth had been when she left her egg. He couldn't be more pleased with the results; one savage little brute, and one bright, willing little queen. Getting up early had been necessary anyway, he'd needed to go down to the ktichens to get meat for the flitts, and in return for being a pain he'd helped out wit the morning bake. The staff had been only too happy to let him take a couple of pies away at the end of it. A basically nice boy, several of them now thought, such a shame about the dragon.
Much as this made him grind his teeth, it also got him privileges that he would not otherwise enjoy. He would have to put up with them murmuring about His behind their hands and only defend her when they spoke at a normal volume, clearly intending for him to hear. Luckily he didn't need to do that too often these days, the idiots were coming to 'understand' that 'the poor dear' loved his 'nasty beast' and that it upset him to hear nasty things said about her. Some of them still rolled their eyes of course, thought he was just a waste of space, but he had enough on his side to get what he wanted, provided he was sure to only ask for favours when his friends outnumbered his foes in any case.

A blue firelizard popped from nowhere, tweeting out nervously, along with Jada's gold flit. Mental images of their Girl, peacefully asleep in her bed, came through to them; it was followed by an image of the gold waking her. The green, according to the frenzy of images, was still asleep.
The blue, as Allegretto introduced him to Kannaroth, had broken free of the egg and gone straight for the Girl. He was a pretty thing, shades of blue in a delicate pattern. Alle swooped for the other gold on Y'kar's shoulder, whistling an inquiry. A new gold! So tiny! Like Scherzo, but big. Her mental patterns were on the right track- she knew it was new hatched, but the dots weren't connecting correctly.
It was a few minutes before Jada appeared on the path towards the springs. "Sorry it took me so long to get out here!" she was red-cheeked and had obviously been running. "Alle woke me up and gave me the message." she waved at someone who passed by her before trotting over to wherever Y'kar was.

The young gold sat up on her hind legs and cheeped in return to the other flitt. Currently, she really had no idea what was going on, but the other one should be careful of the pale blue; he only liked her and the Green and the Rider. Other people got bitten; snap snap! As if to illustrate the point, the blue showed his tiny fangs and made a high pitched growling noise; this was his person, his perch, nobody came near!
Y'kar soothed the angry creature as best he could; the very last thing they needed was for him to attack Jada's flitt, that would certainly go down badly.
“The stupid girl is asleep at the minute,” Kannaroth passed on to her lifemate, “but her gold is waking her. She should be here soon enough.”
"Right," Y'kar nodded and settled himself in the grass before fetching out a little bag of dried meat pieces and offering them to his firelizards. After a moment of thought, he proffered some chunks to the swooping blue.
It was a short while later, but not too long, when Kannaroth informed him of Jada's approach. As the green's eyes swirled orange with annoyance at teh sight of her, Y'kar turned with a grin. "Jada! You're here! Don't worry about it, I've not been bored, I've got these two to keep me entertained now!" The gold, who had sunk into a more relaxed position after her meal, sat up again and regarded the female human with polite curiosity. The blue showed his teeth again breifly before hunkering down on Y'kar's shoulder, spreading his wings out posessively; his person!
"Thank you again Jada," Y'kar went on with a sheepish grin and a glance at the blue, "they're both amazing, I'm going to try to work on his-grumpyness but I think I might have another bit of a Kanna there. He doesn't think much of anyone but me, her, and his sister there."

Allegretto didn't like the the little blue's hiss and gave an authoritative chirp, eyes briefly whirling red. Then her attention was back on the other gold, and her head was whirling. She briefly sent the other golden an image of disciplining the angry little blue in the same way she herself kept her little fair in line. And then sent an image of Kannaroth keeping the little blue from being bad to people, and people being nice to Y'kar, followed by an image of Kannaroth not and people yelling at Y'kar. Allegretto crooned. That would be nice, wouldn't it? The blue didn't have to be nice, but no hissing and no growling!
And then Jada was there, smiling. Her gold gave her a warning as she approached- unnecessary since the blue was hunkered over Y'kar's shoulder like a dragon on a kill. "I'd give you a hug, but feisty might take offense." so the big egg had hatched into a gold? She stared at the gold, then turned to hers, eyes wide. When she had her lesson with the new Beastcrafter after she got out of the kitchens (if she made it!) she'd have to ask about that! Allegretto had clutched not one, but two golds? Maybe there had been a mixup with the clutch? But that would have meant a gold had lost track... she shook her head, then gave Y'kar a smile. "They are gorgeous." she held out her arm invitingly to the gold, far enough away the flit wouldn't feel pressured. "And think of it this way," she glanced back at Y'kar. "He'll protect what's his. I doubt anyone could step into your weyr without him pitching a fit."
The small blue of Jada's approached Y'kar, then paused; then took a step forward, and then paused, whistling up an inquiry at his brother. He wanted to inspect the strange Person! Or the other blue.

The striped gold gave a mental shrug; she had no control over him, but the Big Green did... But she didn't really care if he growled at people, because people always growled at her. It would be nice if everyone just got on but... The mental picture wouldn't come into her mind; it was beyond her very limited experience, and as yet she hadn't learned to imagine very well. The angry blue was angry, and so was the Big Green, because people were mean. That was pretty much that as far as she understood it.
"That's true," Y'kar grinned and held out a small cloth wrapped package to Jada. "The pie," he explained, "it should still be warm at least. Your new blue is really handsome too, I love his patterns... I need to think of names for them both."
As the strange flitt drew close, the pale blue gave a warning hiss and tried to make himself look bigger still; he didn't want to share! His! Nobody else came near!
Y'kar snorted and shook his head, suggesting to the blue that he go and sit on Kannaroth, be possessive of her, not of him! "I think I might have to call that one Charming." He grinned sheepishly at Jada as the angry flitt accepted his direction, climbing down his arm to settle on Kannaroth's head. "As for the little queen... I'll have to think a bit more."
Now that it seemed her blue friend wasn't going to bite anyone, the unnamed gold turned her attention back to the world around her... The other person was reaching out to her! But she couldn't fly yet! She gave an uncertain chirr and flapped her tiny wings pathetically.

"Thank you, Y'kar." Jada gave him a friendly grin as she reached out to accept the pie with one hand. "I named him Scherzo." following the musical theme of her little group. As for your blue..." she watched him go, grinning. "Feisty may also apply."
Seeing the little gold baby flap her small wings, looking so adorably pitiful, Jada moved her arm closer to her. Carefully, of course, given the temper of the blue, but if there was no threat or defensive action, she moved close enough that the gold could step onto her arm. "Such a beautiful girl you are. Such lovely bright colors." Jada could feel her heart beating fast, being so close to Kannaroth. She was getting so big, and more than mildly intimidating. "What kind of names are you looking for?" she looked over at Y'kar, head tilting. Her mouth pursed thoughtfully.
As for Dolcissimo, she was curled up somewhere on the green's head, sending her little images of how tired Dolcissimo was. And lazy. Hunger was stirring in her belly, but it wasn't a hunger for food. Right now, though, Dolcissimo just wanted to soak up sunlight into her tiny body. Scherzo, for his part, had followed his new blue friend. This was a big green. Big green?
Allegretto chirped at him, trying to teach him/ However, in his confused mind Dolcissimo was the same kind of thing as the huge thing in front of him, right? So he chirped a query at Kannaroth, expecting the same kind of response that he would get from other flits.

"Scherzo." Y'kar frowned thoughtfully as he repeated the unfamiliar word. "That's... something to do with music? It's a nice sounding name but I'm afraid I don't know what it means." He'd never trouble himself too much with specific terms for music. He knew the more common ones, and so had been familiar with the other flitt's names, but this one was lost on him. Perhaps he'd learn something new, that was never a bad thing, knowledge was power after all.
"I think she likes you," Y'kar went on with a grin as the stripy gold chirred happily and crawled onto Jada's hand, happy to meet a new person. "A name... I'm not sure," he shrugged, "something quite simple... I'm tempted by something cheesy like Beauty or Treasure. What do you think?" Yes, Treasure, he quite liked the sound of that... Still, he had to at least appear to take Jada's opinion into consideration; letting her know he didn't give a tailfork about what she had to say wouldn't do at all.
With some difficulty, Kannaroth restrained the pale blue from savaging any of the other flitts. Flitts were friends, and her sisters were friends. He needed to learn this, she would be pleased with him if he did... The blue - who Kannaroth now couldn't help but think of as Charming - subsided a little, allowing Scherzo to approach though his eyes remained a displeased orange. He still didn't want to share... but if she said flitts were alright then he would try to learn that they were, because he wanted her to be happy with him.
With Charming restrained, Kannaroth turned her attention to the patterned blue who, presumably, was one of his clutchmates. "Hello little one," she said softly, sending a feeling of warm welcome to the flitt at the same time; he was a very lovely little blue, and she was very pleased to meet him.

Oooh, time to give a music lesson? She shifted her weight, watching the gold step onto her arm and stroking the little gold head. "You are absolutely Precious." she advised the little gold. Allegretto shrieked from her location, a wave of jealousy running down the bond between she and Jadamirei. She did not like her Person speaking to the little gold like that! This was HER Person!
Jada sent soothing little thoughts to her flit, attention returning to Y'kar. "A Scherzo is sort of a... bubbly little piece of music. Something bright-sounding, typically." She thought over the names Y'kar had picked, then finally shrugged. "In the end, I'm not the one picking out what you name her. You need to pick something you'll be happy with. I gave the two of them to you because I knew how badly you seemed to want one, and I knew you and Kanna would take good care of them." She could have gotten good marks for the eggs, too.
Scherzo's tiny head tilted as he looked at the other blue, then crooned softly. Why was it orange-eyed? Was it hungry? His Person had food in her bag, and Scherzo could get some. Scherzo was always hungry and his Person made sure he didn't stay that way. The small flit sent images of small chunks of wherry meat being fed to the two of them, the sendings full of a question. Was the unhappiness because of a rumbling tummy? He rubbed his cheek against Kannaroth, enchanted by the Big One and the other blue.

"Oh, we will, believe me!" Y'kar grinned hugely. "I still can't believe you just gave them to me... I think you're probably just about the nicest person I know." Just about the thickest, too. Well, it worked out for him, so he wasn't going to complain. "I... I think I'll go with Treasure," he went on eventually, "because Treasure is precious, and she's precious to me." Could just have cut out the middle man and gone with precious, but he liked the sound of Treasure better for whatever reason. Maybe because Jada hadn't indirectly suggested it.
"Bubbly though," he went on with a grin, "seems like it suits him. he's not put off by Charming's attitude at all, is he?"
No, the patterned blue was not put of by Charming, and Charming was not impressed. He was not hungry, and even if he was he wouldn't take food from anyone but Rider or Green. Grumbling to himself, the young flitt crawled down Kannaroth's neck and settled himself on her shoulders, between her wings. Everyone should leave him alone!
Kannaroth gave a slight sigh, and rumbled assurances of her affection to all present firelizards. It looked as though getting Charming to accept more allies would be difficult, but she would work on him. Excluding the angry blue from her communications now, she told the other firelizards that he didn't mean to be cross with them, he just didn't know that they were friends rather than threats yet. She would teach him, and she would be very grateful if they could all be patient with him.

She gave him a slight smile. "Probably not the nicest, but I'm glad you think so. You can repay me by keeping that promise to treat them well." she gave Y'kar a nod. "And the name is nice. Don't you think so?" she asked the young gold. Her eyes followed the train of conversation up to the small blue who was crooning to Kannaroth and rubbing his small cheek on her green hide.
She gave a delicate shrug and moved her hand back to Y'kar's shoulder, offering the gold on her arm the opportunity to move back to her Person. "I do need to go, actually." she sounded almost happy, considering the Candidate task she was heading for was probably awful. "I'm helping with the babysitting." Or not awful, but still... "Did you want to stay and spend time with Kannaroth?" she asked Allegretto, who crooned a reply. Dolcissimo remained a lump where she always was, but Scherzo exuded anxiousness. His food was leaving?

"Oh, right," Y'kar smiled and nodded, reaching up to scratch Treasure as she returned to her perch on his shoulder. "I won't keep you then, I wouldn't want you to get into trouble on my account." Hurra, he was going to be spared further time with the deadglow, and Kannaroth got at least one more flitt to croon over for a little while. An excellent day all in all, or so it seemed so far. He had work of his own to get to of course but not so soon that he had to rush; this time was dedicated to taking care of Kannaroth, and as she was enjoying the presence of the firelizards he felt this encounter qualified.
"Don't worry," Kannaroth crooned softly at Scherzo, "RiderMine has food that he will give to you if you are hungry." She reinforced her words with images of Y'kar handing food to him, and feelings of satiation and contentment. If he stayed with them, she would be well fed, and he'd have a lot of fun too; he could come and watch her flying practice!

The Big Green promised food? Scherzo's eyes settled down a bit. He could do that. Especially if he would have a warm belly. Quietly, the blue continued rubbing his soft head on Kannaroth's. The three flits spent time with her until dinner, when they went back to their Person to share their day with her and get treats.
