So, if you can help design a magic school that is an American rival to the Euro/Potter Schools, what si one feature about the school you couldn't live without?

Does it absolutely have to be in the snow? Or have a greenhouse? Does it have to allow squibs to attend so your kid brother/sister won't feel left out and excluded? Maybe there's a muggle class you couldn't live without?

My personal requirement would be a Phys Ed department consisting of more than just Flying class. Something with Fencing and Archery or even just Walking for Fitness and Ballroom Dance. Go Phys Ed! Stop Fat Wizards!

(No offense meant to anyone overweight as I myself fall into the catagory. I am doing something about it though.)

Ohhhh I like the idea of a Phys Ed. class...that would be fun.

I think I would want the school to be somewhere where it has all four seasons-a distinctive fall with temperature slowly getting cooler, a winter with lots of snow, spring with temperatures slowly getting warmer, and summer with really hot temperatures.

I think that there should also be more in school competitions besides just the house points and Quidditch. There would be a Wizard Chess club with teams that would regularly compete against each other, and same thing with a dueling club. I would also have a things like archery and fencing, non magical but a good way to get exercise and meet new people. And those are the only things that I can think of off the top of my head.

Hmm, I'd want students seperated by year instead of by house. It's more than a little wrong teaching kids to hate each other just because of the house they're placed in.

I agree. Or maybe you could seperate them into houses, because it's easier to build four common rooms rather than seven, but don't drill it into them that because you're in Gryffindor, then you have to hate Slytherin. There should be more interaction between the houses that was non competitive so there is less tension and bitter feelings and hatred etc. between the houses like there is in the actual series.

I'd rather just separate them by year.

Maybe more than the same three ******** pets? I want a dog, why don't I get a dog? I love dogs! And like, spirit week! I loved spirit week at school!

I duct taped someone to a post on duct tape day and got my year an extra hundred points. It was cocoon style.

I like sorting into houses otherwise it's like normal school. I think there should be more inter house games.

I definitely agree that there should be more than just the same three pets allowed at the school. Maybe like a dog, rabbit, toad, etc. That'd be cool. But I personally would still probably bring an owl because I absolutely love owls.

Spirit week is fun at school. We always do it the week of homecoming and the week of the winter dance. I think that they should have dances. Instead of just having the Yule Ball that one time in the fourth book, there should be more dances, like homecoming, prom, and a winter dance.

Also, there should be competitions between different schools, like most high schools have. There should be Quidditch competitions between different schools instead of just between the different houses. And same with other activities against other schools-they should have chess, archery, fencing, and other competitions between the schools. It would also be pretty cool if they had a drama club in my opinion.

I actually prefer the house separation. Of course school unity should be a great factor but having separate houses also allows one to get to know the different years. I think houses simply divide the students so there's some order around. With houses one can easily find friends or if they need assistance from a higher year they can ask one from their house instead of not knowing who to ask. The prejudices I think are just naturally acquired from the students themselves. Wow sweatdrop I think I went on some little rant there.
However IIIIIIIIIIIII would love to have more competitions but more academically oriented. Besides Quidditch matches and the other physical activities that people suggested. Perhaps something on transfiguration or charms?

I agree, there shuold be more dances. But no prom, instead there would be the Yule Ball. With Quidditch there shuold still be inter- house games. THey winner of the overall Quidditch games should represent Hogwarts and THAT house team play the other schools. I also agree with more activities like wizard chess along with one Jedi did not mention, dueling.

Vball: I actually did mention dueling in one of my other posts, just not that one.

I think that what they should do for Quidditch is there would still be competitions betweent the houses that the school, but instead of picking the winning team, the best overall players would be picked instead. Because maybe Ravenclaw always wins because they have a great seeker and keeper, but then maybe Slytherin has some brilliant beaters and Gryffindor and Hufflepuff chasers just can't be beat when it comes to technique. So they would choose the best of the best.

Also, I think that it would be cool to offer foreign language classes. So that in case wizards and witches would have interactions with foreign witchtes/wizards that don't speak english, they might be able to communicate. Granted they can't offer every language, but maybe just the bigger ones, like the ones that are most commonly offered at high schools-spanish, french, german, and chinese. And maybe a couple others. Plus it's always nice to know another language.
