I dunno about you guys, but I fuggen Love Silent Hill. I love the creepy environment, the mutilated monsters and the sorely deranged characters... The amazingly fitting music score, and the images of such, vile places that only a deranged mind could come up with.
The music is amazing, it has a mixture of creepy sounds, gorgeous instrumentals, and a vocalist that could rip your heart out if she tried. It is depressing, yet uplifting; dark, but beautiful; creepy, but peaceful.
I love the symoblism most of all though. If you really think into the games, every little thing has something to do with the main character for that game, or Alessa.
[SPOILERS BELOW!]
For instance, Pyramid Head symbolizes James' sexual tension, hence why he rapes things. He also represents torment, because he's tormented by that heavy mask, a burden, like the death of James' wife Mary. His over all purpose is of that of a "Punisher", because James has a want to be punished because he feels bad for killing his wife.
A monster in Silent Hill Homecoming called Siam, is the image of James as well. It stands with a woman, tied to his back in a bondage like attire to symbolize Mary on James' back as his burden, and the woman representing Mary's helplessness, being dragged along with no consent or say at all. In the game, when you kill this monster for the first time, you get an achievement called "Shades of James", in which it makes it all the more convinging.
Everything in Silent Hill has meaning. Everything.
Tell me what you think, I'm curious.
By the way if you haven't played Silent Hill, go do it. It's for PS2 and one game for Xbox 360, go rent it or something. It doesn't have zombies, but if you like a psychological thriller, go get one of these games.

I have never played Silent Hill before but my sister loves it. So when she plays it I watch. I agree with what you said about the environment and music. I love it so much! This game kind of goes into all those psychological things the characters feel and morph into awesomeness! I should play the games she has someday and try it out myself <3

the only thing i know from silent hill is that it if you don't know what is around the corner will make you mess yourself if you don't see it coming....

I haven't played any of the games, but I have watched the movie and I loved it. It was an amazing movie and then taking the Silent Quiz made me want to play the games now.

I've played the first couple and all of them gave me nightmares...lol. But I love them, both the nightmares and the games.
I want the soundtracks!!

I've played through 1-3, 4 I never got to finish which I really want to revisit. And is it just me or was Homecoming super hard? I like that they revisited PyramidHead at all but it just felt to me like they were doing it because they know how popular he is... ugh, I just really hated the "fight" system in that game.
They are draining the seriiiies for all it is worth. However, they do a good job with keeping the creatures creative, and they're my favorite element of the games, so...

I utterly adore Silent Hill. I've played all of them but 5, including Origins...
Okay, I haven't played Shattered Memories yet, BUT I WILL when I'm not broke as hell. Which won't be soon.
Anyway I agree with what you said about the symbolism, which is why I was SO disappointed when they tried to put Pyramid Head into the movie. I mean yeah, he's cool, but he belongs to James. Removing him like that just, for me at least, cheapened everything a little bit, because it became less personal.

Johnny, I totally and wholeheartedly agree with you on that one. I got stuck more then needed, playing on EASY mode, I died a million and one times, and yes, PH shouldn't be there. A couple of people tried to convince me that he was there because Alex was similar to James in their "Want fo punishment" aspect, but PH was created like that because James was avid in researching Silent Hill's history, so he conjured his image from the triangle hooded order member who's name I can't remember... PH does look a bit different in 5, but he's still obviously the same character.
But I have to say, the ending with Alex turning into a Pyramid Head was pretty cool. And the creatures just never cease to amaze me.
And the fighting system sucked. It took me sooo long to kill a needler thing. Jeez. D:<
Lestat: I've got a website where you can download the soundtracks, it's called Silent Hill Media X, and if they don't have it, try Silent Hill Fever. Those are both really good sources for the soundtracks and ripped videos.
Ming: You should play it. >3< It will blow your mind.
I'm so upset that Team Silent stopped making the games... D: And then Akira Yamaoka supposedly stopped producing the music... THAT made me sad.

I gotta find a way to get the fukuro video on my iPod. Of course they don't have it on iTunes. n_n
You basically HAVE to use the knife the whole time in Silent Hill 5 and just SLASH LIKE A CRAZY PERSON ALL THE TIME. Nothing may hit you.

I want to play this now. Silent Hill 5, also known as Silent Hill Homecoming is for the 360 if you're interested. It should be pretty low on price by now as well~ Johnny: Let me see if I can do that for you, in MP4 format, yeah? And yeah, the knife was the fastest weapon there. xD I just liked the crowbar because it reminded me of Half Life. Lol. xD

I want to play this now. Lolololol, getting hype are we? Don't over do it or it could end up in disappointment. The game is good, but it is not god like. Yes the plot and shiz is good, but when it comes down to gameplay, it's a tad boring. >; But what do I know? I'm stoopid! And my favorite SH is 3. ;DDDDD
