Sam sat on a practice mat at the center of his large melee classroom, Tykier's file spread open in front of him. His wife and son ran circles around him - well, ran and floated circles around him - the petite spawn giggling uncontrollably as he was chased by his noncorporeal mother. Aara was in an excellent mood today, which was a good thing, considering she was going to be helping with the lesson.
"Rhys," Sam said quietly. "Do you have your DS?"
The child jogged to a stop, his giggles coming to an end as his dark features fell. "Do I have to?"
"Yes, sorry. It's almost time for Tykier's lesson."
Rhys dropped to his knees and peeked at the file. "Wrrrath! What's that?"
"It means this young man might get really angry at you!" Aara teased, her voice getting louder and louder as she spoke, culminating in a spooky tone and copious finger waggling. Rhys shrieked and began laughing again, running behind the screen in the corner as fast as his legs could carry him.
Sam smiled. It was nice to see Aara so happy for a change.

Tykier whistled down the halls as he walked to his melee class. The Wrath spawn was unusually happy today. He came to the door, and peeked in with a smile, "Hello! Is this Mr. Sam's room?" He looked around to the other two, one of which was an unusual-looking boy. Ty walked in, and stood there, "I'm Tykier Hilson..."

"Yes, yes, come in," Sam said, gathering up the young man's file and rising to his feet. "Good to meet you, Tykier. This is my wife, Aara, and that..." he gestured toward the screen in the corner that the dark little boy had just ducked behind, "...was Rhys."
Aara nodded in greeting, her long skirts floating several inches off of the ground and waving slightly in a breeze that wasn't there. It would be fairly useless to shake her hand, so she didn't offer to.
"Did you have anything in mind you wanted to work on today? I had thought to drill you in something you were already familiar with - with a bit of a twist - but we can attempt something completely new as well."

Tykier chuckled as he saw the little boy go behind the screen. Ty nodded to the ghost. That would be the first time he ever saw a ghost! But all the same. He returned to listen to Sam. "Well, I was taught martial arts, which went over real well (and quick) and I learned archery..." Tykier shrug his shoulders, "Um... I don't know... What's the twist if I may ask?"

Yes, that was it. Martial arts. Or, Sam supposed, archery would work as well. Maybe better.
"I have some skill with spirits," Sam said. "Friendly ones." He had power over the unfriendly ones as well, but he wouldn't be calling on them today. "With their help, I think we might transform this room into a gallery of moving targets." He smiled. "Or we can do something more traditional, of course."

Tykier's face lit up. Help from ghosts? That does sound like a good twist, "Okay! That sounds cool! But how will this work?" He crossed his arms, not in anger, but in an inquisitive way.

Sam grinned. "Well, I wouldn't really be involved at all. At least not physically. I would stay over there, calling the spirits, and Aara would be closer to you, directing them. If everything goes well, she can convey to them that they need to react to you shooting or hitting them, so we know your skills are being tested. It might be better to try archery, now that I think about it."
Aara remained silent for the most part, nodding in agreement when Sam outlined what her part in this lesson would be.
