(Timeline - Back RP) Maua's tail flicked as she paused to cast yet another look behind her, her narrowed eye searching for any hint that they might have been followed. They couldn't really chance anyone from the pride over hearing what they had to say, regardless of what they choose to do it wouldn't do any of them any good to be confronted about it. She and her darker colored mate had made sure to travel a goodly distance from the pride lands, just a lover's walk they had insinuated to those who questioned where they might be headed. Not that unusual at all.
"Do you think we've gone far enough?" She questioned the male beside her after her roving gaze caught no hint of movement behind them. She was pretty sure they had and the area they were in now seemed pretty sparsely occupied - a herd of antelope were the only things she could see and they were wisely keeping their distance from the to lion's occasionally sending them suspicious glances.

Kivuli padded along side Maua as they made their way away from the pridelands. They had some important things to discuss and while he was fine with talking about it around all the others Maua had insisted on talking in complete privacy. A smile crossed his maw as she asked him if he thought they had gone far enough. "Relax my love, I'm sure we have gone plenty far." He told her while sitting back on his haunches. "You know we could have discussed this back there...we're are likely not the only ones thinking these things over."
He shook out his thick purple mane and let out a yawn. Kivuli was always the more relaxed of the pair, where as Maua, well she needed to relax some days. He turned his head to look in the direction that they had come from, there had been no sign of anyone following them since they had left their home. And he doubted anyone would try. They did take walks quite often that never aroused any suspicion so why would it on this day.

That Maua thought to herself was the problem with Kuvuli, she loved him sure - but the lion was far to easy going when it came to somethings. Things like status in the pride for one, I mean come on lets face it he was handsome but he could do with a bit more purple on him. He'd have to work harder for hi status in the pride and as his mate that affected her, she was female - even with more purple on her lets face it she was basically eye candy. Not that she minded running things from behind the scenes..but come on, he had to show a little initiative here.
Her eyes narrowed slightly as she gave him an irritated look, tail taping the ground in an outward expression of her annoyance. "Really? And you don't think our oh so lovable noble friends.." And he made sure to make the word friend sound like they weren't really friends at all "...wouldn't absolutely love to hear us discussing if we planned to follow his new rules or not? You don't think maybe..just maybe they'd throw us to the dogs in order to win themselves a better place in his court? hmm? You need to think about these things Kuvuli!"

Kivuli shook his head slightly, Maua always seemed to worry to much...and she also thought he worried too little. It was a battle of wills sometimes between the two of them when it came to subjects like this. Kivuli knew full well that he could not be relaxed about his position, it was based on not only your efforts but how much purple you had on your hide. He was short on the purple side of things but that wouldn't stop him from pursuing a higher rank. This was all something he had thought about since he was a young cub, but Maua seemed to make a much bigger deal out of it then he did.
"Our noble friends have been openly discussing their decisions within the pride." He pointed out to her calmly. "And I am fully well aware that showing any signs of leaving, or weakness for that matter, can result in me not being able to turn my backs on any of them. I grew up in the pride just like you did Maua, I know how vicious the nobles can be when you have something they want."

"Well that just proves they are foolish creatures" Maua responded when he pointed out the others had been speaking of such a delicate topic in the open. When it came right don to it - who would the king decide to trust hmm? Whose cubs would he eventually favor for future positions? Certainly not the spawn of those he knew questioned their loyalty, how could he possibly decide to to trust someone that had been overheard questioning him. Well if she were king or queen she certainly wouldn't trust those Lions and since Maua considered herself a pretty smart lioness - she put a goodly deal of stock in these conclusions.
"Things have changed" She reminded him. "They grew used to talking freely about such things while we were kingless, We hardly know this new king - and while we were quite young when the last died - you must recall his tyranny. How do we know this new king will not be the same - like father like son they say and I'd rather not place our heads under his fangs because someone over heard us speaking ill of him" She concluded, letting a tinge of fear enter her voice.

"Foolish creatures perhaps, or they could very well be discussing things opening in hopes of getting others to do the same only to gain their knowledge. It it actually quite smart to do it that way. They will learn what the others wish to do and can use that information for their own benefit." Kivuli paused, well he had just agreed with Maua and in effect rendered his previous statement null and void. The idea of that almost made him chuckle, but doing so would only bring out Maua's anger more.
He nodded his head, mane shaking as he did so. "I remember his tyranny well. And we cannot know whether our new King will follow in his fathers foot steps, that is something that we will find out in time." He noted the fear in her voice and nuzzled her softly. "I will never let anything happen to you, you have my word on that. No matter what we decide I will keep you safe." He fell silent for a few moments, tail flicking around in thought. "Though I do not know the new King well he seems to have a level head on him, and while that may be an act just to gain everyone's trust I know that one who pretends to be what he is not will eventually falter and expose the truth.

Though she might have wanted to do otherwise Maua managed to keep from gloating when Kivuli rendered his own argument pointless and agreed with her. Well she knew he would see her way eventually, she was right after all it was just a matter of making him see her point of view. Which thankfully he now seemed to do. no point in rubbing it though she thought to herself - Kivuli could be stubborn and she didn't want him to stubbornly return to his previous viewpoints out of some sort of misplaced pride if he thought she was laughing at him or something.
"That is true" She allowed after pondering her mates words for a few moments "So far he has done nothing to paint him in the light of cruel" But he had only just returned. Maua would reserve judgement on that for a while longer. "and we all saw what happened to the last king - surely this one would not want such a fate...it is nice to have the pride put to rights again, some of the others were starting to get big egos in regards to where they belonged in the ranks"

"If it is just an act he will surely make a mistake soon, then we will know the truth. Until they I am content to stay within the pride." He have her a sideways glance. "I doubt that he wishes to suffer the same fate as our last king." He looked back the way her came, perhaps a bit of assurance to make sure they indeed weren't follow. Though he wasn't worried about such things he knew that if he showed a bit of concern towards it perhaps Maua would be less worried.
"The absence of a leader will do that to even the best prides. It is an internal instinct within us all, much like our survival instincts." But enough about that he told himself, he wanted to know what Maua wished. He would follow her either way, be it staying within the pride or leaving. "Now we didn't come all the way out here to discuss what the others are doing. Tell me, what do you think we should do?" Though in the back of his mind he wondered just what they would do if they left the pride. Surely they wouldn't wander about in the rogue lands. They would need to find a new pride and then work their way up the ranks, which wasn't ideal either.

Maua nodded slightly, she was relieved to see him taking her worries a bit more seriously, Kivuli was a great lion to be sure...but he just didn't seem to always concern himself with things the way he should. His brief glance backwards told her that in this at least she had managed to talk him around. "No..and we didn't walk all the way out here to try and figure out if our new King will be a tyrant either" She said with a sigh "We came out here to figure out our own future" She concluded before falling into silence.
This was not a decision she thought they should jump into right away, it required at least a few moments of reflection to make sure her thoughts were in order before she spoke them "It seems somewhat silly to throw away our current positions in the pride" She started "It would take allot of work to work out way back to the top anywhere else"

Kivuli's tail flickered about as Maua spoke. At least she seemed to be less paranoid about them being followed now which allowed her to focus on the task at hand. He would have pointed out that no matter what their future held that they would always be together, but she would probably just yell at him for pointing out the obvious like that. And angering Maua was never a good thing, whether by accident or on purpose.
"Certainly it would be silly when we know not how the new King will be. If in time he shows signs that he will be like his father then perhaps leaving would be a good idea. For now I think we should stick with the pride." Their options would always be open whether they stick with this king or if another new king came along. They were nobles and they had the right to choose whether to go or stay at any time. "Should we need to leave then it would certainly mean finding a new place to live and not all prides are open to new members, especially ones who held such a high rank as we do. I would be willing to work for a higher rank in a new pride if it came down to it, but honestly why do all that work when we already hold such a rank in our current pride."

"Yes..Yes, of course' Maua answered Kivuli as he pointed out the obvious to her. Maua had never been a lioness to like change and while this could be a change for the better - if the new King turned out to be kinder then the old - that fact had yet to be proven and the unknown part o that bothered her quite alot. Of course she'd never let it show, well not to anyone but Kivuli at least but he was her mate and didn't count when it came to things like that.
"and I certainly don't fancy wandering around the rogue lands like a common...rogue" she continued with furrowed brow and distaste pulling her lips back at the mere thought of such a fate. "I suppose you are right, we ought to stay...at least until we know how things will turn out" she concluded with a slight nod of her head. It was the right decision she thought..and Maua wasn't the type to second guess herself once a decision had been made.

"Then it's settled. We will stay within the pride for now. Should things change for the worse then we will need to consider the possibility of leaving for certain." He had figured this would be there decision well before they came out here to speak of it. Both knew greatly of the consequences of leaving the pride. Perhaps in doing so they would be followed by their past rivals to make sure they would never return, or they would be forced to wander for a long time before hopefully settling down. He shook his head, clearing those thoughts from his mind, not something they needed to think about right now.
His tail flicked about playfully as he looked at her with a smile on his maw. "Now then," he began with a sparkle in his eyes. "Wasn't this supposed be a romantic walk? At least that's what we told the others right? No sense in returning to the pride without having actually gone on a romantic walk." Kivuli slinked closer to Maua, letting out a small chuckle.

Good Maua thought to herself as he echoed her thoughts - they had both agreed, though she hadn't really thought they would end up at odds over something like this, sure they argued from time to time but when it came to the more important issues they mostly saw eye to eye. Mostly. and this decision? Will its the one she thought they would end up coming too so it wasn't much of a surprise, neither of them wanted to deal with the ramifications of actually leaving, not unless it was completely unavoidable.
When Kivuli changed the subject and moved closer to her Maua couldn't help but let out a small chuckle. "It would be a shame" she commented with a mischievous glint in her eyes "To pass up on such an opportunity, shall we go to.." And she paused for a few moments as though trying to come up with a good destination for their walk. "The ridge?"she finally suggested, the sun close to setting and watching a sunset from the ridge was always nice.

"An excellent choice my dear." Rising to his feet he walked along side Maua, but was paying more attention to her beauty than where he was going. It didn't take them long to reach the ridge Maua had spotted and it was the perfect place to watch the sunset. And watching sunsets was quite romantic. Settling down on his haunches he looked over at Maua, the red light of the setting sun danced across her white fur.
Laying down beside her Kivuli rolled onto his side, and reaching out with his front paws took hold of Maua and pulled her nice and close. Nuzzling her softly and then nipped her ear playfully. "You know we won't make it back to the pride until morning at this rate." He chuckled, not that he thought she would mind. Taking time away was necessary no matter rank one held. With the sun quickly disappearing behind the horizon he held her tightly, this moment was perfect and he wouldn't let anything interrupt it.

Maua might be a noble lion and she might not wish to spend allot of time wandering the rogue lands - certainly she didn't wish to live in them - but once in a while a moment came up which made spending time away from the comfort of their home worth it. Tonight had turned out to be one such time and as Kivuli pulled her close Maua did not mind putting off the trip home at all. Butting the large male under the chin with her head Maua let out a low rumble. "Thats alright love, i won't complain" She told him before settling back to finish watching the sun sink below the horizon in a brilliant show of reds and oranges, streaked with several low slung clouds.
Maua and Kivuli ended up spending the remainder of the night out on the ridge, curled up sleeping under the moonlight and enjoying the peace and quiet that came with just having some alone time with each other - something that was sometimes lacking back in the pride with all the other lions wandering about or poking their noses in to see what was what. When morning finally dawned the two lions awoke and with some stretching headed back to the pride lands together.
